Comic Book Discussion Thread (Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Top Cow, IDW, Indy, etc)
After Reborn I think everyone has earned the right to be weary of where Cap is headed. No political agendas there, just bad story telling.

I Still don't understand how Red Skull became 50 feet as well.
I got finished reading the story and you guys were right. :p

I figured since Red Skull was a robot, that he used robot magic to get bigger. I thought that was cheezy though, i hate seeing anything grow to 50ft in comics.

It's pretty much the lamest ability. imo

Anyone else itching to see when Hickman's finally going to get around to blowing the lid off of Unstable Molecules? It's such a great crack for someone like him to fill in.

Note to DC, stop doing animated movies unless you can get Kevin Conroy to voice Batman, it just sounds like some cheap ripoff otherwise.

anybody know how much longer till blackest night ends? its ok and all but its kind of dragging and im a little anoyed at the sudden "fixes" they come up with for diff issues ( like guy being a red lantern or curing black lanterns). also have they set a fir date for batmans return?

Return of Bruce Wayne starts in April and Blackest Night is pretty much coming to an end right now. Brightest Day starts soon.

so did the intergalactic trucker guy from deadpool teamup have his own comic at some point? funny comic though one of the better team ups ive seen him in.

Consider this a shameless plug for any Minnesota readers of this thread.

'World of Games' is a store in Lakeville that has recently made a move into the comic and collectible figure arena. If you're in the area, stop on in, take a peek, and give a quick critique on what you think of the recent expansion.
Anyone else just done with the Deadpool variant covers? Enough already. The guy's on more covers than barcodes.
yes. i love deadpool and all but its way to much. not to mention all the diff comics series hes got. hes a cool character but it almost feels like they want to run him into the ground.
yes. i love deadpool and all but its way to much. not to mention all the diff comics series hes got. hes a cool character but it almost feels like they want to run him into the ground.
Are you implying Marvel is 'Logan-ing' Wade?

Yeah, they are.
Are you implying Marvel is 'Logan-ing' Wade?

Yeah, they are.
yep i am and they are. instead of doing that they need to take more chances on some of the other characters in the marvel universe. theres plenty of characters who could do well with their own series. or do a few one shots or 4 part series to test the waters on some people.

I just collect Deadpool's main comic which I enjoy. The recent issue with him and Spidey was fun. I tried a few issues of Merc w/ Mouth & #999 etc. They just seem like silly side stories.

Saw Planet Hulk and I enjoyed it. I liked all the little cameos. I caught Warlock, Gamora, Star-Lord, and Mentor in the background. Speaking of animated movies anyone see Crisis on Two Eaths? That's next on my Netflix queue.
Anyone else just done with the Deadpool variant covers? Enough already. The guy's on more covers than barcodes.
I'm just sick of Deadpool in general. I merely didn't like him before, but now I fucking hate him. Pisses me off that he's got like 4 on-goings, but Ms. Marvel and SWORD get canceled.

Have to agree on the Deadpool overexposure. I love a good kooky Deadpool story, but this is just way too much and can't be good for the character longterm.

I understand that Marvels: Eye of the Camera is a continuation of Marvels by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross. Didn't pick it up as I didn't care for the art.

Both Marvel and DC kill me with the characters that have multiple books out but Marvel is the worse of the two. Do I need 4 different Wolverine or Spider-Man titles while they cancel Immortal Iron Fist and other books.

When I think Marvel now I just think Punisher Franken-Castle and shake my head. Also finished the recent issue of Cap. Yup, I want to say as good as dropped because I hope it didn't sound as dumb as the previous issue led me to believe, but reading this has made me believe that indeed it is. For some reason it feels as ridiculous as that Simpsons where McBain is under attack by Commie Nazis.

Daredevil is moving at a snails pace, but am still enjoying it though.

Never saw this thread before, I just made a new topic about underground comics, not the usual Marvel/DC stuff. Any recommendations? I just finished Kick Ass which was great and finished a bunch of Fables as well. Any books like these that CAGs loved? I prefer series that are done so I can read the entire thing, but would look at ongoing stuff as well.

Y The Last Man is going to be recommended the most and it's finished so easily that. Other then that I also enjoyed Rapture, which is basically all superheroes leave Earth and the rapture happens and now two lovers are trying to get back together from it all. The ending feels a bit out of left field, but I still enjoyed it.

Thanks for reminding me of Y. I read 9/10 of it, but it wasn't done yet. Time to finish it.
Mr Unoriginal, read the Wanted series
I have...really strange at the end, especially when I was considering the movie.
I know I sound like I am shooting everything down, but we are quickly coming to the end of what I've read.

I've heard good things about The Walking Dead (right title?) but the black and white ink threw me a bit.

Also heard good things about Cerberus, anyone a fan?

Walking Dead is still ongoing though with no signs of stopping. Personally I love it and might as well jump on it before the show starts. That and the black and white fits the whole comic.

walking dead is definelty worth reading.

Just discovered this thread, coincidentally, after I finished Grant Morrision's latest Batman story arc (Batman & Son, The Black Glove, RIP, etc.) in one four hour go. Great stuff to be read there. Not sure if I could appreciate RIP as much had I not read the stories leading up it. I heard that the real conclusion to this arc is in Final Crisis, which I will be reading sometime tomorrow. I'm so geared up and ready his next run in May.

Now its time to start reading Garth Ennis' The Boys. Finished Preacher last year and am desperately needing my Ennis fix. Anyone care to recommend anything else, other than the Boys or Hellblazer, to read by Ennis?

I Liked Ennis' Punisher Max run. His Punisher in Marvel Knights felt too cartoony for my taste (though it did have the best Wolverine crossover I've ever read), but his whole Punisher Max run (both the normal series and Tyger and others) were great. Really gritty and doesn't treat the Punisher or his antagonists like simple Comic Book Code type stories.

Mr. Orginal mentioned Fables which is my favorite ongoing non-superhero comic. It took me a few volumes to get hooked but glad I kept reading.

I've recommended Locke & Key in this thread before but since we have a few newcomers I'll mention it again. It's the best comic coming out of IDW.

Finished Siege #2 finally. I enjoyed it, lots of stuff happening.
I think Crisis was the best original DC Animated film
It just seemed really cheap. I thought Batman Superman Public Enemies was good, Crisis just felt..off. I think it was the voices really.
Also heard good things about Cerberus, anyone a fan?
The title is actually Cerebus (a typo that somehow stuck). I can't say that I'm a real fan of the comic, to be honest, though it was years ago that I read four of the "phone book" compilations. So my memory may be fuzzy or I may not have been mature enough to "get it." It's definitely an indie comic through and through, which might appeal to you simply on account of that aesthetic and attitude. But I thought that its beginning as a swords-and-sorcerers adventure akin to Conan the Barbarian was a bit boring. From there it changed suddenly and drastically into a bizarre metaphysical tome on its creator's hodgepodge philosophy/religion and sociopolitical cynicism. I think it's one of those works that I respect but don't particularly like. No idea if it changed again after the point at which I stopped.

Read the first two issues of Siege the other day and I can honestly say I'm impressed for the first time with huge (or somewhat huge) Marvel storyline within the last 10 years (besides Civil War which I loved).

If Marvel hadn't allowed "Mr fucking Creative" Rick Remender to fuck up the Punisher, I'd be as happy as I could be right now.

is he responsible for the franken punisher? that story is pretty shitty.
is he responsible for the franken punisher? that story is pretty shitty.
Yes he is.
Rick Remender = Piece of shit to all Punisher fans
I refuse to buy any of those issues and instead stick with the Punisher MAX monthly comic.

The FrankenCastle storyline is worse than what the Punisher fans call "The Zombisher" story arc in 1996 where he was brought back from the dead by angels with a logo on his forehead to kill demons on Earth.
Together, the Zombisher and FrankenCastle will always remain the storylines all Punisher fans pretend never existed.

Marvel, get your shit together and pick up the pieces of Frank Castle (pun intended) and somehow put it all back together correctly again.

I have been pretty impressed with Siege so far. I like that they've almost gone with the approach that they know its just going to be an all out melee so they're only bothering having 4 issues rather than upping the issue count with fluff... My favorite moment so far was definitely in issue 2
The whole way things went down with Ares resulting in his death. I know it was the semi-cliche bad guy turns good just before dying but for some reason the art of the book just conveyed it in such a way that really made it a great little sequence

wasnt too happy with him
getting killed like that but i do hope his son gets his revenge
. sentry is too damn powerful of a character and the way he acts i think he will end up being a villian at some point.

the one thing ive liked alot in the seige is the taskmasters involvement in it. hes always been a favorite character of mine and its been cool to see him in all of this as well as learn more about him.

Atleast the Purgatory series had Bernie Wrightson drawing. This FrankenCastle doesn't even have decent art.

I think he's already pretty far down that road of being a villain.

I for one have been enjoying Siege.

It's good to see Cap, Iron Man, and Thor come back together for this.

And now i don't what to think about Sentry with the newest issue revealing more than they ever have about him. He is obvisouly very powerful, which is inconsistent to the lore behind him since Hulk did take him out already.

I am sure it will be interesting, can't wait.
I picked up Ultimate X #1. It was actually a pretty good first issue.
I think you are the only person that has said this. :p

I wasn't to thrilled with it personally.
