Ace Combat 5 only $4.99 at SEARS! Major YMMV

Yeah, so, I didn't read much of this thread. If somebody's Sears actually honors, I will pay you $20 for 3 copies of Ace Combat 5.

Not to shit on your offer, but the price of the game + shipping + the hassle of getting them at that price would far outwiegh $20. I would offer at least $20 a piece. That's still an amazing bargain.

If there are people that come in here this weekend and start to complain about how unfairly Sears (or any other store for that matter) treated them due to this sale, I\\\'ll laugh right in thier faces... unless compelled by law, stores aren\\\'t going to just bend over and take $30+ loss per unit because some lamebrain in the printshop put the wrong picture in the ad.

In fact, I wouldn\\\'t be too shocked if Sear just decided to pull Ace Combat 5 off of the shelves until after the sale is over just to not have to deal with the whiny hordes that decend on them (and to minimize the chance they could create a situation where they could create a disgruntled customer

Sears cannot legally hide something on sale. They'd lose even more money by doing that from the lawsuits they get hit with.
I'm no lawyer, but that statement doesn't make sense. All they have to do to comply with the ad is have some games on sale for $4.99. Once they are gone, it doesn't matter, since they stated titles vary by store, no store has to have Ace Combat 5 for sale at all, and even if they do, they can tell you that at their particular location, that isn't one of the titles that is selling for $4.99. However, just because they have it in stock, does not mean they have to sell it, I don't think. I mean, stores regularly receive games before the release date, and they aren't allowed to sell them, so I don't see why they couldn't just keep them in the store room.
A store can't purposely hold a game back if it's on sale. If they have it in stock, they have to put it out.
But, as I stated, titles vary by store, so no store has to have AC5 as one of the sale games. Also, if an item is advertised as being on sale, but the store can prove it is a misprint, they do not have to honor the sale price (this may vary by state).

doubt anyone would sell 3 copies for 20 when they can fetch 20 each or more on ebay... O and by the way good luck getting any price match cause this is so Much talked about Every store is going to know its a misprint and NONE will match ..

THey will simply call up sears ,.,. sears will say its a misprint and no price match simple as that

I just got the ad in the paper today, anyone know when it applies? The cover emphasizes an 'incredible saturday sale' but the doorbusters are specified on the front page? sorry if it's already been mentioned.

It should say it somewhere in the top or bottom of the front or back page.

I rememeber a few months ago Best Buy made a mistake on an item in one of their ads. All they have to do is post a notice that there is an error on the printed ads and they can sell the item at regular cost.
Well, just regular, cheap, shipping is all I'm looking for. Not priority mail or anything.
So, are the other 2 copies for gifts?

I'll go check the Friday ad then. Although, I don't thing there is a way they will honor these unless I grow a second penis.

I can't believe nobody else addressed this, so I will. Ace Combat 5 is an amazing game. It got 8.3 from GS and 9.3 from IGN. I totally disagree with GS's score, it should be given at least a 9. This is my only Ace Combat game, so maybe I'm a little biased towards this game, but, I paid $49.99 for it and I'm quite satisfied with my purchase (I pre-ordered to get a couple of bonuses, so yeah, go ahead and call me a dork or stupid if you want). It has over 50 real life Aircraft and a couple of ones you wish were real. The games graphics are amazing, I couldn't believe how good my replays looked (you can't save them though).

Ace Combat 5 has a Puddle of Mudd song in part of the intro, so add or subtract points if you'd like. It has cinemas and a interesting story, I don't know if it's good or great because I'm not a very good judge of that sort of thing, so I dunno. The characters might seem a bit whiny when it comes to the anti-war stance they have (there isn't a blood thirsty destroy everything character), but a few service people I know would rather not go to war unless they absolutely had to. You can give commands to your wingman and answer yes or no to questions which will effect which missions you play. It sounds and looks great, and it plays damn well too. The missile trails look great and some of the music seems to fit some of the missions really well. There was only one stage bgm that I didn't particularly care for, but it didn't sound bad, it just didn't appeal to me.

There is a couple of stupid glitches like the computer flying underwater or into and under the ground, but that doesn't happen very often and shouldn't effect 99.99% of the gameplay (although that .01% is kinda annoying when the computer does a maneuver you wish you could do too...)

It has several levels of difficulty to accommodate players of all skill levels. You can shoot down other ace pilots or whatever they're called to unlock different paint schemes. It doesn't have online or multiplayer, but multiplayer in Ace Combat 4 felt gimmicky too some of the people I talked to, and it doesn't make up for everything else it lacks compared to 5.

With 30+ missions and an Arcade mode, IMO, this is one of the best games of the year (top 10 probably). If you can get over the fact that the planes in this game are carrying 60+ missiles, you'll have a lot of fun blowing stuff up and dog-fighting. If you demand that your games have airplanes that can only carry 4-8 missiles, this game isn't for you (on higher levels they limit your machine guns to 800 rounds of ammo, but that's for Ace level and I've never played on Hard or Extreme so...). If I didn't pre-order it, I probably would have paid $30-$40 for it, so $5 is quite a steal.

A store can't purposely hold a game back if it's on sale MY ASS. I worked at TRU for 11+ years, and we were ordered to do that many times for a number of reasons, from misprints to other stores having something on sale lower than TRU wanted to PG. A store can and will do just that if they can get away with it...and they usually do (unless you know someone you trust who works there)!

I will be price matching for sure. I did the same thing last year with a ad for Gauntlet Legends ad TRU. It was listed at $20 at Value City and I price matched a "Selection varies ad"
CC employees might question the +10% price match though
If I were sears, I would only order 1 per store, that way you cut your losses and dont get the pants sued off
I think that's actually a good idea, maybe even 2 per store, that way they lose maybe 70$ plus they will get a ton of business from people going there looking for it. They will also save some bad publicity and word of mouth. I doubt they could actually be sued if they plaed disclaimers. If they just tell people sorry we sold out, I doubt anyone will bitch and those that do get it will be gratefull. This really sounds like a good idea.

I think they do, but not in this instance.
Does sears do rain checks? (the normal kind , NOT targets)
If they're not going to honor this price when it's in stock, they won't on a raincheck.

This sale wouldn't even qualify for a raincheck anyways, so long as they have some game... any game... available in thier "Value Software" bins selling at the 4.99 price point. There is a very specific reason why that "items vary by store" is added onto the ad.

That's also why I wouldn't doubt that Sears could hold back copies of Ace Combat 5... They still meet the terms of the sale they are offering (per the FTC guidelines for sales and advertising) even if they never, ever have a copy of any of those specific games in the ad in stock.

If they had an ad that didn't have the "items vary by store" tacked on, or if they had only a picture of Ace Combat 5 with 4.99 next to it, then they'd be opening themselves up to a world of hurt if they pulled them from the shelves.

Inspired by ProbesInRobes post, here is my mini-review of Ace Combat 4, in case it ends up that they offer it to you in place of AC5. It currently has a 85% rating (out of 50 reviews) at GameRankings.com. I really enjoyed AC4, even though I thought AC3 (which was a PS1 game) was so-so. The thing I think I liked most was the variety of the missions. One has you giving close air support to ground troops over a stormy beach; another places you in a huge aerial dogfight over an island base; a third has you attacking a port city and naval forces. Even though you are basically just blowing up targets every mission, it manages to stay fresh throughout all 18 missions. The graphics are very good, though the ground tends to look a bit blurry or blocky once you get close to it; otherwise it looks amazing. The sound is also great, and adds to the experience. There's lots of voice from both friendly and enemy forces, and it really makes you feel like you're in a huge battle; I think there is also different background music for every level, which will sometimes change depending on the situation. If there's any downside, it's that AC4's story mode is short. It can be beaten in about 3-6 hours, so if you just like to go through a game once to see the ending and never play it again, you may be disappointed. However, if you want to unlock all the different stuff (planes, weapons, paint schemes, etc.), it will probably take you 12-15 hours total. There's also a multiplayer mode (which I haven't tried) and a sort of challenge mode that you can unlock which has you racing around aerial courses or shooting down targets trying to beat records.

I think AC4 is a bargain at $20; at $5 it's a steal.

I hope this was useful to someone. If you have any questions about AC4, feel free to PM me.

If the videogame assortment at the one Sears I went to last night was any indication of what I'd be seeing, I won't bother. All of it was pretty much the top-tier rated items that have come out in the last few months, plus shockingly, some PS1 games.

I didn't see Ace Combat 5 there at all, so I doubt I'm making the trip. Would be cool if they did this online on Saturday, though I doubt that'll happen.

That's how they can slide out of this one unscathed, due to the "items vary by store", like TRU did with the B2G1 sale. It said "all items", but it also said "items vary by store".

If anyone manages to find a copy of this in-store at $5 I'll be truly amazed. Further proof of why I don't go to Sears very often.

I just got back from Sears, did not see any adds, but they did have all of the games in the add together and where AC 5 should be they had AC 4 in its place. There were all in little red cardboard bins with some print that said "Great games a a great price."

whoops, I meant to say I got it in the mail. We're on their mailing list so we get them pretty frequently(once, maybe twice a week).
Which paper? Wednsday Sun?
on the back it says the ad is a supplement to:

You make a good point, but I don't think anyone is going to go to Sears to take advantage of this. We know they won't honor it, so it's all up to PMing.
So AC4 is $5 right now at Target? I'm confused if this already has started or if it's next week.
Did you even read the topic title? It says Sears and the first post of this page has the ad. AC4 is supposed to be $5 this Saturday, but they accidentally pictured AC5. You should be able to get AC4 for $5.

I just remembered my local Sears stores don't sell games anymore...don't know why. I do remember picking up Soul Calibur for like 8 bucks new on their clearance for getting rid of that section...

Walmart and PMing here i come :)

I'll be lucky if I get the ad, first off, then I'll be doubly lucky if someone actually allows a PM from it. My guess would be WalMart or TRU. CC probably will just laugh in my face. BB isn't worth the trip. CompUSA might be worth a laugh or two about it.

And I might go pick up a copy of the newspaper just for this ad. :D

I wonder if this is a goof up from the dumb K-mart employees? FYI...Sears is now a upscale K-mart.

My local Wamlart had 10 Ace Combat 5's in...I am gonna buy all 10 if I can sell some give some away, etc.
