Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

More negative changes from BBV

1) All returns 10 days late will automatically be charged to credit card as purchases.
2) Game rentals are now charged a late fee of 1$ per day after 5 day rental period, before being converted to a sale. So no more extended game rentals for me.

My BBV Online coupon had been giving me a 1 month game rental for free up until this change.

This means I now cannot rent games Monday through Wednesday at the store close to my work, because to return it on Sat/Sun I would have to make a special 25 mile round trip. Pity for that store, lost business. BBV should have kept a grace period of at least a day or two. Say goodbye to another set of members who will now migrate to GameFly.
Just wanted to report that Cranium's TIV held today at $16.
I know a local store that has used copies for $3. So can't resist the temptation to flip.

:bomb:Are you serious? When did this happen? The grace periods were the ONLY reason I would use my free game rental coupons.

This may not be the policy everywhere... or at least not right now. Rental terms/options vary across regions and even across districts within the same region. I work for them, what can I say... having a job is a good thing right now, I think?

thanks for putting me at ease...

I was just talking with the guys at my BBV about this. They made it sound like the policy changes were mostly to try and not have such empty shelves on their game rentals so much.

I'm happy about it because I have a blockbuster pass and can never find anything less than a month old available.

Yargh, apparently our location is doing the $1/day fee as well; given what I saw today, this is essentially nationwide (franchises may be a different issue). I think this may be an attempt to keep more game rentals in stock, especially with new/popular titles, as well as a backhanded way to push the Combo (game/movie) Passes... sorry, I work for them, but I don't know what the heck corporate is thinking sometimes #-o

Heh, had that at my store since march, and daily rentals dating back to october, in different ways. The joys of being a test market, every 3 months you change policy, every 3 months everyone bitches about how much you suck.

Honestly, when I hear someone they're going to netflix or redbox, I want to punch them/you in the face. Not because I care, but because you think I do. Not so much to people online, not so much, but damn it do I want to when I hear it at work.

"That's stupid, I'm going to netflix/redbox." I've heard that at blockbuster on several occasions, and I don't even work there! The best one was when another customer in line chimed in after this was said and added "Dude, it's not their fuck'n fault, they just work here. Go eat a hamburger & get over it."
So I guess the chances of a B1G1 for this holiday weekend are slim to none?
During the last B1G1 sale the employee said the next sale would be near christmas.

There is no b1g1 that I know of upcoming but our store is set to receive 60 X360 prepacks and 30 PS2 prepacks. Were getting our shipment either today or tomorrow so I'll post if there are any new games or the same stuff from the past 2 prepacks we received. This is a ymmv so check ur stores as some may have already received some. Might want to check the stores that have previously received prepacks since I know a couple stores that have never gotten any prepacks at all and they are 2 of the busier stores in the district.

X360 prepacks $6.99
PS2 prepacks $2.99

That may very well be true but the one thought that goes through my head with BBV is that the old way of doing things clearly did not work. My point is that what the did before (for example how frequently they ran sales) may have to be scrapped and replaced with a new plan.

Thanks for the heads-up on this hawaiiboy. I'm going to stop by my local BBV either today or tomorrow to check it out. Could use some cheap 360 games to play and or flip....

New prepacks would be interesting for possible flips to Gamestop. No Wii in there? Anyone find new shipments of prepacks at their stores yet?

Saying it blows is an insult to things getting blown around the world. Wii Music is worse then gutter trash after being thrown up on by a vietnamese crack monkey after it ate some bad curry.

What store is this at? Interested in picking up Shadow of the Colossus .

The hate for Wii Music (by people who I am guessing have never played it) is ridiculous. I got it mostly because I think my 2 year old will love it. It is a great way to learn about different instruments, and, for the older game players, about sound mixing, as you can add different layers of sound to the music. Is it a game like GH or RB? No, but then again it wasn't supposed to be. Plus a first party Nintendo game for $10 is something I will usually take.

I asked about a potential BOGO and when/if it may happen and I was told 'dude we just had one like 2-3 weeks ago'(was this a magical sale I missed?). However, then they told that they may be having one closer to Thanksgiving.

So I guess I can wait and see if WWE Legends Of Wrestlemania drops any further than to the $24.99 it was marked at tonight, so that I can pair it up with the copy of Afro Samurai I saw marked $14.99.

I missed both when they were on sale/clearance at various stores and I don't feel like paying more than $15 for both.

For any DFW CAGers, I found lots of Xbox 360 prepack games, as usual CD no cover art or manual, all of them $6.99, most notables CoD 4 and CoD:WaW, at least 5 copies of each, bought me back CoD 4 trade it mine to ToysRus for $25 bucks to get HALO: ODST.

Please let me know if anyone has seen L4D in this sale.

Thank you

R.I.P Cranium bukkake. Looks like the end has finally come for this great trade. Bbv is no longer taking trades of this game, at least in our district.
I may have to actually try and play it now since I am stuck with a copy.
I even have the glasses too.

They don't even have a low TIV? It's just not accepted anymore? That's pretty hilarious. It took them pretty much an entire year.

yep it went from $16 to zippo can't take it anymore. Yeah Bbv is pretty quick there no wonder we are going under. That was the only way I was able to maintain any credit for the past few months.

An awsome development today: Prince of Persia (used - 360) dropped to $15! TAKE THAT GAMESTOP!!!!!

Didn't see any kind of pre-packaged sale, though.

Traded:

PGR4 (360): $4
R.I.P Cranium bukkake. Looks like the end has finally come for this great trade. Bbv is no longer taking trades of this game, at least in our district.
I may have to actually try and play it now since I am stuck with a copy.

Nooooooooooooooooo!!!!

/melodramatic

Hmmm, we should confirm that is chain-wide, not just your DM that caught on.

Went by Blockbuster and the only ones I've seen but not sure if they are any good under $10 were: Facebreaker, Don King presents Prizefighter, Vikings, Full Spectrum Warrior and Universe at War

And older games Sonic Unleashed and I think Full Auto for $6

and Project Gotham Racing 4 for $4

RIP Bukkake if true. Glad I dropped two copies last week. I also have one left but no big deal to keep it. We like the Cranium board games so I'm not terribly concerned.

Anyhow, on to new news, apparently I went to a store which is working on closing sometime in Jan. The manager there told me that starting on Oct 26th, they're going to have a closing sale. She said that the stuff in the store will not be shipped out to other BBVs and will be liquidated. She wasn't sure of the discount so I'll be keeping close tabs on the store in the coming weeks.

Forgot one more thing. This store had a bunch of jewel case movies for sale, no artwork. The manager said it's online rentals overstock. Most of the titles were going for about $9.99.

No clear-case POGs at my local stores yet...hoping they get 'em in. There's a few games (like COD4) that I'd like to get back after trading in some goodies at GS with the extra $20 for Demon's Souls (which, by the way, I'm definately not regretting my purchase - it's awesome!).

earlier today (around noon), i checked my store that got a shipment last time, and i didn't see any new POGs either. (what's POG stand for anyways?) but yeah anyone else have any luck?

$6.99 for cod4 and cod5 would be fantastic...

I actually had trouble trading in Cranium during the last B1g1 in one store, in Reston, VA. They said the game was not accepted for trade. I thought they just messed up, but maybe that district had banned it, as well. Again, I was able to trade it in as recently as last week in my most local of stores. I may give it a shot when the next one lands in a nearby Gamestop. After all, if it doesn't work out, I can always return it to GS.

Couldn't it be possible that only specific BBs\GRs don't take that Kabooki game because they're currently overstocked?

i guess it could be district specific but not store specific. i checked with 3 other stores in the district and none of them can take that trade anymore. i'm guessing its a corporate thing though so none of the bbvs will take it. someone needs to check on this to verify but thats my feeling.

tonight i checked 2 out of the 3 local BBV and there were no prepackaged POGs. i didn't bother to ask the employees, but i'm not too confident that my stores will be getting them this time around.

it looks like prepacks are going out to fewer stores this time around. only 1 other store in our district has received x360 prepacks and we are the only store that received ps2 prepacks. we're still waiting for our 360 prepacks to come in so i guess there is still hope for more stores getting them.

For those who don't know as of yet, it appears that the version of Red Faction: Guerrilla for the 360 is down to $34.99 used.

I've seen that price at several stores now, though the one checked it in the system and it was still $54.99 there, so as usual this is YMMV.

I'm not sure about the PS3 version and if it dropped or not as well, but then again I don't need a copy myself since I have it already.

so we finally received our x360 prepacks today and there were a few goodies in there. 2 other stores received their shipment so they're out there. we received 60 prepacks and had 5 copies of halo 3, 4 copies of call of duty 4, 4 copies of gta iv. lot of the other stuff wasnt that great but there were multilple copies of madden 09, ncaa football 09, assasins creed.

Who didn't see that coming, I'm betting my local store is soon to get canned, they have not got a number of new games releases recently, but I do hope the POG's show up.

Anyone know the part #'s, remember stores can search their districts...
It's a sad day - the local Blockbuster put up store closing signs.

It's a happy day - everything's on sale!
Was just about to post this. BBV in Pensacola, FL near Cordova Mall on Airport had signs up for 10-30% off everything in the store.

If anyone(like me) is looking for Uncharted and can't find a used copy, you can try and get them to sell a copy they have in store to your account.

I was told the other night that they can rent it to you for the $1.99 rate for one night and then just add it onto your account, making it come out to $23.30 AFTER tax(in PA @ 6% sales tax).

Still not a bad price, even though it's $30 new everyplace just about now.

One near where I work is closing as well and has the same percents. Specifically, used video games are 10% off, which isn't that exciting, but I was going to buy a copy of GTAIV 360 anyway for $15-10% as that seemed a good deal, especially since the case, manual and map were perfect and it even had a 1 month Live card in it, but the disc proved to be ringed. I didn't think to ask if I could just have the case, etc, for free until afterward. Oh well.

I may hit up my local (to home) BBVs tonight to see if they've gotten any prepacks in.

The store by me is 10% off all used games and new DVD's, 15% off of all used Blus, all used DVD's are $9.99 or less, disc only used DVD's are $5.99, and all licensed product is 30% off.

Went to a different BBV that isn't closing and picked up prepacked Madden 2009 and COD4 for $6.99 each. Rules.
