Destiny (PS3/PS4) Official Thread

You should have came when I asked snake!

Helped my friend get his Nightfall.

Funny thing is I told him its a guarantee legendary but he got 8 shards instead lol, I told him that was like 2 1/2 legendaries in materials and he just raged aha
I've seen up to 11 Shards before. Also, you CAN receive a Legendary Engram. When I did it with a friend, that's what he received and of course turned out blue. He basically didn't get shit for the Nightfall this week outside of the usual 500 rep reward and the usual bonuses.

I am loving this event right now because we get guaranteed Legendaries which comparatively arent that great for me since I have all Legendary gear already but that means that is two Ascendant Shards each mission! Just an upgrade or so away from 28 now because of all these shards!

Also I finally scored a legendary Machine Gun and I am digging it. I usually have been focusing on rockets for my heavy but now especially in PvP I feel like a single Heavy Ammo Drop for a machine gun has a much higher potential to kill more people than just a rocket. Usually best I get with a single heavy ammo pickup for rockets is like 4 kills MAX whereas I am now getting 4 kills easily with the machine gun!

anyone find/hear of primary weapons with elemental damage that is not a unique or vault of glass drop?

I have a really nice primary but its only good on certain situations and no elemental damage, wondering if I should spend the resouces to fully upgrade it.  If there is a primary with elemental damage I would rather find and upgrade that.

In the end you should have a primary with EVERY type so you can just swap between in various situations. I have been by playing with the fact that if I have it and it is good and legendary, level it up.

I know that but that not what I asked. I am asking about elemental damge specifically on primaries that are not unique or vault of glass drops.

To my knowledge you can get primary weapons with elemental damage through standard Legendaries. I thought my friend did the other night but I could be wrong.

MG's have been the better of the two since the Beta. :) In Alpha, RL's were king because of the short Interceptor spawn rate. Now, I feel as if they are just novelty for "boom." Anyway, it's great that you received an MG since Iron Banner, if the Beta was anything to go by, had a few MG related bounties.

I always knew they were better but always had more fun with rockets hahah But yeah now finally being forced to with a Legendary I am accepting it can be fun too : P

Sheesh.  Got my 3rd exotic bounty and I don't really care to do either of the choices it gives me.  I either pick one where I have to get 500 void points in PVP (5 pts per kill, but you lose 2 points every time you die), or play a match where I have 25 more kills than deaths (which for me would be pretty much impossible).

Patch Notes:

Summary
In Hotfix 5, we made a few changes to reduce the effectiveness of a humbling number of economy exploits. Check out these Destiny Dev Notes to read a summary of our impressions since launch.

Activities

Missions
  • Reduced drop rate of engrams following a hard wipe [fixed in 1.0.1.4]

Queen's Wrath Event
  • Material rewards for dismantling Queen's Wrath gear will no longer provide ascendant materials, but missions will continue to drop Legendary items

World

Destinations
  • The Hive of the holy “Treasure Cave” have realized the futility of their endless assault on Skywatch and have retired to lick their wounds and plan their next attack.
  • Respawn timers for monster caves in Skywatch have been normalized to 40 seconds (increased from 6)
  • Respawn timers for monster caves in Forgotten Shore have been normalized to 40 seconds (increased from 10)
  • Respawn timers for monster caves in Ember Caves have been normalized to 40 seconds (increased from 10)
  • Respawn timers for monster caves in the Shattered Coast have been normalized to 40 seconds (increased from 10)
  • Respawn timers for monster caves in the Barrens have been normalized to 40 seconds (increased from 20)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I have been so busy the past two days I didnt get to do many of the Queens missions but I was so stoked to do a ton tonight to dismantle all that to get Ascendant material. DAMMIT. Ugh, crap.

Now I really dont care about this event as much. The rewards dont seem all that great.

Isn't it annoying how more than 1/2 of the available material in this game requires a Fireteam? Why can't everything be either fireteam or matchmaking. Some of us don't have friends that play at fucking 4am like my schedule allows

The 25 more kills than deaths sounds impossible but its actually misleading

The kills you get for that challenge go across multiple games, not just one so lets say you get 10 kills but die 3 times, on the challenge bar, you would have 7 kills out of 25, it actually isn't that hard

The dev notes are definitely worth a read as well:

On September 9th the Bungie team traded late nights building Destiny for late nights playing Destiny with all of you. We'd looked forward to that day for years, knowing that it would bring millions of fresh eyes into our world and quickly change many of our plans and priorities. We were not disappointed.

In the last two weeks there have been many surprises, bugs, exploits, world firsts, and a whole lot of fun. It's been an amazing time. We think now is a great time to step back and let you all know how we think the game is holding up and to talk about some changes we are contemplating going forward.

We will be patching some of these issues as early as today. Others may not be addressed for a month or two. Stay tuned for updates and thank you for all your feedback online.

Loot

He Who Shall Not Be Named
Long ago during development, the Cryptarch decoded engrams of a given color into gear of that same color. Early in 2014 we added randomness, both for better and worse, to the decrypting process. The result was that end-of-session engram decoding got a lot more exciting and the Cryptarch himself suddenly acquired a personality. Both of these experiences were positive additions to the game.

But we didn't adequately communicate the potential random outcomes of decryption. Players see what looks like the familiar metaphor of item identification, while the Cryptarch thinks he's opening a grab bag of loot. Rage sharding of blues ensues. Expect to see changes to address this soon.

Destiny: The Cave
The social experience of a cave farming run is amazing: the herding to get a team of Guardians all behind the line and firing in the right direction, the rush to grab the loot, the scramble when the panic wave starts, the beckoning glow from inside the cave. The speed at which the community organized around this activity was inspiring and humbling to us.

But shooting at a black hole for hours on end isn't our dream for how Destiny is played. Our hope is that social engagement in public spaces is only one part of the Destiny experience. Expect changes soon which decrease the efficiency of cave farming and correspondingly increase engram drops from completing activities.

Reward Celebration
Growing more powerful by acquiring new upgrades, gear or progression is central to Destiny's player experience. Our goal is to always celebrate when this occurs, both as a reward in and of itself and to communicate to players what is going on.

During development we sometimes prioritized making a system functional over celebrating its rewards, for example:
  • The Vault of Glass contains highly coveted loot but the actual moment of reward happens without fanfare and can be easily missed.
  • The lowest level of the Daily Heroic gives great XP and Reputation rewards, but neither of these progressions appears on the postgame screen.

We will slowly be addressing these and other issues going forward.

Social

Voice Communication
Our vision for Destiny is that all players, even matchmade players in the Crucible, Strikes, the Tower or public spaces, be able to communicate with one another in a way that promotes positive socialization. Voice communication is the easy answer, but existing voice paradigms, including those in our own Halo games, have not done enough to protect players from abusive griefing from a minority of players.

Destiny's near-term solution will be to allow players to opt-in to voice communication during matchmade activities. Work on this feature was underway at launch and should be rolled out this year in Strikes and the Crucible.

Activities

Strikes
Strikes are intended to be a fun, combat-filled romp and stomp with a big boss and cool rewards at the end. Better with cooperation, but doable in a pick up group.

Since launch we've tracked down an issue which has made Strikes more challenging than originally designed by both increasing damage taken by players and decreasing the damage inflicted by players on the boss. Expect to see this addressed soon, and for Strikes to become a little less grindy as a result (sorry, Raiders - incoming damage is working as intended in the Vault of Glass).

Balance

Our goal when balancing Destiny is to never have one player choice-- for example a choice of class or weapon-- either be so much better than the alternatives that it is the only valid choice or to be so much worse that it would always be a mistake to choose. When we are successful with this kind of balance the result is a wide set of equally compelling player builds, some of which may be preferred by one player or another but none of which is an absolute right or wrong choice.

Exotic Weapons
Exotic Weapons are designed to look, feel and sound overpowered, but to not actually break the game. We hope these weapons challenge the way players think about their loadouts and expect their idiosyncrasies to sometimes be a little frustrating. We find ourselves wanting to collect them all and hope players feel the same way.

Not all our Exotic Weapons currently live up to this promise. In particular those weapons received from completing exotic bounties including Thorn and Bad Juju have disappointed many of us who have gone through the great effort to obtain them because, despite looking and sounding amazing, they feel underpowered. We're here to offer some advice: don't shard those guns. Their time will come.

Auto Rifles
The Auto Rifle archetype is designed to appeal to players who like to throw up a wall of bullets and not worry if a few miss their target. It is intended to inflict sustained damage at close to medium range, but to lose effectiveness at longer ranges.

Today the Auto Rifle is too effective at long range, even beating Scout and Pulse Rifles in some circumstances. Expect stability and/or damage adjustments to the Auto Rifle to address this in the weeks ahead.

Scout Rifles
Scout Rifles are for players who like to keep their enemies at medium range and hate to miss. They are intended to be an awkward weapon to use at close range but to be dominant-- as long as you land your shots-- at medium and longer ranges.

Scouts just aren't hitting hard enough today when compared to other precision weapons. We'll be addressing this soon.

Shotguns
Shotguns are for those situations where you need to deliver a massive spike of damage, right now, to the thing standing next to you about to do you harm.

Today shotguns are effective beyond their intended range, especially when upgraded with that intention. Expect changes soon to address shotguns which push the envelope of what it means to be close quarters.

Thank you for helping us drive these changes. Keep sharing. Keep talking. We’re watching and listening.

What kind of rewards can you get from Nightfall strike? I completed my first one solo and got ascendant energy. I heard people getting exotic gear .. =(

if youre still doing strikes tonight. Willm go online around 9pm pst. Im also trying to get that exotic handgun under my belt. Hehe!

Milked the loot cave for a good week i think. 2 hour sessions. Only got 3 legendaries. 2 of them are for another class. Did get alot of blues which got my cryptarch to levl 11 i think.

I loved that place considering theres also 2 public events in the same vicinity as well as the random spawn of high level hives in the room next to snipe spot.

Good while it lasted. Time to continue with the story and do some strikes now.

Loot Cave isn't a big deal honestly. Moon mission was a little better with the amount of kills over time. You just can't really share the loot with others or let others do the work for you.

Nice to see that they'll be nerfing Auto Rifles & Shotgun ranges soon. Also buffing a Scout Rifles damage and some Exotic weapons like Bad Juju. Glad they're finally adding opt-in communication too. And what the heck are they talking about with Strikes?

They should have just nerfed it to 1 Ascendent Material for the dismantling of that equipment honestly. Outside of the chance of getting a Legendary Weapon, this event is entirely useless to anybody who did enough rep/mark gains to actually buy equipment over two weeks. Farming Ascendent Material is a colossal pain in the ass.

Sheesh, never even tried the loot cave.  Figured to give it a try after the Queen's Wrath event.  Good Grief. I do like the explanation of "Destiny" isn't about shooting into a hole

At least it sounds like scout rifles might become relevant and shottys won't be sniping me from across the room.

Got up to Lvl 21 last night and have been busy doing Queen bounties.  Funny how I hit 20 and all this armor with light 'butes started rolling in.

YES!

I would have been bummed by bringing it to only 1 Ascendant piece but at least it would be better than nothing. Because yeah this event is clearly geared for people who havent been playing a ton and are not able to play catch up with everyone already with full Legendary gear and their Faction at Rank 3+ and able to buy weapons and stuff.

Bah. Plus I hate when they change an event like that. I totally understand changing the loot cave and stuff because that was assumed to happen soon anyway but like I started the event and have been really busy and planned however that I could still get all that stuff later. but no they change the rules after it starts and I always hate that.

Mmm, well I only did the loot cave once, should have done it more just to level other characters. The grinding in this game is just sooooo much at some point. Bungie I have a life too ya know  :oldman:

At least theyre doing something about Engrams. I think.
That will be nice to have a higher chance of getting a Legendary from a Legendary Engram. I'm not asking for a huge boost since the game isn't random like Borderlands or Diablo 3 and has a LOT less loot to get, but something that makes it a little less annoying. Tired of turning in engrams and getting a Legendary item maybe 10% of the time with my current luck. I think 25% to 33% chance would be fine or a system in place that if you get screwed X amount of times, you have a higher chance at getting a Legendary that resets after obtaining one.

EDIT: Weird, did a double-post above and below mars009. One disappeared after a refresh.

Yah. At the moment. Bad juju is just crap. It only looks cool. Maybe if it had a more bigger magazine I might like it more. I dont like to reload after 5 bursts. >.>

That's kind of a shame about the loot cave but understandable. I actually came across a few CAGs there on occasion, although it is just shooting into a dark hole without much interaction. If they can fix and improve the engram chance rate then I don't mind the loss of the cave. I was spending far too much time there trying to get rare fusion rifles so I could finally satisfy that exotic weapon bounty. :wall:

My parting gift from the cave (RIP) last night was the lone legendary engram that dropped turned into my 2nd exotic weapon:

Et_DSUmp.jpg

I haven't used it very much yet but it's a pretty satisfying machine gun to fire. :twoguns:

So I know it was asked but has this update gone into effect yet? I will be back home from work in 2 hours and so I will rush to get a couple more legendaries from her kill missions if I can still dismantle them for Ascendant material!

Also if it has already been kicked into gear, do you get anything besides a few glimmer from dismantling that gear then or what?

I thought that might be related, but wasn't particularly clear. I wonder how long that timer is.

Yeah, I only got one legenedary item from the cave in probably 4 or 5 hours. But the key thing was levelling up my Cryptarch with all the blues. And I got in on several Warsat events while doing it as well.

In those notes they say the engrams have a chance of being higher (with blues I suppose). Has ANYONE ever got a legendary from a blue? Either that is broken or such low odds it might as well not even exist. Given how many blues I decoded because of the loot cave, you'd think I might have gotten one better item at least. And yet my legendary engrams are more often than not blues (something like 75-85% of the time, actually - even at a pretty high Cryptarch level).

I saved up some legendaries for my last Cryptacrh level upgrade and from 5 of them got the following: blue weapon, blue helmet, 3 coins (from one), a purple gauntlet for a different class, and finally a purple mark (decoration) for my own class. And that was a much more successful trip than I had ever had before. I think from 8 or 9 other purple engrams I had gotten exactly one purple thing before (and fortunately it was a Pulse rifle which I have been using ever since).

Thats not a bad idea. Since im gona do strikes now might just buy legendary gears from the vanguard.

On a side note... I joined some cags on doing the queens wrath on release day and did not get any legendaries. I think we finished 2. At first maybe coz i joined late bur when we finished the 2nd. I still sidnt get anything. Was it maybe coz i didnt have the orders yet? Grrr! Had a bad taste in my month that i did not pursue the event more. Now they nerf the materials for dismantling. Oh well.

Yeah, you only get loot if you have Queen's Orders in your inventory.

so glad i didnt buy into this overhyped grindfest
A grindfest it is. Im not a fan of doing the same thing over and over and there's just not enough content right now to keep me interested. Im trading it in this Saturday at BB, maybe down the line it will get better when they release more expansions.

Edit:

Angry Joe's review is spot on with a lot of issues this game has

I'm also probably trading it in. I understand it's a new game, but there just isn't enough variety of things to do. If the crucible was good, that would be more than enough to keep me playing, but there are too many rage inducing ways to die, not to mention a lot of the maps are terrible and have flawed designs when playing Control. I will say that I was definitely addicted to getting new gear and put a lot of hours into this game over the last 2 weeks mostly just trying to upgrade gear, but what I wanted from this game in the end was good PVP and that part of the game just isn't good enough. I wasn't one of those people who overhyped the game either. I wasn't even planning on picking it up, but I was buying the white PS4 anyway, so I gave it a try and ended up getting addicted for a couple weeks.
