A more accurate statement would be to say that Amiibos are currently peaking and that purchasing level should come down starting in the late summer.

Because the SSB line is getting close to finished, and the future is going to hold a lot of reprints, alt colorways/costumes, and character retreads.

Today, with every new pre-order/release the lines at my stores keep getting more competitive (longer, or have to be there earlier)

We are basically getting in on the first editions.  You gotta keep everything in perspective and realize these things have only been out since around Thanksgiving (5 1/2 months).

I've had mixed experiences. One store escorted us all back to electronics for Rosalina, while another store ignored everyone standing outside for a MM 3DS and did nothing to prevent runners. Thankfully they were cowards and ran off when I called them out on it. Seriously though, did you think people who stood in line for hours would just turn over to your dumb ass who comes running in right at 8 AM?
You'd be surprised. A lot of people are easy pushovers that hate confrontation. A lot of other people will complain and complain under their breath but still not do anything about it.

I don't think that should be an excuse. Even Playstation 4s - one of the most highly anticipated video game items ever - could be found easier than a $.13/hr sweat shop manufactured toy 6 months after launch. This is just Nintendo being Nintendo

Who said that was an excuse? An excuse for what?? You just took that quote out of context from a post entirely about perceived demand.

What do you mean "no other products work like that?" Because anyone that follows fashion will you tell that amiibos are actually much more forgiving than certain sneakers or clothing brands like Supreme that have entire lines sell out in literal minuets.

Or if you do go to the store like Supreme on release there's a 3 hour line down the block.

:-({|= :-({|= :-({|=
Well considering that this is a gaming website and that I collect gaming related things, I have no idea what Supreme even is, but I assume it's some sort of skateboarding brand, which I have zero interest in.

The comparison makes no sense in regards to Amiibo's selling out in minutes months before they release. If I want to buy a blu-ray or a game on release day, I can typically walk into the store and buy it without any problems because they aren't limited edition items and the stores are shipped plenty of product. I get everyone's point and I am glad that some people are able to take time out of their College schedules and work schedules to make sure they obtain these things, but they have never been a top priority for me as a collector. My complaint is that they shouldn't be this difficult to get a hold of us. If it's marketed as a limited edition product it would be understandable, but these figures have not been marketed that way aside from the Gold Mario, which I never had any interest in anyway.

Agreed 100%. If Nintendo wanted to make all of them except Mario and Zelda characters extremely limited, they should have marketed them that way

Agreed, though I still don't see why some figurine that's barely a step above a happy meal toy needs to be limited at all.

w/e as long as I get my Ganondorf.

No worries on that one. Zelda Amiibos will never be hard to find because that's pretty much the only series Nintendo seems to think matters anymore so they want to flood the market with "the ones that we're worried will sell out"...

That's another problem with Nintendo. Why don't they make Metroid or Donkey Kong games anymore? The last Metroid game directly developed by Nintendo was Fusion... Thirteen years ago. Aside from that, Nintendo made one of their subsidiaries do all the work with Metroid (and the new Donkey Kong games) because Nintendo themselves couldn't be bothered to be pulled away from Mario and Zelda for 4 seconds

Yeah that's what others here have said, and yet I've only seen Sheik in the wild once and only a few Toon Links here or there. Then again that's more than most amiibo's lol, I have never laid eyes on like half of them. It'd be nice to get a Charizard or Pacman for the nostalgia, or a Captain Falcon because I struggle against a good CF player, but w/e.

To be fair I can't think of a GOOD Donkey Kong game Nintendo made themselves since the original arcade games. And while Fusion was great, Metroid Prime Trilogy easily ranks among my favorite games of all time (and I adored the first 2 games in Rare's DK trilogy too) so I can't complain about any of that. If somebody can do it better than Nintendo then I'm happy that they are willing to sub it out, all I care about is whether the game is good or not and it's hard to question the classic DK's or any Metroid outside of MOM.

So, is there a solid release date for Wave 4?

Not sure why I'm even asking... since it's probably a weekday. And I probably don't have a chance at any of them unless I line up.

Oh and yet again stop derailing. I dont know how many times you guys need to be warned to stop.

No shit genius. That's why I referred to Retro as Nintendo's subsidiary

noun
noun: subsidiary; plural noun: subsidiaries
1.
a company controlled by a holding company.
synonyms:

subordinate company, branch, branch plant, division, subdivision, derivative, subset, offshoot

"two major subsidiaries"

If you are like me and have no interest in the Fire Emblem characters you can HOPEFULLY get them online. If stores are getting 6 each of Charizard and Pacman like I am hearing and like that link on Amiibo News stated then hopefully Best Buy's system will let you reserve via store pickup that day. Then again if there are people waiting at the door who knows?

Amiibo's in general are dying. I have lost a great deal of interest due to being unable to get any of the figures due the pre-orders selling out in a mater of minutes and the stupid retail exclusives like Ness and Meta Knight, two of the characters I wanted more than any. I've managed to luck out on several occasions and find a few I was looking for like Mega Man and Little Mac, but the majority of characters I want all seem to be in short supply and go for ridiculous amounts of money on the after market.
Yeah, most people are probably in the same boat as that -- though obviously some (like myself) have luckily been able to SOMEHOW get most of the ones we wanted.

I know its just wishful thinking, but hopefully NOA's statement about them increasing stock levels and reprinting figures is true. Don't care as much about the value sinking as making it easier to open up the "rares". Nintendo doesn't usually just say things though -- that's why it took so many months just to get an actual statement about the fact that there was even a problem. So even though they like to kill their NOA fans (versus UK and EU and JP), hopefully they'll follow through with their statements.

Totally agree. While I understand Nintendo's investment in Mario and Zelda because they sell, are resources really so scarce that some team can't develop a decent Metroid title on the side? The recent Mario games haven't even been anything groundbreaking. Even though they'd never let it happen, I wouldn't care if Big N dropped Mario platformers all together. I haven't bought a Mario game for myself/for its own sake since Super Mario 64. They're not worth the cash imo.

Man, when BB or Target get exclusives it's so hard for me to get them.
As long as it isn't TRU. There are too few locations and too many people on the hunt. Only 10 Greninja but 20 people per location--just to place a preorder! That's not to say that BB won't be super limited in stock as well. But it sounds like Target is going to be the easiest so far.

Most people would love a couple decent brand name Metroidvania games. Make a new Super Metroid or Castlevania: Symphony of the Night type game with sweet 2D HD graphics and sell it at $29.99 to $39.99.  Tons of profit to be had there.  Get a good music composer and you're set.  It would have universal acclaim.  Nintendo could sell a whole new line of Metroid amiibos that people would die to have.  Can you imagine the potential for a small line of say 8-12 Metroid amiibos like Kraid, Ridley, Samus w/different blasters and suits, Space Pirates, Mother Brain, baby metroids.

No idea how all these people are sitting in board meetings and can't see the obvious cash cow for an HD console.  The indies are doing it successfully with games like Axiom Verge.

That sounds horrible on so many levels. I wouldn't pay a cent over $20 for a 2D Metroid game on a console unless it was a huge game that actually made use of the WiiU's features.... and that's assuming it had a 10 on Metacritic. I know it's been said to death but 2D games are infinitely easier to code and there's plenty of indie games that can scratch that itch just as well as anything Nintendo has done in this century. As much as I love the franchise and even the mythology (such that it is) behind Metroid, $30 is asking way too much for something similar in scope to an HD Super Metroid. So a 2D Metroid game would need to be priced accordingly, otherwise I'll just go back to my PC.

And tacking on amiibo sounds even worse assuming you are proposing they use it like Splatoon (where you buy the amiibos to unlock Day 1 DLC). I don't mind amiibos so much in SSB cause they are interactive and save unique data, but I have a hard time imagining how amiibos would add anything for a 2D Metroid game. I mean by all means release the figurines for the game, but don't lock DLC/missions/skins/ect behind them, just release the figurines for their own sake.

Besides, with how shitty the amiibo releases have been in terms of availability, can you imagine how much it would suck to not be able to access that content? I mean look at the demand for the Toad amiibo.... and that just unlocked some hide and seek extras in what was, to be frank, a subpar Mario spinoff.

Please stop derailing the thread and arguing.  This is your only warning.  I have no problems banning people next time.

Had a conversation with someone the other day about this very same thing -- like I honestly can't fathom what Nintendo execs know that I do not know because its just not possible that a Metroid game right now wouldn't destroy previous sales records. The hype for Metroid is so big and its a shame that the only Samus we get is from old VC games or in Smash.

Personally I wouldn't want a bunch of different Samus amiibo, but one of her with her suit, another without, and then metroids, Ridley, kraid, etc. etc. would be pretty awesome for sure!

When you notice the date listed for Dark Pit, it suggests that he, not Palutena, is going to be a store exclusive (more specifically, Best Buy).
They're expecting Palutena to be an exclusive too since she is not listed at Best Buy. This suggest that another store most likely would get her as an exclusive since Best Buy is not listing her with Dark Pitt.

I have a target with the electronics counter right in side the door. CD/DVD the Cameras then videogames.
The only Target in STL that has that setup is in Chesterfield. Every other one has them in the back.

If they don't have some sort of escort or ticket system you better believe I'm running for Lucina & Robin.

If I don't get one preordered or at Meijer/Walmart early, you bet your ass anyone in my way is getting bodychecked into a shelf/display...

I'm guessing you filled out one of them surveys and put down you had a bad experience with the preorders?
It was due to a survey i filled out, but due to a different store issue. I figured while I had someone on the phone, I'd also bring up that issue and see what they could do. Rep told me several times she could make the order, but there was no guarantee I'd get them on release. so, just a waiting game

If that's the case. I know I can out run the neck-beards, I've seen waiting at the lines at the previous Amiibo events and by a long-shot too, lol.

Be careful, I heard if you are caught running in the store they hog tie you and carry you out on a pole.

At my store we use all those unsold Bowser amiibos instead...

(The record currently stands at 3)
Only three!? 8 pits is what the normal human can fit. Bowser should be at least 5. Kirby is the fun one, you can get like 15 of those bad boys up there.

Tip use some kind of oil

My packages came from Game. I got:

Saturday:
Pac-Man

Monday:
Charizard
Ness
Lucina
Wario

Tuesday:
Robin

I had five of these in one order, yet each came in their own box.

Now, I need to get Greninja and Jigglypuff.

Of course, upon re-looking at the list, there's a lot of things that make me suspicious about this list. Among them:

-No listing for the PS4 version of The Witcher: Wild Hunt Collector's Edition;

-No listing for Splatoon as a game;

-The 6/2 listing for the Collector's Edition of Arkham Knight (not to mention the SKU is actually for the Collector's Edition of the strategy guide, which is not slated to come out until the game itself comes out);

-The fact that the dates are listed 2018 instead of 2015.

ANNOUNCED AMIIBO RESTOCK REPORT (EU, JP, and NA):

WAVE 1:
Marth: Japanese reprints have been released. European and North American restocks are confirmed but specific dates are not set. NA restock will be in May.

Villager: Japanese reprints have been released. European restocks are confirmed but dates are not set.

WAVE 2:

Captain Falcon: Japanese reprints have been released. European restocks are confirmed but dates are not set.

Little Mac: Japanese reprints have been released. European restocks are confirmed but dates are not set.

WAVE 3:

Rosalina: No word on SSB version reprints. Leaks from Mario Party 10 suggest an imminent Super Mario Series (SMS) Rosalina amiibo.

Meta Knight: Restocks have been confirmed for Europe. The North American CPSIA page has been updated for one extra month.

Shulk: Gamestop allowed new preorders for nearly an hour on February 12th, 2015 for both online and web-in-store purchase with a release date of May 1st. Multiple reports of Gamstop customer service suggest that shipments may occur in July or August, but store employees are out of the loop largely. The CPSIA page for Shulk was updated to include an April 2015 production run on May 1st. None of this necessarily means that Shulk amiibo will be available at retail at re-release.

Ike: No official word on a NA restock. The CPSIA page for Ike was updated on April 10th, 2015 to include one extra month of Ike production. Unfulfilled orders at Gamestop are rumored to be shipped in June or July.

King Dedede: No official word on a NA restock. Unfulfilled orders at Gamestop are rumored to be shipped in June or July.

Sonic: is still not rare... but the CPSIA page gained a month recently

WAVE 4:

hahahahah gl

Went to FedEx tonight and got those floor designs printed, they turned out decent. I don't think FedEx has very good print quality but this will do for now.

I look at Rosalina, Lucario, DDD etc, and I just wonder why I have them lol.

If I can get a Marth reprint, and stumble upon a NA Villager/WFT I'll keep then all for a complete set.

If I can't get a complete wave 4/5 set I'm probably going to sell the one's I dont really want. Villager, Ike, lucario, SMB series excluding toad and gold Mario, Wii fit trainer and a few others.
