Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
I have some cash stashed from selling videogames to someone and I'm blowing it all on this sale if it still works.
I have to admit, I keep a kind of videogames-only economy separate from my other income as well :) when I sell a game I'm done with or flip a game I got a good deal on, I'll keep that money separate and put it back into more games.

I bought like $100 worth of games yesterday, but I think I'll still come out on top since I had money saved up for just such an occasion :)

Was hoping to pick up Ratchet and Beatles for the PS3 yesterday but ended up with an extra God of War. If anyone's willing to trade, pm me and maybe we can work out a deal.

Ill give it a shot and let you know later. Any guess as to the likelihood that they'd fix the computers overnight? I'm sure I can find one oblivious store around here if not.

And out of curiosity, if you see "slide card" does that mean the cashier already hit total? Last night I got to this point with no discounts at one store, despite the cahsier knowing nothing of a sale or glitch.

I finally read the email they sent out yesterday about the problems so unfortunately this deal should be dead everywhere today and should be b1g1 50% off like it should have been.

It worked yesterday because it was supposed to be an auto barcode where the computer took care of the discount. What was happening as everyone knows is the autobarcode would deduct 50% off each game. When the email came down some stores didn't read how to correct it properly therefore you would see them scan a barcode and total and it would still take off another 50%. They were supposed to have exited out of the whole system and basically reset everthing then it would deactivate the auto barcode. Therefore everthing got reset last night so everything should ne dead this morning. Hope that makes sense.

Aye, thanks for the info Hawaiiboy. I might go out for some more beatles rock bands and toy stories anyway; trying to build best buy credit for a Boss Loop Station :hot:

Thanks to whoever mentionef this glitch and thanks Hawaiiboy for saving me a trip today. Because of CAG, my backlog of games is about 1000000000 :)
Very funny, since you put "undecided" under your location.
if you bothered looking at my Goozex sig my location's right there f00

Yep, they knew about the glitch, it's dead, just BOGO 50% off now. Some employees still don't even know about the sale. Awesome deal while it lasted though.

Well I completely missed out on this one. But I don't really mind. I'm trying my hardest to spend very little cash until I work on my backlog.
It's fun to learn. There are sites for bestbuy tiv's, tru tiv's and cag has most gamestop tiv's. I wish there was a bbv tiv center, but those are reported often like ftf or rw. CAG is great but yeah, check the threads often/etc. I went to bbv and it sux not knowing what a good flip is as one system may tiv for $6 while another $20 (i.e. Avatar for ps3/wii). TRU changes daily sometimes, so it's risky to hold on to a game, but BestBuy is great because I can lock in Darkvoid for $20, go buy it tomorrow for 20(hopefully 10) and plat it, and then trade it in a week :) The only problem is bestbuy is a bit slow on the turnaround...
Velo

Can you tell me which sites are best for tivs?

Gamestop - CAG
Best Buy 0 ?
Toys R Us - ?

And this is too full of acronyms of me to decypher:

"I wish there was a bbv tiv center, but those are reported often like ftf or rw."

Does Bluckbuster do trade ins? What is ftf and rw?

Thanks.

Trade-in Values vary from chain to chain and from store to store within that chain. Nothing is set in stone, unfortunately, but yes, Blockbuster does usually do trade-ins.

Regarding ftf and rw, I can't help you, heh.

I attempted to get a Dark Void and HAWX yesterday, but since there was no initial deduction after they scanned I didn't bother getting either - I didn't even really want HAWX, but it was the only game I could find as a pair-up if it really came out to B1G1 50% off (they didn't even know there was a sale.)

Anyway, I haven't seen it mentioned yet whether or not there is some kind of minimum price-point for the "legit" version of the sale.

Well I missed out on the sale due to work, don't get paid until tomorrow anyways so it just wasn't meant to be.
Anyone know how much Band Hero is at BBV now? Thats the #1 on my to get list right now.

Best Buy - http://lmgtfy.com/?q=best+buy+video+games+trade+in
Toys R Us - http://lmgtfy.com/?q=toys+r+us+video+games+trade+in

All of your blockbuster trading questions should be answered by the OP of this thread.

FTF - Fairy Tale Flights, a game that was free from Best Buy with a coupon a couple months back, it traded in for $20 Blockbuster credit.
RW - Rogue Warrior, a game that was used to transfer credit from GS to blockbuster to take advantage of blockbusters promo's such as B1G1 Free.

I was doing alot of flipping about a year ago and stopped because BBV Froze my account. I wanted to start again I didn't know that Toys R Us and BB Were taking trades now. Is that only online? You just ship them the games? How does BB work with trade ins?

let me google that for you, lol.
BB TIV
TRU TIV
RW was rogue warrior which was getting 22 at blockbustervideo, and ftf was fairytalefights. bbv doesnt do too much good tiv's, but it's better than cash if you have credit elsewhere, i.e. gamestop.
~as far as bestbuy trade ins, check out the thread with all the info. takes bout a month tho. tru is great cuz you get cred immediately. both are great for trading multiple copies at once. but both require complete games where as gamestop you can trade just the disk and get same tiv. it all depends what you want credit in and what the best deals are.

LOL! Hah...thanks for the help Googling. Velo, thanks for saving me the trouble too.

Do all BBVs do trade-ins? I had no idea. Do you have to ask them to get TIVs?

Please explain this: "bbv doesnt do too much good tiv's, but it's better than cash if you have credit elsewhere"

Also, how about Amazon? I used them and it was pretty smooth.

Yes, all BBVs do trade-ins, though not very many people actually use the program so a lot of times even the employees won't know how to do it. As jraypeon suggested, read the OP for more info on the BBV trade-in program.

What Velo means is that BBV trade-in values tend to be relatively very poor, with only a few rare exceptions at times. But sometimes even a poor trade-in value can be worth it if you are buying stuff from BBV, since you can use credit from trading in a game bought with credit elsewhere (thereby "transferring" the credit from the other store to BBV) rather than having to pay cash out of pocket.

in June I believe... after the current b1g1 50% off ends

If anyone runs into a blockbuster employee who doesn't know how to set up a trade, I can give you the instructions on how to set up a trade account and do a trade in the blockbuster system. I worked there as a shift lead a little over a month ago and have done trade ins a few times. I was one of the only two people who knew how out of my 3 local stores, told other employees how to do it over the phone.

Edit: if you get someone who is decently smart, just tell them to type "trade" and hit enter after they pull up your account. They may be able to figure the rest out on their own.
The thing is that I dont have a job, but I have over 300 next gen games I haven't even touched yet. I'm also a hardworking student with a huge college workload, but I'm unemployed and living at home.

...

I think on average, BBV could make more profit per game from an advertised 50% off sale than a B1G1 14.99 or under. Maybe people buy $40 and $50 used games in every single city where there isn't a CAG who posts on this thread, but I highly doubt it. It seems like the consensus is that 99% of these expensive games sit on the shelves until they hit 14.99 or lower. I completely agree because this is how it is at all the blockbusters in my area.

Also, the psychological implications of "50%" really make u want to spend money even if the deal isn't that great. I wouldn't have bought Army of 2 - 40th day for $20 normally, but I bought it yesterday because it's 50% off and they had 5 copies, so I knew I'd get one in good condition. The first Army of 2 game I didn't buy until I could get it for $7.50 during a B1G1.

I could go on and on.... I wouldn't normally spend $15 on Ratchet and Clank Future - A Crack in Time because I have Tools of Destruction sitting here sealed and unplayed.
Yeah, in your situation I see the reason you went through all the trouble with the Rogue Warrior trades. I didn't do a single one myself even though I have lots of GS credit. It was just too much trouble IMO - but then I'm not a starving student either. Those days are long past for me - and fortunately back then I didn't have this video game addiction. I lived my late teens and 20's for the most part video game-free ;).

As for the 50% being psychologically enticing - yeah, that's what I was saying. Heck, I had to restrain myself from buying R&C Crack In Time even though I have platinumed (and then sold) the game already. It just seemed like I should definitely pick it back up again even though realistically I'd never touch it again . Same for Final Fantasy XIII (though I still have my copy of that so it was abit easier to resist picking up a second one).
They were supposed to have exited out of the whole system and basically reset everthing then it would deactivate the auto barcode. Therefore everthing got reset last night so everything should ne dead this morning. Hope that makes sense.
Interesting - so it was a store-by-store thing if they had it killed off before closing yesterday? So at my local store where the first transaction did the double discount and the second didn't, the guy must have reset the system while I was picking out other games. He could have saved himself some trouble if he told me that instead of then letting me try to buy 6 more games and then remove 4 of them when it didn't work . Then at the two stores I went to late last night, even though the current employees knew nothing of the sale, the managers must have reset the systems earlier in the day.

Oh well, I got some good stuff. I'm trying to decide which of these are quick playthroughs (so I can send them off for trade-in before the quotes expire): GoW III, Dark Void, Dante's Inferno, and Bayonetta. I probably can't play all 4, but maybe I can knock out 2 or 3. Those are all games I wouldn't normally buy at more than like $5, but the 50% was too enticing
Now that this deal is put to rest, wasn't there talk of a B1G1 coming up next?
Well, in the past they've had one in June/July, but with this new sale being thrown in the mix who knows what they will do going forward. I don't think anyone has any concrete info on future sales. I don't have a problem with it being some time off - after all, all these $20-$50 games need to drop to $15 or less first, so we can get them all for $7.50 or less during the regular B1G1 instead of at what would have been higher 50% off prices right now. BBV is just trying to save us some money ;).

Thanks hawaiiboy. I think you just saved me some time and gas money.

Half of me kind of wanted this sale to keep going. In a weird way, the other half wanted it to end (probably the half that includes my stomach because I wouldn't have been able to afford groceries after spending all my $$$ on games).

I tried again last night and was denied. Only Wet came up 50%. I said I left my debit card at the pizza place and left. I won't complain cause I actually got to take advantage of some sort of store glitch. I only caught wind of the bogo late in its life so I'm pumped for the next one.

I hate myself for missing the glitched sale. Stupid Fry's Electronics killed all of my time. I had to wait there for an hour so they could fail at finding the movie that was supposedly on hold for me.

Wow thats insane. That guy at your local store was probably trying to see if what he did by resetting the system worked. Either that or he is a masochistic son of a _______ who likes to give himself more work and likes to watch the face of a disappointed customer.

If you were buying stuff like GOWIII and they had 5+ copies, you were doing them a favor because no way in hell those would all sell for over $20. At gamestop they would, but not at BBV. But this is coming from the guy who still has his sealed collector's edition of GOWIII sitting next to his computer begging to be played for months.

If you bought Bayonetta for the PS3, you should knock that out real quick and trade it into amazon if u locked in yesterdays deal of the day. And I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but don't let your kids watch you play GOWIII at all. I don't know if that factors into your decision because it might take you longer to beat because of this reason.

I got them all for PS3. Yeah, the kids are an issue - though I can play late at night for some of it. Is Dante's Inferno kid safe to watch? I mean, they watch me play stuff like FF XIII and Mass Effect (minus the tame romance scene ;)) so things like that are OK.

I was looking at the trophy guides and it looks like I might even be able to get a platinum on Dante's Inferno, plus it seems like the shortest game overall. So I will probably do that first, then maybe Bayonetta, then GoW if I have time. I've never played any of the GoW games, though I keep buying them all ;). As for Bayonetta and the Amazon trade-in DotD that's a funny thing. I had seen that DotD the night before but completely forgot about it and locked my trade in to Gazelle for $5 less instead. When I saw it posted here it was after midnight and I was a bit disappointed. But then later as I was reviewing some Gazelle trades I had made, I saw that Bayonetta jumped to $28 there! It might still be that high now. It seems they matched the Amazon DotD a day later, which is odd (they usually follow Amazon prices but not for the trade-in DotD). So yeah, I now have it locked in to Gazelle at $28 (cash, too, instead of Amazon credit). But even better - I now have a few weeks to play it instead of the 4-5 days I'd get with an Amazon trade.

And FWIW, all of those games were available in multiples. At my local store it was GoW that I removed from the transacation when he "fixed" the system (along with Star Ocean, Band Hero and GT5 Prologue all of which I didn't find at the good store later, unfortunately ). My local store has 4-5 GoW that will never sell at $40, so good job there local clerk guy . (Seriously, though, I'm sure he was just following the directions in the email on how to "fix" it - but he didn't tell me it changed and I would have saved him the trouble of getting out the games and then later cancelling items if he had done so).

Dante's Inferno is the farthest thing from being Kid Friendly.

picked up a bunch of gowIIIs for roughly $20 apiece, as well as a few beatles Rbs(ps3), Mario &sonic winter olympics. tinkerbell lost treasures, also paired up L4d2 and Borderlands(ps3) for 29.99. was a good deal, worked for me all day.Was really looking for grid and Mario and Sonic summer as they are both on the GS trade list for UFC, but no luck.

Hah - well, I'll probably have to play all 3 of those games late at night anyway. I assume Bayonetta just from the cover pic (and what I've heard about the game) isn't gonna fly either.

M&S Summer Olympics got wiped out during the B1G1 $14.99 and under sale. I didn't see any of those after the first day of that sale. I wish I had picked up a "bunch" of GoW III's but I didn't want to push it. At the one store where the manager let me go wild, I for the most part only got one of everything (except M&S Winter Olympics - I got 3 of the 10-12 they had ;)).

I'm also kind of regretting not getting a few other things like Halo ODST and maybe Assassin's Creed II. Though I think the latter might be pretty common B1G1 $14.99 and under fodder this summer or fall. They were chock full of 360 games and I barely glanced at those - I figured the PS3 ones are always safer in terms of disc condition anyway, plus I prefer playing multiplatform games on the PS3. Funny, but wasn't it Sony that made some noise about putting in a mechanism in PS3 games to tie them to one console before the PS3 came out - to do away with the used game business? The irony there is that the scratch-resistance of PS3 games makes me much more likely to buy them used than 360/Wii games . And with most Blockbusters now preserving the original cover art/manuals it makes them an ideal place to pick them up on the cheap.

I platted Dante's Inferno in about 2 days, just make sure to talk to virgil as much as possible. I forgot to talk to him before this final ice bridge at the end of the game cuz he was kinda camo hard to see with the background and I had to replay the whole game to talk to him and get the guide trophy for my plat. My kids watched Dante's and were pretty bored by the whole thing, I think only the tits shocked them but they are all girls and we are tit friendly in this household.

Bayonetta is alot harder to plat, but also alot funner to play. Also my girls loved Bayonetta, especially the cheshire/lil girl/dance scenes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwcQWmHraBs - Let's Dance, Boys! ~Bayonetta Dance Outro

There is one part where you race a bayonetta clone and it ends up being this sexy bad grrl angel and she touches herself in her intro. That was the only part that I told the girls to go away/close their eyes when I had to replay it again on later difficulties, everything else is fine. They didn't really understand the horsey torture and the boobs/hip gyrations but bayo is pretty kid friendly.

I just got bout done platting NIER and the worst part is every time you start it this chic Kaine starts yelling dumbass etc. so I always have them skip the intro as fast as possible, lol. NIER requires you to do all this tedious farming/planting/raw item collection so having helpers/indentured servant/children do those grinding parts is necessary :)

I did end up going back to bbv today and getting Avatar/DarkVoid for some plats.

Wish me luck, Peace!

Yes, which makes me not want to touch the game with a 10-foot pole. ;)

So whats the story now about the B1G1 50% off deal now? I missed out yesterday glitch of greatness, and went in today to see if I could at least find some things to flip off with the 50% the second game. Both BBVs I visited (stockton, california) told me the deal doesn't start until the weekend?? Is that true, or are they just fail and misinformed?

Palinetta was the biggest turnoff of the game. Just try not to think about it too much. Don't look at any palin/bayonetta pix online. What is seen can't be unseen.
It's like the Bioshock 2 Big Daddy Bomberman :)

At least the Bioshock Big Daddy Bomberman was funny! The Palinetta is just wrong!

One of my transactions got messed up yesterday and I didn't notice. Nothing was taken off. Took them back today to have them adjusted.

The manager literally stood there, looked me in the eye and told me that:

I will have to pay for a $39.99 game and then get a $9.99 50% off
I will have to also pay for the other $39.99 and then get a $4.99 50% off

I was stunned. PLEASE let me pay $80 to get $7 off to crappy games I don't even really want.

I told her to just refund the money because that was the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

She then gave me half off the $39.99 game and half off a $9.99 (I had a $14.99 in there also) game.

The stupidity of some people at Blockbuster is astounding.

Wow, schuerm, that is pretty crappy. You'd think they would know you were pairing things up at least.

As for people hearing the sale isn't till the weekend, I dunno now. It could be that the comm that reset the sale yesterday because of the glitch said to wait a few more days for a fixed auot-coupon to be implemented. Any insiders (hawaiiboy, maybe) know the scoop on what is supposed to happen from here on out? I know that they had a manual coupon, though, that did the trick (B1G1 50% off that is) yesterday. I guess not too many of use know, actually, since there isn't that many deals with B1G1 50% off (though there are exceptions: Beatles RB + Lego Rock Band for PS3 for $22.50 total is pretty nice).
