So I just read that Futureshop in Canada is getting a steelbook version of Iron Man

I hope it's possible to order that online for the US
That's cool, I'd be willing to buy it.
Yeah.. DD = no thanks.. I was really looking forward to it too.. at lot of warner releases as of late have been standard dolby digital (Bucket list, Fools gold).. no idea why though.

Potential double dip?
Ive now watched the entire season on BD. The DD5.1 is nice...but the show is really dialog heavy so their may not be much of a reason for a TrueHD track. I barley noticed anything coming out of my rear speakers besides the odd bird chirping or phone ringing.

If this was Lost with a DD track I'd be REALLY pissed...but here not so much, but still a shame.

PQ however is VERY nice, much better then any other WB on HDM TV show yet...until Pushing Daisies

Yeah.. but it needed the hi-def audio track for me to buy it.. I rarely buy anything that's dolby digital. Its a slap in the face gizmo lol. Why put it on blu ray without a hi def audio track :(

I dunno, I may just rent it and not buy it. I really want to see the series, but DD just hurts me :(
Turns out the Band of Brothers msrp is $100
Hopefully Warner adds it to their site for preorder before that 25% coupon runs out. $75 for BoB in HD is an easy first-day purchase.

That's really a great price (unbelievable in fact), I almost paid more for the HD-DVD import.
In for one!

Credit archibishopthedoge with a seriously awesome find! 1000 internets to you.
wonder if i should sell my dvd version now
Your best bet is Ebay. I had one of those import versions as well before I finally got the regular DVD retail version. I still have the import lol no one wanted it.

But yea, all you guys with the regular, get rid of it ASAP. I got rid of mine when I got my PS3 as blu-ray just took over my movie buying soul and I had watched it about 2 weeks prior to that.

This and Godfather make my year movie wise. Matrix Im slightly excited about as well, but the 2 sequels are so weak in comparison to the first (IMO) that its hard for me to get pumped about.

Anyone know if its worth buying the starship trooper trilogy or any of them really in blu ray? I'm debating on just buying the first since I liked that one and betting the rest on SD dvd. What do you guys think?

Well.....................

Lucky Number Slevin 11/18

And according to somebody that works for universal over at the High Def Digest forums;

Casino, American Gangster, and Eastern Promises are all scheduled to release 10/14 right now. So maybe there will be a 3 pack of those like the Halloween or action pack.
Old news dude.
*shrugs*

I didn't know. I knew Iron Man and Hulk were being released next month, but not The Incredible Hulk.

Anyone have a link?

Damn, September is Comic Book month...Hulk, Incredible Hulk, Daredevil, Iron Man...also wouldn't be surprised to see Wanted around that time.

Daredevil :whee:

Amazon seems to have posted the cover art for Iron Man

Here's all the disc details from HighDefDigest

Confirming the rumors, Paramount has officially announced 'Iron Man' for Blu-ray release this September, as a two-disc special edition with hours of HD bonus features.

Ending weeks of speculation, Paramount has finally confirmed a September 30 Blu-ray touchdown for the Robert Downey Jr. blockbuster, which grossed over $300 million at the domestic box office this summer. Due day-and-date with the standard DVD, the Blu-ray will come as a two-disc set with extensive bonus features and BD-Live content.

Tech specs for the main feature include a BD-50 dual-layer presentation with 1080p video and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio.

Extras will be consistent between the Blu-ray and the DVD (with the Blu-ray content in full 1080 HD). Disc one will include the six-part documentary "Hall of Armor: The Invincible Iron Man" ("Origins," "Friends & Foes," "The Definitive Iron Man," "Demon in a Bottle," "Extremis and Beyond," "Ultimate Iron Man"), plus deleted and extended scenes.

Disc two includes an additional seven-part documentary "I Am Iron Man" ("The Journey Begins," "The Suit that makes the Iron Man," "The Walk of Destruction," "Grounded In Reality," "Beneath the Armor," "It's All in the Details," "A Good Story, Well Told"), the "Wired: The Visual Effects of Iron Man" featurette, a Robert Downey Jr. screen test, "The Actor's Process" rehearsal footage, a short film by The Onion ("Wildly Popular Iron Man Trailer to be Adapted into Full Length Film"), still galleries, and the original theatrical trailer.

Exclusive to the Blu-ray release will be BD-Live functionality (Profile 2.0 required) on disc one, including the "Iron Man IQ" interactive feature.

As previously announced, Paramount has set the suggested retail price at $39.98 for the Blu-ray.

For those interested

Just got my Universal "Action Start Pack" today on Blu-ray from Universal. For those that like the Special Features, well, I don't know if Universal plans on bringing all of them back for Blu-ray.

U571 is missing several special features (Spotlight on Location, Inside Enigma, U.S. Naval Archives, Creating and Constructing U-571, Submarines Experience and Britain Captures the U-110. Its been replaced with U-Control which may or may not include all the features (Profile 1.0 owners are screwed as they won't play). 25GB Disc

Miami Vice appears to have all special features intact. Maybe additional special features? 50GB disc.

End of Days is missing the Spotlight on Location, Special Effects, Book of Revelation, Soundtrack Presentation and Trailer. No U-Control but a "My Scenes" selection. 25GB Disc.

I am just going off what the back cases list and what my press sheet shows. I have yet to put the discs in my player...but I can only assume what is listed on the back of the cases is accurate.

That Iron Man cover is awesome, just hope its metallic/shiny.
that's a lot of stuff, but $40 is still too much for a movie.
That's just the MSRP...Amazon currently has it up for pre-order at $27.95 which for a 2-disc is pretty good!

What version of the movie does it have? Theatrical, Director's or both?

i'd still rather just have the movie for 17-20 bucks. i'd only ever watch the other stuff once
What version of the movie does it have? Theatrical, Director's or both?
"Unrated Directors Cut" is the only one listed. Once again, Universal screwed up

I'll be keeping my HD DVD for all of the 3 new releases. Each one is missing special features!

Kill Bill in a month :whee:

Just wish it was the Whole Bloody Affair, but as usual, the Weinsteins aren't doing anything about it

I love the sticker that they put on this one. Come watch Daredevil because Jon Farveau, who directed Iron Man, plays a character in this movie. Therefore, if you liked Iron Man, you'll also like Daredevil! I'm not trashing the movie, just think studios have a strange marketing scheme sometimes.

Also, for anyone interested in getting Iron Man Blu Ray for cheap, it's part of Moviestop's Trade 4 Get 1/2 off Blu-Ray. Basically, trade in 4 movies and get Iron Man on BR for 1/2 off. Normally this comes out to about 11 bucks or so. Not sure if this will be more or not, but at least it's better than $25 or $30.
You should see the Dawn of the Dead (04) cover.

"FROM THE DIRECTOR OF 300" plastered on it. Ugh.
$10 says that it's not a removable sticker but actually printed onto the cover, what bullshit.

Universal has really been disappointing me when it comes to Blu-Ray. There's no reason why they should be releasing crap on SL 25GB disc and why they should be excluding the theatrical versions.

Which is exactly why I am keeping all my HD DVDs and selling the Blu-ray versions after I'm done with them. Why keep Miami Vice for questionable improvements in sounds if its missing the Theatrical Cut? Or End of Days with all the special features stripped? Bleh.

Well, to be fair, the theatrical cut was only on the DVD side of the HD-DVD.

Still, the fact they are half assing it and removing extras, only including the director's cuts and are trying to squeeze everything on a SL 25GB :whistle2:#

Oh, I know that. No reason why branching could not have been done with an extra 20GB that the BD50's hold. Still, the HD DVD is identical except for it having a DD+ track and the BD have the DTS MA. For me, that's not a biggie.

If they're making half-assed transitions to BR, then I'm with you in keeping the HD-DVD versions.

From the review I read of Beowulf in BR over the HD-DVD version, it looks like PQ is the same between the two, the audio goes from DD+ to TrueHD, and there's some extras on the disc, most likely because they have 20GB more to fill:

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/1229/beowulf2007.html

Can't imagine I'm in a rush to swap my HD-DVD version for the BR version.

I can't imagine it would be much more expensive to master a DL disc than a SL disc, and at the quantities movie studios are buying media at, it has to be insignificant.

Only thing reason I can think of (besides them just being cheap asses) is if Universal isn't getting the normal subsidies on DL-BRs like every other company as punishment for being the hold out during the format war.

I'll go ahead and say it, DD was utter crap. (Sorry, LP, it had to be said.)

I did the deal for Iron Man BR about a month ago. Absolutely worth it.

So far I have received every Universal Blu-ray disc made (expecting Heroes 1 and 2 very soon...can't wait!). So far, I have only kept Mummy 1 and 2 for the sole reason because Mummy 3 will be coming out and its odd to have 1 and 2 on HD DVD and 3 on Blu-ray. Everything else...I sold and kept my HD DVD version. Going from a DD+ track to DTS MA is not enough for me to sell my HD DVD version for $5 when I can dump the BD for $16 or so. Plus I have close to a dozen HD DVD players in my house, parents and in-laws house so they like to borrow movies from me.

Beowulf is a Paramount title. I have that one also and the improvements are sound only. The extra 'special features' are pretty much crap anyway and amount to nothing. I'm content with my 2 Disc HD DVD. The new extras are not because of space (because 2 HD DVDs equal 60GB vs the 1 BD at 50GB)...they are just that, extra. Probably to entice people who bought the Red to pick up the Blu as well. Same can be said about Top Gun (which I also received and compared).

Universal is simply not getting enough BD50's. Warner seems to be able to get all the BD50's they want though...wonder why :whistle2:# . Terminator: Sarah Chronicles for example is 3 BD50 discs with DD5.1 tracks. The amount of space used on each disc is 27GB...which could have been compressed just a tad more and fit on 25GB with out any issue or put all the extras on an additional BD25 disc and made it a 4 disc set.

FYI,
The rumor going around is that Sony, Disney, Lionsgate, Fox and Warner bought up most of the BD50's for the next year. Universal and Paramount only get them for "important" titles while the other studios can waste them on anything they want. You'd be shocked at the amount of crap titles studios put out on a 50GB disc and they are simply the movie, TrueHD track, and a handful of SD extras. Most of the time they don't amount to fill a 25GB disc.
