Call of Duty: World at War - Gen. Disc. & Info
Yeah, that sucked ass. It was impossible to do anything.

Hitman, I'm not sure I have anyone I can delete. I have deleted 6 people this week and the spots were immediately filled. Between people I know personally, longtime Xbox Live friends, CAGs, and members of the other board I post at, it's hard to find a name to take off. I'll see what I can do.
Cant you make a 2nd gamertag, add that one to your first tag, and add more people to the 2nd gamertag. I know it wont show if they are online, but you could look at your 2nd tag, then see his friends and see who is online....right? Or something like that.

That's not a bad idea. I have a silver tag I registered for a friend of mine to play the 1 month of Gold. I could always use that. Thanks for the suggestion, John.

Yeah, looking over the achievements for the game 2/3 of them seem to be play ______ on veteran.

I'm going to have a sub 200 point gamerscore for this game undoubtedly. I've only ever managed to complete one or two levels on veteran in the previous COD games and those were the really short or vehicle based ones that were cheap and easy to beat since you're hidden in a vehicle or something most of the level.

edit: Found a pretty good strategy after dieing over 50 times.
Move up, kill the guys that pop up in the spider hole. Move to the rock by the right, switch to machine gun and kill everyone you see. Throw a smoke to the right, hug the wall and keep moving up slowly. Keep throwing smokes when needed. A checkpoint is up the hill.
Is it just me, or do smoke grenades NOT provide much cover in Veteran Campaign as they did in COD2 or COD4?

This game is badass. If you dont like it on Vet, play it on normal. It is still fairly challenging. If you want some action similar to vet, play multiplayer. You will die a lot either way. Co-Op where it keeps your score is so sick in this game. Roll up a J, and give it a try. Crazy Japaneese guys running at you yelling banzai! Puts you right in the war.
In my newfound infatuation with the multiplayer I completely forgot about the Zombie mode. I'll definitely have to start ignoring the multiplayer game invites and finish the single player so I can try that out.
So, how well did that work out for you last night? ;)

And just to clarify (sorry if this was already posted), do you have to beat the campaign on a certain difficulty level to unlock the zombie mode or is any one of them fair game?

I guess you probably have to beat the game in Single-player to get Zombie mode and not Co-op since it's a whole other beast.

Balls. I haven't picked this up yet because my dog is sick, but as soon as I get a grasp on my personal finances this game will be played by me.

Looks like a lot of fun — more than I thought it might be.

My best to your furry friend, Rudy.

Are the Prestige icons the same ones from Call of Duty 4?
I would like to know this too. Im hoping they arent the same.
It would be neat if at Level 10 a Prestige Icon editor option appeared on the side and allowed you edit your own icon. That, I would prestige for.

YAY! Just beat this on Vet! Congrats to me.

God damn the SP was just a chore to get through on vet....no fun at all just a chore and the end level is trash with no climax what so ever.

I wont spoil it but there isnt much to be spoiled. I like the fact that the very ending scene is
COMPLETELY ripped of COD4 ending.
but as a whole the SP wasnt good at all. Very boring and forgettable.

I cant believe they rip off so many things from COD4 and couldnt come up with a storyline. Hell you stole everything else just replace that terrorist from COD4 with some high ranking Nazi at least it wouldnt bore me to tears.

I know at least the first one is different. If you look at the top of the global leaderboard you can see it, at least it was there on the first day... dude might be all the way to 10 by now. They look more like patches than medals.

For what I played of the single-player story campaign, I dug the art style of the loading/transition screens. Neat stuff.

Was there a mile high club mission too?
Was there a mile high club mission too?
Sadly there wasnt and I was extremely surprised when there wasnt. But after the credits you go right into Zombie Mode so I am guessing thats their mile high club.

Hell the regular games was as harder to get through than MHC ever could be though.

can you play online multiplayer with a guest, not co-op I know you can play splitscreen online, or is it like COD 4 just single player online.

Whenever I try to link my Gamertag to my CallofDuty.com account, it says there is no such VIP number as the one the game gave me. I triple checked it, and the number I entered is correct. has this happened to anyone else?

For those who are playing this game or have beaten it, how is the language in this game in comparison to CoD 4? I remember CoD 3 having very bad language while CoD 4 not nearly as much. Since World at War is Treyarch again, have they gone back to their "mature" strong language ways? Is it worse than Gears, also? (Even though they have a filter)

And aside from what they actually consider bad language on the ratins, is their words using the Lord's name in vein like CoD 3? And if anyones played Gears 2 also, do they use such words in that game as well?

Thanks

Both games use words like "shit" and "God damn it". No disrespect- I was raised Christian and believe in God- but if that sort of stuff offends you (or you're worried about the effects it may have on a child), you probably shouldn't be playing (or allowing said child to play)M-rated shooting games. I mean, if you're getting shot or having body parts blown off, you're not going to be like, "Oh golly gee willikers, that's inconvenient." And on that note, if you are concerned with the language, does the blood and dismemberment bother you at all?

Blood, not really, but games like Halo and other M-rated games are fine. Certain game companies have more respect I've found and others, like Treyarch in the past, don't.

I love that kind of animation.

Anyway I was thinking of getting it tomorrow, but if it has a lot of really bad language I wouldn't want to play. I mean I don't care about s**t or a** as much, I don't want to play games with bad language in front of the family at all.
So ya if thats the worst it gets I can deal with it...is there anything else? The one that I find really disturbing is when they use Christ's name in a bad way...so do they use that?
They drop the F bomb alot, still amazes me people are more offended by this stuff instead of the guys you are lighting on fire, that then go screaming away to die.

Well with those guys you can always press start-->restart mission, and have them all respawn if thats a concern

you know there's an option in the beginning to turn off graphical content, which also turns off the bad words...

but online play like they say 'is not monitored by the esrb'

Never mind I read it wrong I thought you were talking about the CE extras code. It didn't wanna take mine on the site. I replaced the 0 with o and still didn't work. After typing it several times the first thing I entered finally took.

Online is addictive as 4 was and i've been playing all night AGAIN but someone was talking about zombie mode so i think i'm gonna run through the story real quick on easy so I can unlock that. I'll replay it later with the difficulty cranked up. :D

I'm digging the single player.....I basically played through it all (I believe I am on the last board...what is it called?). The length is typical for COD games...seems to be about 4-6 hours maybe. This is on Normal difficulty.

The AI becomes ridiculously cheap on Veteran difficulty. Sometimes, they don't even see me, and they shoot at me through walls---in the head---while I'm prone.

Also, the team AI is better in Gears 2. Not only do they not kill enemies right in front of them, but they don't even heal. What is the point in including the ability if the team AI isn't going to use it?

Regarding multiplayer perks. "Reconnaissance shows artillery strikes and tanks on the radar, and is unlocked at level 64."

How is that useful when we can track artillery strikes in the air and see enemy tanks, uh, with our eyes? Outside of Flamethrower and Second Chance, the perks are a bit disappointing. It's a shame that Katana and Tree Climbing were a rumor.

These issues aside, the multiplayer rocks like socks on cocks. The map design is tops like... cops... on... mops?

I agree with you chase but I personally is a little more disappointed in the multiplayer. The perks are a complete disappointment. And to be honest the weapons are also. I know its era weapons but they all feel the same to me.

Compared to COD3 (3 mind you) I think this is a step back and I have felt that way every since I have known they were going with the COD4 engine.

I completely understand as to why they went that route but I dont like it. COD3 MP had meaning when legit task to preform. You moved more like a unit through out the map and I have found memories of 5 or 6 guys hiding behind cover at a choke point taking fire and me getting that thrill of dunking in and out of bullets to get to a downed man as a medic.

This...this is just to far into the causal realm of gaming for my taste. The COD4 engine works great as a modern war far engine and falls flat on its face as a WWII engine.

Also as a after thought....BOOOOOO on the dumbass co-op achievements. All "Get out of the basement and make some friends" jokes aside...my schedule barely allows me to hook up with my girlfriend let alone a couple of my friends to get an achievement.

By the way....2nd chance is great....but barely anyone actually seems to use the damn thing other than me, so it winds up being useless.

And the Perk 1 slot still sucks all types of hell.

EDIT: Also I think the lag and slow down when a Artie strike lands near you is a little much. You are most likely going to die anyway you dont need the extra,.

Also, aren't there only like 3 coop achievements? All of them being really, really easy with no skill or effort required?

I agree with the second chance part. At least 3 guys on each team should have second chance, or it is kinda pointless. I love the sachel charges though! I never used c4 on cod4, but am loving using these guys to take out tanks and set up traps around WAR Flags. This game is fun as hell, but I cannot convince my friends to put down cod4 and start playing this. They try but seem to suck at cod5, and dont want to take the time to get good.

I enjoy Second Chance. I feel bad when someone dies because they were reviving me, though. I enjoy reviving people simply because most people don't expect it. Second Chance seems to have curbed Martyrdom use as I have only encountered a handful of players equipped with Martyrdom.

Ummmm, 1 perk doesnt make the entire class suck any less. Yeah BB's are great but everything else in there is pretty much pointless.

And thats a problem COD4 had also....after what? A week everyone pretty much settled into 2 or 3 types of perks and that was it. 80% of the persk in the game were never used other than "that guy" who got a kick out of using perks like Dead Silence and claiming how great it was.

In a week the only perks that are going to be used are SP, BB, Juggs, Flame (depending on how good it actually is) and maybe 2 or 3 others all else will fall by the way side.

Thats is what I was refering to. As a whole 80% of all the perks are just plain lame.

Bomb Squad – Unlocks at level 16.

Bouncing Betty x 2 – Unlocks at level 24.

Bandolier – Unlocks at level 40.

Primary Grenade x 2 – Unlocks at level 44.

M2 Flamethrower – Unlocks at level 65.

None of these are useless (depending on the flamethrower, which kicks ass in single).

I agree with the fact that Martyrdom is gone way down but I dont think it has anything to do with 2nd chance.

I rarely see anyone other than me actually using it.These maps are 4 times the size of the maps in COD4. In 4 you could barely move without falling over someone thus making Martyrdom a major way to get kills.

COD5 maps are simply to big to get a ton of kills from that perk.

You're crazy, man.

It's true that there will only be a handful of perks that end up being popular but that doesn't make the rest of them necessarily useless. I don't have a list in front of me, but for explosives, Betties, bazookas, satchel charges, bandolier and bomb squad are all useful. If anything, Perk 1 has the strongest lineup, pretty much every single one except for maybe 3x secondary grenade is useful. Personally, I find bandolier to be one of the best in the game and bomb squad is a necessity for me in S&D.

For the other ones, I like camouflage, steady aim and sometimes extreme conditioning and sleight of hand, I don't think any of those are particularly popular, especially when compared with stopping power, juggernaut, martyrdom and second chance but they can be just as useful.

I still use martydom when playing position type games such as WAR and HQ because it gives you some more time with the other team not capturing the flag/HQ

*Shakes head.

If you say so man...I am not going to go around in circles again.

After a week when every person you see is rocking the exact same set up you call me.

But for shits and giggles I will go through this. Now I am not saying that you can select one of these perks and use it to some effectiveness, I am saying over all none of them but a few are worth wile in having.

Bomb Squad. No one ever uses this....ever, I am not even going to waste time talking about it.

BB's Great all around.

Bandoleer is a perk I swore by on COD4 never left without it but not really needed in this game anymore. All the weapons feel about the same so picking one up off the ground isnt a big deal. If you can use 1 bolt action you can use them all. Run out of machine guns or sub ammo isnt a big deal either find any other one and spray and pray until you can find the one you do like.

Prime Grenade. Why bother? Again with the maps being so big chucking nades like a crazy person isnt going to work this time around. Having 2 instead of one isnt going to net you hundreds of more kills. Would it be nice having an extra? Sure but not having it isnt going to change anything.

Flame thrower I havent seen so cant comment.

The only thing from that list that I would consider as good is the BB's.

But hey....thats just my opinon....who the hell am I other than another random guy playing. I was damn good at COD4 (I am not that great at this one not surprisingly) and hated most of the perks.
