Yep. I've had similar bad luck with BB. They shipped me a villager that arrived in its own box, but the backing card was bent in half and the bubble was pushed in badly. I also received a couple others in the first batch that were partially opened and had damaged cards. Luckily those were all the basic figures like Mario and Kirby, so they were easy to exchange in store, but I won't be buying more on-line and will just take my chances in store going forward.

 
Yikes I ordered 4 Wave 2 figures from BB last night, hope they aren't messed up when they arrive.

Some .com orders ship from store and if they do those figures fit almost perfectly in the smallest box. At the least it should only be bent up a little.
 
Stupid Lucario taunting me showing it's available again.  Had it in my cart again and when I got to the end it removed it and now it just fails to add to cart.

 
I ordered a Lucario and a Bowser this morning from TRU, so I can confirm that they at least had them.  That completes my wave 3 pre-orders, other than Rosalina & Luma.

 
I pre-ordered Little Mac, Pit, Lucario, Sheik, Mega Man, and Ike from TRU. Shulk from GS. Captain Falcon from Target. I figured those are the most likely to be short-stocked, so I decided to go ahead and get in on them while they were available.

 
I just ordered Meta Knight from BBY just in case since I keep missing out on deals by minutes.  Pre-ordered Shulk from GS too since I do think them pulling some shenanigans isn't unlikely.

I just did the same, put in preorders for both Shulk and Metaknight, as well as an order for Little Mac, Pitt, and Captain Falcon (because I could see these being the single shipment figures from wave 2). I'm not taking any chances on these things at this point.

Thanks for the tip! I can confirm that Fred Meyer is stocking Zelda, Little Mac and Diddy Kong. This leads me to believe that those three will not be limited issues as Fred Meyer did not stock a single Wii Fit Trainer, Marth, or Villager in the original waves.

Diddy Kong is already sold out at Best Buy which is an early sign that he will be shortpacked. If I remember correctly, the three that were discontinued from the first wave sold out during pre-order at a few retailers. Pre-orders are a good guage for how much stock people will get of each character.

 
Couldn't people just pre-order Lucario in-store instead? Avoids the hassle of having to check the web page constantly to see if it's back in-stock.

Fred Meyer is a small NW retailer. Going off assumptions but if they place an order with Nintendo for amiibos I would expect them to want to "reorder" so they've picked items that are available for replenishment. No one knows which ones will be one and done but again, Fred Meyer didn't stock the original 3 limited run amiibos. Take that for what it is, rumor and speculation :)

Well they're only small in that they're a regional arm of the biggest grocery chain in the US that's not Walmart. Wish Kroger carried stuff like this around here. Then I could really be flipping with food stamps!

This is problematic because Captain Falcon is one of the ones I would actually want to use and cruel Nintendo made it so they don't work in the package. :wall:

Why would they? This ambiguity is driving sales of the existing and upcoming figures purely out of speculation. They don't really have any reason to, especially if they aren't discontinued.

Didn't even think about that. Heh I just wanted the Villager because of he was a cute figure. Marth though!

Missed out on Lucario. Did Shulk for in store pickup but i feel that I should probably just go get him in person since I don't trust Gamestop in store pickup.

 
Nintendo is just trying to drive up demand for future waves. They want to ensure that we will all pre-order upcoming figures. I think this whole affair is pretty shady and it somewhat hurts my appreciation for the Amiibo line. Nintendo knows exactly what they're doing.

Really wish I could have scored the Villager. He's my favorite from the first wave.

Yeah, that's the feeling they have given. But, it's being reported that they aren't discontinued just yet based on a response from Nintendo. I think in general you can probably guess which ones will serve a greater purpose beyond Smash Bros. We already have an Animal Crossing for the 3DS, so I wouldn't hold out hope for an update to add support in a 1.5 year old game or a new game since they usually only do one of those per console. At best the Villager might unlock something in May in Mario Kart 8 with the update including Animal Crossing character selections. Marth and Wii Fit Trainer probably won't get anything else.

I decided to get one each for my kids to try out the functionality in Smash, and selected ones based on what I felt most likely to see future use - Mario and Link.

Normally I would agree with you, however this is a common tactic used by toy makers. Especially when they target adult collectors. They're just manipulating the after market to drive up demand.

In the ebay link above it shows that Wii Fit trainer is available at the Simi Valley Town Center. At BB webpage it shows out of stock at the same place. Who knows.

I just called them and they're out of stock as well. Even told the associate about the ebay page and still nothing.

EDIT: Just went through check out for the heck of it... and it's not available.

Wii Fit Trainer is the last to really climb on Amazon.  Price is still in the thirties.  Anyone interested might want to go on and grab one of them.  Villager and Marth are $70 and $90 respectably from highly-rated US sellers.  But what do I know, I grabbed an extra of Marth and Villager and sold them each for about $30.  :(

Thanks for making me paranoid. I thought he was in wave three for a minute so I rushed to put in my order but I already had him in my wave two order and should be all set, phwew.

 
Found Wii Fit Trainer on Target's site (can't post the link due to my post count - sorry) and called up a few places near me that listed it as "in stock", but alas it wasn't or no one in Electronics wanted to pick up. Completely thinking about ordering these guys from Japan now...

I may order from Japan now, but does anyone know if the markings on the bottom of the base of the amiibos are the same as US? Obviously the box art is in Japanese.

ok so I am going in today to pick up star fox amiibo now do I pre order ike or shulk I feel like every one is anticipating shulk to be rare which in turn while make it not rare

The bottom is different than the Americas. It has different code, but it is compatible with the Americas.

 
Id say that Marth, Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer aren't rare until Sunday.  

Sunday is when Wave 2 is shipped and stocked (along with some restock of wave one) and if there is no restock of the "rare" ones, I would then deem them rare. 

Thankfully I got my WFT and Villager :D

Wii Fit Trainer, Marth, and Villager are rare (that's how I'd call it). From what I've run into, these three seemed to have a small print run, so much so that some stores never received them (one Walmart nearby had the stock/price tag, but never received a single Villager amiibo) or only received a few due to preorders (like GameStop). EDIT: And my local Best Buy is showing all three as having zero units in their warehouse. Stores that have high volume/traffic probably got more than a handful and now that that shipment has sold out (for the most part) and Nintendo has said they're not going to reprint (according to Wired.com) which means they'll be going buh-bye for now (unless there's going to be a limited edition Animal Crossing Wii U game bundle with a reprint of the figure - that would be smart at this rate Nintendo).

Honestly, if you want any of them and can afford to buy them, get your favorites now while they're gone. Luckily these three are still available on other import sites.
