I read purple flames' post and asked my self "there's a fighting game called fu ck?"
Also, VF4 is a good game, it's just extremely hard to master. I actually came in first in VF4Evo in a tournament at my college a few months back, so I have a little knowledge of the game. I used Lion in the tourney, but I also like to dabble with Brad as well.
It's been a year since I even touched the game, but I always used Brad in Evo.

Rolento - I got no prob testing, but I don't know much about programing or anything. I have a friend who is a great artist and creates very good character designs, he's into 2D mostly. But I don't know if I can get him to help, he's kinda lazy.

More EVO 2005 news for those of you that might be interested:

On Friday night during the 4 day event, they will be a world premiere of Manga Entertainment's: Street Fighter Generations animated movie. Also there will be a rare screening of the Street Fighter documentary of "Bang the Machine" with the director himself there to present the film.

All this plus the best Koreans, Japanese, and of course American fighting gamers in Las Vegas!

:)

Btw, does anyone here play in or around San Diego? There is a pretty healthy fighting game scene here for almost every game.

That Midnight Bliss stuff is hilarious. I've seen that Dante pic before-- though you don't even have to put boobs on him-- most Dante fans would happily turn in their hetero cards for a night with that guy

Wonder how Rumble Fish turned out, I may import it, if it has good reviews.

lol, testing wont be for a long while... as soon as testing is possible, you guys will be the first to know.

anyone have any opinions about the fan made Beats of Rage? i just downloaded all the versions of it today and am planning to try them out later tonight on my DC.

I have Beats of Rage for my DC. For what it is, it is pretty polished IMO. Nice and simple Final Fight clone. I wish the walking speed was faster but this is still the best homebrew DC game I have played.

Midnight Bliss is entertaining if nothing else, that is for sure.

I have Beats of Rage for xbox. It's a solid beat 'em up, but like Guilewasnk said, it's a bit slow.

I hope there's some of the SFIII storyarc is present in the flick. t gets little to no recognition for being such a great game.

Any people have opinions or views on the next-gen console impact that will (if it will) happen to fighting games in general?

I am glad to know there is at least 1 fighting game that is for sure being made for next gen (Tekken 6, none the least :) ), but I am sad to hear if 2D fighters loose out on all this great technollogy. What needs to be done to make 2d fighters up to par with next gen? it better be not just nice looking stage backgrounds, as most 2d fighters only use the great technology for fancy backdrops.

I think 2D fighters need GGX2 level visuals or better. Personally, I still love KOF's rugged sprites but to crack the mainstream market the visuals need to be top notch. There needs to be a game that uses Marvel vs. Capcom 2 style tag matches. Thorought stats would be nice. Have the game keep track of the percentage of blocked specials/supers, number of super KO's, counters, usage of specials. Use this to create online worldwide player profiles similar to ESPN NFL 2K5 that can be downloaded to the CPU to emulate a human fighter's techniques. Just a few ideas.

The d/l human character's AI would be a fuckin' awesome idea. It'd be like Quest Mode in VF4Evo.

It's damn near impossible to get better against CPU opponent, since they do things that make no sense. For example: in SF3:3S against CPU Ken, if you're a full-screen distance away from him he'll do:

lp. SRK-->mp. SRK-->hp. SRK

What self-respecting human opponent would vene consder doing something like that? I'd love to be able to d/l the AI of top players.

Yeah, I kind of wish I had patented that idea.

I think it would be a great step in the evolution of fighters.

*cough*dead or alive 4*cough* ;-) sorry, just gotta represent the little guy.

Arc System Works is making games for the 360, hopefully they'll continue with the GG series.

My main hope is that another company will come along and give us something new and high quality. We need new franchises, characters, improved character models etc. Smash Bros and Guilty Gear X2 were the only fresh 2-D fighters this gen.

Damn you're late.

I don't know what to expect from the next gen of consoles 2D wise. I'm kinda scared cause THIS generation is already starting to reject them, but maybe it will force SNK to finally boost up to Hi- res.

I do know that as long as there are 2D fighting fans, they'll be 2D fighters. I don't see SNK abandoning 2D anytime soon, unlike Capcom.

If anyone reading this thread plays Guilty Gear on Live, let me know-- I can't find anyone on there any more.

If I still had Xbox Live, I would totally set up a few tournaments with brackets and stuff. Why don't you guys? You can have monthly tournaments and stuff, get a nice thing going.

Once I get back to college I plan on getting Xbox Live (I couldn't get it at home since I don't hvae a cable connection). It'd be good to have more diverse competition than just my circle of friends.

I would be all about it, but I don't have the time to set it up. If anyone else can, that would be awesome.

The casino got a big arcade. The fighting games suck balls though. Tekken 4, 5 and VF4. Tekken 5 sucks, neither joystick works. I didn't play 4, and in VF4 the monk dude kicked my ass on the 7th stage. They have a lot of shooting games. HotD3, Time Crisis 3, jurassic park the lost world, some tactical shooting game and this cop game by Konami (it's the best one, and it looks new). Something 3, I dont remember. I liked Initial D 3, and I got my lil card right here. Cost me 4 tokens, just like the game. I was pissed when I won the race and they still wanted me to pay. And no $1 isn't 4 tokens. I gtg to my room now. I scored some tag body spray, I'm bout to attract some hot chicks with it (and my handsomeness of course).

To breed some life into this thread, here's a question for you guys, what's the longest you've ever played a fighting game?

According to my time statistics on my Soul Calibur 2, I've played 55 hours or so and have unlocked everything. This is also not considering the time I have invested in it at the arcade where I have multiple characters. I play it at the arcade here since we still have arcades, and since a bunch of them have the game for 1 quarter and have huge tourneys and groups that play it. I have one character wiht about 1200 wins and 100 losses, one with 500 wins and 130 losses now, and a couples others. In the game I have mastered Raphael, Talim (my favorite), Voldo (my second favorite and the character I have the most strategy), some what Astaroth, Maxi, and Ivy (there's only two moves with her that I can't get consistently. They are the two hardest holding moves I have seen since Zangief in SF).

It's probably my favorite fighter this generation, well tied if you count the DC and SC 1, with Tekken 5, VF4/Evo, and Tekken Tag coming in behind. This is all for 3d fighters if you were wondering. I tend to like to keep the groupings seperate.

It's a toss-up between SSB:M and MvC2 (back when I cared about the game). I must have clocked well over 100+ hours on both just trying to unlock stuff.

Good post. Can't believe I forgot about those two. I still play SSB:M off on, and my timer on the game is slightly skewed since I did the trick of leaving the system on for the night, but prior to doing that I played it straight for 10 hours when I got it and my system.

I should check my MvC2 counter as well. Before I bought the game, I had rented it about 3-4 times (bugles coupons and other various coupons). Probably have at least 30 hours on it.
Def Jam: Fight For New York is a great game.
agreed i hope they make another one...the ending left me wanting for more.

edit- the longest fighting i have ever played was third strike. i just wanted to get chains together to a point where they were routine and easy for me but that still has not happend for me....

Out of all the fighting games I've played I would have to say I plugged the most hours into Tekken Tag. It's far from my favorite fighter, but when it came out in the arcade I would play with a group and we had alittle tournement which I won and went to Orlando for the state championship but lost there. Then when I went to collage I got it for the PS2 on launch (I waited 3 hours in a line to get it.) My team was Paul and Lee but I could use any character effectively.

Honorable mentions - Street Fighter Alpha (PS1) KOF 98' (DC) Killer Insticnt (SNES) These games pulled me away from alot of school work.
Yeah, Tekken Tag was the last thing I remember playing a lot of in the arcade before the 'cades died out.
Seems like this generation of systems killed the arcades. Online is one reason. But also back in the 16-Bit era the game was released in arcades then brought to console like 6 months to a year later. Plus they weren't "arcade perfect" unlike now the console version is better than the arcade due to extras added in. Also the arcade and console versions both come out at the same time, except SNK. It seems like they try to keep it old school. Their was a reason to go to arcades, now it's like "why go when you can buy it and play online?"

I hate to say it but I really need to get an X-Box. Just doesn't feel right playing 2D fighters on it though.

Really late to the party, but here I go...

1. What fighting game has the best announcer/narrator/MC? the worst?
--Best is Mortal Kombat 2 and 3, Shao Khan was badass! EXCELLENT! OUTSTANDING! YOU WILL DIE, MORTAL! MUHAHAHAHAHA! Worst might be Super Street Fighter 2, it sounded like Big Bird from Sesame Street.

2. What fighting game has the best intro? the worst?
--I love the Street Fighter Alpha 3 intro. And even though it's not very elaborate I love the original DarkStalkers intro... I'll never forget the first time I saw Morrigan in that! T'was the closest I've ever been to being "smitten" by a video game character. Heh, I was years away from having an actual girlfriend at the time. But even today I have no problem admitting that she's the hottest game chick ever.
avatar-morrigan-med-anim1.gif

The worst intro... hmmm... well Street Fighter II World Warrior/CE/Hyper Fighting was pretty lame, even though I'll always have a nostalgaic affection for it. Just some random dude punching another random dude.

3. What is the worst looking fighting game you have ever played?
--

4. What is the most unfair fighting game you have ever played
(unbeatable/impossible AI)?
--I love Mortal Kombat 3/Ultimate/Trilogy to death, but playing against the CPU is completely worthless. Exploiting a few basic patterns is the only way to win. Try anything resembling a normal strategy, and you'll get nowhere.

5. Would you like to see a new type of fighting game that plays in First-Person view and actually plays good (I may be working on a game like this soon)?
--I'd be willing to give it a shot.

6. What fighting game has the best character(s) design? the worst?
--Best charater designs would be Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. Worst would be Virtua Fighter... boring, generic charaters with normal names.

7. What fighting game has the best soundtrack? the worst?
--Best is Mortal Kombat II and 3 (both of which I own on CD)! The mood and atmosphere of those tracks were awesome. Worst is Marvel vs Capcom 2, by far.

8. What was the best year for fighting games in your opninion?
--1994! There were CROWDS at the arcades, lining up for Super Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat II. You don't even understand, MKII was frigging HUGE in Long Island; in 1994 there were three places IN WALKING DISTANCE OF MY HOUSE where I could go to play it. Meanwhile there was badass stuff like DarkStalkers coming out. I view 1994 as the peak of Arcades, and therefore the best year for fighting games. In 1995, PlayStation came out and everything changed. MK3 and Street Fighter Alpha games came out, but by then it was slim pickin's at the arcades (at least in my area).

time put into games... hmrs..s..s.?

I'de say Tekken 3. Oddly enough I had alot of competition back when it was out. I at least clocked about 3 hours a day, every day of the week, into that game. Tekken 5 comes close behined just due to me wanting to get every single character to tekken lord (please note: if you do this, prepare to go insane!), which I am proud to say I have been able to pull of (you can download my FAQ of my documentation at Gamefaqs as well as my game save with all the Tekken Lord characters).

as the post above states about female animated chicks: don't worry, I have the same problem. To this day a sexy pick of Mai can turn me on alot more than most other sexy real life things. I don't know if that's just sad or not.

I used to feel that way. I even got a PS2 to Xbox converter to use the Dual Shock 2 on my Xbox. I have gotten used to the Xbox D-Pad now though.

How many of you use a stick?

It pisses me off that the last decent commercially released stick in the US was the official Dreamcast one. Why doesn't Agetec release one for the modern systems!?

:bomb:

which game have I spent the most time with?

everybody get ready for a HUGE shocker.........(sarcasm)

As far as I know--

Dead or Alive: Ultimate. the counter says 150 hours...80 of which were played in the first month of owning it. Now I just play online every once in a while and mostly stick with the Japanese version of DoA 3, which plays about 10x better.

runner ups:

--Virtua Fighter 4-- most of my first year of owning a PS2 was spent playing VF, trying to learn Aoi and Kage. I still suck :p

--MK 1 + 2 in the arcades

Whoa, I just checked Soul Blade.

I clocked in 86 hours.

Character usage...

Taki 14.9%

Seung Mina 12.3%
Sophitia 12.0%
Siegfried 7.9%
Voldo 7.4%
Hwang 7.0%
Rock 6.7%
Souledge 6.4%
Mitsurugi 5.7%

Survival Data (Normal Weapon)

Soul Edge 26
Taki 15
Seung Mina 15

Survival Data (Special Weapon)

Li Long 63 wins (weapon 8)
Rock 42 wins (weapon 8)
Seung Mina 31 wins (weapon 5)

I had a custom stick made by Dreaded Fist over at shoryuken.com. It set me back 162 bucks, but it was damn worth it.

I posted a pic of it in the old fighting game thread, but I'll try to post it again.

jeeze, a day or two ago I popped in Sould Blade/Edge in my PS1 and the music was very nice. I forgot how good it was. I preffer the original arcade stuff over the Remixes, but it is pretty good. GuilewasNK's answers to my questions made me want to hear it again. good taste man.

Thanks. I absolutely LOVE the music in Soul Blade. Rock's Stage (Recollect Continent) is probably my all time favorite stage theme. The intro theme and video is still one of my favorites too.
