Comic Book Discussion Thread (Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Top Cow, IDW, Indy, etc)

I have recently been out, haven't been reading up all the comic books so sorry if this has already been brought up or discussed.

But, is anyone else hating the direction spawn is going? In terms of issues 179 and up?(only issues I bought recently) I enjoyed the first 7 - 10 issues so much, I bought some of the non canon ones to such as the whole batman vs spawn ones by miller.

Meh, still going to try and buy some anyways.
I honestly didn't know Spawn was even still around.
So did I :p

Snooped around my local comic store, and found they were still dishing em out.

With Spawn I remember going to about 30 or 40 and stopped but I couldn't tell you what happened in most of those.

As for the rental thing, yes some libraries have TPB's but the selection isn't always the greatest. If you have a great library, congratulations. While core fans are collectors, like I used to be, now that I'm in my 30's I don't want all that hassle. I'm thinking there could be more people like me that just want a good story and don't want the hassle of storing everything or waiting around for a trade. I'm thinking the single issue's could work here, let's say ship out four or so issues each time. Also, new and old readers may like this as it would be a cheap way to get into new series.

Thought about it for a few years now but not sure if the timing is right. Especially if things start moving to digital.

Just like how Rob Liefeld is coming back to Youngblood, McFarlane's return to Spawn should be avoided for fear of brain damage after you finish reading it.

Since when has he ever left Youngblood?

And Spawn was like Ghost Rider in the regard that it's a sweet ass looking visual, but look pass that and you aren't gonna get much (hence why the action figure line is going on for so long).

I like the idea of a rental service but I would personally only be interested in TPB's so I could read an entire story at once. My library doesn't have jack for comics. I was in Gastonia,NC this summer and they actually had a pretty good collection for a town that size. They had the first 4 volumes of Gotham Central which surprised me. Now I just have to find vol. 5 for cheap somewhere. I was also in Seattle this summer and went to the library downtown and they literally had hundreds of TPB's there, possibly over 1K. I'd like to start reading Ex Machina and Y: The Last Man but I'd have to be able to get them cheap.

My library has comics to check out, but I've pretty much read everything I wanted to. the only stuff they get new are major events like Civil War, Secret Invasion etc.. which I already have. And maybe some shitty movie tie-ins like Transformers & G.I. Joe.

My pull this week is ridiculous.

Action Comics #882
Adventure Comics #3
Batgirl #3

Blackest Night Batman #3
Detective Comics Annual #11
Green Arrow and Black Canary #25
Green Lantern Corps #41
JSA vs. Kobra #5
Red Robin #5
Secret Six #14

A DC man, nice to see I'm not the only one.

I Didn't pick up last week, but it was only about three or so comics. Other then that...

ADVENTURE COMICS #3

BATGIRL #3 (if it doesn't pick up after this issue then I'm dropping it)

BLACKEST NIGHT BATMAN #3

DETECTIVE COMICS ANNUAL #11 (depending on who's writing it, goddamn $4.99?!)

GREEN LANTERN CORPS #41

ASTOUNDING WOLF-MAN #19

WALKING DEAD #66

I think there are more DC people than Marvel people in this thread. Nothing wrong with it, just my observation.

Some of my favorite Marvel titles have been falling falt for the last few months. To name a few X-Factor, Incredible Herc, Nova & Gaurdians of the Galaxy.

Cap, Thor & T-Bolts are some of my favorite books right now.

This new Ultimate Avengers run is definatly better than the previous one.
Then why the Ms. Marvel avatar? Wouldn't Powergirl be better?
Figured I'd switch it up for a bit since I just got into a few Marvel titles, but this is the second request for me to bring back Peej. Plus you're right, I need to represent. PG has been my one of my favorites for a long time. So give me a couple minutes and she should be back!

Here's my pull list for the week:

BATGIRL #3
BATMAN #691
BLACKEST NIGHT BATMAN #3
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #41
RED ROBIN #5
TITANS #18
WALKING DEAD #66
UNCANNY X-MEN #516

Thought I had more but I guess not. Oh well, this is a good thing that it's not a whole lot.

GI Joe #8. Larry Hama is back! Not much else to say here. Hama's fantastic, as usual.

Ultimatum Hardcover. While I see the complaints people had with the book, I don't think it was the train wreck it was made out to be. It certainly wasn't the "worst comic I've ever read" as somebody put it. It was a smorgasbord of crazy shit piled on top of more crazy shit, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Fellow Cag Comic book readers, recommend me some good comics!
Something relatively new in the series, that won't leave me disappointed.

Spawn has failed me D:

What kind of stuff do you like?

I forgot Y finished, I'll have to get the rest of the TPB's and a weekend alone. And 100 bullets. Is Fables ending anytime soon?

waiting for the DV8 revival mini series Gods and Monsters. I actually just commissioned the illustrator(Rebekah Isaacs) to the do me a Black Cat commission. Ill post that artwork when its done.

one book i recommend is Dark Tower. What a crazy good book.

I bought the first 2 collected editions of Dark Tower at B&N a few weeks ago, $6 and $7 each. If you're interested in the series but don't want to shell out $25 for each volume I would definitely recommend checking the clearance section at your local B&N.

Supernatural thing going on similar to Spawn, or maybe something along the lines of the watchmen, or dylan dog if you'd consider those comic books.
But if anything, supernatural kinda comics similar to spawn, and batman, I loves me some batman.

I stopped getting Dark Tower. I love the art, but the story was just meh. Now The Stand is amazing. It transfers very well to a comic. I highly recommend it.

I know no one in here might care, but I'm so happy I finally got a copy of Ultimate X-men Volume 5 Hardcover. Paid more than I really wanted to, but it was the cheapest I had found a copy. Now have that series complete in hardcovers, minus the last 3 comics and Requim. Will be getting the Ultimatum HC that includes 3 Ultimate X-men, 3 Ultimate Fantastic Four, the Ultimatum books and the Requims if I remember correctly.

I'd recommend Secret Six. Though I tend to recommend that one for everyone. It's a great series, and more people need to read it.

Ok...I"m a little tight on funds so I can only pick up one new trade tomorrow. Should I pick up either:

The Preacher Volume 5
or
Green Lantern: No Fear
or
Superman For All Seasons

Hmmm

I will definitely check it out, if my comic books store has em. If they do, I wil report back.

Haunt. First issue was released last week and it definitely has potential. Written by Robert Kirkman (who does Walking Dead, Invincible and Astounding Wolfman, which are all awesome) and co-created by Todd McFarlane.

Other then that, Batman and Robin I am enjoying the shit out of. I Forgot Jason Todd's hair color wasn't originally black and so far Grant Morrison is doing a fine job in creating new rogues for Dick Grayson's Batman.

Comics this week for me is pretty light still...

BLACKEST NIGHT SUPERMAN #3
POWER GIRL #6
INVINCIBLE #67

Though may pick up Justice League #38 if one with new line up just to check it out.

Glad to see you're sticking with PG. I've loved the character for a long time.

My week is a decent size. Not getting my pull until Friday though. Have some stuff I have to do during the week unfortunately.

Batman: Streets of Gotham #5
Batman: Unseen #2
Blackest Night: Superman #3
Final Crisis Aftermath: Dance #6
The Outsiders #23
Power Girl #6
Supergirl #46

Btw, anyone else reading Nomad from Marvel? It's been really good. Been my pick of the week every time it's come out so far.

Hell yeah sticking with Power Girl! It's one of the few comics where can jump in and read and have fun with it and it sticks to it's own continuity.
Btw, anyone else reading Nomad from Marvel? It's been really good. Been my pick of the week every time it's come out so far.
I haven't read it, but I was thinking about picking this up. I plan on going to my local comic book shop tomarrow and pick up a few issues I missed while vacation. This might be one of them. Plan on picking up Captian America: Reborn #3 & The Marvel Project #2.
Going to try DCBS for my December pull and see how I like it. Need to start saving more money.
You should try xplosive comics. You get 20% off comics, free bag and board, and free shipping for orders over $25. I like them, found them after I left Things From Another World.

Rei, I work at a comic shop that does mail-order via email (www.comicmadness.com)

20% off, free bag and board, and a free comic with every order (this week it was Ultimates #1.) We also do free media shipping for regulars and multi-book orders. We also use hard plastic mailers and card board shells around the books to ensure safe delivery with no bends or dents.

PM me if you're interested, same goes for anyone else looking for mail order. You'll also have the satisfaction of knowing that your order was packed by me ;)

Non-sales pitch, The Walking Dead 66 was pretty solid. Still really enjoying the book although I think Fear the Hunters was one of the weaker storylines recently. Halfway through The Immortal Iron First Vol. 2 trade and loving it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to be trying several different things over the next couple months to find out what saves me the most money.

I picked DCBS first because they have a good rep and their prices are great (40% off almost everything and up to 75% off a lot of stuff). The only downsides is I'll be getting my books monthly now instead of the weekly, and bag and board isn't free (12 cents for both bag and board together).

I've gone with DCBS for whatever I couldn't get directly from Marvel or DC. Course, as a non fanatical collector compared to my teen years, I don't mind my stuff getting banged up. I don't care about the future value, I just want a good story as cheap as possible.

Didn't pick up comics last week, so now I got a pretty big pull list (yay?)!

BLACKEST NIGHT #4 (OF 8)

BLACKEST NIGHT TITANS #3 (OF 3)

DETECTIVE COMICS #858GOTHAM CITY SIRENS #5

GREEN LANTERN #47 (BLACKEST NIGHT)

SUPERMAN SECRET ORIGIN #2 (OF 6)

INVINCIBLE PRESENTS ATOM EVE & REX SPLODE #1 (OF 3)

I Wish majority of stuff wasn't $3.99 though...
