As long as we're admitting embarassing things, I'm enjoying 'Fall of the Hulks'

8-[
I was enjoying it until i read the end of it. :(

Not the ending i was expecting.

Now we have World War Hulks to look forward too.

Anyone ever read any of Art Spiegelman's stuff? We're reading some of Maus in my American Lit class, it's only a few pages but i like what I've read so far.
I for one have been enjoying Siege.

It's good to see Cap, Iron Man, and Thor come back together for this.

And now i don't what to think about Sentry with the newest issue revealing more than they ever have about him. He is obvisouly very powerful, which is inconsistent to the lore behind him since Hulk did take him out already.

I am sure it will be interesting, can't wait.
I dropped Siege. I got the first two, and flipped through the 3rd. I'm more than done with all Marvel except X-Men.

The Batgirl/Red Robin crossover is pretty damn good so far.
I picked up Ultimate X #1. It was actually a pretty good first issue.

I think you are the only person that has said this. :p
I wasn't to thrilled with it personally.
It wasn't that bad. I enjoyed it, but I'm unsure how much I'd enjoy the series as it continues.
i've never been into comic books but i've allways wanted to be. so where should i start out?
Such a difficult question that will get a million and one answers.
Everyone's tastes are different.
I know that's not the answer you're looking for, but it's honest.

-One thing I can suggest is going to a shop and looking at the new week/month rack. Pick up what interests you on the spot, read thru a few pages and see if you like the story/art.
-Also look for #1 issues (easy for Marvel/Image/Wildstorm/Avatar etc difficult for DC)
-Ask the comic book geeks behind the counter whether the writer is good or if it's worth your time. Most of them are highly opinionated and will give you honest answers.
-Get a highly rated comic in trade paperback form. Not only will it give you a large chunk of story at one time, but it's at a discounted rate than if you buy the individual issues (not to mention you save yourself money in storage equipment with backing boards/bags/boxes)
-Stay away from back issues until you're sucked in as an official comic book lover for life and you're ready for dedication.

What we'd need to know to suggest something for you is, what kind of movies/media/entertainment do you enjoy already?
Are you the type for realistic/supernatural/superhero/horror etc etc etc

Also keep in mind a good story will keep you coming back despite whether the art is jaw dropping or not. Don't always buy a book for it's art unless you truly appreciate it enough.

Finished Preacher. Awesome book.

I was on a Ennis & Dillion "high" after reading Preacher so I picked up Punisher: War Zone. I'm not a fan of The Punisher but I really liked it, I might start reading more.

I hate the writing in Mighty Avengers. It's very "comic book-ish", if that's even a thing. I feel like I'm reading a comic written from the 70's. Can't wait till they get rid of it. Funny cause I'm a big Quicksilver & Herc fan, so having them in the same book sounds fun, but it's not.

I picked up Ultimate X on a whim. I'm not putting it on my pull list or anything but I was surprised that I actually enjoyed it. I do like Arthur Adams' art, if anything it's worth it for that.

Just finished Blackest and holy shit. Before going into spoiler territory I got to say Corps, GL and Blackest had some of the best art in a comic that I've seen. Best of all, ALL ON TIME! The splash pages and giant spreads are just...wow.

The ending itself though kinda made me forgot what a happy ending was in comic books. For once there doesn't feel like a bleak forboding threat is looming, but instead things are changing for the better. Plus Jade's return has me oddly excited to read Corps even more after Blackest since throughout that title it was about Kyle getting over the death of her, but still knowing full well he has feeling's for her. It's one of those times where people coming back didn't make me groan, but optimistic for future stories in what's going to happen. So fuck it, best crossover in a long while.

Plus never have I been so "wow'd" to see Aquaman in a comic again.

Maybe still has his water hand under his glove? If anything Osiris surprised me the most since I don't know many who read 52. That and Ronnie. Though it's going to be interesting to see how Maxwell Lord, Parallax and Anti-Monitor are all going to play out as well.

For a non-DC reader i really enjoyed Blackest Night.

Guess i will have to keep up with Brightest Day and definitely want to keep up with that Batman upcoming series.

As noted earlier, I finished Preacher last fall and have been on an Ennis "high" ever since. I finally caught up with The Boys and, although it dragged during the Get Some story arc, I'm pretty impressed. For a series in which Ennis has himself that he is trying to top Preacher in terms of grittiness, it has definitely kept me consistently entertained.

Just recently I picked up a few "newer" issues of series I've never read before including Joe The Barbarian, Haunt, and Chew. So far each, even in their relative infancy, seem promising.

I also just read all of the current 70 issues of the Walking Dead and was wondering if Kirkman's Invincible is also worth reading.

joe the barbarian is fucking weird shit. i still cant figure out if its real or imagination.

I picked up the incredibly vague first issue because it was both Grant Morrsion and a dollar, and yet, I'm deeply compelled to finish this series. From what I've gathered,
Joe is diabetic and has given up taking his meds and therefore entering a state of lack-of-insulin shock induced fantasy.
While the first issue only hints at it
(his mother insisting on him eating his candy)
, I believe it is something that is never stated obliquely.

Sadly, my local comic book stores seem to completely disregard this as a series that they feel the need to stock. Luckily, I've just about quit the B&M stores and have since moved onto ordering from Heavy Ink to get these creator owned series into my hands.

Speaking of Heavy Ink, does anyone here order comics online? If so, what is your preferred site?

I do. I get mine from mailordercomics.com. You save around 30% - 40% on each issue. Also they carry everything. Only problem: you order your comics 3 month in advance. This sucks if I want to pick up an issue on a moments notice. But that's where the local store comes into play.

I used to get my comics from ComicFusion.com. They're a friendly group of people but MailOrderComics.com was so much cheaper and well organized. For impulse buys or back issues I go to my local store. Ya gotta support them too.

I started ordering my comics from midtowncomics.com. Since the closet comic store to me is at least a hour long drive.

I get regular shipping though, and it take a week to get my comics in. :(

The only thing that Heavy Ink has that my comic book store or the website you listed has is the ability to subscribe and forget. In my limited experience with them, you get 20% off cover and dollar shipping. They even have a feature where you can view a calender for what it is you are getting.

I use my local shops for back issues and discounted trades but sometimes they really neglect creator owned printings. In fact, I make it a point to show up every Wednesday morning to see what my local shop has in stock. Gotta shop locally.

i used to shop at this place called things from another world. they had some decent sales and discounts at times and they package things up really nice.

I can't speak highly enough about HeavyInk.com then. I receive my comics in about three to four days and never spend more than $12 for my four subscriptions.

Since I don't care about collecting and therefore don't care if I get a bent issue, I subscribe to Marvel and DC through their mail order. Make it really cheap, just got to wait a week or two to arrive.

For everything else they don't do, I go to www.dcbservice.com. 40% off most things with some being even more. $5.95 shipping monthly no matter how many trades I throw in there. I only hit a comic shop every few months to see if there's something else I should be reading. I can't afford to pay $3-$4 cover price for everything I want to read.

DCBS actually has a store here in Fort Wayne which is only a ten minute drive from my place. The only downside to them is that their in store pickup is kind of a crap shoot. Their website also suffers from irregular updating and a poor server that supports it. I've found that it is just as easy to show up in the store and pick up back issues. However, for all of my special order needs, I order online.

Anyone ever shop at Half Price Books for their comic needs?
was wondering if Kirkman's Invincible is also worth reading.
Hell fucking yes. It balances teenage angst, light hearted comedy, great characters with gruesome fight scenes perfectly. It kinda is Spider-man for new generation and each cliffhanger makes you really actually worried for the characters. Friggin great and Ottley has amazing panels and layouts.

I was just a little hesitant about reading it on first glance. Kirkman knows how to tell a story but I was worried that I'm too far behind to actually enjoy picking up current issues. Is it advised to start from the beginning?

Yeah, best to pick up the trades or hardcovers first. That or if you can, just get issue 50 and go from there because that was the jump on point for new readers with a big old "what has happened so far." Though still I started with first trade and it was alright, by the second one I was hooked and from there on it's been one of my top three favorite monthly titles.

We just got the first 7 trades in at work and I've been considering picking them up. However, just today we got All-Star Superman HC, The Killing Joke HC, and The New X-Men Ultimate Vol 1 TPB. However, as things usually go, I'm assuming that Invincible trades will get neglected. I guess you've sold me.

I am curious to what you CAG's think of all this digital comic book thing. Especially with the new ipad out, being able to read on comics on digital medium is becoming more common.

Personally i am not for it, or don't plan on using it. I rather have a physical collection with me, it's what makes collecting comics fun for me.

^ I subscribed to Marvels Digital Comics for a few months so I had something to read at work. But I read everything I wanted to so I canceled. I'd recommend it if you want to read some back issue for cheap.

From what I understand about the iPad app you pay $2 per issue. I'd rather pay a little bit more and own the actual copy. Plus how long are people going to keep this iPad? In a few years time when these things are obsolete what are you going to to with all those digital comics you paid for?

Well the marvel.com thing is a subscription based deal, which isn't to bad. Since you can read unlimited comics for a good price and still buy the physical issues. But it does seem pointless to keep paying for it when your buying the physical copies.

I believe the subscription is $19.99 a month which is a little more than the cost of a TPB. So I say check to see if they have anything you want to read, and if they do pay the first month, read everything, then cancel. Then maybe go back a year later once they've uploaded more issues and do it again.

I use HeavyInk.com and I really like it because shipping is .99 for 3+ comics. I know some places may be cheaper but I really hate ordering in advance.

comic books are an art form; which automatically translates into collectability.

try reselling digital comic books to real collectors, not gonna happen. [at least not until fallout]

this is similar to all the digital [gaming] DLC we're buying now. absolute zero resell value. I love comic books, but the digital medium [when applied to comics] is a joke. Newspapers anyone? ...and reading comics on an iPAD in public, the dude is seriously crying for attention[whore].

I now prefer to buy my comics in TPB or hardcovers [collections].

Digital comics I basically feel the same as I do about digital music, it just feels right to have the real copy in your hands. I've tried to read comic books through the computer and it just doesn't feel the same. I'll admit, the prospect of reading comics through the IPad sounds interesting, but in the end I like going to my comic shop and having a haul and sitting down to read them. It just feels like that way it was meant to be experienced.

My local store had a huge sale. All back issues 50% off as well as reduced prices for statues and toys. Picked up a Hercules bust and Machine Man bust for $5 each!!! Also goe some Astonishing X-Men issues and the entire Amazing Fantasy vol.2 for $9. And I got the entire Earth X run for $5.

Hey Rodimus, where do you go? My cousin would like to go to a good comic book store, but doesn't know where one would be. He's in Miami, so wondering if you're close down there or a little north in Ft Lauderdale. I know there are some good ones there, but none that stood out in Miami.

I live in Hollywood which is north of Miami so I wouldn't know of any stores in your cousin's area. There's two places I go. One is a smaller shop but it's only 5 minutes away.

The other place I go (and the one I'll recommend to your cousin) is Tate's comics. It's a kinda far away from Miami but well worth the trip. If you Google it I'm sure you'll find directions. In fact they won an Eisner award last year for best comic book retail store. They also advertise every month in Wizard, so yeah, they're the real deal. They have everything. I often spend an hour just looking around.

Yeah I know Tate from going to conventions in Florida. I'd always end up getting some type of coupon, but never ended up going. I always heard good things though.

I will say one bad thing: they're way too expensive when it comes to Japanese import items. $9 for a keychain!?!? $100 for a Gundam model. no wai

I read it and really enjoyed it. Jonathan Hickman is doing some really good work right now with SHIELD, his run on FF and particularly Secret Warriors. The way he fleshed out some history of SHIELD and Hydra in the early issues of SW was very interesting.

I also read the first issue of Turf from Image last week. It takes place in New York during Prohibition with the added feature of vampires being in the mix. Solid writing and Tommy Lee Edwards' pencils really fit the mood and tone of the story. It's a 5 issue limited series and I definitely recommend checking it out.

it was ok . im more excited for the new luke cage mini series. btw is wolverines kid gay or something?Daken not his clone daughter.

Hickman's FF has been great so far. Can't remember the last FF story that's been this intresting. I've been waiting for them to advance Val & Franklin's storylines. However Eaglesham's art has been inconsistent. He draws good stuff when he tries, but there's always a few panels that look plain sloppy.

I remember talking about Daken several pages back. He's Bi. He typically sleeps with people only to benifit his goals. He's got a thing for Bullseye. I'm not sure if he's genuinely attracted to him or he's just fucking with him.

i thought so outside of his constantly making gay jokes at people what
wolverine said in the recent dark wolverine
as well as his action in one of those seige comics seems like he definetly leans that way.
