[adult swim thread]
This past sunday's episode was weak as hell.

Not sure why they feel the needs to put so much action in it... I don't mind a little when it helps move the story, but shit, I think they went overboard.
Actually, I thought yesterday's was the best since Black Jesus. For some reason, this show has been falling in comedy to me, "Itis", "MLK"(I understand why MLK wasn't suppose to be funny), "Garden Party","Granddad Fight","The Reality", all in my opinion weren't as funny as the first couple of episodes.

Anyone else love Samuel L. Jackson and Charlie Murphy on Boondocks? I think their fucking hilarious

Oh BTW, would the show "Mission Hill" be conisdered [adult swim]? I just watched the SAT episode last night, and it's a pretty funny show IMO.
Please. You're clearly mistaking your online gimmick for one hell of a creative show.
I agree. It seems it's a love it or hate it show. It's weird because I'm very much NOT into the whole hip-hop, gangsta subculture going on and I really dig the show alot. Maybe it's because I get the fact that it's one big satire. I don't find it offensive in the least because they make fun of everyone, not just black people or white people. If it was a show to attack solely blacks or solely whites I wouldn't be interested.

On a different note, while I'm glad to see Mission Hill back in the lineup, I'm sad to see that the Ranger Smith/Boo Boo joke isn't over yet. Come'on... we get it. It's a long running joke to see people complain on your website and to ask questions and make guesses. I'm hoping that the obvious dip in ratings they're getting in that time slot is worth the inside joke.

How about some Home Movies or VB in the slot now? Hmm?

Mission Hill was kinda brought back by [as] years ago and put toward then end of their Sunday lineup. TBS also used it in their "Too Funny To Sleep" late Friday/early Saturday line-up where Mr. Show is now... (which, while sometimes funny, Mr. Show seems very out of place).

If I'm not mistaken, it was a flopped WB/UPN show that was moved around alot and ultimately only lasted a season or so.

I thought it was funny as hell, when they apply to play for Volleyball as an extracaricular activity, and they pick the pregnant chick before them.

C'mon, "The 'Itis" was genius, although its underlying social message was unique (and, given that I've spent the past few days rereading William Julius Wilson, perfectly relevant). It seemed to veer away from being an attack on "soul food," however, and seemed more an attack on poor dietary choices of gluttonous Americans. That having been said, there were parts of the episode that were decidedly disturbing, rather than funny.

I haven't seen the kidnapping Oprah episode yet. I'll watch it sometime this week; speaking of which, I think the only voice actor I didn't recognize was Charlie Murphy; he's Gin Rummy's friend, right?

To is their own I guess, and yes Charlie Murphy is Rummy's friend.

The episode is hilairious because Rummy and Murphy think their perfect robbers when Murphy's character (The one from the Garden Party) is the son of the Mayor who runs and owns everything.

The whole bit on "Nigga technology" aka texting, was close to comical genius as i've ever seen.

I've seen about 3 episodes, (the first two and the MLK one), and I've had to shut them all off 2/3 of the way through due to extreme boredom. These aren't original or creative ideas or jokes, and the characters are mostly mediocre.

In fact, pretty much the entire show is the definition of mediocrity.

So I suppose if you like it, cool, but I'd recommend checking out the same type of material done better: Chris Rock's stand-up.

Oh yeah the character of Charlie Murphy is "Ed Wuncler".

Ed and Gin are great characters in the show since they're really stupid.

Mission Hill is not an AS show, as it was created for the WB, where it never succeeded. It's a very good show, but the WB just wasn't the right network for the show to succeed.
This past sunday's episode was weak as hell.

I don't see how you could not expect a lot of action when Ed and Gin are involved, as they seem to stupid to do otherwise. It's another great episode in the young series and I look forward to each new episode. The action is done well and adds a lot to the show, in my opinion. AS is doing well on creating good new shows for their sunday lineup.

From its horrible new shows to its ever changing lineups, I really cant stand adult swim these days. THere are like 5 shows i watch regularly on it, Futurama, Home Movies, Harvey, Full Metal and Champloo and lucky for me these shows are pinballed around to no end. Ohh and tonight I was lookin forward to some futurama, followed by some Home Movies, follwed by Full Metal. And to my surprise the lineup is completly fubared. I really think they have no idea what they are doing. THey order like 8 eps of a show and then wait a year and a half for another new episode, that kills the interest of people who want to see the show. Ohh and for further emphasis, I used to watch Adult Swim all night on Sun, now I barely watch 2 shows. Maybe its just me but I feel it blows now.

However much it sucks won't keep me from wearing and using the free swag I get from them. (currently wearing an Adult Swim T and I use an Adult Swim bag). However, I don't watch TV anymore, so I'm a little out of the loop on how good or bad they are anymore.

I quit watching Adult Swim for that exact reason.

There's quite a few shows I always liked watching(ATHF, Venture Bros, Samurai shamploo, FullMetal, etc.), but I didn't always have the time to watch religiously. It seemed liked everytime I tuned in the lineup had been changed around in some way, so I'd always miss what I wanted to see.

We do have an adult swim thread that you can bitch in.

AS has been doing well on the new show front, in my opinion, with Boondocks, Stroker and Hoop, Moral Orel, and new eps of Venture Brothers and Robot Chicken coming in the next few months. I'd grant you that 12 Oz. Mouse sucks beyond belief and Perfect Hair Forever isn't all that good. The only other thng I hated was the playing of that stupid Ranger Smith episode at the 2:30 slot on Sunday for a month straight, then proclaiming it was a "world premiere."

"Ohh and tonight I was lookin forward to some futurama, followed by some Home Movies, follwed by Full Metal. And to my surprise the lineup is completly fubared."

How is this? I don't see it ordered any differently in the schedule guide for my cable box. You need to explain this further. (edit: I've heard what's changed) If you're that dependent on HM being on at 12, you should have gotten the HM season sets so that you can watch them whenever you want. Is this about the anime rotation thing they've been doing with the 12:30 slot that was occupied by Inuyasha for a couple of years?

As for the delay between new episodes, what are your specific examples? Not every show is handled like that, but I know VB is taking a while for new episodes and Stroker Hoop got a greenlight for new episodes a year after the pilot. Boondocks will have its second season about a year after it debuted and Robot Chicken is getting new episodes about a year after it first came out, I think.

I used to watch this:

Family Guy (I have the DVD's now...so I don't watch)
Futurama (DVD's and I've seen them too many times...don't watch)
Home Movies (I LOVE THIS SHOW! Just started watching it!)
Moral Orel (A decent show...I'll watch it.)
The Boondocks (Don't see it on that often, but I like what I've seen)
Stroker & Hoop (Haven't seen it in a while, but I really liked it.)
Samurai Champloo (Saw a few and now I'm watching the subs on my own...)

I've seen two episodes of Perfect Hair Forever, and that is the worst crap I've ever laid eyes upon. (Though I want to see this 12 oz. Mouse or whatever everyone's saying is bad too...)

Yeah I'm pissed too. ATHF was shown instead of Home Movies. I was also looking forward to FLCL but Fullmetal showed up. I love the series but I've seen it about 4 times already. As for the new shows, all of them suck compared to the oldies they plug-in the moment something tanks. Stroker & Hoop is funny though.

Stroker and Hoop is decent.

Perfect Hair and 12 Oz. Mouse suck.

The Ranger Smith special should only have been on for one night.

FLCL should be on once a week forever.

Most of the shows are good though, Moral Orel and The Boondocks are quite good.

I noticed they are censoring stuff. For example on a episode of family guy they didn't show stewie's ass when he goes to piss on peter when he was boneless and he (stewie) had no crack.

They are very close to being the same show, with different art styles. I like them both, but each to his own.

I dont know if its technically part of Adult Swim but what the fuck is up with Bo bobo bo bobo bo?!!! That is literally the worst thing I've ever seen on tv (other than that senator shooting himself in the mouth a few years ago).

That's part of Toonami. AS tinkers with their schedule from time to time but usually they are pretty good about informaing about changes in the bumps and websites. I still enjoy watching the Boondocks, Stroker & Hoop, Champloo, & GITS:SAC. I can't wait for Robot Chicken & the Venture brothers to return. Good animation and (possibly stop motion) takes some time to produce which is why you see some time between new episodes.

Well, if you say that, than technically Family Guy, Futurama, Space Ghost: Coast to Coast and pretty much all the anime shows aren't AS either.

What's wrong with Space Ghost? He was created for the timeslot that AS now resides in.
Well, if you say that, than technically Family Guy, Futurama, Space Ghost: Coast to Coast and pretty much all the anime shows aren't AS either.
Space Ghost could be the only questionable one as it was created for Cartoon Network to be played at a late night slot before AS was around (probably made by early founders of Williams Street). Otherwise, like you said everything else you've mentioned aren't AS shows either, which I'm not sure who is making this confusion as AS just gets the rights to air these shows as part of their lineup.

-In other news, Stroker and Hoop is no more:
Hey -- It's Casper and Jeff, the creators of Stroker & Hoop. Thanks a ton to everyone who watched, laughed at, and fought for the show. It means more to us than you know, and so we won't leave you hanging.

We had season 2 mapped out and here is how it was going to start:

Stroker and Hoop died in the crash. Double-Wide survived, and was hanging on by a thread in the burn ward and having visions of Stroker and Hoop in the afterlife. Sadly, Hoop was being sent to lettuce Hell on a technicality (long story about lettuce hell). With Keith and CARR's help (CARR's brain and a hubcap survived the crash), Doublewide built a flat-liner device and had Keith pack his body on ice while he attempted an afterlife rescue mission. Just as Double-Wide was about to succeed, the doctors burst in and revived him. So in a last-ditch attempt to save his buddies, Double-Wide shot himself and Coroner Rick. Once in the afterlife, DW and CR teamed up with Stroker's dead dad (who was a custodian in limbo) and a dead Ninja (the one Hoop shot in episode 6) to try and save Hoop. After Stroker put together a series of small clues that culminated with God getting killed. For 20 minutes (the time it takes God's soul to return to the afterlife), there was no God around. Which gave Stroker, Hoop, Double-Wide, Coroner Rick, Stroker's dead Dad -- and a ton of people who had been quite justifiably condemned to Hell -- just enough time to escape back to Earth.

Thanks again.

We'll be back.

--Casper Kelly and Jeff Olsen
That would've been a most awesome episode to start a new season with. RIP Stroker and Hoop. I hope it will return at some point. :whistle2:(

-Also, Friday Night Fix has been expanded into a 24/7 internet network of archived shows for people to watch! There will still be new shows on Fridays before they air in the days afterwards, but this is pretty good news depending on what shows they're planning to put up on Adult Swim Fix.
In other news, Stroker and Hoop is no more:
...so 12 oz. Mouse is all good to go for more episodes and Perfect Hair Forever can still grace TV sets and yet Stroker and Hoop get tossed away? What a shame, what an absolute shame...

Yeah, I know. These shows that cut down before their prime always have these awesome sounding second seasons that would've been great to see in action.

I just stop watching on Sunday's now once Moral Orel is over (AS's best new show, hands down). Everything else after that is just stale, imo.

I think that Adult Swim has really taken a nose dive lately... Stroker and Hoop was great stuff, but alot of their shows (12 oz Mouse, Squidbillies, Perfect Hair Forever) have just flat out sucked.

Did "Tom Goes To The Mayor" get the axe, as well? Sometimes I feel as if I was the only person who thought the show was funny.

Ratings for Stroker and Hoop must have been absolutely horrible for CN to just give up on it.

AS is 5 for 8 so far in my opinion, with Boondocks, Stroker and Hoop, Robot Chicken, Venture Brothers, and Moral Orel being their best new shows and 12 Oz. Mouse, Squidbillies, and Perfect Hair Forever being the duds.

Tom Goes to the Mayor is in the process of getting new episodes, as they're working on season 2 right now. Have you checked the chat that they have up on the show's portion of the AS site?

Man, that is insane. Stroker and Hoop actually had plots that took more than 5 minutes to create.

How in the world is it that Tom Goes to the Mayor gets more episodes? I am beginning to wonder if the decision to cancel or continue a show is based solely on how cheap it is to make.

At least Venture Bros. should stick around for awhile.

Oh, and I agree that the AS/Williams Street inside jokes are getting old. ALl you had to do was see my rant about ATHF Vol. 4's "play all" to know how I feel about that crap.

So... the Boo Boo thing ran longer than Stroker and Hoop? C'mon [as], that's just not right!

I think [as] needs to focus their original work on half-hour series, which obviously shine, and when they want a new 15 minute show, find some way of re-using their Turner archives like they did for Birdman and Space Ghost. Those always seem to turn out good.

And I'd kill for some more shorts... my fave is the wonder twins trying to save the kid in the bear cave and digging a gopher moat to stop the bear...
My g/f got me Vol 4 for Christmas but I haven't gotten around to watching it... what's the joke?
Normally when you click on "play all" it plays each episode so you won't have to click play after each one ends. That's the way it was for each of the previous volumes. With volume 4 if you click "play all" it literally plays all the episodes at the same time. They didn't even bother putting in a proper "play all" feature with the "joke". I used the feature all the time in the previous volumes because the episodes are really short and it is handy to just let the machine play them all when I am busy and can't use the remote.

Here is the topic I made about it.

Ah, gotcha.

I'll have to try it out. But I can understand why you'd get pissed. I think they totally made up for it with Meatwad singing the ATHF theme accoustic on Volume 3. That was simply awesome.

On a side note, what's up with all of the bitching (not you GuilewasNK) about ATHF lately not being as good as it used to be? I think it's just as funny as always. I guess it's the whole "hip to hate the new stuff" trend we've been seeing lately (Star Wars, Family Guy, etc...)
How in the world is it that Tom Goes to the Mayor gets more episodes? I am beginning to wonder if the decision to cancel or continue a show is based solely on how cheap it is to make.
Honestly, there are moments where I like Tom Goes to the Mayor but they primarily revolve around the people acting as guests for the episode. I don't know whether it's the minor star power or better writing for most of those scenes or whatnot but I usually enjoy them more than the rest of the episodes, which I usually skip.

But damn, Adult Swim for me is pretty much finding out what's new with The Boondocks, catching a rerun of Robot Chicken and ATHF and then running away. That's just me, though. I have a campus movie channel that tends to run movies that are just out on DVD so...honestly, Adult Swim can't compare most of the time now.

By the way, any talk of Venture Brothers hitting DVD soon? I'd really like to sink money into that endeavor along with more of Home Movies and the upcoming Dr. Katz (even more quality...ahhh...).

It is really funny to watch the later episodes, then watch the first episode and note the differences in which you can tell where they thought they were going to take the show and where it actually ended up.

Lot of stuff happened in those first couple of episodes that I wish they would have kept.

It was one of the first original shows for CN when it was first starting out, and it was just them messing around with old footage, long before AS started.

Everything they air is crap. Except Fullmetal Alchemist, I'm warming up to the Boondocks, and I 've always liked Futurama and Family Guy. William's Street is low budget, low grade, low brow stuff all around though..they need to have more shows for girls...I hate to admit it but I wish some of their programming was a little bit more towards girls..I want to see something girly and fun.

Kind of contradicting yourself in the first two sentences, but that's really the point. They target males age 18-24, so "girly" shows probably wouldn't happen anytime soon unless some show seems to miraculously brings the females in.

I think FMA (although not girly) probably brings in a lot of women. My sister watches that all the time is she is a very casual anime fan.
