CAGbag: Get your questions answered on CAGcast

Cheapy, in your videos from E3 your eyes are quite red, either from being very tired or for another reason. So my question is, how long were you in the U.S until you broke down and bought weed?

How well do you feel each of the three Press conferences went?

What was your Game of Show?

How incredibly awesome were both Guitar Hero 3 and Rockband?

What famous Game Developers as well as what fellow video game journalists did you get to meet?

Cheapy,
I heard from someone on the IGN boards who went to E3 that the ESA was acting like Nazi's about everything related to the show in terms of what could/couldn't be shown. I know Infinity Ward especially complained about how many hoops they had to go through to show their demo during the MSoft conference and how Sony was doing things against the rules but getting away with it pissing off Microsoft. Did you see any ESA Nazi's in action?

Wombat,
How will the proposed "commuter tax" for NY affect you and your wife?

As always keep up the great work!

What was your favorite party from E3? Who did you meet with from the gaming business and the gaming media? Any good drinking stories from E3?

This E3 question is for both CheapyD and Wombat (who I realize was absent.)
After discussing the show between yourselves, do you think CheapyD learned more from going to the shows, or Wombat from just reading all the websites and watching the trailers online? Obviously the experience of being there is more comforting than a website, but with time as a small commodity it's obvious you couldn't visit everything you wanted to.

And yes, I realize you could easily read the websites too, Cheapy, but my real question is, is going to the show for information as big a part of it as just the experience?

What were the most impressive and unimpressive games you saw for all three consoles and the two handhelds, if you got a chance to at least see a few for each system? Was there anything interesting for the PS2?

Do you prefer the new E3 format over the old one? What was the best thing you liked about each format?

Have both of your opinions on Rock Band changed since you poo-pooed the early hype on CAG? How do you think it will do compared to Guitar Hero III in the fall?

My final E3 questions before the CAGcast (most likely) ..

Cheapy (and to a lesser extent Wombat since you hide in your burrow and dont go to E3) how do you respond to the rumors that E3 will be held in Las Vegas next year and will supposedly be a mix of a consumer expo of year's past and trade expo like this past year?

Cheapy and Wombat, Also, do you guys think Sony's Home will give Xbox Live a run for its money?

And this question is solely for Cheapy .. after seeing the games at E3 this year who do you think has the leg up in the coming year in the console wars?

I was sad to see my question got passed over, so I'm reposting it in hopes of getting it hit up next week:

This is more for Wombat, but I'd like Cheapy's opinion as well:

I know we've seen with Activison that they've met with much success re-releasing Gold Editions and 2K has done the same with the Elder Scrolls, but what do you think of the recently announced GOTY edition of Oblivion, do you find this fair to purchasers of the Shivering Isles expansion such as yourself Wombat? I know I was planning to purchase it come August to hold me over until Halo 3, but now, I'm selling off my Collector's Edition copy because frankly, it will be cheaper for me to do so, and then buy the GOTY when it comes out. With Shivering Isles at $30, and this game at $50 at release it seems (CAG's are sur eto fin d it cheaper), what is the incentive to purchase it online? Having to have it load up each time? Taking up hard-drive space? It just seems like a huge f-you to their fans, especially those who purchased the PS3 version and don't even have the option to download the Isles.

Feel free to cut this down for the cast, I just wanted to give you some background to work with.

Hey Cheapy,
I read that you commented that the Halo 3 model Xbox 360 was significantly quieter than normal. do you think they will have the new chips? I refuse to buy a 360 until the new chips are in it (sold my old one before it could break thinking the elites would have the new chip). This Halo 3 model looks cool to me and the HDMI is a good kicker, my wife will be horrified at how ugly it is, but it will be too late.

thanks, peace and chicken grease,
Thaddeus

Hello Guys,

Wondering if eaither of you.. ok if CHeapyD is going to be grabbing the latest Railfan for the PS3(or if you are playing this now). I guess it was just announced as being launched in Japan in the Fall but I know Play-Asia has it already. Driving the Shinkansen in Taiwan should be pretty cool. Wish they would offer a version in Japan as well. And when will Wombat get his first taste of Railfan?

Keep up the great work.

Hey Cheapy,
I have some bones to pick with you guys.

Those Youtube E3 wrap ups seem kinda selfish.
You get to demo all these games, meet with developers and meet all the guys from the other sites and all we get is a bald head white guy doing a jet-lagged, marijuana-induced wrap up.
You could have video taped your e3 experience or you could have set up a temporary E3 blog full of pictures and video.

Also, How can you say "Doing the same thing is OK, if you do it right." then say Ratchet & Clank for the PS3 looks like the same thing with better graphics?

And Wombat, Why didn't you watch the Big 3 press conferences? You're on a video game podcast and you have no input on a huge media event. Shame on you.

Love Always, Evil Tweezy

Hey Cheapy,

I work for a Japanese based company and notice that the guys from japan I work with work long hours, usually 12 a day. I was wondering if this is pretty normal around your neck of the woods, and if I should feel bad about rushing out the door at 5 for happy hour. Take care.

Also, I love the nyquil drinking games Wombat mentioned. Ever heard about Edward 40 hands?

With the hype surrounding upcoming single player only games like Mass effect and Bioshock should Bunjie be focusing more on the single player experience of Halo? I do enjoy the multiplayer matches in Halo but I think that the single player experience could be better. On the ps3 you have a multiplayer only experience with Warhawk maybe microsoft could put out a similar product with the Halo multiplayer and create the single player game seperately.

I didn't know you and the wife were Battlestar Galactica fans Cheapy.
When did you start watching BSG? What do you think of BSG so far?
Hey Cheapy,

BEST GAME EVER! :bouncy:

As a kind of change of pace, I wanted to ask CheapyD a quick question about Japan. I understand that Manga is basically as popular in Japan as Magazines or newspapers here, but is there a market in Japan for American comic books? Do you ever see a kid on the subway reading The Incredible Hulk in japanese the way translated Manga is everywhere here in the states?

Oh, and so Wombat doesn't feel left out, what are you reading (besides World War Hulk, of course.)

Wait, this is a video game podcast? What?

Hay Cheapy,

I watched your E3 videos. Nice work and thanks for the coverage. I just have one question. Did you wear the same shirt two days in a row?

Keep up the great work nad say hi to Wombat and the folks.

Loyal listener,
TDog
Hey Cheapy, any relation between you and David Evangelista?

Saw this on TV and thought the resemblance was uncanny. :D
get it away, get it away!

That is uncanny... so uncanny it's creeping me out.

Hey guys,
What is the hardest game you've ever played? For me, it's the original Ghosts N Goblins for the NES. Those red devil guys suck!

Have you or Mrs. Cheapy ever thought of competing on Ninja Warrior? I think you'd do pretty well until any portion that involved you climbing a rope or hoisting yourself up. You'd have the crazy height advantage, so I think you could do decently.

HOLY fuck COCKS! Wow, that IS uncanny.

Cheapy, you generally had a very positive view of the new E3 in many respects. Have you listened to the EGM/1up guys' take on it (which is pretty negative)? If so, what do you think accounts for the difference in what you and they experienced?

Cheapy, I just read your "Me Too" article on the front page and im baffled at how you can say that Nintendo won best in show. Sure they are making great progress for the gaming industry as a whole, but for a company to boast so much about its success and then turn around and give us little more than the Balance Board is slightly ironic. We all know Nintendo's track record on gimicky peripherals and I don't see how 6 months after its release the Balance Board will be any different. What is your reasoning behind giving Nintendo best in show when they release things like this?

I was really hoping that this year's E3 would give me a good reason to want to stand in lines to buy a wii but WiiFit makes me want to WiiSit on my couch and play more 360. Im waiting for Nintendo to just cut the bullshit and finally come out with the WiiBong, a peripheral that is guaranteed to be a hit. (I'll resist the urge to say what goes in the WiiBong.)

P.S.: Wombat, I'm going to New York City for a few days in mid August and was wondering if there are any game related places that would be worth checking out other than the Nintendo World Store?

CheapYD!!! Please try to get into the METAL GEAR SOLID ONLINE beta!
It's only in Japan and only 3,000 people get to do it. I'm not sure if its like...3,000 users online at once, or only 3,000 people can sign up.
The beta test will run from August 20 through September 3.
Try to get into it, PLZ!!!
I would love to hear your impressions about it.
Thanks!

This year's E3 sucked when it came to news. My theory is that the industry now releases bits of news throughout the year now instead of blowing their collective wad at E3 like years past. Agree or disagree?

CheapyD, did you get to play some of the unreleased XBLA titles that should be coming this year? If so, what's your most anticipated and which one sucked the most?

Cheapy and Wombat, with the Microsoft’s game division posting big losses, Sony's difficulties with moving consoles and the Wii's lack of games and poor software sales, despite good hardware sales, do you feel this has been a bad year for gaming? Are we heading for another market crash, like the one that happened in 1983? What is your opinion on the state of gaming thus far? If you think we're all headed for certain DOOM, then what can the industry do to align itself with the path of victory! (?)

It seems like almost all of the games at E3 for XBOX 360 and PS3 have great graphics, especially the FPS. Do you think this is the case and is it all about the gameplay in this generation?

Also, do you think there are too many FPS and what can one game do from another to differentiate itself?

Hey Cheapy, congrats on the future addition! Just curious if you and Mrs. Cheapy have come up with any name ideas for the new boy. Can we expect the baby to be named CheapyD Jr.? Maybe some kind of video game or Robocop related? Or is Mrs. Cheapy will be taking full responsibilites of name choosing?

Hey Wombat and Cheapy! Congratulations on the baby, Cheapy!

Anyway, my question isn't video game related, but Japan related. You said that Japanese people are weird. Which I agree with wholeheartedly. But, is it really that Japan is too weird, or are we just too dull?
I double dog dare cheapy to eat some fermented soy beans on a CagCast.
Natto...my mortal enemy...that would make a good video too.
I've never tried it and it looks NASTY.

Oh yeah, that stuff actually tastes as bad as it looks and smells. It definitely isn't "Ice Cucumber" ("it's not disgusting"...yes, it really is disgusting), but I say make the video! Your expression when that shit hits your mouth will be priceless...

Hey Cheapy,

Do you think we will see a recall of old 360s that are sitting on store shelves when Microsoft gets the new 'falcon' chip 360s into stores?

Has the line between third person and first person disappeared?

The XBOX platform is often criticized because of the abundance of first person shooters. But if you look at games for the PS3 and 360 most of the really big titles are now a hybrid of first and third person. Titles like Mass Effect, UT3, R6:VEGAS, MGS4 and even Halo 3 with the vehicles and larger weapons. All these games present a merging together of the two genres.

Is this just because of the extra power available in the PS3 and 360? Or is using this new hybrid gameplay perspective better than choosing one over the other?

Hello I enjoyed this last show but thought I would bring up a couple of things.

The 360 can also do a custom background it uses the same image for all tabs but you can use whatever picture you like just go under the media tab and pictures and after you select the location of the file, media server or memory stick just highlight the image you want to use and press X to set as back ground.

Also on Silcon Knight they moved off the Unreal Engine cause it wasnt working out what we saw this E3 was on their engine they just want their money back cause they had to do it themselves and it has caused them horrible delays. So cant totally blame them on the lawsuit even if they sound whiny from time to time.

People were out in force on the MS Points deal this morning they were out but I have hope of a restock on Wednesday crossing fingers or maybe time to try a price match. Keep up the good work.

I forgot you had (Maurice?) the play-asia guy over for your party...did he mention anything about the new side-scrolling shmup they are helping to produce? The screens are looking nice so far...

Cheapy, now that you will have a little one crawling around, what will be your policy with him and Mature rated games? I know that he obviously isn't going to be playing GTA out of the crib, but when he starts getting older, and he sees daddy's games, where will you draw the line at what he can and can't play?

And one more question: Why did you wait so long to tell Wombat and the rest of the CAGCommunity?

Congratulations on the soon-to-be new baby boy
