GamersGate has a big sale going on this month apparently, with each week being devoted to a different genre. First up: RPGs. For those of you that missed the original price during the Steam sale, they have The Witcher for $6.78, among others.

On another note, I'm considering the Witcher and Titan Quest. My backlog is pretty big right now though, but I have all the time in the world at the moment.
Picked up TQ Gold during the THQ sale a few weeks ago. Enjoying it so far.

So, Deus Ex (and the sequel) got amazing reviews when they came out. Do the games still stand up 10 years (well, 7 for the sequel) after release?
I think so. The graphics are clearly aged -- they were not amazing at the time -- and the gunplay is somewhat clunky, but neither are really the focus, and none of that takes away from the fact that Deus Ex simply is one of the best games of all time.

I will note that while I loved the opening mission, a lot of people for some reason didn't, so: make sure you play until the second or third mission before you make your final judgment.

But yeah, for $3.39 -- everyone should try out Deus Ex. It is fantastic.
What are you five? The sex interaction is only a small portion of the game. An adult shouldn't sweat implied sexuality or nudity. The game as a whole is badass and is very worth it.
I think avoiding games that have sex scenes such as this one...

...make me feel a bit more mature.

The thought of having to put myself through sequences like that to advance a story in some way just seems comical to me. Did a team of 12 year olds write the sexual interactions?

That video is just one example of it. Others on youtube all have the same sort of interaction. Even if that is a minor component of the game it's enough to make me want to pass on it.

Back on topic...

DA: O for the PC is tempting for $15 bucks. I have it for the 360 but just found the controls to be a pain in the arse. Never should have picked it up for that platform.

Picked up both King's Bounty and Deus Ex.

I did not receive a serial key for King's Bounty The Legend but did for Armored Princess. I can't start playing without one due to SecuRom. I googled the issue and it seems they've run out of keys before. Gonna try to shoot them an email to see what's up.

Oh, I can't afford even the Deus Ex games! Such good deals, but Gamestop broke me with Fallout 3 GOTY and Borderlands!

"That's a problem you want to have."

Man, I want all my digital download to stay with Steam....but the deluxe edition of DA:O is looking reallly temping.

Go for it, I say. It's not like you'll be missing out on any achievements or Steamworks features, and (assuming you get a key from GG) you can even get extra backup protection with the EA Downloader.
Has Gamersgate improved their downloading speeds? I bought Batman from them earlier this year and got speeds between 100-300k. For games as big as ME2 and DA, that'll take awhile.
I get crap speeds from them.

Hopefully they do an FPS sale and put COD4 on sale, still don't have it but I want it after becoming fed up with MW2.

King's bounty = LOVE (if you like Might and magic)

Hell, I didn't even like might and magic and i like that game. Absolutely worth it at that price, and probably for the expansion too.

If anyone here hasn't played Gothic I, or II...BUY THOSE NOW! If you can stand patching the game slightly, it'll be one of your most enjoyable romps through an RPG...Both Gothic and its sequel are AMAZING titles, albeit littered with bugs while un-patched.

Take my advice, buy those titles.

What's the character customization like in them, if any? I love a good RPG, but if I can't connect to the central character it really hurts it for me.

Thanks for posting up the deals! Definitely considering DA:O. One question for those who picked it up - does it give you a key? I'd prefer to register the key on Steam and dl via that ap if possible.

Also, is the deluxe edition worth the extra $5?

For those in the know - any word on a "gold" pack with DA:O and the expansion? That's honestly what I was planning on wating for (that and finishing my enormous backlog lol)

There really isn't depth to the main character, nor is there facial customization. You play a single hero, who looks identical in both games. It's definitely not an RPG in the sense of character development...More along the lines of enjoying the journey.

Ah, ok. Thanks for the info - doesn't sound like it'd fit for me very well, but I'm sure plenty of others would like it. ^_^

Very tempted to buy DAO & ME2 but I already have them for the 360, and I'm kinda holding out for GOTY editions with all the DLC.

Guess I'll have to flip a coin again.

Though very, very extremely tempting....I think I'll pass on the DA:O Deluxe Edition. For some reason I feel this holiday season Steam is going to sell this along with the Awakening expansion for this price range or just a bit more. What'll be even worst is, knowing me, I won't even install this game until late this year or early next year or so with the backlog I currently have...

Plus I just picked up the GOTY edition of Fallout 3 from D2D and I know I won't be finished with that ANYTIME soon...so, I'll use that to fill the void of passing on a deal like this. lol

Yes it gives you serial keys. One for game itself and the other to register on EA's network to dl all the bonus content etc.

For me, 20 bucks for DA:O was my price point. So to get the deluxe edition for the price I was waiting for is a no brainer

The digital deluxe version on PC is DEFINATELY worth it because it comes with the Warden's Keep DLC, which is a must-have because once you beat it, you get a bottomless chest to hold your extra stuff.

Most likely there won't be any type of gold/GotY bundle as EA has never done one for any game in the past. If they did, this would be the first time. (Mass Effect 1 was published by Microsoft so including DLC in the P.H. version on 360 doesn't count.)
I think the dlc that comes with the deluxe edition costs $7 so if you were planning on buying that anyways it looks like you'll come out ahead with the deluxe version.

I bought the regular version and the Warden's Keep dlc at launch. I enjoyed the dlc but mainly for the backstory it provides on the Grey Wardens. You also get some nice talents and items. The storage chest isn't as useful because you can download a chest to put in your party camp (which is much more accessible).
Wow that's interesting since that option is not available on the console version. On consoles, the chest after completing Warden's Keep is the only one available. Grrr.

The poster is referring to a mod. Due to the nature of the platform, console RPGs aren't really moddable.

psunami,

It is a minor component of the game. In fact, it's entirely optional.

Even if it weren't, stop and think about any form of video-game sex simulation or allusion that wasn't laughable or rather ridiculous on its face. Mass Effect? Dragon Age? Neverwinter Nights 2? Are any of them anything other than kind-of goofy and put in pretty much because an "M"-rated game is expected to have some reference to this most human of interactions?

Now think about how you would put sex into a computer game in a way that wouldn't seem goofy or like a low-budget porn. Frankly, I'm not convinced that it can be done.

So if that's your criterion for judging a game's quality, I expect you're going to be depriving yourself of some quality RPG experiences for years to come.

I don't know much about the server speeds, because my home connection is just DSL, and GG's client is a proxy download, so it's blocked by my work internet. However, that's the only bad part about using Gamersgate. I've had an account for a while and it's a perfectly reputable site and not a haven for malware.

That's fair. I just see sequences like that that are so ham-handed and make me doubt the quality of the game overall. It may not be fair to judge the game on sequences such as that, but that's what I've done in this instance.

Bought Dragon Age Deluxe, though I wish I had seen the EA deal because I registered the key through EA Downloader, and I'm now downloading the game via EA.

The purchase receipt showed two keys... what's the second key for? EA Downloader doesn't recognize it.

That's probably for the DLC.

Damn, I just paid $30 for DA:O DDE about a month ago on Steam... though I've never used this service and Steam is pretty convenient.
I'm still debating between The Witcher and Dragon Age. Which one do I choose, CAG's?

They are both very good games man...just get them both ;)

Well, I wouldn't be much of a CAG if I did that, would I?

I'm leaning towards The Witcher, personally.

LOL good point. If you prefer controlling 1 character vs 4, then the Witcher is definitely the better choice. Also has a lot of alchemy involved, and you can s3x0r it up with chicks...I mean hey, who wouldn't want pixelated love? hehe

Seriously - either way is golden, it just depends on your preferred playstyle.

I played the Witcher Demo and thought it was just OK... it also seemed a bit... rough on my system, whereas Dragon Age actually works just fine. I've been enjoing Dragon Age quite a bit since I bought it, about 30 hours in, and I feel like I still have just tons of stuff left to do.

Has anyone tried registering the key for Mass Effect 2 from GamersGate on EA Download Manager? Looks like someone had success with Dragon Age, so it seems like it would work.

Awesome! I've been wanting to try Mass Effect 1+2 for a bit. Getting them both for $25 was great. Can't wait to play.

BTW, I registered, downloaded (games, patch and DLC) and all that stuff just fine.

I think it holds up very well, especially if you follow the tips in this guide for graphical goodness:

I think I am going to bite on DA:O, was going to wait to purchase this game but I can not pass up $15

Checked the site out, looks pretty good. Nothing this week I want and I'm really hoping they have Dawn of War II Gold and Company of Heroes Complete edition. Thanks for the heads up everybody.
EDIT: Damn, just realized that dawn of war 2 uses steam for activation and gamer's gate doesn't carry it.

indeed my friend
enjoy!

debating on DA:O but like most gonna wait for steam to match someday

I hear a lot of people angry about the XBOX controls for DA:O. Should I sell my copy that I picked up for 10 bucks at the last BBV sale to buy the PC digital deluxe version?

Steam will probably have it on sale for pretty cheap towards the end of the year, since the sequel is supposed to come out at the beginning of next year.

Dragon Age is one of the best games i've ever played and in my top 5 all time. I played the PC DD version. The Witcher is also awesome but it drags a bit in the middle chapters but the last 2 are some of the best gaming i've ever been a part of. I also recommend getting the DD version of DA, well worth the extra $5.
