Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Nothing wrong with a little Christmas porn!

fucking fuck! I knew I should've waited on Dawn of War II. Paid $15 for the 3 games and now you get EVERYTHING for $10. fuck me.

Anyone know if you buy the franchise pack as a giftable copy what kind of codes you get? I want all the Dawn of War II DLC, but I want to be able to gift the games to someone else.
I've never seen L4D2 for less than $4.99, unless you bought one of the four packs for $15.00.
Seconded, I've never seem them lower. If you want portal 1 and 2 when it hits a better sale price (it will) you could get a pack with 1 and 2 cheaper... but they've given 1 away so many times i'd bet you have it. Same with l4d... they usually do a combo pack for 7.49 when they hit 4.99 a piece... but not much incentive to own l4d1 since all those campaigns are included in l4d2 now.

It doesn't work that way. You gift all or nothing.
Not sure there is anything right with it either. ;)
Your probably going ti watch porn anyways... might as well have it in the spirit of the holidays.

should i got burned out cause i was in beta since the start. I'll go back to it after holidays

question, if i just save my bethesda key until it dies down, will it still be usable if i dont activate it? I hope there wasnt any duplicate keys passed out -_-; bcuz if i trade i dont want to look like a douche and make people think im trying to ninja them...
Hey I'm looking for a Super Meat Boy key. Is $2.75 a good price? I know it's been in an Indie Bundle but yeah...
Wait it out. A kind CAG will see this post and give you a code for it.

There shouldn't be any duped keys. That being said, with GG site being hammered like Santa and Mom (apparently), I suppose anything is possible.
I subscribe to the thread, via "thread tools" at the top, then I just bookmark the subscription page. You can create a bookmark straight to your last read position:

Continuing the thread tools discussion, is there a way to bookmark the last seen carrot so the browser favorite will effectively do the same thing?

CAGs, I mentioned not too long ago that the Ravaged Beta turned into a retail key, but apparently it didn't go through, only to a demo copy. It is now a retail copy.

so Free game alert yall. But seeing as this appeared in my steam updates, you should see it soon as well. And devs seems like pretty nice guys on reddit at least.
Well since the Steam sales sucked. I tried Redneck Rampage... it asks you to move using the arrow keys. You also have to hold alt to strafe. I remember it being such a great game, but arrow keys?

Bah, I still got Thief 2: The Metal Age (Retail copy on discs) from Thief Collection in my backlog. :whistle2:X

EDIT:
You seriously wouldn't believe my backlog.
Some if it even includes Starcraft: Battle Chest + StarCraft 2 are on there (Retail); Homeworld 1 & 2 (Retail discs).
WOAH! Homeworld! Is that available online anywhere? Or do I have to hunt down discs?

I know I'm a little late to this but...

If I like the Splinter Cell games would I probably liked the Rainbow 6 Games?

I feel pressured by my CAG peers to bit on the DoW pack @ $10. From some reading DoW1 seems to be standard RTS faire. DoW2 seems to be a more tactical game. Is this correct? Are they worth it for single player?
Depends how much you want to play it.

Since it has no multiplayer and almost 0 replay value, the console version will drive the price down lower because of the used game market and rentals.

If I had to guess $7.50 or under sometime in Feb. (maybe after coupon) and around $5 or Tony bundled during the summer.
I'm waiting to buy it and a bunch of other Telltale games in a bundle.
Has Alpha Protocol ever been down to the $5 mark? Beat the game on PS3 a while ago and wanted to get the PC version.
I bought those LONG ago at Retail.
I ain't seen them anywhere digitally for sale. :(

SC games are WAY MORE stealth-orientated "action" games, mostly....
Well, that's a little bit more questionable {on the stealthy-part} on Conviction, BTW. ;)

Rainbow 6 games are MUCH more tactical and they are actually shooters.
I really liked R6 Vegas 1 + 2.

I kind of sucked at GRAW1 - never finished.
Never even installed or began GRAW2.

EDIT:
If you like SC games for their stealth-orientated gameplay, you should be looking at Hitman series; Thief series; & Dishonored.

Not sure about that. I haven't played Rainbow 6 Vegas in a while, but I'd say it more similar to Ghost Recon. Team based tactical shooter type dealio.

YES!!

Though, I'd say it's easier to get into R6 Vegas series than say GRAW.
GRAW's more tactical.
GRAW's flat-out tough & it doesn't take much for you and/or your teammates to go down or die.

Can't speak on the earlier GR games, though...

EDIT:
Can't speak on the new GR:FS, either.
Though, that looks more COD-ish than GR-ish, to me...
Maybe someone can speak on GR:FS?

You guys didn't know about the gotonewestpost thingie... whoa.

The thing I don't like about it, though, is that it eventually "expires" (10-15 minutes?) even if you haven't clicked through it.
Does anyone have any info on whether or not the Steam version of Far Cry 2 still contains SecuRom? They're not listing it under the 3rd Party DRM anymore, but a google search still showed that it had been in the Steam version at one time.
According to the Big DRM List, Securom was deactivated in a patch. (If you're considering buying it from Steam, remember to wait for a daily/flash deal.)
I'd say Sleeping Dogs will be $10 during the next Summer Sale. Possibly cheaper on Amazon.
It works out to $6 on GMG ($11.90 after coupon, and you get $6 GMG credit.)
I kinda want Condemned...just not at only 66% off.
"No 75% off; no buy." :applause:

It was cheaper when I was in Latin America as were all Valve games. No regional restrictions too. Not much different -- only $3.75 vs $5 if my memory is correct.

Not a lotta help to English speakers tho...

I didn't know such a list existed. Thanks for the link.

I threw it in my wishlist for a last day rundown of purchases, I just didn't want to buy it and have to deal with SecuRom.

Are we allowed to ask for split cost/sharing? I.e. DOTA2 early access pack has a giftable code, cutting the cost down to 25%.

If I'm allowed, PM if you want to split =)

Thread for that.

Really torn on CS:GO. The CAG in me says no because it's only 50% off, but I'm fairly certain that I'd play it right away since I had a ton of fun playing the free weekend a while back. Argh.

So what's this bull about DOTA2 early access? It seems like a scam to make money in what they will be a free game eventually anyway. But, why is it still stuck in "beta" when they have huge tournaments for it already? Whatever, people are willing to pay, so no hair off Valve's back.

You can get invites for free or less than $5 just about everywhere. There's literally no reason to pay them for invites when they've been flooding their playerbase with giftable ones.

I don't understand how a game like DOTA 2 could possibly make more money by being F2P. Are they just being generous or do they seriously think it would bring in more money?

You must be unfamiliar with the TF2 hat market. Valve makes a killing on those microtransactions. Dota 2 has tons of hats, outfits, weapon skins, courier skins, silly voice files, etc. It's a gold mine.

ROFL, I'm sure I find this funnier than most of you but while playing Blades of Time in the Brutal Lands (a very snowy cold place) Ayumi remarks, "I wouldn't mind having a cup of hot coffee right now" (Not sure ya'll get the GTA:SA reference).

Thanks. I don't think I've played that genre.

The hat market even seems to be creeping into here. =D

Even if the game wasn't F2P, they'd still sell those items and lots of people would still buy them. They wouldn't sell as many, but they'd get a ton of money if they just sold the game 5 dollars or something.

Ultimately they'll get more by making it F2P -- the item prices are fairly high and there are a LOT of items. There are some people who wouldn't spend a dime on DOTA 2 (given the original was a free mod... so long as you had WC3). It was the best way to get the community to move over to Valve wholesale.
