A few people have mentioned that we should start a 4k thread. Hopefully if this is popular enough that a mod will make it permanent. To start off so far I've wathced Pineapple Express, Chappie, and Enders Game in 4k. I thought Pineapple and chapple looked great, they were crisp and the colors were fantastic. Enders looked better than the 1080p blu but wasn't as impressive.

I know best buy is going to have $17.99 4k movies on black friday, I'm hoping for some $15 one though.

Can you screw yourself out of the 4k digital version by claiming it on the wrong movie site?

I claimed my 4k Across the Universe code on Movies Anywhere and it shows up as HDX on Vudu. I made sure to claim my Magnificent Seven 4k on Sony Pictures linked through UV to Vudu and that one shows up as UHD

Sounds like you redeemed Across the Universe correctly. Vudu currently does not have it in UHD, but when they do, it should upgrade. Check iTunes though, they have it in 4K.

A couple of questions just so I understand correctly. I recently purchased a 4k TV. I use VUDU on my PS4 PRO. As long as I redeem a code from a 4K Bluray purchase, it will redeem in 4K if available on VUDU correct?

As far as iTunes, doesn't matter if it's a Bluray code or a 4k code, it will either upgrade or redeem in 4k if available? Is this correct?

Also, is the quality in streaming a 4k movie just as good as playing a 4k bluray from a player? Are all the benefits available when streaming, HDR, etc?

Thanks much!

It's gotten much more confusing. Use this sheet to determine where to redeem your code to get 4K. There are some movies where the code only redeems HD.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZsJkCX4DIv2oeCKQ7zp2ArkR1qKEXCUuCMBbUtHtmh4/edit#gid=0

Only certain movie studios participate in the itunes 4K upgrade. Disney is not one of them. Most codes do not redeem in itunes directly.

4K disc will always be better than streaming. HDR is all dependent on the service being used. Some have Dolby Vision, some have HDR, some have none. Depends on the movie/service.

One more thing, PS4 Pro is not listed on their list of devices where UHD is supported. Xbox One S supports it though.

I've been watching this site as well to make sure I get 4k: https://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/4k-ultraviolet-headaches-how-where-to-redeem-digital-copies-in-4k-uhd/39456

But now just a couple months later, even this is starting to get dated with the constant changes :/

They're still active.
Notice they were stile active last night and got Mad max, Blade runner 2049, and Dunkirk for just the tax after the $45 and a $5 points reward. Thanks for posting deal

Damn, it was probably too much to ask for IT to be a part of the 3 for $50. Makes sense, but a fool can dream. Wonder if they'll add more before the new end date, ala the similar Amazon 4K deal.

I know it's a disc thread, do we care about 4k digital? Got Atomic Blonde for $7.49 on Fandango's weekly sale.

Target has 20% off movies, no preorders. At this point I'm waiting for BF to get the movies I've been waiting for.

Thanks for the heads up on the sale, but it works fine on some preorders, I just did it on Gladiator and Braveheart. I see The Patriot is an option as well. No go on Black Panther or Saving Private Ryan for whatever reason.

Yep, thanks OP.  I got 20% off Gladiator and Braveheart making them $20 each. Looks like Player One works but not worth it at $29.99.  Luckily Amazon dropped Saving Private Ryan to $19.96 and I snagged The Patriot while it was priced all the way down to $14.72 (Now $19.96)

Oh shit, just grabbed Saving Private Ryan, thanks for the heads up, that's a steal. High Def Digest gave it 4.5/5 in video, said it's gorgeous and a big step up from the blu ray.

Yeah, Matrix hasn't aged well for me TBH. It was great for its time, but now I've had no drive to see them again heh.

Were there a lot of good 4k deals last Black Friday and Cyber Monday?  I want to start getting some 4K Blu-rays.  I only own Days of Future Past and it's not even native 4K.  I am a grain sob though so I can't wait to see Blade Runner 2049 since it's digital so there's no grain.  What movies do you own that don't have any grain that you would recommend?  I love Ready Player One and that will be tough for me to wait until November to get so that's probably one I will pick up the day it comes out.  I need to start looking for 4K deals. Oh and can I just buy the 4K Blu ray by itself or do I have to buy it packaged with the BD and digital copy?  Why do they make us buy all 3?

Fair amount of pretty good deals. I would have bought many more if I wasn't under a tight budget. At least we don't have to get DVD copies anymore? I agree getting all is dumb and a cheap justification to charge more.

Target will have some decent 4K deals in next week's ad.  I don't have it in front of me right now but I seem to recall Red Sparrow and Dunkirk will be around $13 each.

Also, I picked up Blade Runner: The Final Cut 4K today at Target.  There is a 30% off cartwheel coupon for it and it comes with $7 in ATOM movie money.  Ended up costing me $17.49 ($24.99 - 30% off) plus it still has the $7 in movie money to get.  Also had a nice slipcover!

$9.99 was the cheapest I saw for 4K movies over that frame, and there were very few of them. Most were $14.99 and up, and a lot of newer films, like Logan or the Christopher Nolan films, were not on sale at all, or for close to normal price. No $3.99-$5.99 deals like we get with regular Blu Ray.

As for the packaging with Digital and BD discs, I prefer to think of them as bonuses. I've never heard of any 4K only movies being released, but 4K is similar to (some say a replacement for) 3-D. The few 3-D disc only movies (Shrek films, Oz the Great and Powerful) are usually not any cheaper than ones which include 2-D discs.
