Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is only $1

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/xbox-game-pass-ultimate/cfq7ttc0khs0

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is a new subscription option that gives you Live Gold and Game Pass for one monthly fee.  With this deal, you will get the first month of Ultimate for $1, plus it will convert any remaining months you have on your existing subscriptions to Ultimate (up to a maximum of 36 months/3 years).

For example, you currently have 6 months of Live Gold.  Sign up with this deal and get 7 months of Ultimate ($1 for first month, 6 months of Live Gold converts to 6 months of Ultimate).

Second example: you have 9 months of Xbox Live Gold left and you have 6 months of GP left.  First month for $1 + 9 months + 6 months = 16 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Edit:

Additional tips below.

Once subscribed/converted to Ultimate, if you go to the Xbox website, you can turn off recurring payments if you don't want to pay $15 after your sub ends.

Potential way to maximize your $:  The longest possible Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription is 3 years.  If you can find Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass deals for cheap, buy enough so the total of those plus your current remaining months

Just a heads up, the website now says 14 days left for the promo so all the stuff I was told was either a lie or no one knows what they are talking about.

It could be that they meant the first time you convert to GPU will always add up all your time, and it's just the $1 deal that's going away in two weeks. If after the two weeks are up you can still get this exact same deal, only it goes up to $15, that's still not too bad.

No, a supervisor told me after he put me on hold 2 times to ask different people that it's always going to be a $1 intro price for first timers.

There may always be an intro offer... but there won't always be a 1:1 conversion rate into offer.

Personally, I'd recommend anybody interested in the deal to jump on it before that timer runs out.

This is a no brainer, fellas.
Actually, this deal doesn't seem like a "no brainer" to me. I've been dragging my feet about this deal after reading it.

Maybe because I'm a PS4 guy (but I do have an Xbox One X).

I'm looking at the games on Game Pass, and none of them really interest me. I don't need an active LIVE sub because I don't play multiplayer games that require it (I'm not even subbed to PS+). I don't know what the point of Game Pass on PC is (if you have an Xbox), since most games are Play Anywhere.

I really only care about the tentpole titles. So after E3, it looks like: Gears 5, Ori 2, and that's it. Both should cost me less than $150; and I get to own them forever, or resell to get ~50% money back.

Just because something is cheap in relation to it's MSRP, doesn't mean it has value. I think what a lot of people are doing is comparing the typical $60 game price, to this deal. This is a flawed comparison, due to the differences in consumer options with regards to physical v. digital.

A lot of people are also forgetting that the games on Game Pass can be removed from the program. This allows Microsoft to limit the value of Game Pass, creating a "ceiling". If it was simply an ever-expanding library where games just keep getting added, that would be a different thing.

What Microsoft has done with Game Pass is to give people a sense of 'power' with choice. They pay a low monthly price, and say to themselves, "look at all these games I can choose from!" -- a focus on quantity, with little regard to actual title quality.

And there's a whole entire point about time limitations. When a busy month comes out with 2-3 major titles, you are going to focus on those games instead. You only have a limited amount of time. But you're still giving Microsoft $5/month, because you've committed to 3 years.

I quoted one person, but it's addressed to all. I've read through the thread and there really wasn't a closer examination on what is actually at play here; maybe because for some it really is a good deal for their situation, and maybe others jumped in due to FOMO (fear of missing the deal).

I don't mean to crap on the deal, it's just me sharing my thoughts on the value assessment (being a typical cheapass), and figured this deserved to be put under the lens. If I missed some aspect of this deal, let me know.

Keep in mind that yes games do get removed but games also get added every month. I have a switch, Xbox One X and a PS4 and Game Pass has a lot of games that I am interested in. Also, Games with Gold actually does give you free 360 and original Xbox games every month. By free I mean really free as you get to keep them forever. This is the first time I've ever subscribed to gold live. I believe online gaming should be free but I recognize a good deal when I see one and for me, this Game Pass Ultimate promo is a tremendous value.

Over the next three years that I am subscribed, I am going to get my money's worth and then some. I am definitely going to want to play the new Halo and new gears game and that's $120 right there if I would buy them. Yes, I get to keep them forever but I can also buy them later on when they much cheaper when my GPU subscription ends if I want to play them again. During that time, I would have gotten a lot of free 360 and original Xbox games and played all of the games I might have missed or brand new ones that come out.

For those reasons alone, it's a deal everyone should take advantage of. Then again, if you don't play a lot of games like I do, I can see why someone wouldn't want to pay for gold but I got those three years at a very very good deal. I did not pay $180. Not even close.

It's a no brainer if you actively subscribe to Gold or want to, not just everyone no matter what. If you have Gold, you are basically extending it one month for $1 plus getting GP for PC and console for the length of time you have Gold. That's a no brainer value for a buck (if you have use for Gold).

Also, you can't find anything worth playing in that list of games? Wow. It's not mindblowingly amazing, but there's a lot of great stuff in there.

It seems like there were only 10-20 play anywhere titles included beforehand and now they tout that the PC gamepass includes over 100 games. I'm sure there are plenty that are also on console that aren't play anywhere that are now included on both.

That said, as you said, it's not for everyone, but nothing ever is.

This deal might not be right for you, but most of the people here already subscribe to Gold. If you already have a gold sub and you are planning to keep it for 3 years, then this deal will get you 3 years of Game Pass for $1. That's a no-brainer.

It may not be a big deal to you but it's a no-brainer for millions who've jumped on this deal. I own both a PS4 and XONE, primarily game on the PS4 and I jumped on this deal. First off you get all 1st party Microsoft games fro free on release day. Then you get AAA+ budget games added to the list like Wolfenstein II, Metro Exodus, Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Just these three games alone are free when you have Ultimate, so no need to purchase or rent. New games are added all the time.

With XBL Gold just like PS Plus you get free monthly games. I'm actually seriously thinking of just paying the $15 per month when this deal expires for me. I've pretty much gone digital this Gen so I rarely buy physical games anymore. The bottom line is "whatever works best for you". But this deal is just plain awesome for the millions who didn't think twice and jumped on it.

You seem to be a good problem solver like myself. My PS4 collected dust so I sold it. You can't make this deal be a no brainer when it clearly isn't for you.

Looks like PC and Console game pass add up. So for people *new* to game pass:

1. Buy and redeem 1 month promotional Game Pass card (currently $2.49 at cdkeys)

2. Turn on auto renew when asked for 1 more free month (you can just cancel after)

3. Get 1 month from PC game pass from the Xbox beta app ($1 for the first month)

4. Finally, upgrade to ultimate adding one more month ($1)

4 months, $4.50. If you have additional Xbox live or non-promotional game pass codes add them between steps 3 and 4.

Im thinking of buying 12 months gold then getting the game pass to mainly play Gears 5 rather then buy Gears 5 for 80 and another 60 for xblg. It would save me 80-90 dollars as long as Gears 5 never leaves the game pass lineup.

So are there any good deals on XBLG at the moment? I think cdkeys had 12 months for about 52 dollars.

Nothing amazing like the $40 deals earlier in the year. I think everyone knows they can jack them back up to near full price right now and everyone will still be snapping them up at even just $5 off to take advantage of the GPU deal.

there is a person selling 6 months of gamepass in the trading forum for about $20, check there, I bought a code to get myself up to 34 total months (12 months game pass and 22 months gold) of ultimate.

You're right, this deal doesn't work for me.

As I said before, I don't subscribe to either PS+ or XBox Live Gold. I used to be subscribed to PS+, but as someone said on another forum, they didn't even bother to play most of the free monthly games. And I realized I didn't either. More savings for me. (And after looking at the newly released PS+ games for July, I made a good decision.)

The bulk of the games on Game Pass are mostly indie titles, smaller titles, with a few bigger ones that are past their prime, and the 1st party. The ones like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Wolfenstein II, and etc are all games that I played during release window. And if I really wanted to, I could buy them now for much cheaper since they've been out for months already; all without having to hurry and rush through them in the event the game is taken off Game Pass. Then I could trade it in, and it'd basically be a few dollars out-of-pocket, with peace of mind.

I'll pass on Game Pass Ultimate -- also I don't believe for a second this "deal" won't ever come again for new Ultimate subscribers. I'll commit to it if Microsoft ever has a grand line-up of 1st-party titles in a row.

***

Like I said before, I only care about Gears 5 and Ori 2. And so it looks like a 6 months Game Pass would be perfect for me. I can activate it in September for Gears 5, and it would last me all the way to Ori 2 in February.

I would only end up paying $20, instead of the $150 others are paying for the 3-year commitment. This is the smart play.

Although I enjoy Gears multiplayer as well, Borderlands 3 is coming out the week after, and so I don't have any time for it. I'll just use the Game Pass to play the Gears 5 campaign and then toss it aside. September is stacked.

The savings I get will go towards the cost of either of the new consoles in 2020. Smart plan by Microsoft to tempt people into this deal; since they would likely consider the Scarlett as their platform since they've invested so many years into Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold...

Slight correction, but an important one. Keep in mind the $1 offer is for a month, so something like having 8 months of Gold plus 4 months of Game Pass, adding in the $1 Ultimate offer, you'll end up with 1 year and 1 month of Ultimate. But that also means, to maximize the offer, it's best to have 2 years and 11 months or less of Gold and Game Pass combined due to the three year limit.
So I have 16 months of gold and 17 months of gamepass. I should be good to go

There's also "Outer Worlds" (multi-plat game) launching on Game Pass on release date and "Blair Witch" also (though it's not multi-plat).

How are you going to pay $20 for 6 months if this deal expires in 8 days? Not being sarcastic, I'd like to know for a friend.

The smart play would have been getting free bing points everyday and then using those free bing points to get 12 months of live for 22500 points or lower and maxing out your free xbox live membership for three years and then use bing points for free microsoft credit on sale and using your free microsoft credit to pay for the $1 upgrade.

You keep spending money, it will cost me $0 real money to play Gears Of War 5 Ultimate. By the time my free membership expires, Gears Of War 5 will probably be a free Games With Gold game. Let alone I will probably never want to play it again by then.

I have been an Xbox One owner since January 2019 and a little confuse about this deal. I don’t have Live Gold but I have 1 month left of Game Pass. Just say I get 12 months of Xbox Live Gold subscription and buy the $1 Ultimate Pass. How many months of Xbox Ultimate Pass do I get? Thanks.

Should be around 13 or 14 months total of Ultimate.

As sethrhf said, you should get 14 months of GPU, but the deal will get even better if you can get even more Gold or Gamepass, up to 3 years total.

I grabbed two from MassGenie. They're currently processing my order. I knew MassDrop changed their name recently but incorrectly thought this was what they chang their name to. Seems legit though. Glad I waited, since $40-$45 has been my preferred price for years for XBL. Deals were few and far between on year subs once the $1 deal began

Has anyone had a problem installing the xbox beta app on their PC or laptop? I recently traded in my xbox so no xbox in on my device list and I'm thinking that's why. The MS store says I own the app but when I try to install, it says something about no device for the download. My laptop is my device list.

Also can I login into windows under a separate username from my xbox username? For example, I login into my business username so I have access to MS office but want to use my xbox ID for gamepass to install games. This is my laptop so its not locked against software's or apps.

In order to install the xbox beta app, I had to manually update to Win 10 build 1903. I additionally had to turn off my antivirus (Panda Dome). Those were the only problems I had.

I'm not using this deal. There was someone selling a 6 months Game Pass for $20 in the trading forums on here.

Or, you can just pay the $10 it costs for monthly Game Pass to get the game you want (or $5 on PC). Like $10 in September for Gears 5, and another $10 in February for Ori 2.

Much cheaper overall than committing to GPU for 3-years.

Also don't bother with LIVE Gold for the "free" games. Do what I did and actually research them -- it's never worth it.

Here is the list of GWG free games for the past 6 months. Wikipedia link to all of them.

  • Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
  • Far Cry 2
  • Assassin's Creed: Rogue
  • Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
  • Star Wars Republic Commando
  • Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
  • Star Wars: Battlefront II
  • Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2
  • Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon
  • Comic Jumper
  • Portal: Still Alive
  • Earth Defense Force 2017
If Microsoft gave you a deal with the option to: 1) take these mess of games, or 2) $30 cold hard cash, I'm taking the cash every time.

(The $30 cash is the money in your pocket, from not buying LIVE Gold, assuming 12-year sub is $60)

But instead of this offer with the full games listed by title, you don't know exactly what you are getting upfront. Same with PS+. Not to mention the serious time investment you need to put into these games in order to make it worth your while. I'd rather be spending my time playing the games I want, reducing my backlog, rather than whatever free game they decide to toss at me that month.

Live Gold for multiplayer makes even less sense if their games come to PC (Play Anywhere), where there is no payment required to play online. But people have more money than sense sometimes, and they would rather defend their purchase decision rather than look objectively at a deal.

Is it normal for them to not even be in my order history? Also, I currently have 0 months of live. Is the best method to maximize this deal still to buy 3 years of live and then convert it to ultimate for $1?
I ordered one yesterday and it appears in my order history, and I can click "Track Package", but the code does not display like the item page (which is now down) said it would. Did anyone get theirs?

Or you could just have got all your Gold and Game Pass time from Bing/MS Rewards to begin with and be out nothing. Even with that I don't know of basically anyone that's on this forum that's going to pay retail for Gold or Game Pass. It's pretty amazing someone can see 6 months into the future, nvm 3 years, and know for a fact there will be no games they might want to play.

Yes, or any combination of Gold and Game Pass up to 3 years, but usually gold is cheaper unless you find a great deal on Game Pass. If you are going for a full 3 years of Gold, be very careful not to accept any bonus months for auto-renew, because if a code would make you exceed 3 years of Gold membership, you won't be able to redeem it.

Yea bought a 2yr GP code off Reddit in Oct for $100 and the other day I got a 12m XBL from same guy for $40. Threw out that $1 like Im Daddy Warbucks and next charge of $15 is March 2022. Jokes on them, I probably wont be alive that long :D/ :D/ :D/ :D/

Hey did you ever get the codes from mass genie, I bought 2 for $46 7 hours ago and still haven’t gotten them.
Just woke up and checked, and nope. The deal that I purchased ended yesterday at 5pm and reviews from other buyers made it seem like I'd get my codes within a few hours of it ending. This morning before I went to sleep it said they were both still processing and I planned on inquiring about when they'd finish processing them via chat when I woke up. One of them says preparing for shipment now and the other says the payment failed and to update my payment info (used the same payment for both; maybe there was a limit of one per person?). Anyway, I'm not too pleased with them so far.
