dunno if its been mentioned but

next week at best buy

buy saw 4 (29.99) get good luck chuck, war, or 3:10 to yuma for $15, all blu ray

decent deal
Getting 3:10 to Yuma for 15.00 is awesome...paying 30.00 for Saw 4? Not so awesome.

I think the DBZ Broly Blu-Ray just killed my PS3. It was playing fine for about 5 minutes, then it froze up, sent me back to the XMB with an error, and now it wont play any discs at all (BR,DVD, or PS2/PS3 games)

Did you turn it off while it was loading?

Nope, like i said, it was playing and it froze for about 20 seconds then sent me back to the XMB with an error. I think i heard a faint grinding noise as well. Basically all that happens now is that the blu light is there to show that there is a disc in the console, and in the upper right corner, the loading icon is moving, but it doesnt stop.

I've tried unplugging and re-plugging everything (other than the harddrive), setting it on its side (i have had it vertical since i got it, with no problems). Right now it is shut off completely.

I just did a search on yahoo and found quite a number of hits with the exact same problem. Looks like I gotta call Sony to get a replacement...

Has anyone had trouble playing Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on their PS3? Whenever I pop in the disc, the drive would make these weird sounds and it would take about 3 or 4 minutes to load. Out of the 4 times I've used the disc, twice it would actually play, and the other two times it would just say something like "this video cannot be played". This is the only blu-ray movie I've had problems with so far. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Are you trying to play the one from the boxset? Because most likely if it wont play, its because its an HD-DVD (look at the front of the disc).

The copy I have is the non-boxset version, got it during the B1G1 sale at Amazon, and it does say Blu-ray disc on it.

I do have a question for you guys with HDMI do you guys have your RGB setting on limited or full?

I was watching the first Die Hard the other night and I thought that the picture was really dark and the color was really saturated so I had changed the setting from full to limited and it was improved, I had calibrated the picture and this was the second movie I had watch on Blu-Ray the other being Sunshine(Ithought that was really dark too) but game look good though.

Do you you guys have any tips or ideas?

On a properly calibrated set, changing between limited and full does nothing to the picture.

RGB Full is meant for PC display devices with a different color spec, it helps improve color on them, but for uncalibrated TVs, it just over saturates the colors and makes the screen too dark.

That being said, it's not supposed to looked washed out either.
Everyone should get a calibration disc when they buy an HDTV.
Colors should be rich, but never oversaturated.

On my set, the pic looked okay, and when I turned on FULL it made the colors richer and blacks deeper, that can fool you into thinking it's better. It's actually crushing blacks and over saturating.

I calibrated the set on LIMITED and superwhite ON, and got the same richness in color and darker blacks but with no clipping.
Switching between full and limited does nothing to my screen now.
Output should always be Y Pb\ Cb Pr\ Cr and not RGB.

Just to let you know, the die hard's (except for live free) look like shit.

Ask anyone, the picture blows, its not the best thing to set the RGB settings too.

Pop in an animated movie, Ratatouille, Cars, Open Season, etc, then try both settings to see what you feel looks better.

Sunshine was hella bright.. I think some of your settings might be a bit off
Anyone pick up The Rock or Con Air? How's the PQ?
Conair - Stunning pq and aq.. im used to the movie on dvd, DEFINITE improvement for 18 bucks at walmart.

The Rock - Bought it, havent popped it in yet.. Been too busy with college. But from what friends told me who have it, they said it looks great.
Anyone pick up The Rock or Con Air? How's the PQ?
Watched The Rock last night. There are about 3-4 scenes that are really grainy and look like crap but the rest of the movie is really good.

When watching Sunshine,I ment some of the detail was lost in a couple of scenes mainly outside shots of the ship

Just wondering, but what audio do you guys use when watching Blu Rays?

Dolby TrueHD 5.1 or PCM 5.1 Uncompressed?

I just use the speakers from my tv and for me, uncompressed sounds better. I noticed that with TrueHD, when they the characters are talking and then they have a huge explosion or something similar, the next time a character talks it's really low and hard to hear. Uncompressed for me seems to do a better job with this.

I use NEO : 6 , which is dts master hd audio. It depends on what your receiver can handle.

Some movies are generally low, even for me. It just depends on the movie.

And DTS-HD MA tracks don't even work on PS3.

I'm assuming you have an HDMI 1.1 or greater receiver right?

I usually use the PCM track over TrueHD.
(they are pretty much identical though)

I dont use my ps3 for blu ray movies, unless the my player cant read them, I have the dual combo hd/blu ray player :)

There is an option called neo:6. Its the listening mode that supports dts master hd audio.

That's not what Neo6 does.
Neo6 is just DTS's equivalent of PL-IIx. It's for converting stereo souces to surround.

You have the Onkyo receiver right?
You shouldn't even be using a listening mode. It should show up as straight DTS-HD MA on the receiver.

Most BD titles are either TrueHD or PCM (or both). He was wondering which of those two you choose to playback.

There's only one title I can think of that has both the DTS-HD MA and the TrueHD track together. (close encounters)

Seriously. What have we been waiting for?
Seriously. What have we been waiting for?
Personally, I'm waiting for "Enchanted," so the topic title just threw me all kinds of the hell off.

Here's my reply from another thread about audio issues with the PS3.

In your PS3 BD/DVD settings, you can set the audio output to bitstream, or linear PCM.

If you are using optical audio, you want to use bitstream.
If you are using HDMI and your receiver supports it, you want to use linear PCM.

With bitstream, your receiver decodes all dts/dolby, etc tracks. With lpcm, your PS3 does all the work, sends that to your receiver, then your reciever produces a "true" HD sound.

If you connect HDMI to your receiver (if you can support that), then the PS3 will automatically list all formats that your receiver can handle. For example, when I hooked up the PS3 to my receiver (Denon 3808ci), it lit up every audio option available that the PS3 can produce.

If your receiver cannot support certain formats, then you will hear a stereo sound (and sometimes no sound at all).

I have a hard time believing your TV alone supports uncompressed audio. If your device doesn't support a source, it will play in Stereo, which is why uncompressed sounds better to you. You are getting a stereo only (L/R) sound (and only partial sound in TrueHD)...

For the record, I use linear PCM, uncompressed, 7.1 when available.
oh god, I gotta refer pinoy to this thread..

Saw 4! Of course.
Saw movies are shit. I can sum them up and I haven't seen one past 2. Here we go.

We're men, we're men in tight *tight* tightes!

Saw my leg off.

Dead man is alive.

I am a self righteous cancer patient that thinks he should show people they suck at life.

I'ma put you in a house and kill you.

My number goes in pocket!

Lets kill more people.

Saw 4, I'm Tu Pac, but I am really dead.

Saw my head.

Lets make another to cash in on gore and no substance.

These movies are hardly what I am waiting for. I wish I never watch those dumb movies. Even though the Matrix isn't a great series, it is what I am waiting for. Way more than Saw. Seriously, why do people like this shit?

For the Record, I have watched Die Hard 1 and 3. For 1 being as old as it is and they way it was filmed it looks good enough and an upgrade over DVD. And Die Hard 3 looks great. Don't know what you are talking about. The color reproduction is phenomonal as well as the detail, not to mention the sound quality which is also top notch for a 13 year old movie.

How dare you.. go back to your Smallville.. or your Star wars..
How dare you.. go back to your Smallville.. or your Star wars..
Well, not everyone likes the Saw movies, number of sequels notwithstanding.

Saw 4 didnt do as well financially as the other 3... if we are lucky there will wont be another 4... it was interesting for part of the first movie

Saw 5's already being made for Halloween 08. The first moviewas amazing and they could've stopped the series right there. But of course when they saw all that cash flowing in, they thought it'd be a good idea to keep running with it.

I'm sure soon enough it'll end up like "The Land Before Time" where TLBT 6-20 were straight to dvd releases. (and yes i know its a kids movie so its not exactly the same thing; i just couldnt think of another movie that comes out yearly to compare with)
How dare you.. go back to your Smallville.. or your Star wars..
You're not actually implying that Saw is better than Star Wars are you?
How dare you.. go back to your Smallville.. or your Star wars..
ha, i was just going through smallville s5 on hd dvd and there's one episode that is such a blatant rip off of saw with clark's mom and lionel
So should I stay away from the DBZ movie?

I saw that someone had problems, and it worries me.
Well the fact that it's a DBZ should be the real reason you stay away...
