Fallout 3 - Gen. Discussion & Info - 'GOTY' Edition w/All 5 DLC Packs 10.13.09

From the sheer number of posts I believe I'm the only one that's not really enjoying Fallout 3. This whole time I've been just wanting to play Oblivion. Is anyone else getting that sensation? Granted, the combat is very much improved over Oblivions swing until you're all sweaty, throw fireballs until you've made your character retarded, shoot arrows till your arm can lift your bow technique.
Chances are I'm just being fussy and should give it more time, but I was hoping for something a little more fun.

Go through the door that says exit over it.

The game is pretty confusing. The map system and navigation is hit or miss. Still enjoy it. Good game. I love V.A.T.S.ing people in the head and seeing their shit explode into a million pieces or having their skills/jaws fly off.

Yeah, went through the door that said exit and it's been open even before I hacked into it so I'm still lost as shit. Though I agree, navigation is only complaint I got for this game (that and the radio stations don't have much in the way of variety), but other then that, great game.

The door I went through was closed when I left there.

Not even close. Notice how there are so few of you, because your opinion stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinks.

Nice to see all you guys using the spoiler tags so much.

I'm enjoying the game to much since I was doing a bit of side questing, but now I'm just back to main quest after GNR.

did you take the satellite off the display? you have to remove it, then there's a few more enemies to kill, then you can leave with it.

i don't know if anyone else is this far yet, but i have an issue too lol.
the mission i'm doing is called "head of state" so if you've done it please read...if not...don't!

one of the guys in the union asked me to find a picture of the lincoln memorial...i've scoured the history museum about 3 times and can't find the damn thing...anybody else find it? i've found 4 other artifacts, but no picture...i'm about to give up :(

Yeah, figured it out "after" wandering around for a few hours there #-oThanks anyways though.

I'm pretty sure I found
it in a desk, on the second floor of the last room.

actually
it was behind a desk on the wall in the main area of the library, in the "loft" above it (there's only a few rooms up there so i wouldn't really call it a 2nd floor of the library)

holy balls that took forever...glad it's over lol

beat it w00t.

i apparently didn't do it right though cuz my total gamerscore for the game is 370. looks like i have more exploring to do. too bad you can't go back out into the world with your character after you beat it...just something to think about.

Raiders/Super Mutants with Missle Launchers should be banned.

I'm also holding a formal protest against enemies using fire hydrants as weapons.

Oh and deathclaws.

This game is killing my sleep cycle. Two nights in a row of playing till 1:30. Keep in Mind I have to get up at six and work all day.

Also, where is the Lab at the radio complex? Want that armor!!!!

Agree! Really likeing the game but it so hard to navigate due to the amount of rubble and the map doesn't help much. The arrors on your radar help but I don't like how the game funnels you through specfic areas. I understand sometimes its needed but it really makes it hard to figrue out where/what you are supposed to do.

Anyone else think the Gouls are way scarier than you expected. I always forget about them until I hear one , scares the piss out of me everytime. good thing they are suckers to a shotgun to the face!

Have not fought any deathclaws yet, but ditto on the mutants w/ rocket launchers.
I had to fight one real early in the game, he kept killing me but I wanted the rocket launcher so I kept reloading and trying again. I finally killed him by shooting the thing out of his hands, but I apparently destroyed it in the process. Hours later I still have not seen another rocket launcher. Bummer.

I'll be playing this again later tonight, but I'm going to lower the difficulty level for my sake.

I'm level 4 and I'm trying to get to GNR and I keep getting punched/poked by enemies on the way. Also, I just did the quest involving Marigold Station and those fucking fire ants, argh they piss me off.

Those fuckers have made me jump more than once already. I am a jumper though. I am getting used to it. I hear the pitter patter of little feet with the expectation to have their face COMPLETELY BLOWN THE fuck OFF!

Holy shit you must have just cruised through the main mission.

very much like the splicers from bioshock, yes?

has anyone else beat it? i'm wondering how far back i need to go...i guess i won't complete the very last mission and do other missions instead...i don't think i want to start over with a new character just yet. i need my "good" rank on 20 achievement before i'm done with this guy lol.
Holy shit you must have just cruised through the main mission.
actually i've just had a lot of time to play this week. i'm on disability from work (bad discs in my back) so i've been instructed to do nothing. good thing this game came out! i think my total hours to beat it was around 30.

 When I am in the subways or other dark areas, I am always tapping RB as a look around. VATS can detect people even if you really can't see them.
AHHHHH, I can't find my way out of DC. I do and then I don't......it is driving me nuts
i had this issue once...the only places i could go to got me killed...i got so mad i reloaded an older save about 3 hours earlier in the game. i hate the metro system, pain in the ass to navigate through.
 When I am in the subways or other dark areas, I am always tapping RB as a look around. VATS can detect people even if you really can't see them.
HA I do the same thing. Enter room, RB. Turn a corner, RB.

Without it I'd be scared to enter the subway. Those f'ers like to hide on you.
Damn my bounty in the Capital Wasteland and damn the bounty hunters trying to kill me. :bomb:
Their armor is pretty good. I welcome them with open arms. :p

Ah, I am almost to Rivet City. I finally made it back to the Washington Monument and went around there. Man, going through the sewers alone made me want to kill myself but now I am facing ammo shortage, health shortage, and Super Mutant problems.

Anyone have any insight into how radiation poisoning works and if there's a natural/free/cheapass way to heal yourself from it? I tried sleeping but that didn't seem to work.

Speaking of which, you get a 10% XP bonus for being "well rested" so I'd recommend that since it's very simple to do.
Is there a good way to get money?
Yeah, I had good karma then robbed pretty much everyone in Megaton and now I'm neutral. Any better way to make that paper..uhhh caps?

Just be freindly to like merc. and bounty hunters and you may get bonus contracts to kill or find someone.

Right now Riley's Rangers are offering me caps to find a location and bring them back the coordinate(so basically just find one and go back and talk to the leader) and thats it. The first time I accepted it and talked to her about it I got 900 caps from all the locations I found before I found out about it

Basically you can keep getting radiation until hits a certain level, then it lowers your strength and agility I think. So you can carry less and walk slower and I believe you also take a very slow amount of constant damage.

To my knoweldge there is no way to cure it for free, but I have a shit ton of Rad-X on me, that I never paid for. It seems to be all over the place, just be careful with it, and don't ever use it until it tells you have radiation sickness.

I Just did the Psychotic Prankster achievement on Father Clifford on Rivet City. Man, something so terribly evil and hysterical to hear him say "HOLY SHIT!" Before his legs get blown off...

Yeah I'm not a big fan of the subway tunnels, not much of a dungeon crawler fan but I guess I have to put up with it. I don't mind clearing out buildings though like RobCo.
I am finally turning the corner on getting around. It is becoming easy to navigate. Is there a good way to get money?
Keep any Pre-War Books you find. There's a person in
Arlington Library
that will take them for 100 caps each. There's something like 98 in the game total. If you're looking for the place, you can find it
west of the potomic at the very bottom of the map just a little ways from the river. I came in from the west side, but I think you can get around from the east side.

Outside of that, I did a lot of quests where I used speech to often double my reward. Usually these quests would cause me to have assloads of ammo/armor eventually (I have 2k Assault Rifle Ammo right now for example) which left my money wide open for whatever I want. Spent 1,700 at Paradise Falls since I'm of good karma and I still have like 5k caps left. Granted I'm level 18 as well. (Not to mention a large ass stockpile of items in my house)

I found about five pre-war books in the library as well. I also had a few on me already, quickest 1500 bottle caps I've made so far.

fuck.

Is it me or this game starts out pretty slow once you enter the mega whatever its called place as soon as you exit the vault. I have no idea what do in the city. Like it guides you like crap Oblivion was way more simple to understand.I have no idea who find everyone wants money and i have no exp to do anything. I keep thinking making wrong choices I am not even sure what mission to start out with. In Oblivion you like start off on main story at least like my first quest I feel I am on a side quest so weird. For people who think this is better then Oblivion I really don't agree at this moment, it started out really good, but at this moment I am not really sold. Also it feels like an open world FPS so far.

Same.

This may be premature but, after playing the Mirror's Edge demo, I'm calling Fallout 3 my Game of the Year. \\:D/

It's just you. Just start talking to people, you'll get quests. This game is WAY better than Oblivion.
