Demon's Souls - Atlus & From Software's Action RPG - October 6
NO, you can't kill Maiden in Black in the Nexus. I slashed her by accident and one shoted her. She just resurrects and says she is bound to the NEXUS and you cannot kill her.

I beat it at level 85-90... I would definitely level up some as NG+ is hard as hell.
Noir, I still want to borrow those weapons from you - they probably aren't my last ones though so I'll look at what else I need to get and if there are any you have maybe we could just do them all at once to make sure the trophy unlocks. I need to get back in to this game and get that platinum. If I can get the stuff from you then all I need are the spells from playthrough #3. I'm still right at the end of #2 now.

Maybe tomorrow night?

I'm all for it, but tomorrow night won't work. Have a TON of stuff to do tomorrow, most of it not fun. But any day after that should be OK.

So I get my envelope and package it all up. Two address labels one from the atlus printout and one from the paypal shipping label... drop it in the box on 12/14 with DC... still not showing up in USPS as even scanned... just electronically notified..

Man is it going to really suck if I ripped the front cover off my book, did it correctly and somehow my huge yellow envelope got lost.
Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but they are shifting world tendencies to pure white from December 21st until the 28th.
Figures - it seemed like the obvious thing for them to do after the black WT over Halloween weekend. I'm not sure there's anything I can do with this at this point though. I could kill Miralda maybe ;).

Noir - no problem. I think I'm getting roped into setting up a Christmas tree Friday night anyway.

Yup, Demon's Souls Pure White Tendency Event starts on 12/21 (Mon) at approx. 12pm PST and runs until roughly the same time on 12/28!

What is the event about that you are talking about?

Also, can someone explain how to summon someone into my game? I really suck at the tower knight, and hoping that someone could beat it for me! :p Or how would I summon into someones game to get my dead body back?

to summon you need to be human form..

To get summoned you need to be in spirit form and drop the blue stone. its infinite uses.

I have never asked for assistance so i have no idea what color the stone is you ask for help.. white?

I think black allows you to invade.

Read the book. When you hit select or whatever and look at the world (columns representing teh levels) the colors change... brighter is white tendancy thats when some demons lose strength, drop less, etc. Also this game shifts with the world tendancy shifts to one color or another... so some things only happen in white world tendancy.

Check the demon souls wiki, and read through these pages of info in this thread. Its all there.

Just started my first play through earlier this afternoon. Jesus is this game hard. I got owned by that first tutorial boss. He just one shotted me and I went down like a sack of shit. I'm starting to kind of get the hang of the way battles are fought and the pacing of the game though.

I'm at the part now where I come up to a large bridge and that dragon comes flying out and breathes fire all over the bridge. Not really sure what I'm supposed to be doing here. Every time I try to cross, he flies out and spits fire everywhere. If I take the other path (the one that is before the bridge, to the left), he appears to be laying at the end of it just waiting for me to come out.

Just
wait til he comes out and breathes fire... and run behind him to make it to the other side
. Or you could wait until pure white WT starting Monday... I think it won't be there then!

I just got the game. Haven't touched it yet.(early gift) I think I can wait until the 21st to play... Class recommendations(best/easiest)?

I hear the Royal is the best starting class, although I think Temple Knight is a good starting class as well.

The Royal is pretty much considered the easiest starting class, because you start with an MP regen ring, as well as a starting circlet and wand that give you more MP. On top of that, you start with a great spell (Soul Arrow). I started as one and the game felt perhaps a bit too easy.

It's not that big an issue though. This quote on the Demon's Souls wiki sums it up nicely: You can eventually upgrade your stats in such a way that you are able to use any type of weapon, armor, or magic. You can invest your stats however, though be noted that it can take a bit.

The biggest restriction I've seen is gender, as you can only equip certain armor if you're male or female. For instance, the Silver Bracelet (10% more souls gained from kills) is female only, while Dark Silver Armor is male only.

great....I'm out of town until Tuesday and they are starting the event tomorrow....and I just started my NG+ and beat 1-1. I need to run through 4 to get most of the items...the sword on 4-2 and the one with at the Dragon God....ugh...that's some work to go through. A few other things on the list....but those are the main ones.

I'll try and resume playing tomorrow. Does the DS server keep the WT constant during the time of the event, or can you still change it in your own game? I didn't really play online during the Pure Black event (I sync'd once, messed around for a bit, but then went back to offline), so just wondering if I fuck up next week if I'll lose/change WT in my own game.

I was wondering that myself. I actually started during the Pure Black (great decision there :p) so didn't get to see, but this time around it looks like I'll be going after King Doran sometime soon (next day or so) and don't want my WT to drop from PW to Neutral for the rest of the dang event.

Edit: Thanks ChibiJosh. Didn't actually know about the Nexus syncing stuff either, so double thanks for that.

The only time WT is updated is when you go to the nexus. So, if you do something to change WT, it'll stay pure white unless you exit to the nexus and then it will change. But, if you quit the game and restart, it'll resynch with the server become to pure white again.

Ok thanks. I messed up 'cause I forgot Miralda's axe only drops w/PB WT. I also stupidly picked up the Brushwood armor when I didn't have enough Equip burden, so it's gone now. :( I'm cool with the PFS, but it would've been nice to have the armor set available if I really wanted it. I'll have to get it again in another playthrough.

Just let...
Bior die if you have not yet killed the blue dragon. He gets roasted and you can pick up his set if you haven't gotten that far. Of course you have to save him first.

It's times why I always carry a Ring of Herculean Strength. If the archstone isn't too far away, you grab what you want, then head back and unload it. Only time I've been hesitant about doing that is in 2-2 when I needed to go back there but refused to fight those damned bearbugs.

And I know I'm basically a newb in DS in the grand scheme (on my first NG+) but holy bejesus Allant has a lot more hp. I beat him on the 6th or 7th try, though each time I had the assistance of at least 1 blue phantom. I can't imagine how long it would take me to beat that guy solo unless you had a magic or strength stat up the wazoo.

Got Makoto and Keel Smasher during the event but no way am I going to world 5 until I level up about fifty more times. Christ I hate that level.

I haven't really played this much since I got Dissidia for the PSP. I'm looking at sending my cover for my guide in. Unfortunately, the wear mainly appears on the spine and not the cover. I hope they'll still send me a new one. I wonder if I should include a picture of the spine?

Ah frak it! I forgot I had the Ring of Herculean Strength on me!

Whelp, I fucked up on that one. Hate to have to
let Biorr bite it
just to get that armor, but I guess I can do that or just do another playthrough.

Last night I saved Sage Freke, but I wasted so much time because I got turned around and ended up wandering around 3-1 looking for his cell most of the night. >_<

One weird thing that happened was that when I got back to the Nexus to visit Freke, I walked over the steps where the archstones are thinking it would be a short cut, but I ended up walking on top of Freke's head. He immediately stood up and spoke as if I attacked him. Needless to say I was shitting bricks right there (being a magic user and all), but luckily I was able to force quit out of the game and reload without him permanently aggro'd. I was able to pick up Warding, but damn talk about almost screwing the pooch right there....

Actually, he wouldn't've actually attacked you for doing that because I stepped on his head the first time too, and he just stands up and yells then he's fine.

Lol, who hasn't stepped on his head at least once? Such bad placement for an NPC, especially since you don't know he's there after rescuing him.

I thought if you landed on someone it makes them hostile... maybe if it is from a certain height... maybe not. Either way, that would have sucked if he was permanently hostile!

I just got this game 2 days ago, and I'm playing as a female royal, but so far it's not really hard at all. I beat the Tower Knight on my first try, and now I can't go farther because I gotta kill an Archdemon?(where is that?)

I hope the game gets harder soon, maybe World 1 is just easy, especially during this white tendency event.

Uh, I hope that's not an issue because I just sent mine in and it looks fine too. I don't think that's an issue, really. The spine on mine is also the part having the issue.

just in case this is an issue, i made a big white mark on the cover with my finger before mailing it away.

Well, now they're DEFINITELY not going to touch it.

This makes no sense... as mine had a big white mark on the cover... from my finger... from regular use. This was the issue and why the program exists.

See. He was making a crude joke where the "white mark" was, in fact, semen. Quite low brow.

An archdemon is a demon at the end of a word. Go beat world 2, 3, 4 or 5.

Ah. Sometimes these jokes go right by me... :applause:

Go do 4-1 and 5-1 right now.

Just got a text message from a friend (and watched a little of the video after going there): apparently this got Game of the Year over at GameSpot.

There goes my theory that Uncharted 2 was going to sweep GotY awards (seems just unique enough to get it, while I figured most gaming sites would try to avoid the typical MW2 awarding), though I do think DS deserves basically all the praise it gets. I know online gaming sites aren't as mainstream as, say, the VGA awards, but definitely more mainstream than the majority of Demon's Souls demographic.

I had a few minor issues, mainly with R3 (it turned me around sometimes when I tried to lock on, causing me to die as a result most of the time) and the fact that you couldn't toggle offline mode. However, the game just manages to make me feel like I actually accomplish something when I beat a boss, and that feeling trumps my minor quibbles. I've only fought him three times, but every time fighting Allant I found that I was actually shaking afterward.

Edit: Looked through their other awards, and I guess I might have seen it coming if I actually followed anything at GameSpot. Demon's Souls also won RPG of the year and PS3 game of the year over there for their genre and platform specific rewards, respectively. In other words, it had already beaten Uncharted 2 on its home territory, so it seemed fairly reasonable for it to beat it again overall.

I didn't really think there was anything special about Demon Souls gameplay but the online interactivity is genius. Congrats to Atlus... I'm sure they'll bombard us with emails since they actually have a game which won a GotY.

Uncharted 2 already won 5 GotYs (X-Play, VGAs, Yahoo, AP, and Destructiod) and AA won one (GamesRadar). This was a great year for games so it's not hard to believe that Uncharted 2 isn't going to sweep the awards...

True - I still have little doubt that Uncharted 2 is going to take the lion's share (largely so) of awards, with a sprinkling of Modern Warfare 2 here and there. I was just surprised to see a game that lacks the mass appeal of Uncharted (and ESPECIALLY Modern Warfare 2) be so recognized by a mainstream site, especially with the online centric nature of a majority of gaming's audience today.

Anyway, my ranting aside: kudos to Demon's Souls, coming out in a year packed with a lot of stand-out games, and managing to hold its own and then some.

This is a dumb question but I just killed Miralda. If I went back to that area(I missed something) I shouldn't have to fight her again right?

Not until you start a new game. Named NPCs stay dead. Now go and grab your Colorless Demon's Soul and miscellaneous Brushwood stuff!
I didn't really think there was anything special about Demon Souls gameplay but the online interactivity is genius. Congrats to From Software...
Fixed. Remember, From Software developed it, and Atlus just published it to the west.
Fixed. Remember, From Software developed it, and Atlus just published it to the west.
Congrats to both is my sentiment. As well as Sony for another exclusive that won a GotY. :D

Not to mention Sony published the game in Japan.

She appears there at both pure white and pure black, so if you beat her when it's pure white, she will reappear when it's pure black, and she'll have a different drop.

I just started this game and beat the first boss (Phalanx). So far its not too bad, but I waisted my health items on my first couple attempts against the boss, since I had no idea what I was doing. I then easily beat him, but my sword broke during the battle making it take even longer. I think I will be consulting some guides to make the game experience go a little smoother.

I just started this game, and I must say, I LOVE it.

Maybe it's just because all the really popular RPGs I tend to play these days have the "click and watch your character fight while you navigate menus" type of gameplay. (World of Warcraft, FF12). Those tend to get old quickly, and I give up most of the time after 4 or 5 hours of gameplay.

I love the difficulty. Killing is satisfying.

Maybe I'm just happy because I have yet to reach any truely diffcult spots, mostly thanks to a few well placed hints.

Looking forward to playing more! Poor Ratchet and Clank hasn't even had a chance to show me what its got...

I got started a little while ago. The game is great but wow is it hard. I lost well over 3k XP due to a little slip up when the phone rang and I tried to pick it up while walking some planks in 5-1. Then yesterday I played while I was a little sleepy and walked off the edge of another place. It reminds me of an MMO in that you cant pause it and you have to hide your body while you go take a piss or what not. Also these bastages who leave misleading signs can go to hell. I puzzled over one for a long time thinking it was trying to tell me how to get down to a set of souls for some nice XP. I kept trying to drop down but dieing thinking I was landing long.
