Alright, here we go. The haul from my first Steam seasonal sale.

Before I post this list, I should say that while I thought the sale was good for a sale, for a Summer Sale, I was kind of left disappointed.

In the last 6 months, I've been hearing over and over about historical lows a bunch that happened during these seasonal sales, and I guess based on the Steam's sale history during these things I got my hopes built up too much, as this sale left me wanting more.

Hoping Winter will remedy this disappointment.

y u have so many sugarcaggers?
reminds me of my first sale, that was such a magical time

Here is my haul from the last day of the sale. I already shredded my receipts from the other days and can't remember those things.

Bojangles:
Chicken Supremes Combo
Boberry Biscuits(x2)

Harris Teeter:
Cucumber
Zucchini(x3)
Bananas(x4)
Chef Boy R Dee Dinosaur canned pasta(x4, gifted to my son)
Kraft Mac n Cheese(x2, gifted to my son)
93% lean ground beef
Ball Bark Beef Franks
Skim Milk
Hamburger Buns
Hot Dog Buns
Breyers Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream($2.57 e-vic special!!!)
Monster Java Vanilla Light

Ohio State University Animal Science Lab:
1 pound peppered bacon
1.77 pounds jalapeno/cheddar bratwurst
Boneless pork loin chops(x2)

Pretty good day for the sale, spent maybe $40. 12 packs of Sam Adams were only $11.99 but I just couldn't pull the trigger. My beer backlog is already getting to a potential skunking point.

Blah blah blah, new thread smell.

To wrap up the Summer Sale and start looking to the future, let's answer these 2 simple questions:

1.) What game did you buy during the sale that would hurt the most if it were to be bundled imminently?

2.) What game did you NOT buy during the sale for fear of said imminent bundle?

For me, Shadowrun Returns would fit #1, because I had no interest in it prior to the sale. Could've waited until a bundle, even though I have been enjoying what I've played of it. I skipped Gunpoint at 75% off pre-sale hoping that it'll hit a bundle soon.
1. Brothers. It was my second most expensive purchase. The first was the Hateful Days pair but I have no doubt Analogue and Hate Plus will never appear in a bundle. Yeah, I purchased almost nothing in the sale. #dealwithit, Steam

2. Shadowrun, Cloudbuilt, Gone Home, Long Live The Queen, Amnesia: Pig Machine. I'm cheap and patient.

My Steam Summer Sale purchase list:

Hateful Days

Brothers

Terraria

Season of Mystery: The Sakura Murders

Total spent: *shrug* I don't know where it tells me that and I'm too lazy to look.

2. lesabel, gateways, binary domain, daikatana

I think we're all going to feel a little tense in here until we can roll this thing over to V14. For all of you mobile peeps, don't step on cracks or walk under ladders while posting to CAG.
Isn't this already the 14th thread due to a number repeating when Cheapy closed and restarted the thread during a previous Steam sale? I may have some of the details wrong, but I know we repeated a number, and I don't think we ever skipped one to make up for it. So triskaidekaphobians can rest easy knowing that they already made it through the thread of misfortune!

Ahh, this is much better. I leave for a while and come back and see only a few replies to this thread, rather than being bombarded with over a dozen pages of whining, off-topic posting, and Gaben during the Summer Sale.

...Dammit.

I regret nothing!
Eh, it was only bundled once a long time ago before we had bundles with shitty games coming out of our asses. Plus it was Indie Royale where if you don't buy in the first 5 seconds the price shoots way up.

That's almost the same as not bundled. And I don't think Christine Love is in any huge hurry to get in another bundle. I think she actually prefers being an obscure niche.

It was one of the better IR bundles, though.

The market price for TF2 keys sure spiked today. Did someone say the market for keys is/was about to tank? 9 AM this morning --> $2.11. Right now --> $2.46.

Your choices are all lies. Buy a Logitech MX518 (have 2 for over 3 years both still work fine.) If you can not find that, I guess settle for a Logitech G500 (also have 1 I have been using for around a year, still works fine.)

(I used a Deathadder for around 2 weeks hardcore playing Starcraft 2 ladder and my wrist got fuckED for over a month.)

$10 over the course of the week for answering trivia questions about you?

You realize you could have just given away 34 copies of Defy Gravity Extended if you had just planned this thing a little better? Or 1000 copies of Metro Last Light?
:whistle2:( I honestly just thought of the idea a few hours before I posted. Figured everybody likes cash and can do whatever they want with it.

And no, each contest will be different. That contest was meant to test your memory, since I'd posted about my planned 1K game at least twice in the past month or so.

Do people really hate this idea so much?

I just hope the traders bring their prices back down. They were adding keys to prices during the summer sale when they well knew their flooding the market with keys was causing the price to crash. Crafty commies.

I saw them at 2.10 today, should have cashed in my Steam wallet before they convert it to Canadian funds, shoot!
Historically there has been similar activity with peaks and valleys in the TF2 key market around Steam sales. If you look at the lifetime graph of these keys almost every time there's a large dip followed later by a sharp incline it's a safe bet that happened around a Steam sale.

Median_TF2_Sale_Prices.png

It's still somewhat of a gamble to put Steam Wallet into the key market, but over the course of the TF2 key history the value holds fairly constant, never dipping below $1.82 and hovers around $2.20-$2.35 on average. I understand your dilemma with the currency conversion and that really is unfortunate. However, if you did buy several keys for $2.10 this morning in order to have maintained the same value you would've had to hope the price would jump to $2.41. Because at $2.41 the profit returned on a sold key ends up being $2.10 after the Team Fortress 2 fee (10%) and Steam transaction fee (5%). At the time a $0.31 increase probably didn't look very likely, so you made a safe call. Hard to fault someone for doing that. Hindsight is a bitch when it comes to money, even with card monies.

They were up to $2.48 earlier today.
I saw that. I almost listed some spare unused keys from the Summer sale but I've decided to hold onto them instead.

The 12-month high ($2.56) was on June 19th, 2014 @ 10 AM. The 12-month low ($1.82) was almost a year ago on July 14th, 2013 @ 7 PM.

The yearly high happened at the beginning of the 2014 Summer sale and the low happened during the 2013 Summer sale. The TF2 market seems to fluctuate the most during Summer sales historically. Kind of interesting.

EDIT: Makes sense. A highly hyped Summer sale fades as the sale wears on, disappointment grows, shame deepens, and then irrational buyers empty out of the key market in disgust at a loss.

You and me both. I loaded up on a sizable amount of TF2 keys from a reseller several weeks before the Summer sale ($1.80 per). Now traders & dispensers seem to be raising prices where the difference between them and the Steam store aren't as distant as they once were. It takes a little more work to find a good trade price now. Crafty indeed.

We do have some good Panda peddlers in the Steam cesspool of sales. I've bought from both Krugozor & BernadoOne without any problems. Good guys.
