Well, that was a lot of fun. I spent too much, as I'm sure many other CAGs did as well. I'd like to thank everyone who participated in this thread. :applause:

gkleinman, founder of DVDTalk, will provide details at midnight tonight (6/16). I will update this topic as more information develops. Odds are that it is this weekend, but I don't know for certain. Sorry to jump the gun and post with so little information, but I know not everyone here reads DVDTalk, and I wanted to provide a heads-up.

Anyone interested in the sale should prepare their wishlist as soon as possible. DDD slows down considerably during these sales (at least, it has in the past), so it is best to have a list of what you want before it starts.
I hate the 4400 so much it almost makes me angry every time I see another person ordering it.
Why, what's so bad about it. From the clips I've seen of it and the previews for it, it seems like not a bad show. At least the premise sounds interesting.

I'm still waiting for my orders to arrive. Placed my first order on the third day of the sale, 6/18, and my order status is complete, but I'm still waiting for it. Media Mail can suck sometimes. it might've come in today, but I haven't checked yet. then I placed another order on Wednesday since the new Yu Yu Hakusho coincided with this sale, so I decided to pick some other stuff up and my friend wanted a couple things. Ordered Blue Streak (for him) for $7.50, 2 of Da Ali G Show (he wanted one and I just plain forgot to order it), Big O II (finally), Yu Yu Hakusho Volume 31, and Harvey Birdman. My second order, which was on Wednesday, is still open, but two of my items have shipped: Da Ali G Show (both of them) and Blue Streak. The rest is backordered/out of stock. My final order came to $97 or so (coincendantally $25 even of what my friend has to pay). Overall I managed to keep my total this time to just a little above $200. Not bad if I do say so myself. And yet, my Wishlist is ever growing for the next sale.

This sale I basically bought only shows that have had all of their seasons (or close to it) on DVD and that I don't think will have bundle offers. Also got rid of a lot of $6-9 dollar DVDs and newly released ones. Tried to keep it to mostly box sets of shows I like, and to complete some anime series I have.

I would also like to thank (I'm not sure if that is the correct word for this ;)) all the CAGs and people over at DVDTalk for posting their wishlists and what they bought as it helped me find some stuff and helped make my wishlist just that much bigger. Aww till next time my friends. That's when I'll actually try to be prepared and probably really splurge.

Now who knew that DDD had pr0n. I hadn't known. I just did DDD search for random words that were coming to me, and one of them was stripper, and it brings up 2 pages with some $5.99 DVDs. Who knows if it's any good, but it's cheap. Kind of tempting for a third order, but I've spent enough, the g/f won't be any happy about it, and I'm feeling kind of lazy now. Till next sale as they say.

I got my stuff shipped on the 17th and still haven't received it yet, so I guess if you didnt place an order right away, you got stuck in the huge order and shipping mess.

Footballers wive's is like a trashy british soap opera.

I've gotten one shipment of 3 well 4 since one was backorderd and just shipped today. The one i received shipped on the 17th.

Still received none of the 7 shipments. It should only take 4 days to ship media mail from IL to NY according to USPS's site.

Well, I tried to be good, but I ended up spending another $165. First 5 seasons of Stargate, Dark City, Ultraviolet, Life is Beautiful (for a friend, at least she will pay me back for that), and The Anarchist Cookbook. The codes still work for now, last time they lasted a while into the day after the final day of the sale, but if you are thinking about placing an order, do it before it is too late.

It's 2 AM here on the East Coast and the codes are still active. I broke down and dropped another $30 bringing me to just under $300 total.

Over on DVDTalk they said that during the last sale the codes were still active until Sunday afternoon.
Fox won't release Lifeboat, for some stupid reason. fuckers :( Rope is great though.

Nice choices on the Criterions though. The '46 Killers is an awesome movie, and it's got a great essay on the disc all about film noir by Paul Schrader. The other films are masterpieces as well. You're in for a treat. :applause:
I've never seen the '46 The Killers, but I have seen the 1964 ,uh, re-adaptation (if you will). I love Don Siegel's subtle directing style (in all of his work), and I'm sure the '46 Siodmak adaptation of Hemingway's short story won't disappoint.

There were so many other Criterion Collection DVDs I wanted to get... but the restraint of money (or lack thereof) held me back. Oh, well; maybe next payday. ;)i

Ah, well, the '46 version is one of the first noirs I've seen, and the movie that made me realize how awesome Burt Lancaster was. The '64 one is decent, and Siegel did do a great job. What I love about the set is just the fact that the movies exist; that Hemingway wrote this really open-ended short story, and left it almost as a fragment of a larger story and makes you wonder what happens, or happened to the people in it. It's almost like a challenge to writers, "Hey, what can you do with this?" A reading of the story by Elliot Gould is included on the disc, as is Andrei Tarkovsky's version of the story, but that's pretty much a filmed version, as there's nothing there that wasn't in the story itself.

I understand about the restraints, I had to limit myself to only one and I decided on L'Avventura because I couldn't go another day without it. I'm definitely saving up far more for the Winter sale, because I'm a damn junkie.

For my third and final order ...
Lock 'er up.
why? that'll only lead to a few more threads being opened up on discussing the sale....just change the title and everything will be alright

I wonder what the most ordered DVD was for CAGers. From the posts that list purchases, I think I've seen a lot of orders for the American Psycho rerelease, probably since it just came out this week.

I avoided this sale last time around and finally gave in last night with only hours to spare.

Merchandise Total: $ 197.54

It pains me to spend so much in one sitting, but it's not too bad considering the weekly ad deals that have been seriously lacking for the past couple months. Seeing that others have dropped over a grand on this sale, I feel a little more comfortable with my purchase.

I didn't read the whole thread, but I did see a lot of orders for Firefly.

I'm with you on that one... American Psycho KCE was easily the most ordered item during this sale, not to mention the fastest seller; released on 6/21 and sold out by 6/22.

I spent roughly $55 dollars. I managed to get Kurosawa's Ran yesterday (although its on backorder).

If it ships on my next credit card billing cycle - that would be better for me.

My first and only order was placed yesterday:

ANGER MANAGEMENT (SE) (WS) $7.53
SHAUN OF THE DEAD $11.19
GREASE (FULL SCREEN) $7.48
AMERICAN HISTORY X $9.50
PULP FICTION (COLLECTOR'S EDITION) $11.04
RESERVOIR DOGS (SE) $7.42
THE BIG LEBOWSKI $7.91
GEORGE CARLIN-COMPLAINTS & GREVIAN $11.52
LEWIS BLACK-BLACK ON BROADWAY $10.60
LEWIS BLACK-UNLEASHED $7.20
Your Total: $91.39
The promotional discount on this order was: $22.89

Grease and American History X are for my sister, but I'll watch them, probably more than she will. I had a lot of stuff I wanted. It reached around $290, but I figured since I had to order tickets to a concert for my friends and I (even though they will pay me their fair share), I didn't want to charge so much onto my mom's credit card. I'll most likely drop big bucks when the sale rolls around again in Decemember.

Still waiting on my first order. Checked the mail today in the morning and still nothing. If I'm right by my count and the Post Office, that should have been day 7, possibly 8 if I were a day off.

Edit: Man this sale must be bogging them down, but who can blame them. a 2300 page thread over at DVDTalk, a 170 page thread a SD.net, who knows how big at FW, and a 600 or so page thread here, and this is not including the other sites I have mentioned. That's a lot of orders, even if everybody did double or triple posting.

At this point, I don't want to say I"m worried as I have ordered from DDD, but I'm starting to be just a little concerned especially since my first order was during the first parts of the sale. The waiting game has started I guess. The wait is worse than not knowing when/if there will be a DDD sale, especially since I really want to see these movies and give the ones that need giving.

I haven't read the recent posts, but I think the item/s to sell out the quickest were American Psycho and Yu Yu Hakusho Volume 31. I tried to order that on the day it came out and it was already on backorder.
ive seen a lot of the following:

4400
firefly
home movies
dead zone
entourage
stargate

but maybe those are just ones that i took notice to
I saw a lot of people talking about buying these, but not a lot actually buying. Did see lots of orders for Firefly, including my own. I also ordered Dead Zone, but put off buying Stargate and 4400 until the next time around.

I think the most purchased stuff were the anime sets, although i wouldnt know the first thing about those.

I placed one final last minute order just before 2am ...

THE PERFECT SCORE (WS) BACKORDER 1 $7.48 0 ~07/06/05 N/A
HORSE WHISPERER IN PROCESS 1 $7.48 0 N/A N/A
SLING BLADE (CE) IN PROCESS 1 $11.10 0 N/A N/A
EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS (WS) IN PROCESS 1 $7.20 0 N/A N/A
FOUR ROOMS BACKORDER 1 $7.48 0 ~07/06/05 N/A

Shipping: $0.00
Order Total: $40.74

What can I say, I have a weakness for Scarlett.

Just looked at my second order's current status again, and Yu Yu Hakousho Volume 31 seems to have changed its status from backorder to preorder, but I still have the discount counted for it making it 11.99 instead of 14.99. Kind of strange. And now Harvey Birdman is slated for 7/02/05 to be shipped, but I just want my first order now.

I was wondering if the '46 The Killers that you and Modium were speaking of were based on Hemingway's short story of the same name. It's probably my favorite short story of his. Had I known this earlier, then I probably would have order this as well. Adding it to my wishlist now.

Edit: Do you have a link by any chance to the movie at DDD? I can't seem to find it.

I ordered on day one of the sale, and they sent me an email stating ALL of my items (9 dvds) shipped that day. I am still waiting for them. For free shipping, it's ok, but this is the slowest that I have experienced from them. I would come home EVERYDAY after work last week and open the mailbox...nothing. Oh well..it's just SAD when you don't get mail...lol

I ordered late on the third day, and recieved an order confirmation and shipping confirmation on the next day. This is my seventh day and I'm still waiting for my items to come in. For free shipping I guess this is alright. Hopefully tomorrow it will arrive.

Thanks to news of the upcoming $10 clearance at CircuitCity, I decided to pass on the DDD sale.

I don't quite think it will "save" me any money....

Come next sale, I'll have more money (just started my job). I can't wait. Looking forword to picking up some movies I wanted but didn't have the money for. I think I'll make a wishlist on there.

Free shipping is 5-10 bussiness days. And also note that this is a big sale so they have a lot of shipping to do.

D'oh, Subby beat me to it! Yeah, this is an awesome set. Like I said in an earlier post, it's got 3 films based on the Hemingway short story; a short film Andrei Tarkovsky did in film school, which is pretty much the short story as is, Siodmak's '46 film version, which uses the short story as a launching pad for a great film noir, and Don Siegel's '64 version which keeps the basic premise, but changes quite a bit about the story. Although different, they're all very good, and there's an extensive amount of extras, including a great essay on film noir by Paul Schrader and a reading of the story by Elliot Gould. A great set, for a great story. :D

And since I'm already wasting people's time I may as well ask another... what exactly is the "Criterion Collection" and why are those DVDs so sought after? I came across a few of those when browsing DDD and I noticed a lot of people here talking about them. They looked sort of like deluxe editions of a bunch of unrelated movies from what I could tell.
