E3 2011: MS edition. Halo 4 and others on the way.
And it looked like that woman was trying to cipher through all the negative to find some positives in the posts on facebook.
I felt douche chills.
That's ijustine from youtube. The girl who was too dumb to figure out Portal 2.

So fucking hyped for Skyrim right now. Completely unscripted real time dragon battles who souls and powers are absorbed into my character afterward ala Highlander immortals? Instant erection.
I don't want to start an 'us vs. them' thing, but honestly, E3 isn't about us anymore. The era of E3 being home to ALL the big game announcements and surprises is over. Even then, we are usually acutely aware of stuff before it happens anyway. Whether you give a shit or not, Halo 4 and a new Nintendo console would've been HUGE announcements had they actually been kept secret before E3.

I also don't like this weird thing that seems to be happening, where E3 is this weird barometer of 'which company gets my business this year'. I've been excited about stuff on the 360 and PS3 this year for months and months before E3, so nothing is really going to change much. Honestly think about which games you're excited about in 2011 and realize that most of them probably weren't part of an E3 conference or, even if they were, weren't surprise announcements. I don't look at MS, Sony, or Nintendo to 'win me over' for the next year. This isn't some subscription that I have to re-up every year with all of it riding on E3.

I wasn't a big fan of the MS conference, but I also recognize that I wasn't the target audience for it. I will also say that, even if I abhor motion controls, I applaud Microsoft for having the balls to *really* put themselves behind Kinect for the upcoming year. Gimmick or not, it seems to have Microsoft's support. I'm curious to see how much Move support there is during the Sony conference.

Anyway, getting back to the core argument here... if you're looking for MS, Sony, or Nintendo to kneel down and blow you at E3, keep waiting. Won't happen. Maybe ten years ago, sure... but not now.
I'm not asking to get blown and a happy ending, but I expect a good solid balance between casual and hardcore. Wii went into the casual way overboard and there are alot of wii's either being sold on Craigslist or collecting dust. My friends haven't touched theirs in months.
But what Microsoft did was tell the hardcore thanks for building us up to mass appeal so now we will focus on the kids and familes and screw you. That is the message I got. You can't sit there and watch that conference and be happy with what is coming.
Many of the hardcore games, sans the exclusives, will be on the other systems. I am talking more of exclusive games from third parties with a big title would have saved MS from a simply bad conference.

I'm totally sold on Skyrim now. That's easily one of the most beautifully dynamic games I've ever seen. Time to lose countless hours of sleep and life for the game.

Supposedly 300 hours of gameplay. That is what I am talking about. A game worthy of $60.

I am not sure what you CAG's expected from this.

E3 is not the "BIG" thing anymore. The company's prefer to reserve their "BIG" announcements at their own events now.

What exactly did you want them to announce for Xbox exclusives that they didn't?

Very excited for Mass Effect 3 and Tomb Raider looked pretty awesome too. The one thing I wanted to see but didn't was a new Lips game.

Sigh. I was hoping for a lot more than what MS showed. Halo CE looks OK but it's not a $60 title if that what they're hoping to get for it.
I'm hoping for a future where Playstation uses Kinect as well.
I dare say you won't be using Kinect 6 months from now. Oprah is off the air you know.

Thought the conference was the best in years! Nice mix of games and Kinect. The hardcore games for Kinect also look great! Halo 4!

Then the big question if it isn't the BIG thing anymore, why are two channels on tv covering it and why is it streaming online on various sites. Actually, why are we talking about it? Not sure where you are going with that.

Announcement of Rockstar coming out with a exclusive game or EA or the big players making a Xbox360 exclusive would have been a good start and would have soften the blow.

As far as E3 not being BIG anymore is the furthest from the truth.

Tomb Raider stole the show. Gears looked very Gears, and Mass Effect looked very Mass Effect.

Ninja Gaiden 3 looked promising.

But yeah, whoever said Kinect would be harmless... =[

lol that tomb raider trailer i wonder how many people felt awkward at work when others could have mistakenly thought they were looking at porn

Go to gametrailers and let me know if it was the best conference ever.

See, I can be happy with what's coming simply because I don't plan on playing any of the Kinect stuff. I gave up on Microsoft blowing me away with 'exclusives' a long time ago, so maybe I just expect less out of their press conferences.

The other part of that is that we aren't in a system year. Most of the 'hardcore' crowd that was going to buy a 360 already has. Those people will get all of their deathy, killy goodness from Gears and third party titles that were announced a long time ago. What Microsoft is doing now is attempting to get the untapped casual market to buy a 360, which I can't totally fault them for. It just makes business sense.

Now, if this conference happened and these were the big games being pushed for the Xbox 720, I'd be worried. Right now? Not making me fear the future much.

A very small part of me hopes that isn't true because I've managed to squeeze that much out of 40 - 60 hour RPGs across multiple playthroughs. If the game play is stronger than Oblivion and those estimates hold weight I won't be playing anything else until maybe the summer of next year. Very impressed with Bethesda right now. It makes me yearn for Fallout 4 that much more. ;(
Yes but as Nintendo proved if you go hard to the opposite end you lose the hardcore. There is nothing wrong with catering to the casuals and trying to make money off them...but as I said Nintendo has proven that you cant do that and that alone. Yes MS showed off Gears 3 and Halo 4...but its just not enough.
Wii was never going to be a system for the hardcore gamer. And i'm sure they would make the same decision again, as the Wii has been a massive success.

They won't tell you to your face, but Nintendo would gladly lose all the 'hardcore' gamers forever if they can hold onto their current share of casual gamers. There are way, way, way more casual gamers - period.

To me the Wii blows, but it's not targeted to me. But Nintendo sold both my sisters and even my (sixty year old) MOTHER a goddamn Nintendo Wii. They engaged so many people who thought they had no interest in gaming previously.

XBOX is effectively trying to 'do it all.' Who knows if they succeed or not, but i think they'll only alienate the most fickle of gamers in te meantime. It's not as if they aren't still bringing of a ton of great games to the system.

I think they just lost me right there. I'm not paying what will probably be $40 for a game I played 10 years ago. $15 on Live arcade I would've bit.
Also, Im surprised there's no XBLA announcements, sales...etc.
Or a price-drop, where were all those $50 gc deals coming from ?

$40
No Multiplayer, 7 maps as Halo Reach DLC

It's still 3 more days of E3. I wouldn't be surprised if they're waiting for Sony to go first and drop, and then they can follow suit this week, with something they "saved" for later in the show.
Is Halo CE due this year?

I know, right?

Booo on no Summer of Arcade announcements.
Every year I get closer and closer to dumping my xbox.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Yeah, that was really surprising. One of the shots showed the Summer of Arcade and they never mentioned it. I wonder when that detail is coming?

So you've adopted the same attitude MS has towards it's core audience? Nice.

Oh the reactionary Internet, you're so predictable.

Wasn't last years Kinect heavy E3 such a bore? Wasn't last year pretty great for the 360? This presser wasn't for you, the games you want will be waiting for you all year long and if you want to pretend that you're going to abandon an entire console because of this 90 minute conference then, one, you're a liar and two, so long!

Microsoft has Halo: CE A page up:

Just got home and catching up on the MS Conf & Spike broadcast.

Still not interested in any of the Kinect titles/features, now thinking of canceling GR- have to see how much more involved Kinect is with it.

Skyrim, COD, GOW3, BF3, ME3, etc. this fall- I can live with that.
:)

If it "wasn't for me", then why do they keep cramming Kinect into games that "are for me" (ie: ME3, GR)?!
Sycophant.
I more or less abandoned the 360 some time ago. Actually I take that back MS has abandoned ME! Every time I hear someone like you fellate MS, I hate the 360 and MS that much more. Good job!

after watching more footage of MW3 I will not be picking it up, it looks so underwhelming and boring.

BF3 on the other hand is now my FPS of choice!

I won't bother continuing to talk to you since you've clearly taken a stance that you don't intend to budge from.
