Previous threads:
Target clearance is YMMV
Games may not even be on clearance at your store, or they may be higher or lower than what is on this list.

This thread is for clearance-- not for sale items. Price reductions for clearance seem to happen on Monday, although not every Monday, but could also occur any day of the week depending on your store's price change team. Price adjustments on clearance are typically not allowed, but some have succeeded or have been able to do as return and rebuy.

Target often donates its older clearance titles to Goodwill stores, so keep that in mind when you're trying to find items. Further reduction is possible when a game's price ends with 8 cents. However, when it ends in 4 cents it will NOT drop anymore. If it ends in 9 cents, it's just on sale or on a non-clearance reduction. Also, note that, typically, games will drop three times-- from 30%, 50%, then to the final drop of 70% or 75% off of the original price. Some people, however, have seen further drops up to 85%.

When games are marked down, the price change team typically find the game and scan it with their PDA/LRT to intiate the price change. However, in the case that they cannot find the game, they will either choose to not drop the price further or process the price change anyway, figuring that the game is somewhere in the store.

When posting deals, please include game, system, price and DCPI # in RED!!!

For example:

:ps3:
Random Game $4.98 [123-45-6789]

Also, a great help when you're posting deals you've found is to check this post and see if your item's DPCI number is already listed. DPCI stands for Department, Class, Item-- it's Target's version of a SKU. These are a nine digit number that can always be found on your receipt and also on the red clearance tags on the item itself. DPCI numbers are handy to have when you want to check the item's price-- just go over to your scanner and punch in the numbers, if your scanners have keypads. Also, you can give these numbers to team members so they can check the availability of the item easily with their PDA scanners. Please post any DPCI numbers that are not already in the OP-- thanks! This is especially important since some of the DPCI numbers on Target.com start with 241, meaning they cannot be used in-store, and also meaning that I can't get all of the numbers from Target.com.

Here is a fairly easy way to check your local Target's pricing-- often price tags will not be correct. Thanks to BigDirty for this:
1) Go to Half.com or a similar site. Search for the game to locate its UPC code number. It's in the gray box underneath the box art graphic.
2) Go to UPC Database ,Milk.com , or UPC Data and enter the code so you can print out the UPC. Go to Target and use the price scanners to scan your printouts.

Thanks to Mephitical for this tool for locating clearance titles, which is located here. Go to Amazon or Target to find the item's ASIN. When you find it, replace "B000O3IS48" in the URL with your item's ASIN. This will take you to a page asking you for your zip code. Type in your zip code and click enter-- this will display a list of local stores and whether or not they have your item in stock. YMMV on it working properly.

The website for locating clearance titles by their DPCI # is here: Find In Store

Much like the ASIN location website replace the DPCI # at the end of the URL...

New link to search for items using Targets online item #: Find In Store

(HUGE PROPS TO aj slick FOR GETTING US THIS USEFUL TOOL!!!)

The lowest known price will be posted. The item could be higher or lower at your store. Numbers in purple are DPCI numbers, which can be used to check the prices of items on newer scanners.

The Legend of EL HOARDO as told by Strell:

No cankle too big and no score too small,
The one and only EL HOARDO.

He'll steal your stash - gonna take it all,
That's the one - EL HOARDO.

He's gonna run down all the aisles
and snatch up all the loot,
And he's feeling really confident
in his nipple protection suit!

Awesome sideburns and a dapper mask
He's at your local store,
Gonna clean out everything
And then go back for more!

Who's the guy in the Star Trek shades?
He's the man they call EL HOARDO.

His boots are secretly roller blades,
There he goes! EL HOARDO!

He's got a cape and it's totally sweet,
A flash in red and white,
Calls his fanny pack his utility belt,
He's ready for a discount fight!

You'd never think he could run so fast,
With a gut of giant size,
Asks all the ladies if they'd like a ride
On his Starship Enterprise!

What's that sound comin' down the lane?
It can only be EL HOARDO.

His stubby legs are gonna bring the pain,
Brace yourselves - EL HOARDO!

He packs a sword, it's a replica,
Like Zorro in disguise,
Gonna leave an H scratched on the wall,
Then he'll move those ten ton thighs!

Knows all the price drops all the time,
Has inhalers to survive,
Lives in a basement at his parents house,
At the age of thirty five!

That's the one who got your penny guide,
The stallion called EL HOARDO.

He's got his Rascal parked outside,
That Man-of-Men EL HOARDO.

EL HOOOOOOOARDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

]

You just got...EL HOARDO'D!
:ps3: L.A. Noire $3.04 (marked AS IS)

Originally rang up as $11.98 at checkout but I pointed out the as-is sticker and the cashier gave me both copies (picked up two copies) for $3.04 each. Not a bad deal among the usual clearance stuff. Best clearance pick up since I picked up Drill Dozer (GBA) for $1.00 a few years back
vanilla copy or complete? Still a great deal either way.

Yeah no doubt, lol. Nothing like meeting up in some still shithole part of downtown, say around skid row, for a Craigslist deal.

Btw you still looking for either bundle, lemme know. I know which stores on the west side still have any. Still looking for any more clearances DSis, XLs etc.

DAM my Target is cheap..for not selling me cheap games to a cheap A gamer :D ..Seriously they have nothing on clearance when i price check.... -_-
I work at Target. I've only found one time when someone clearly hid a clearance game (Red Steel 2 bundle) waiting for the next price drop. I took it out of the hiding spot (a bottom shelf under a bunch of bags) and tossed it back on the shelf.

It was ticketed at $27 when I found it, and it did drop about 3 days later to 20, when I grabbed it.

Oh, and if anyone feels like accusing me of doing anything underhanded, feel free, but I purchased the game off the clock and I didn't set it aside when I did see it had actually dropped. I waited till a break to grab it. Someone could have bought it in that time, but they didn't
You put it back on the shelf and didn't re-hide it, so I don't see anything wrong with that at all.
vanilla copy or complete? Still a great deal either way.
Vanilla. But I agree entirely. At first I thought they were returned copies/open merchandise. But when the cashier took the security cases off, they were still shrink-wrapped and untouched.

Hoping to find more as-is deals when I check some other local Targets today.

I was told that as is items are either damaged in some way or internet purchases that are store returns. Two cases in point- a copy of thor for PS3 at $1.36 because of "damage" caused by the security case (nothing was actually damaged) and a copy of top gear season 12 i got for 5.36 (retail 39.99). I ask about that because i had never seen it in any target before and was told it was an internet purchase.

As is clearance is awesome.
Question for target employees:

Are as-is games in bulk just a way for managers to skirt the standard clearance levels?
I'm not an employee of Target. Some of what you read below may not be exactly right but it is a close approximation of what I understand the process to be.

Bulk games as an item, even if they have the same "title" as a game released last year are not the same item/SKU according to the inventory system. They are also not the same item according to the distribution companies that sell the games to the stores on behalf of the publishers--distribution companies like Tommo, and others you have never heard of.

A game's initial release actually has a pretty short shelf-life in the US. Probably a couple of months at most if it is a 3rd party title, longer if it is 1st party, and even longer if it's Nintendo 1st party (you can bend the rules a bit when your hardware sells like beer at a baseball game on a hot summer day). During this initial run of a game, the game sells at MSRP. Once the sales slow up, or the retailer needs to free up shelf space for new items, a game will get clearanced, returned to the distributor (usually not), or sold in bulk to a discount distributor and end up in Big Lots, or like Target does redistributes them to Goodwill--I am assume Target takes a loss with a write off and then can deduct them from their taxes as a donation (this last part is speculation on my part).

After the initial shelf life of a game, a distributor's remaining warehouse stock gets bundled into bulk buys. Sometimes they get special stickers on them like TRU's round red "Special Buy" $19.99 stickers, sometimes you'll see new UPC symbols attached as stickers overtop of the orig UPC symbols printed on the cover insert. The games are then bundled into new lots and sold to retailers as a new item/SKU.

For retailers, a Bargain Bin copy of Ghostbusters Wii is a completely diff item then the one they sold and clearanced out last year. Its not a game title they are selling, just a SKU.

This is one of the reasons publishers now have Greatest Hits/Platinum Hits/Player's Choice. It allows the publisher to get a piece of the bulk game sales pie by re-releasing an old game with a new SKU.

So to answer your question, no, bulk/bargain bin games do not skirt a store's opportunity to avoid clearancing a title because stores like Target do not care about the title, they care about the SKU. An initial game release sold at MSRP is a different SKU than a Bargain Bin title--to Target they are 2 diff games.

The reason a game may never hit clearance at your store is because the manager in electronics might not like clearancing items. Of the 8 or so Target within my driving distance, one of them never puts anything on clearance--I'll still find games at MSRP 18 months after their initial release, when I know the other stores in my area clearanced them out 8 months ago.

Hi, I'm a Target employee!

As-Is 99.9% of the time are items that have been in the backroom for a while that are decode or they're not in our system anymore and they want to sell. My price change team, on items that don't show a last known price, will make up prices and then the system cuts off a huge portion of the original price.

For example, we had some giveaway demos of some RTS, but they had no idea what it was, so they put as is and the original price at $19.99, then the sticker printed it out as 4.98.

They've also As is sticker returns on items our store doesn't carry along with online items we don't carry, all depends who the pricechange person is if they use the as is or online item option.

Managers in different departments have nothing to do with putting items on clearance. There's a dedicated price change team that does all of that. Also different targets have different items go on clearance at different times. For example, at my store, the controller bundles are still $41 and I had the price change team check if it was scheduled to be put at the lower price last Monday(It was not). Where as the Target about 10 minutes from my store had it for the new, lower price.

Another example: Another store had a bike on clearance, we did not, guest came to our store and threw a fit saying it was this price at another store. We don't honor it because it's not on clearance yet in our store, a month later, it went on clearance.
Managers in different departments have nothing to do with putting items on clearance. There's a dedicated price change team that does all of that. Also different targets have different items go on clearance at different times. Finally, an insider.
Bought Online Item - Knocked Up Bluray for 2.06 and a really cool ipod/iphone portable philips speaker thing for 5.06.

Wow. My Target does not even stock that many different games for the PS3, let only NBA 2K11.
Target likes to overbuy sports games apparently, based on that and the 300 or so NCAA Footballs i saw.
I thought of your post when I saw these.

Guy in electronic said he would start selling these on ebay if they dropped more. He said "you should check back on monday". ;)

Found Star Wars Clone Wars Republic Heroes Wii for $1.56 AS IS, down from $5.98.

First time I found one of those double clearance cycle steals.
Question for target employees:

Are as-is games in bulk just a way for managers to skirt the standard clearance levels?
As is merch is stuff that is not in Target's system so the computer generates a price and a barcode that comes from the clearance printers so it can be sellable. Sometimes TMs can set their own price but most just stick with the price the computer gives them. Works both ways in terms of games. Those $5 demos of Stronghold aren't going anywhere lol

THIS NEEDS ITS OWN THREAD!!!
you know when I sell something in Downtown, LA. The people around the LA Basin, are extremely cheap. Some of these people on craigslist try to haggle you blindly and think their smart about it. I always state don't try to lowball, or haggle at the meet up for the transaction. I had one guy do that, I just walked away and he kind of just stood there with a :whistle2:s face.
Alhambra: :ps3: Skate 3 9.xx, and I grabbed the last UC bundle for $30. Marked at $41, I asked him to scan it, and he just looked at it and said "It's 30 bucks".

Asked if there are any others left, the gaming depart rep smiled and said: "Yeah we have 3 in the back" Then I got excited, and he said: "Just Kidding." Sir, if you are a CAG and reading this, you got me good.

EDIT: Also grabbed :ps3: Dead Space 2 LE w/Extraction on disc, for $15. I already have the game, so if anybody want it, PM me, not looking for any profit except the tax, shipping and half a gallon of gas.
Hey! I live in the same city, if you happen to find any good deals and you are willing to sell them, please PM. Is it the same clearance by the Wii station right?

1 of the stores I stopped to had 0/zero clearance games in 'the spot'. So, I asked the guy where the clearance games are and he pointed in the direction of 'the spot' and I said it's weird how there are none there. Not even coaster-ware. He said...then they don't have any.

I decide to look at the cases and see all kinds of clearance games. So, I, kindly, called him over and showed him the games for 'future reference' in case someone else asks.

He doesn't work in that section often.

We are talking about the same Target right? the one beside Costco (where I always grab a 1.5 hotdog afterwards after deal hunting). As others, I saw $15 Dead Space 2 (which some say can be found at $10, but I never saw it at that price), but there was a LE buried in the bottom so I grabbed it. Already sold to a CAG via a non-profit sale except for $2.5 gas. There's plenty of Skate 3 left and last time I saw the Eye mount for 3.xx.

Just tag my trade list, if I find anything good will hook you up.

Is there a general area that you can find the clearance games at? I found a small stand at the end of an aisle and it had a bunch of Madden 11s and that's about it. Did the Target I went to just have a crappy selection or was I looking in the wrong area?

Be sure to check the 'non clearance' cases. As, you may find some there!

I can confirm that there were at least 5 of Skate 3 left in Alhambra as of yesterday night. Saw an empty clearance hook by the controllers, so guess you beat me there. If there were no GOW bundles though, then it's no loss to me. Already have the UC's and a blue Dualshock.

For Craigslist in LA, I've found that it's a lot easier just to trade. Helps me get rarer games that I might not want to wait for on eBay. The fact that I'm flipping stuff I got for cheap helps out a lot.

yeah man, I believe this Target got a major remodeling done a few months back. big food section now in the back.

To AFC: I made some cash for profit on craigslist from getting deals, but I assume these people using craigslist or at least the internet have a general idea of how to value things for sale that they want. But they don't, they're just as clueless as most box retailer customers, expect these monkeys can use the internet.
PS. I'm tired of seeing those Philips and Belkin iPhone cases lol, they never sell and they always have a rack of them.

I'm going tomorrow, I need some candy, I hope to see those DSi system :) all the best guys!

The Targets in North Alabama are starting to just leave them in the "non clearance cases"

What I've noticed at a few of the targets is, the good/better clearance shit gets left in the regular game plastic prisons (sometimes with clearance price stickers and tags, sometimes without), and the shovel ware and mass inventory crap gets tossed on the clearance end cap.

It depends where you live. My area targets have practically no clearance items(ever). I've seem stuff that is on clearance for $9 seemingly everywhere else in the nation, Stick to their msrp at my stores. I still visit this thread, even though I just torture myself reading the deals I'll never get.

Damn you Target!

I finally find a copy of LA Noire Complete Edition (360) and it's full price...
Not the 11.98 clearance price that everyone else has been finding.

Picked up Samurai Warriors: Chronicles ($8.98) and Dead or Alive Dimensions ($10.48) for 3DS at the Dubuque, IA Target. I was pleasantly surprised to find these.

I checked the UC and GoW controller bundles at my location and they still rang up at $59.99

I was super excited to see both and very discouraged once I scanned them...

Three Targets today and three strikes. It looks like they had the same clearance items from the last time I was there (about a week ago) but just a bit more picked over. Best thing I saw was Skate 3 for PS3 for about $10 but I already have it on 360. I wish I knew when they would put out their clearance items so I could check them on that day instead of wasting time driving around.
I think it was mentioned but saw space maines for 19.xx
Is that that sim game where you go to Maine and join their well known Space and Aeronautics program to become an astronaut? If so, yeah your right it has been talked about and at that price it is a steal!

What kind of tablet are you using? I got a great Logitec keyboard case with a solid (not rubber) keyboard for my galaxy tab 10.1 and it was clearenced for $17.98 from its msrp of like $80.
