Kuma: This is probably my favorite thread of all the many forums I visit. The guys hear are all a good bunch. :)

I think I've attained a new level of geekdom, because I even said outloud as I was on the way home... "wait til' I post on CAG about this" ... lol.

It's all good, not hear to bust on anyone. Just share my daily geeky adventures with some good peeps.
OMG pick up of the year for me.

I got a Sega Astro City 29 arcade cabinet.(sit down Japanese cabinet for those of you not familiar with it.)

GUESS HOW MUCH.

I'll post pics when I get my camera back.

$23 bucks btw.

that's quite possibly the best find I've seen on these forums...nah, it IS the best find. Enjoy!

Embrace your geekdom-- its got you for life. me too-- yesterday I was talking about getting rid of a good chunk of my collection, today I'm geeking out over a gamecube I got for $5 at a garage sale!
Just got Neowave thanks to my backwards little town getting a real damn game store by the name of Re-Play games. Less 30 and 50 mile treks to Gamestop and EB for me. Thank God.

Good job on that. Neowave is awesome and I personally prefer it to KOF 2002... though I suppose there's quite a few who will disagree with me on that. Anyway, the only things I dislike about Neowave would be the fact that it's not much more than an upgraded 2K2 and that it came out mere months before KOF XI comes out in Japan... so I'm going to have to spend more money on SNK fighters pretty soon.

MarkMan, amazing find. As for Neowave, I always have a problem finding a good fight online with someone decent. Other than that great game. It is only an urgrade but it's only $20. I prefer 2002 to this though.

I sill haven't got Neowave yet. Everytime I go into an EB or Gamestop I look for it, but I've yet to see one yet. Maybe it's time to bite the bullet and just buy one off eBay.

That's gonna be a rare game, I wounder if it'll be worth anything down the road. Proabably not.
Damn, I'm supposed to be in San Jose in Northern California right now.

I'm not doing a good job of scheduling. -_-
Hahah, good luck in the tournament

What was interesting is that Best Buy finally got the game. I was there yesterday and couldn't believe that they actually had it. But yeah, the game's probably going to be rare at some point considering that there likely weren't many copies printed.

I was shocked when I saw it at Re-Play this morning. I wasn't sure I was going to buy anything until I saw it.

If you want' I'll keep my eyes out for any stores that may have copies. I've seen the display boxes before the release in a few stores, but have yet to see any real copies.

Overall it's a decent game, but maybe I feel that way because everything post KoF '98 feels watered down since 98 was so good...

Wasn't SNK doing a remake of 98? I hope so... the sound and the white screen flashing really made it a great game.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll look around at Best Buy this coming week. I need start practicing in KOF and gear up for some online play (if it's still possibale to find matches.) I've been playing alot of SF 3rd Strike and my Necro can take down some unsespecting rank A players. I seem to be really effective aganist the shoto-bros for some reason. But I lose about 60% of the time.

WAY OFF TOPIC - Anyone wanting to trade for my Jaws Unleashed (X-Box) I beat it a couple days ago and haven't picked it up since, and probably won't ever again. PM me if intrested.
looks like GS/EB had leftover hats from KoF MI pre-orders.
They'll probably be giving them away with KOF 2006 as well... I doubt Neowave has sold more than 20 copies due to the deadness of the Xbox, the niche factor, and the hard to find factor.

Any KOF game that comes out in the near future will have that preorder bonus. It was for KOF MI, then KOF MI Maniax for Xbox, and now Neowave. I gurantee it will be a bonus for 2006.

Speaking of preorder bonuses, is XI supposed to get any bonus shit in Japan? I'm not expecting a joystick or anything, but it'd be nice to get something.

I got like 6 of those hats. They're actually very ugly hats, IMO. If I put it on, I'd look like some red-neck trucker.

Anyone want one for like $5?
I'll take it for free. I wanna wear one of these and flick somebody off and yell "Hey, COME ON COME ON." Then I can die happily.
I'll keep it in mind. If I ever do a trade with you I'll throw one in. Just the other day I was wearing one and said to my boss "Are you okay? Buster WOOOOOOOLF!" Then I got fired.

I'm kidding, I didn't do that.

Sadly we'll never see these in America, on the PS2 or Xbox.

SNK will probably release them for the WII and add some sort of motion sensor crap that dosen't have to be there, or put them on the virtual console and charge a boatload.

I just want a comp that includes Real Bout Special 2.

if SNK does start using the motion sensing in most of their old school type of games then I hope it's monly only used for menu manipulation, like a mouse. Other than that, it should all be played with the virtual console cotroller.

Yeah, according to SNK, the Xbox is dead (which is true) and the PS2... well, SCEA won't let them have anything on there now so those 2 are out. As for the Wii, given what the guy from SNK was saying at E3, it's possible that older MVS games would be downloadable on Wii's service (or maybe Xbox Live), but memory was cited as an issue. I think that for newer stuff like Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, KOF XI, SamSho Tenka, and others, we simply won't see them in the US given that SNK is putting these out on the PS2 and there'd be way too much work required to port them to the Wii simply so they can release the games in the US... it's possible though that older games could show up, but importing is the way to go right now.

And given that SNK's putting out a Fatal Fury collection, it'd make no sense for them to not do the same for Real Bout... I'd expect that probably at the end of the year or something (a complete guess.) If there was an Art of Fighting collection, surely a good series like Real Bout would get a collection.

After reading the interview with SNK, it looks like the controller's being implemented into gameplay. I'm just thankful that the PSP version's in development... if SNK decides to get too creative and not let you play the straight up arcade versions of Metal Slug 1-5, there's a safety net.

I guess it's good that SNK's trying new things, but come on...

I think there already was an Art of Fighting Collection.

What dosen't make sense, is that Raiden III is getting released here yet SNK says Sony denies their games... that just dosen't add up. I think there is something SNK dosen't tell us, and paints itself as the victim.

I think once these import prices drop, I'll mod my PS2 and start picking them up. If a Real Bout Collection comes out, I'll mod my PS2 ASAP since I always heard Real Bout 2 was awesome.

There was an AOF collection -- that's what I meant with the statement.

Anyway, isn't Raiden III a budget game that's going to cost like $10? SNK's issue is that they really don't want to release a game in the US at a budget price.

Which is sad, because I think if SNK did do that, they would pull some decent sales from not only the hardcore group, but also the casual person who says "Hey, for $10 - $20, I might as well give this game a shot".

These games don't require much, if any, translation, and I'm sure they've already met their sales goals just from being in Japan, so they might as well put a little icing on the cake.

Ben Herman stated a long time ago that when the next gen was out, they were going to release their games at budget price on the PS2... I guess this idea is out the window. He also mentioned the compliations, and while it took a few years for them to come out, it's good to see they finally did.

http://www.gamedaily.com/fightinggames/features/?gameid=2174&id=726&t=feature

Here he states that the games didn't get released due to their graphics... but still, I know alot of 2-D games that got approved, so I'm still not making the connection.

Is it me or are you tired of all these Metal Slugs. I love playing them every once and awhile, but is the fan base really that big?

Rolento - I think it's really funny that you hate Deco Drive. I think to myself every time I do it, "I work on the worst TV show ever."

: Speaking of Metal Slug Anthology (Wii), can you talk about the game’s features? How does it control? Do you aim where you want to shoot with the pointer?

Ben Herman: You're going to be able to aim and fire with the pointer. You're also going to be able to lob grenades by holding one of the controllers. At this point, the development team is creating it and exact details of which control/configuration will actually be used is not given out, but it's basically going to be interactive with the controllers. Plus we'll have, of course, Wi-Fi capabilities.

AMN: And SNK has a new developer working on this game? An American developer? What is the name of the development team?

Ben Herman: Yes, in Texas. The name of which I'm...we're not into naming who brings the games to us, they don't get first-party announcements as I would call it. Though they are very happy. They are actually developing the PSP version too.

Here's another interview with Ben Herman about the PS2 from 2004... the man is all over the place.

http://www.insertcredit.com/news/e3_2004/snk/snk_interview.html

He states that Sony likes pack-in's, he likes pack-in's, yet if they were offering the same games to both Microsoft and Sony and Sony was rejecting them, then we know games like Neowave and Samurai Shodown 5 were stand alone's and not bundled with anything.

He knew for a fact Sony wouldn't accept stand alone games, yet he kept offering them? It's no wonder they got rejected, and he had to have KNOWN that future games would... I don't really get the man. What happened to the pack-in's, if "they were indeed his plan all along"?

From 2004:

So for now, SNK USA is going to roll out a pretty extensive line of products. And there will be gifts!! With the 2002/2003 pairing they’ll be giving out the full set of KOF character cards from ’99 to ’03, and there will be an ‘undetermined-but-interesting’ pack-in with the Samurai Shodown comp as well.

What happened with that?

I think they eliminated that just because, well, SNK's games have probably failed horribly in the US. It doesn't make sense for them to throw in a gift or go with an elaborate pack-in scheme with a game that only the hardcore will buy.

On a side note, I think SNK's going to be making more 3D games than ever in the coming generation. They know they need to be on the PS3 and 360 and it seems the only way they can do that is by having a 3D game and fulfilling the HD requirement. SNK's 2D offerings simply aren't working for US audiences anymore...

I think by Pack-In he means another game... like KoF 2002 / 2003, not necessarily a bonus item. I also meant what happened with this Samurai Shodown comp that was apparently planned but never materialized.

Metal Slug 6 is the last game on Atomiswave, and from looking at all of Ben Herman's interviews I mentioned one where he says exactly what you said... that now he knows exactly what Sony and Microsoft want and SNK needs to be a in a place to give them that.

I'm just pissed because I wanted ports of the ps2 games Japan got, and from Ben Herman's constant yarn spinning I would have to say he's partly to blame.

I'm pretty Sony would have approved a Samurai Shodown compliation, or ANY of these KoF compliations, yet it seems SNK has just given up on bringing any games out over here. From what I've seen SNK didn't try to bring out any of the comp's on either system.

Hell, bundle Neo Geo Battle Coliseum with something cheap like SvC Chaos and bring it out over here on PS2.

Import costs kill me though.

I'm sure Neo Geo Battle Coliseum is awesome, but it's in no way $64.90 (before shipping from Play Asia) awesome, espically since nobody I know plays fighters.

Well, I lie, I know some people who do but they don't like SNK's stuff, only Capcom's.

Okay, that's understandable... if it helps at all, Play-Asia is a little cheaper with the game price and shipping costs though... stuff like Garou's only $35 or $40 as well which isn't a bad price at all.

Has there been a Samurai Shodown collection yet?

These are the ones I see so far:

KoF 95 - 97
KoF 99 - 2002? (where is KoF 98?)
Last Blade 1 + 2
Art of Fighting 1 - 3
Mark of the Wolves
Fatal Fury 1 - 3
Some kind of super Samurai Shodown game that has everyone (better then 5?)

As it stands now, I can just mod my ps2, and dump all my Saturn / Dreamcast SNK games and pick them up for PS2. I take they are all arcade perfect?

I may seriously consider it... I have a good collection of SNK games for the two aforementioned systems, it might be nice to consolidate them all on a system I actually play often.

The closest thing to a super Samurai Showdown is Samurai Spirits: Tenkaichi

It's got pretty much everyone... like 50 characters or something ridiculous. The only downside is that there's no blood. It's supposedly the best game in the series to a lot of people (except for people on Neo-Geo.com... but they menstruate over any changes a game receives.)

KOF 95-97 is supposed to be an excellent collection and I'd assume the same for 99-2001 (2002 isn't included) when that comes out. That set also includes KOF 99 Evolution which is supposedly better.

KOF 98 hasn't come out yet, but people are expecting that a Rebout gets made (where they throw in high res sprites and extra shit... in addition to the original game.)

Last Blade 1 and 2 was apparently butchered so that LB 2 doesn't run at the proper frame rate and there's sound issues all over the place.

AOF 1-3 is an excellent compilation

Garou is supposed to be an excellent port.

the super SamSho game is Tenkaichi. Many think it's the best in the series, but those who don't usually say "there's no blood and... and... they changed some stuff." Those are typically the people at Neo-geo.com who menstruate over anything.

So not all of them are arcade perfect, but the majority are. They also feature filters so you can improve the look of the game a bit should you need to. At the very least, all the ports are better than previous entries on the DC, Saturn, PS1, etc.

If Last Blade 2 was butchered then I don't think it's superior to the DC one ;)

Thanks for all the info, though, I definately appreciate it.

since everyone's talking about snk... SNK is horrible on updating the press and public on their progress on projects. Their two top DS games, KOF DS and Card Fighters Clash DS (both Nintendo Wifi working... yay!), have close to zilch on new info.

kotaku put up an interesting thing abot a new 3d fighter... or shoudl I say a new 3d hentai fighter >_<
