Thanks to Skube and Oxidative for this coupon. Important things to note-- this will make games ten dollars or under free, but it's advised to buy another item, such as a pack of gum.

This thread is for clearance-- not for sale items. Price reductions for clearance seem to happen on Monday, although not every Monday. Target often donates its older clearance titles to Goodwill stores, so keep that in mind when you're trying to find items. BigDirty: "Further reduction is possible when a game's price ends with 8 cents. However, when it ends in 4 cents it will NOT drop anymore. If it ends in 9 cents, it's just on sale or on a non-clearance reduction."

When posting deals, please include game, system, price, city and state. For example:

Here is a fairly easy way to check your local Target's pricing-- often price tags will not be correct. Thanks to BigDirty for this:
1) Go to Half.com or a similar site. Search for the game to locate its UPC code number. It's in the gray box underneath the box art graphic.
2) Go to UPC Data ,Milk.com , or UPC Database and enter the code so you can print out the UPC. Go to Target and use the price scanners to scan your printouts.

Thanks to Mephitical for this tool for locating clearance titles, which is located here. Go to Amazon or Target to find the item's ASIN. When you find it, replace "B000O3IS48" in the URL with your item's ASIN. This will take you to a page asking you for your zip code. Type in your zip code and click enter-- this will display a list of local stores and whether or not they have your item in stock. YMMV on it working properly.

The lowest known price will be posted. The item could be higher or lower at your store.

I worked at target for a short period of time and can say that security and most normal employees were actually trained to watch for people (both customers and other employees) trying to hide stuff. Just something to keep in mind the next time you are out scoping the clearance deals.

all the simpsons at my location were cleaned out at the 24.98 price. i was hoping to price match the one i bought, but have since been playing it. it's crazy fun, you should pick it up now especially if there are only a few left.

I don't think there is. 1) It looks fishy, like you're going to maybe steal it later and 2) It makes it a fucking pain when employees have to straighten up the shelves and put everything back where it belongs.

btw, how often do price drops occur? I doubt it's every Monday, but is there a general trend like every 3rd Monday?
 
I saw a new round of 30% off PC games today. Including Company of Heroes, Neverwinter Nights 2, Rome Gold, Dawn of War 3 pack; at least 20 other decent titles. Didn't have a pen on me so I dont have a complete list, sorry.

There are plenty of disorderly conduct laws that can cover hiding merchandise. Usually, you'll just be banned from the store. I worked as a stocker for a local wholesale dump around eight years ago and saw plenty of people banned for hiding merchandise.

I'm in sort of the same spot; I broke down and bought F1 Championship for the PS3 for $24.98 ($29.98-$5 coupon). I really wanted the game and have never seen it on sale, but feel like it's due to drop to $14.98 as it has at many Targets.. but I also assumed I'd kick myself if they sold out before dropping to $14.98. (They had 2 copies, now 1, which I stashed to hopefully keep it from selling out before being dropped)

I'm keeping the game sealed today and will go back tomorrow to scan the other copy to see if it went to $14.98..

If they "sell out" of a clearance game, does that take it out of the system for a return? (i.e., if it drops tomorrow, should I buy the $14.98 one and immediately return it with the $24.98 receipt? Or will it stay in the system?) It sounds like a return/rebuy might be a little tricky.

If you buy a game and the price goes down, can you not get the difference withing a certain amount of time? I've never tried it with clearance stuff, but that's usually the policy with normal price drops.

Secondly, If you really want a game then don't worry so much about the fucking deal and just play it. Who cares if you bought NGS for $30 or $60? I bought it for $60 when it came out and I'm not the least bit sorry about it.

I hate to seem the cranky old man on here, but why stress over so little money? I see people on here hiding games and scheming just to try to get a game for $7.50 instead of $15. Just buy the fucking game already and play it.
 
I agree to a point. The difference between 10 and 7.50 is negligible, but then again, this is CAG. The price of gas alone, going to the store and hiding a game behind some others, and then going back again and again to see if it's dropped is reason alone to just snag a game at a decent price point.

For games I'm not crazy for but want to play, I'll wait for a drop. But if it's $15 or so I'll snag it. I won't wait for it to drop to 7.50. My time is money too, and running back to the store over and over to see if it's dropped isn't worth 7.50.

I feel the same way but you will notice lately around here these people are focused on paying as little as possible to make as much of a profit as possible.. taking games they paid $14 for and charging people $25 plus crying about paypal,shipping, and gas prices.... why should people have to pay you gas mileage when your greedy little arse knew right along you were going to drive all over to hoard copies up?...

It is the new nature of the beast on this site. Just have to try and ignore it as much as possible because it's not going anywhere.

Look this is CAG. So if people want to hide games it's their business. I'm not talking about hoarders or ebayers, they are all evil. I think most CAGS that hide games are just trying to get games that they are on the fence about for as low as possible. Some on this site are also collectors.

I hid and ended up buying a copy of Shadow of the Colossus. Did I go every day to check on a price drop? No. I have a family so I usually got to Target every week (diapers, formula, cheerios, etc..). I happened to be there and would check for a price drop. Can I afford to buy SotC for $20. Of course I can but I was trying to get the lowest price possible just for the heck of it. If there is a game that I really want, I will buy it, even MSRP.

I'm sure that there are some on this site who wait for a price drop and end up wasting gas and time for it but to each his own.

Hiding games behind others? Basically, the same concept as trying to hide something in an aisle that it doesn't belong in. That DOES NOT WORK at Kmart. In fact, it just pisses me off because I have to load all that crap in a cart and take it back to where it belongs. (I know this is the target thread but i just needed to vent)

And those same people are also denying others the opportunity to purchase the game at the current price if the game is removed from its normal stock location and hidden in a different part of the store. IMO, the only acceptable hiding method is placing the game behind other games. When you hide it amongst non-game items or within something, you're being selfish and thinking only of yourself. And let's not forget that you're making it more difficult for the store to sell the item at the current price. But, hey, all you care about is getting the game for as little $$$ out of your pocket as necessay; screw everyone else, right?

SingStar Amped showed up for $14.98 at my Target this morning (31 / Nat'l Road, Indianapolis). Also:

Only about 5 copies of Stranglehold left at $14.98 after there were 40+ last Monday.

In my situation with SotC, there were 4 other copies. The copy I hid was hidden in the game section. Obviously, if it would have been the last copy, I would have bought the game. Imagine if I had left the copy of SotC with the others. The hoarder who picked them all up would have 5 copies instead of 4. So I have no problem with doing what I did. Don't get me wrong, I don't do this with every clearance game I find.

If you're a CAG you should know that you have to look through basically the whole VG section to find "hidden treasures".
 
Went to target and crackdown and stranglehold were sitting on the shelf. Never saw either of them at that store for over 6 months! Picked them up.

Oh, I don't condone it at all. I think I worded my post wrong. I mean, the amount you are spending on gas going back and forth to the store for days or weeks, or waiting for that tiny drop in price, you might as well just snag it at the first clearance price. If it's a game I don't partcularly want, I don't mind waiting and seeing what happens. But if I see one I might be interested in for $15, I'm not going to hide it and wait.

I used to hide games, especially in rental stores, when I was a kid. I'm a grown man now, so there is no excuse. Plus, it doesn't seem to work very well.

When I go searching for games, I dig--and sometimes find treasures others have hid. I don't just go by what the first game in the row is, I will go through the entire thing. Circuit City taught me to dig.
 
The Target stores near me rarely have any good clearance deals. At least until today. My guess is that the stores around here don't do their weekly markdowns like other stores so stuff sits at full price for too long. Anyways, here is what I can recall off the top of my head:

Hmm...PGR4 seems to be holding at $24.98. The couple of stores I looked at had just stacks of them (25+ copies), and I figured they would have hit $14.98 this week. Perhaps next...
 
Holy cow!!! GH3 (PC) for $55!?! Now, I feel cheated for having bought it back in December... this is one game that I NEVER thought would go on clearance. :p

The manager was very cool and said to sell it to me for the price anyway, it was their mistake, not mine. Used the $5 off coupon and walked out with The Club for $26 and some change.
 
was browsing target today to see if the marked down stranglehold to 14.98, they did...also saw ncaa 08 football on PS3 for 19.98 and lair for 29.98...best of all, not a deal, but i saw my first Wii ever in a store...and i say my cause i bought it!

Nice. The Club is an awesome game. More people need to buy it. There's never anybody online playing it. Although I did buy it for PC, so that is a factor.

Also, apparently Crackdown is now free at Target, if your store still has a copy. When I was there today I found a Crackdown case opened (no plastic wrap at all) on the shelf with no game inside. It was still labeled as $15. I guess that means that someone put the clearance price on after it was opened. WTF? Also, this copy was the only one at my Target and was tagged at 41.98 (and sealed) for the last month or more. And now, just as it is lowered to $15, someone fucking steals it. ???
