NHL Discussion 2015-2016

Haha, yeah. I was half expecting the arena to start playing some stripper music or something, lol. Got a nice breather out of it though.

To double OT they go...just like Game 1. Really hoping for a better outcome this time though...

Triple OT coming up...well, I didn't plan on watching this game and going straight to bed, but God damn...I guess that's what's happening, lol.

Hell, I was just checking in on it when I saw it was in OT and now I am thinking the same thing.  Probably heading to bed as soon as somebody wins.

Preds essentially facing elimination right now. 2-2 going to OT...and Chicago outshot them 12-5 in the 3rd. They're just being outworked. There's definitely something to be said for having been there before.

Nashville just looks lost. All the good things they did the first 3/4 of the season have disappeared. In a way, it would be fitting for them to be eliminated at home in Game 5. Through February 4th, they were 20-2-1 at home. Just seems like they've gassed. Blew their wad too early. So frustrating.
Chicago is one of them teams that are a pain in the ass. When you think you have them they come back like they did in game one against Nashville. They're the leagues little baby that gets what they want I have noticed and the 6 man goal in game 2 shows that. If Chicago would have some how not made playoffs they would have moved from the 14th draft position to the first. If they didn't have any picks the NHL would have found them one. When Weber was said to be out for the games in Chicago I expected this to happen. I see Nashville winning game 5 if he comes back. However I don't expect them to win 6 in Chicago. If they're about to I see the officials doing what Tim Peel has admitted to, and dictate the game play with bad calls against Nashville and lack of calls against Chicago.

The shittiest part is Nashville could easily be up 3-1 in the series. They had a 3-0 lead in game 1 (after the 1st) and a 2-1 lead in Game 4 (after the 2nd). Both games ended up going to double OT or beyond.

A couple bounces or guys stepping up to make plays and Nashville is dominating this series. Things just haven't gone that way and with the injuries to 2 of the 3 captains added to it, it just amounts to shitty luck at the worst time.

The other issue is Scott fucking Darling and his 0.94 GAA in this series. He's been ridiculous and the Preds can't seem to figure him out. The worst part about it...basically the only reason he's in the league is because of Rinne getting hurt last season. He was on Nashville's ECHL team... then got brought up to the AHL after Nashville moved goalie's around, and then caught some people's attention.

It's remarkable how the universe is basically aligning for Chicago. They can do no wrong right now.

Chicago is doing exactly what they always do... get hot at the right time, and find a random goalie who gets hot and puts the team on their back. See Niemi, Crawford int he beginning and now Darling.

It is why low seeds have such a good chance to win it all. They get hot, barely make the playoffs then go on a run. See the Kings each year they have won. The team that will win the cup is the team with the hottest goalie and the most momentum. Right now people should be afraid of the hawks...

As for my caps, thank God they pulled that out last night. Has been a some what sloppy series for both teams, with each team dominating for stretches but no one really putting it together. The Caps did well in game 2 being physical, but have shyed away from that at times and let the smaller Islanders back in..

Now you know how Blues fans feel about playing them. Some how everything seems to fall in place for them, and if it doesn't the officials make it right. Chicago is a good club, I hate to admit that, but damn it seems like the league tries to hand them games at times.

As for the Blues it seems like tonight is do or die for the careers of the core players. I have been seeing media talking that Oshie, Backes, Steen and Berglund all need to step it up. Even Gretzky has said that the top players for this team need to play like the top players. After the play in games one and 3 I'm getting the impression that this might as well be the elimination game. So a loss tonight means I shouldn't expect much Friday. Speaking of Friday's game, the NHL is really starting to piss me off. They have announced the times for the 2 games that may not even happen, but the 2 games that will happen still as of me typing this have no time.

Ugh, Rangers played like garbage, but still managed to win it in OT.
I don't know what the heck is going on with them, but they haven't looked like themselves all series.

2 minutes left in regulation...Preds up 4-2. Please, God...don't fuck this up, lol.

EDIT - Whew...Preds get empty netter with 0:11 left. Forsberg with the hat trick. 5-2. Eat a bucket of dicks, Chicago. Of course they couldn't lose with any class, with Andrew Shaw and Marian Hossa basically trying to hurt people in the final two minutes. Thankfully, Gaustad would have none of that bullshit.

One game at a time.

If it comes to a game 7 expect things to get worse.  Chicago has a lot of skill and talent. At times it gets overshadowed by dirty play that most are blind to.  The cheap shots and borderline dirty hits are just going to get worse if Nashville takes a lead in game 6.  I think if this series goes to 7 it's Nashville taking the series. If St. Louis can stop this winning just the even number games BS they're doing and win the series with the Wild I'd rather see St. Louis and Nashville than St. Louis and Chicago.  When I was in Nashville last March the fans didn't seem all that bad, and with Stillman being more about money than about the fans I don't think he will go to the extreme of locking out Chicago fans like Nashville's ownership did.  I just think it's going to be hard for Nashville to win in Chicago especially with the series now 3-2 Chicago, but if they can some how do it then I really see this being Nashville's series.

Well, Nashville has lost all four games they've played in Chicago this season...but three of those games went to OT or beyond. So, talk about winning by the skin of your teeth. A win is a win...but Nashville is freaking due, man. Their approach to last night's game was very different, and getting Fisher back made a huge difference. They were also finally putting the body on Kane a bit.

I'm hoping this means they figured something out. Not to say that Chicago won't make adjustments, but if the Preds can get Weber back and keep up the intensity, they might have a shot at it. The mantra around here has been "one game at a time" and "steal one in Chicago". If they can focus on outplaying Chicago one more time, then things get interesting.

Another OT win to knock out the Penguins. That was a tough series, much tougher than I thought it would be. Have to give the Pens credit, for an undermanned team, they gave the Rangers all they could handle.
Ha Ha, all four of the Rangers wins were 2-1. Thats some tight Hockey.

Good for them to get some time off and hopefully get Klein and Zuccarello back.

Sens battle back and bring the series to 3-2. One game at a time seems to work very well for them. The sad part is game 3 should have been their's, but regardless, game 6 is in Ottawa and should be fun.

Hate to say it, but the Blues now join the Leafs and Oilers with fans throwing sweaters on the ice.  It's sad that it has come to this, but I get the frustration of everyone only that's a classless move for any  team.  Especially when that team has been making the playoffs.  Sure the lack of effort in the odd numbered games has been horrible, but that's not excuse.  Now the next 2 games are a must win and I see yet again another season they go 2-4 in the first round when they should have moved to the next.  Blues should have had the Wild in 5, but they didn't.  If they can't prove me wrong and win this series I think Blues fans are looking at major moves in the off season.  Backes no longer captain, Oshie moved, Berglund moved, Bouwmeester moved and Gunnarsson moved.  The free agents that wont be back will be Jokinen, Goc and it's 50/50 on Michalek and Jackman.  I'm not sure how NHL ready Barbashev and Fabbri are, but I expect them to be playing for the Wolves next season.  Fabbri already is and Barbashev is I think still playing for his team in the playoffs.  Fabbri was moved to the Wolves after the Storm were eliminated.  Both of them could end up like Jaskin and after a few games being brought up to the NHL level they could end up staying.  I'm also expecting a new coach and if Stillman was as pissed as I heard he was after the game last night, a new GM maybe as soon as the 16-17 season .

I've been a Blues fan my whole life, but they really are the Cubs of Hockey. It doesn't matter who the coach is or who is on the team, they always seem to give up as soon as the playoffs start. :cries:

Yes it does matter. If the players are giving up then you need players that don't give up. Same for the coach. I called for an end to Hitchcock as coach last year because of this. He shows no emotion on the bench. He gets out coached in the playoffs. This year he's not getting out coached but the team isn't into it. Make the right changes and it will pay off.

Wayne Gretzky, Brett Hull, Brendan Shannon, Coach Quinville, Mike Keenan, Adam Oates, Al MacInnis, Chris Pronger, it doesn't matter... The Blues always act the same fucking way once the playoffs start.

Keenan was shit. Every interview with Hull he trashes him. Them times were full of shit management and ownership. Gretzky would have retired a Blue had it not been for how bad things were run then. Now we have Armstrong trying to relive Dallas 99 days. They manage to get a coach and GM that want to play today's hockey and not stuck back when they last won a cup this team has a chance. Hitchcock and the core players are the problem now. Armstrong needs to fix it in the off season before he's the problem. Sad thing is he's just going to keep going for that 99 Dallas connection and Stillman is too blind to see its not working.

What about Quinville? He's won it with the Blackhawks since leaving the Blues. (Keenan also won it with the Rangers before coming to the Blues)

They've been doing this kind of stuff since their inaugural season when they got swept in the finals. It's not one player or coach.

On a non-Blues topic. It feels great to see my Wings returning to their early season form. Mrazek is just playing great! Especially considering he's the only goalie to shutout Tampa all year, and now he's done it 3 times. Throw in the PK and PP returning to the way they were the first 2/3rds of the season, and things are looking good. Now to close this out back at the Joe.

Geez...this is going to be a wild one. End of the 1st, Chicago has already replaced Darling, and the Preds have already blown a 2 goal lead. 3-3 after 20 minutes. The Preds are getting killed on draws though. Any mistake they make Chicago makes them pay for. Penalty, lose faceoff, goal. They look good in the neutral zone, but they need to tighten up the defense and stop it with the boneheaded mistakes.

Ugh...Chicago has Nashville on the ropes. Feels like the knockout punch is just a matter of time. Preds need to step it up. Do or die time.

Edit - Yep...called it. That sequence was ridiculous. No defense from Nashville. It felt like Chicago was on powerplay for 5 minutes. Always had somebody open. They really missed Weber tonight. Sucks that he couldn't tough it out and play. His team needed him tonight.

Whatever his injury was, it must be pretty serious. He isn't the type of player to miss games.

Back then it was all bad ownership and run badly. In the inaugural season it was set up so that a 67 club had to make the cup finals. When teams are allowed to keep their best players I'd say that St. Louis was able to draft well out of what was available and make it work. They have good ownership and a good GM that isn't trying to relive his past I think they can do it. I think the ownership, as much as I'm not a fan of Stillman, is a good ownership. The GM if he can forget Dallas and build for the NHL the way it is today can get it done. With the prospects the Blues have a bright future. Provided they get a coach willing to accept them. Hitchcock really doesn't care for young talent and that's also an issue.

On different note I'm glad Calgary won last night to continue on. Little upset that Nashville couldn't make it 7. So far I'm 100% on picking teams to move on for my bracket. I'm I think 50% on picking the number of games. That could all end today with Blues and Wild with the Wild 3-2 and Montreal and Ottawa with Montreal 3-2. I'm hoping both go to 7 and I just get the number of games wrong and Blues and Ottawa can find a way to win 2 in a row.

And the blues are done.....again. I don't mind losing, but they were just so GD bad. Some of the core players are going to have to go in the offseason. They have had enough chances to get it done with very good teams and they just can't do it. Congrats and good luck to MIN.

Yup...what a horrible fuck up the Western Conference became. If not for Calgary, it would be same old garbage teams again. Such a fucking disappointment. St. Louis and Nashville battle the entire season for 1st in the Central, just to get bounced by two lower teams in the first round.

I'm 100% rooting for Calgary from this point forward. Gotta love the way Gaudreau plays and at least they stepped up when they needed to.

I'm with you. Go Flames for the West. After Nashville that was who I wanted to see in the West. Those young guys are playing with so much heart and Hartley has done a great job. As of right now I say he has to be the front runner for coach of the year. Him, Laviolette, Capuano, and Trotz would be my top 4.

I don't know if all the teams are doing this that aren't in the playoffs, but the Avalance facebook just seems to be daily posts of old games where Avs score on teams that are in the playoffs.  Seems almost like whoever is running the account is bitter about how bad they did this year.

Finally, the full details of Shea Weber's "lower body injury" that made him miss the final 4+ games of the Chicago series:

Shea Weber suffered a subluxed kneecap during Game Two of the Nashville Predators playoff series against the Chicago Blackhawks. After multiple evaluations, Shea underwent a medical procedure. He is expected to make a full recovery within four to six weeks.
So, he wouldn't have been back for the rest of the playoffs anyway. Shitty way to end a season.

When a player doesn't return in the playoffs, especially a series clincher, you know it was a bad injury. especially for Weber.

Heard Stillman on the radio yesterday.  You could hear the disappointment in his voice.  They were trying to get him to drop names, but he wouldn't do it.  Fans seem to be mixed on getting rid of the core, getting rid of the coach and for both.  I think the core does need a wake up call, and if that's getting rid of some I'm fine with it.  St. Louis has prospects that could end up in the NHL next season anyway.  As for the coach I didn't want him back this season.  Fans talk about how great his system is and how it works, but the past 4 years it hasn't.  He hasn't coached a team to win a round 2 game in 10 years.  I was really hoping to see St. Louis and Nashville play each other next week and then for the conference finals see St. Louis and Calgary.  I guess now I'll be waiting for updates on my phone on what happens next.  I can't see them keeping all of the core and the coach here in St. Louis.  A message has to be sent to the core that will be left and new players that they will be held accountable for this stuff as well as the coach, and that they can't keep running a coach out.  Hitchcock needs to just be moved into his front office position and give up coaching if he isn't going to change his system for today's hockey.

Yeah, I'd be down for a Lightning vs Flames finals.

Rematch of '04?
I'd rather Rangers/Flames of course.
....and by the way, tonights game sucked. How about we play to the whistle boys?

If you guys lived here in the East, you'd hate the Canadiens. Their constant crying over everything is unbearable.
I actually used to like them a little until this current team. Now I can't stomach them.

For me it's not about hating the Canadians, it's I just can't stand Subban.  I really want a Tampa Bay and Calgary/Anaheim series.  I really don't want Chicago in the cup finals and I really don't want Minnesota in them.  If Chris Stewart wasn't on that damn team I wouldn't mind them going, but the way he has played he doesn't deserve his name on the cup or to even be in a cup finals.  The guy only played for St. Louis his contract year and from what I hear he did the same for Colorado before being traded.  He's in his contract year now playing for a team that can make the playoffs and maybe even be considered a cup contender.  I'm willing to bet the sign him for a stupid amount of money compared to what he's really worth for no less than a 3 year deal with the last 2 him having a no trade clause.  He will play really well next season so that they don't trade him before his NTC kicks in and then Minnesota fans will see the same Chris Stewart that other teams have.  Hell when Buffalo fans say he was lacking you know something is wrong.

I just get annoyed by all the douchey Canadiens fans with their "Olé" song. Dudes, you don't need to be serenading the thousands of people standing out here waiting to get into Staples Center.

Yupp, he has the skill to be really good, I just don't get how he can't do it all the time. We waited forever here in Colorado for him to become consistent. Would go through stretches were he was elite, and next thing you know getting scratched, never made sense.

I thought someone would find this humorous. The Ps4 Tampa Bay lightning theme actually says Tampa Bay Lighting on the font.

Jeez, really? Lol

I don't mind the Canadian fans as much as the Detroit fans. When they played at the Joe, every little thing the fans would have an uproar about. At least in this one, the fans are a little more chill. I can't tell you how hard Red Wings fans cried over the Kronwall suspesion. Also, when the Wings played their last game at home (not knowing if they would be back or not), that arena cleared out quick. So sad to see that.

Also, with Kucherov scoring the OT winner and being named first star, he skated out and gave a puck away...mind you, it was an away game! Lol. Gotta love Kuch!

Here's to hoping for an 04 rematch of Calgary and Tampa!

Looks like the Rangers are going to need another one of their 3-1 comebacks, like last year. Very similiar to last year too: second round, game 5 on a Friday, Game 6 on Mothers Day.
I'm actually feeling much more confident than last year that they can pull it off.

I wouldn't say the fans were crying, but more pissed off. Especially after our guys were getting headshot all series long, yet none of those were reviewed. Yet Kronner gets suspended on a play the the DPOS said Kucherov was legal to be hit and ruled it charging despite the fact that by definition wasn't.

As for the fans, hard to point a finger at their uproars when Cooper himself was crying before game 6 about the Wings "cheating".

The leaving early part is a joke though. The problem the Wings have is that so many of their tickets are company owned and are given to casual fans that could give two shits about the team. That and suddenly the fan base gets huge during the playoffs.

The same thing happens here in GR. They average just over 8k/game with Fridays and Saturdays being a consistent sellout at just under 11k. Weds games are usually in the 5-7k range... Yet the second the playoffs start first and second round games are usually sold out the night before or the morning of, and the Conference Finals and Cup Finals are usually sold out within 24 hours of going on sale.

Back to the playoffs though, I'm hoping to see a Caps/Lightning East Finals that goes 7. I wouldn't mind either of them or Calgary hoisting the Cup... Just as long as it's not Chicago or Anaheim.

As bad as it sounds, it will probably be Washington - Chicago for the cup.  Chicago does this every time, look bad down the stretch but get hot at the right time.

And Washington may finally be putting it together, they aren't completely reliant on their big guns and are actually getting secondary scoring from new comers.  And Holtby is playing well.

Yeah...I'd be fine with Tampa Bay or Washington winning. Honestly, Ovechkin has paid his dues, man. He deserves one at this point.

And seriously, fucking fuck Chicago...I hope Marian Hossa's dick gets stuck in Patrick Kane's ass...

So yea, Roszival broke his ankle last night.....
