CAGLS: Madden 25 Fan's League! Season 3 Complete! Jets Win! Thanks Everybody!

And we have now advanced to Free Agency Week #2. A few big signings and a few more retirements (seems like there have been a lot).

Signings

Giants sign Roddy White

Redskins sign Dez Bryant

Retirements

Jason Witten

Charles Tillman

Robert Mathis

We'll be advancing again around this same time tomorrow.

I thought we used at max 10 mil over the total contract they asked for last season.
You might be right. I remember liking that policy from the Official League. I just couldn't remember if we put it into practice. In general, it would be reasonable anyway (I know none of the offers I made exceeded this). But yeah...somebody find last offseason's guidelines. If we did put that in place, we definitely need to stick to it.

I'll be advancing us to the next stage of the offseason in about 15 minutes and I just wanted to post our rules for free agency so everyone is aware (these didn't apply during the re-signing period...but with bidding wars possible now, yeah we'll need them). We'll be using the same rules that the Official League used...which were borrowed from our rules last year and tweaked a little more, making them even stronger, in my opinion. They are as follows:

Free Agency Notes:

  • You can only offer contracts at the length the player is asking for. If the FA wants a 1 year deal, you are only allowed to offer 1 year.
  • Owners cannot offer more than $10 million over what the player is asking for (contract total).
  • Owners are allowed to bid on and sign as many FA's as they'd like, however there will be a 53 man limit at the end of the preseason (duh).

In addition, since DarkTower80 had a hiccup with his re-signings, and had intended to franchise tag Antoine Bethea (which would have taken him off the market), no user team is allowed to put an offer in on Bethea. Obviously, I can't do anything about the CPU teams...but this will give DarkTower a fighting chance...and if he chooses to use the $10M cushion on overpaying, he should be able to beat out the CPU.

Those are the only special circumstances I can think of at the moment. If anyone has any questions let me know. Do not break any of these rules, as it will result in a strike.
Here it is.

Didn't have a chance to post earlier, but we have advanced to Free Agency #3. And yeah, we should definitely follow the policies outlined above. So, you're only allowed to offer the years a player is looking for and no more than $10M (total contract) over what they're asking for. Hopefully nobody is going that overboard anyway...but I know there are some pretty big stars out there.

I'll advance us again tomorrow...and we'll be readying things for our draft on Monday.

Also, it looks like the two significant signings from this advance were

Ravens sign Vince Wilfork

Jaguars sign Kareem Jackson

So. After 18 months of being off on Mondays, my request to be off Saturdays and Sundays was finally fulfilled. Unfortunately, I had no knowledge of it and I'm now working on Monday night. I should have known of course, because I decided to start scouting yesterday. Sigh.

We have advanced to the final section of scouting before the draft. I'm pretty excited for this season. Lots of players retired and lots of players switched teams. Here are some of the notables:

Tom Brady retired....so the Patriots signed Tim Tebow to a 4 year $20.2M deal...I can't wait to see this in action, lol.

Wes Welker signed with the Panthers...who also signed Ryan Fitzpatrick to replace Cam Newton. Well, at least they also signed newly un-retired punter Shane Lechler, haha.

Atlanta is a totally different team. They lost Asante Samuel, Osi Umenyiora, Steven Jackson, and Brandon Lloyd to retirement...and Roddy White to free agency...and they signed Kyle Rudolph, Owen Marecic, Brandon Bolden, Torrey Smith, Mike Iupati, O'Brien Schofield, Colin McCarthy, Brice Butler, Alex Barron, Legarrette Blount, Beanie Wells, Ray Edwards, Byron Stingily, and Peyton Hillis....whew. If you're keeping count...that's 4 RBs and 1 FB they signed alone, lol.

And the Titans won the Marcell Dareus sweepstakes, signing him to a 5 year $40M contract. He was asking for $33M...and I just decided to go for it. I had a decent amount of cap space, and getting rid of Shonn Greene and Sammie Hill's contracts allowed me to splurge a bit. Even after the rookie reserve, I've still got like $2M. Pretty happy with that.

Sweet. Managed to get all of my free agent targets: Roddy White, Ryan Wendell, Aaron Williams and Mikel LeShoure, among others.

Also, Cam Newton and Colin Kaepernick didn't sign with anyone it looks like from the website.

I got all 5 of mine as well. Colin McCarthy rejected my offer during the season, and I probably could have gotten him back in open free agency, but I said screw it, and made an offer to Miles Burris. San Diego had a competing offer during the 2nd round of free agency, but I guess they withdrew it because I had the only offer on him before we advanced. I didn't know CPU teams would withdraw offers like that.

And that's crazy about Newton and Kaep. I know they were both wanting like $20M per season. If that holds true...I'd say we need to do a "draft style" round of free agency during the preseason...but more than likely, a CPU team will snatch them up on a cheaper one year deal anyway...which might just be for the best.

Man I gave Dareus 43 mil and purchased the DT free agency bonus, this sucks haha
I go out of town for 5 days and I miss the entire offseason. *That* sucks. I couldn't resign any of my RFAs and I was gonna tag Harris after he spurned my midseason offer, but I'm sure he's gone, too. And I couldn't make any offers for UFAs to fill holes. I'm a little concerned with what shape my team might be in when I get home tomorrow. :whistle2:/

Giants send:

RB David Wilson

age 24

Overall 86

Ratings: 95 speed, 94 acceleration, 86 elusiveness, 83 carry, 95 Juke

Contract: 4 year contract, 1 year remaining 2015: 2.03 M Bonus 3.2 M

Saints send

21st overall pick

85th overall pick

After signing Mikel LeShoure, I'd rather go with him, as I believe he's more in the style of running back that works for me. The Saints number one need according to the game is running back, so Wilson is a great fit for them.
Trade Approved...assuming the CPU will accept it. Feel free to put it through whenever you want, Rob.

Pitfallharry, you took the guy I was going to pick in both the 1st and 2nd rounds right before I came up.  Damn you! ;-)

Ha. I was praying that MLB wouldn't get taken by one of the two human teams picking right before me. He's got some nice ratings. I'm glad I scouted that deeply in the MLB pool.

All right...well, that went reasonably smoothly, I think. I'm cool with turning off injuries and advancing to the preseason if you guys want.

Just make sure NOBODY SIGNS ANY FREE AGENTS!!!

Somehow, stupid ass Cam Newton and Colin Kaepernick didn't sign with anybody...so, they're going to now have retardedly cheap one year contracts. In my opinion...I think we should just let the CPU scoop them up as they probably would have anyway. So, even though I'm fine with opening up free agency eventually...I think we should wait until at least week 4 of the preseason just to allow this stuff to straighten itself out.

Any objections?

We could also just say they are off-limits and open signings before week 4.  I have several positions I would like to upgrade before the CPU takes all the good players.

I think we should open it up sooner, but just mark those two as untouchables. Basically what he said. ^

I missed most of the offseason, including the re-signing and free agency stages. My team is pretty depleted due to that. I think HooRox said he had the same issue.

I feel pretty decent about my draft. I had to swap around a bunch of the positions I wanted to target since my players kept getting snatched up (stupid CPU Vikings took my QB in the 2nd round). But both MLB's I drafted in the 1st and 2nd round have quick development. That Mike Thompson I guess was the guy with Crohn's Disease that they kept doing stories on during last season. His injury rating is like 65 and his OVR is only 68...but his other numbers are pretty solid. I doubt either guy will develop much in one season since I signed Miles Burris anyway.

And the QB I drafted in the 3rd round is a 78 OVR...that shocked the hell out of me since he wasn't one of my top targets.

Actually, it was only the MLB in the 2nd rnd you took. It was the Vikings who drafted right before me that took the SS I wanted. Sry for the accusation. :)

I'm not totally against that. I'm just not sure if there are any other big players that just didn't sign. And the biggest concern would be avoiding a free for all where whoever gets on first signs all the big players. If you guys would rather, we can just do draft style like we always do (should be really easy with so few teams left...we'd probably only need 2 groups).

I strongly agree that we shouldn't wait until week 4. Since I also missed the predraft free agency because I was on travel and I couldn't get some of the guys I targeted in the draft, I have a couple positions I am desperate to try to improve, if FAs are available.

The draft style is fine with me.  2 rounds should be enough to get the big openings filled before we open it up for depth signings.

Yeah, I assumed it would be a draft style period. That's the most fair way to do it.

Full disclosure: I was trying to avoid it because I'm lazy, lol.

But that's cool. We can do a couple rounds of draft style free agency like usual. I turned injuries off and advanced us to Week 1 of the preseason. I've got to get my daughter to bed now, but I'll post our two free agency groups in like an hour or so.

Actually, nevermind, that was easier than I thought. Group 1 may start by selecting 1 FREE AGENT now.

Group 1

Giants

Broncos

Panthers (99% sure Dark Rider is done...but I didn't want to boot him until that 1% is ruled out)

Colts

Group 2 - May select 1 FREE AGENT starting at 10 AM ET on 4/8

Redskins

Bengals

Jets

Packers

Titans

Remember, post your signing in the thread first, as this reserves the player for you.

Titans

Add: Quincy Black, ROLB (I think this is the 3rd time I've used my free agency pick up on him, lol...he's just a good guy to have as a backup)

Drop: Kent Guess, LOLB (I was drafting blind at this point, and I thought his name would be prophetic. It was a bad guess, lol. 48 OVR)
