Comic Book Discussion Thread (Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Top Cow, IDW, Indy, etc)

That doesn't make me eager to pick up comics this week at the sake of cost.

And my pick ups this week are...

BATMAN AND ROBIN #3
BLACKEST NIGHT TITANS #1 (OF 3
)DETECTIVE COMICS #856
FLASH REBIRTH #4 (OF 6)
GOTHAM CITY SIRENS #3
GREEN LANTERN #45

Nothing, but DC. Though I went by my comic store today and picked up Rapture 1-3 and I am digging the hell out of it and it's a six part miniseries instead of an ongoing like I originally thought. Also Daredevil 500 was great, definitely the most change or evolution in a comic book character amongst Marvel.

I've always been a DC person. The few Marvel series I used to read like Spiderman and X-Men just don't hold any appeal for me anymore.

This week for me is:

Batman and Robin #3
Blackest Night: Titans #1
Detective Comics #856
Gotham City Sirens #3
Green Lantern #45
Justice Society of America #30
Superman #691
Teen Titans #74
Wednesday Comics #8
Wonder Woman #35

Wallet am cry!!

Old Man Logan is really only thing I look forward to from them since Captain America so far with the attempted resurrection of Steve Rogers is rather meh. Though Daredevil I'm curious how it'll keep going.

If you're buying a ton of books every month, I'd highly recommend using Discount Comic Book Service: http://dcbservice.com/

Everything is at least 35% off, there's no sales tax (at least in CA) and there's always monthly specials that range from 50-75% off. Shipping is a flat $5.99 no matter how many books are in your order. I've been using them for almost two years now and I've got no complaints.

The only downside is that shipments come only once a month (unless you opt for the more expensive weekly shipping), so boards tend to get a little spoiler-tastic. Also, you occasionally miss the weekly fix of going to your LCS. For me though, it's worth the ~$200 I save every month (like I said, I tend to buy a lot of comics).

Plus, whenever a shipment comes, it's like Christmas! Opening a box with 50+ comics/TPBs to read is simply awesome.

The only DC stuff I get is Vertigo. I tried to get into the DC Universe during "52" and didn't like it. The only exposure I got to the brand as a kid was Batman movies and the cartoon. I always saw DC as, "my Dad's comic book." None of the characters ever grew on me.

Incredible Herc has been a consistantly amazing book (minus the Secret Invasion tie-in.) Several more Marvel comics I look forward to every month are: Dark Avengers, Nova, Amazing Spider-Man, X-Factor, Thunderbolts, Thor, & Captian America. I may be in the minority about Spidey but I've kept up with it since Civil War and it's blossomed nicely.

And yeah, I save 40% on my monthy comics from Mail Order Comics. I get them shipped to me twice a month, bagged and boarded. I subscribe to over 40 comics and spend around $90 a month on them. Only down side is the wait for shipping, and you have to order your comics 3 months in advance. And like BigHow said it's like opening a Christmas present.

Thanks. I'll look into that. What I might do is get my most wanted ones through my LCS, and order the lesser ones through that site.

After looking into it, I honestly wouldn't save that much. I already get a discount from my LCS beecause I have a sub there. Also I pay the few dollars extra a week for the personal service I'm given. I've been going there for years, I'm on a first name basis with the owner, and he's always done right by me.

I Save 25% at my comic store and no subscription fees and hold slots. Plus yeah, they've known me for years now. It doesn't feel right buying comics elsewhere once you get that "bond."

im surprised at how great some of dcs books have been. back when i first started all i liked was batman especially during the whole knight fall saga( kights quest and knights end were kinda sad) but id always been more into marvel stuff but lately they both have some great things happening. im especially into the new batman stuff kinda cool to see everyone going on with it all but question why hasnt anyone noticed a lack of bruce wayne around?

also did bruce adopt both tim and dick ? i remember seeing somewhere that tim was using his last name. also from the titans t teen titans series both robins are always the leader which goes to show either bruce knows hwo to pick them or hes a damn good teacher.

kinda antsy to see how dark reign and blackest night will play out and what lasting changes will come from each.

Not too many for me this week..

Dark Avengers
Initiative
New Avengers
X-Force

Maybe Blackest Night: Teen Titans and Guardians of the Galaxy as well.

Kinda. Dick was basically adopted by Bruce after his parents died and became his ward. Tim was never really adopted because his father was alive up until a few years ago when he was killed in Identity Crisis. Though by then he was basically in and out of college, but Bruce supports him financially when need be like Dick Grayson whenever needed.

Also both Tim and Dick have become great leaders due both in part to Bruce and their original birth parents being strong positive role models. While Jason Todd and Damian themselves have had troubled upbringings

My pull was so huge this week though I wasn't the only one from the look of my LCS. It was packed today.

Anyway, I think Blackest Night: Titans is the best of the mini-series so far. I'm really interested in the revelations concerning
Both Doves and their lack of appearing in the emotional spectrum. Wondering if that will play a big part in upcoming events.

JSA was excellent, and the upcoming split of the team was heavily foreshadowed here. I love the JSA, they're my favorite superhero team, but I'm looking forward to the split. Two books a month, plus more time for each character.

The other stand out title this week being Detective Comics as usual. Such a gorgeous book...

He fell into a river. No one dies from simply falling into a river.

Picked up my comic books this week, but haven't read anything yet. Next week I got nothing!!!

Was a while since i read it, i thought he blew up with whatever it was he was in.

Btw, you've never heard of anyone drowning after falling in a river?

so did marvel pretty much rip off the green lantern corp idea and use that for nova? i read the latest nova and then checked out his bio on wikipedia and it comes off alot like the lantern corp.

In real life, yes. In comic books, soap operas, movies and what not, no.

I don't remember which issue of Detective Comic it was that covers him getting out of the river and running around posing as Bruce until he got into Africa.
Where Catwoman caught up with him.

The idea for Nova was very much inspired by Green Lantern. Much like Thanos was inspired by Darkseid.

i didnt notice it until i saw that recent nova comic and the similarities were too much to ignore. thanos is ok but Darkseid is definetly the shit. wonder why dc comics hasnt tried to make a decent 2d fighter like marvel as with capcom. i know they had those games for the snes and genesis way back when but itd be cool to see them make a new 2d fighter or even a 3d one.

Besides the obvious ones (Dark Knight Returns, Year One, etc.) try the recent Batman & Robin series from Grant Morrisson. It has a ton of reprints right now and the first story arc just finished. Plus the art is just gorgeous.

hes right about batman and robin is an awesome book so is batgirl but im kinda confused because i think theres a batgirl and a batwoman ? red robin is interesting but it may take a few more episodes ( books) before it gets going imo. im curious whether tim really has something solid or if hes chasing false hope.

man i cant beieve how far mugen has gotten since last time i used it sucks you have to go through all that to play something like dc vs marvel but the amount of work and effort people put into making those characters is impressive.

Batwoman is basically Detective Comics. She's an entirely different character and debuted in 52. Besides that the comic is just great, it establishes her story brought by 52 and her character. Oh and the art is easily one of the best on the market. Batgirl is her own series and basically takes on the mantle left by Barbera Gordan and Cassandra Cain (though if you've been reading Batman for the past few years, it's obvious even before opening it who the new one is). Only issue one has been released, but biggest gripe about the book is how Barbera Gordan is written (just an irritated single bitch it feels like). Red Robin my big gripes from reading the first issue was Tim Drake looks scrawny and meek, but as Red Robin he suddenly grows two sizes larger. That and I can feel the story is going to grow no where with this one since something like that seems more on the scale of the next big DC crossover.

Wooo! Nothing for me to pick up this week! Next week though I have...

ADVENTURE COMICS #2
BLACKEST NIGHT BATMAN #2
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #40
SUPERMAN WORLD OF NEW KRYPTON #7
KICK ASS #7

Marvel being bought by Disney, meh, even in the worst case scenario based on pull list it doesn't seem to effect me that much.

What's up with all the delays for Kick Ass, or is it not a dealy and the comic normally comes out once every other month.

Anyone read The Marvels Project? I missed the first issue (because I forgot about it) but it looked very interesting.

Partially Millar's fault actually. The rest is the actual Kick Ass movie and the fact John Romita Jr. is drawing the origin sequences for some of the characters is what's delaying it constantly.

any of you reading the 28 days later comic? looks liek it could be interesting Selena is , to my knowledge, the only one in it from the first film.

Light week for me too.

Magog #1
Wednesday Comics #9

Going to give Magog a go because I'm a JSA whore.

I read the one shot that was supposed to take place between the two movies. It wasn't anything special.
Anyone have any Marvel suggestions for a DC guy?
Any characters you're interested in? I could give you a list of comics I like, but I don't think that'd help you very much. Also are you looking for trades or something on-going?

On-going or trades, doesn't matter. I prefer superhero stories, and there's no particular characters I'm interested in. I more just want to get into the Marvel universe. I do tend to prefer female superheroes. I can give you DC characters/series I like, and maybe that will help?

Power Girl, Batman, Black Canary, Green Arrow, JSA, Secret Six.

Here's a couple I'll recomend but I haven't read them:
For female characters I'd say Ms. Marvel or She Hulk, Ms Marvel is still ongoing. If you like Batman then you might enjoy Brubakers run on Daredevil. It's supossed to be fantastic, some say better than Frank Millars stuff.

Now for books I've actually read:
If you just want to catch up on the Marvel U then Civil War, World War Hulk & Secret Invasion should do the job. Ellis's run on Thunderbolts is awesome (probably my favorite of recent years for both art and an amazing story) Captian America is a great espionage/war story. For sci-fi stuff then Annihlation. I've always liked Ultimate Spider-Man, it's almost like a teen drama but a fun retelling of the character, however I'm not sure about this new run, the art is just ass. Ultimates 1 & 2 are very good adult super hero stories. For comedy then Incredible Herc (especially the Love & War arc) or Nextwave Agents of Hate, both are fun comics.

There's probably more I'm forgetting.

old man logan mini series is worth checking out i like deadpool although these past 2 have been kinda blah to me but it can be a funny book. you might want to check out the original marvel zombies run and overal things are getting very interesting throughout the universe due to dark reign. hercules this past week was funny after taking a chance on this one im gonna have to grab some of the back ones to see wtf is going on.
Anyone have any Marvel suggestions for a DC guy?
Kick Ass I enjoy the hell out of. Other then that, any of the Old Man Logan is good. Destroyer was a mini-series that came out a month or two ago that was completely under the radar and came out from the Marvel Max imprint, but written by Robert Kirkman (of Walking Dead fame) and man, it's bloody good fun. Other then that, the recent Daredevil was a good read. Definitely helps put the character in new territory with each writer that takes over the reigns and this one is no different.

Just read Walking Dead #65

I hope the ending is just a fake-out cliffhanger. I don't know how comfortable I'd feel reading the adventures of a Cannibal Clan
Has anyone read any of the batman elseworlds stuff? Like the vampire trilogy or Haunted?
You mean the Red Rain/Bloodstorm/Crimson Mist trilogy? If that's the one, it's a very good trilogy, especially with what Batman does to his rogues gallery in Bloodstorm(I think it was that one).

its got to be a fake out since
they know dale was bitten and chances are the canibals are tainted too but more than that theyre not those kinds of people. i hope they kill them all and they will have to since if they let them live they will only kill other people or continue to hunt them down.

so they will either kill them , lock them up somewhere and leave them there to die and or turn on each other, or possibly cripple them and leave them somewhere.

Yes that one. Was also wondering about Haunted and maybe Superman Red Son.

Man, Daredevil: The List is a friggin rip off. Normal sized comic, but adds preview of Daredevil #601 for an extra $1. Bad enough it's got to tie in with this goddamn Dark Reign stuff now.

its a cool concept but i get the feeling whoever wrote it is a fan of angel since its
pretty much the same as when angel took over wolfram and heart.
i cant wait to see how this norman osbourne / tony stark thing will end i know why hes chasing him but i swear it sees like hes wanted a piece of him for ages. its cool to see one heros major villan taking on all heros legally and illegally more than that i cant wait to see how it will blow up in normans face. spiderman is interesting too and this month theyre finally putting out the nd to old man logan!!!!!!!
Read JLA: The Nail. The BEST Elseworlds ever IMO. Avoid the muddled sequel Another Nail.
