If its a plain old Block Buster...no go.

I live in MI, and the 4 GR's ive gone to have had this sale going on with 2 other sales, Buy one, Get 1 %50 off and Trade in any game, get $10 off a 39.99 or more NEW game.

Not all GR's are in on this. Of those that do, the rules vary by compentence.

Yes the deal is still rolling... I've been having good luck the last few days picking up some good stuff on the $9.99 deal. The last two days I've grabbed Wario Ware Inc (GC), 2 Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes and a Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (XB) for $9.99 each.

What did I trade in you say? I cleared my closet of PS1 games (even sports games!), Metal Gear Solid for PS1 & Legaia 2 for PS2. They took all the sports games and gave from .50 to $3.00 for relics like NHL 97, NCAA Gamebreaker, and March Madness :). Needless to say the total cost of all four games after trade: $8 for each Metal Gear, $7 for Wario and $1 for Splinter Cell (they gave me $8.00 for Legaia 2!)

I'll be picking up more PS1 games at Game Crazy just to see what I can roll with this deal at least.

Another heads up...I brought in Space Channel 5 for PS2 to trade in along with all the PS1 games. They are giving $25 in credit for the game :) I decided to hold back on it and wait for Zelda: Four Swords to come out in the next day or so. Needless to say, with the new game for $29.99 deal, I will get Four Swords for $5 plus tax.

And to think, EB is selling Space Channel 5 used for $11.99. Roll the EB GMR card on that thing and you can have any new $49.99 game for $16 plus tax....woot! (Just a heads up!)

...thats insane. SC5 gets you 25? add that with some penny FYE games and ive got some Riddick and Psi-Ops coming to me.

I'm not sure how they're able to keep this up.

Over the past week, I've gone an traded in 1.99 clearence PS1 games from EBgames to Gamerush, and got Twin Snakes, which I promptly traded towards Full Spectrum Warrior and picked up Crimson Skies along with it... grant total.. $15 dollars (intial outlay for PS1 games included)

Did the Same thing a couple of days later... but had to use 2.99 clearence PS1 games from EB.
12 dollars intial outlay. Went over to Blockbuster and picked up Nightshade and Pokemon Colleseum.. the games traded in for 6, so it cost 14 (so I'm up to 20). I then trade Pokemon Colleseum towards Riddick. (Had to pay 1.28 in tax).

So, for a grand total of 37 dollars, I got Full Spectrum Warrior, Chronicles of Riddick, Crimson Skies and Nightshade.

Of course, I've been going and renting more movies at blockbuster, and shopped at Gamerush a lot more... maybe that's their entire plan for the promotion. I've seen all the gamerushes around for 6+ months, but didn't really bother to shop at them because the prices were average.
Did your gamerush stores let you do more than one of these deals per visit?
I went to three different gamerushes that let me trade 4 games in and get 2 for 9.99.

So far from gamerush i've gotten LOTR: Return of the King, Deus Ex 2, preordered Psi-ops, plus got two games which I took to gamestop to trade for Prince of Persia, Project Gotham 2 and Dynasty Warriors 4. All for about $20 out of pocket plus 4 or 5 old games.
Not bad.
Did your gamerush stores let you do more than one of these deals per visit?
I was held to the limit of two of the "Trade 2 get any preowned for 9.99", and a limit of one "Buy any hot new game for 29.99 or less."

http://www.blockbuster.com/bb/gamerush/grcoupon.pdf

Also, I just got a coupon in the mail for the "Trade in a used game get $20 towards a new game" deal, says the deal is expiring at the end of this month.

One more thing, would you be able to price match a deal like this at any other stores like EB, Gamestop, or BB? I know its not unheard of for stores to accept others stores coupons for competitive reasons

I would say you probably could not pricematch this deal because it involves a trade in. I don't believe the stores that do trade ins price match coupons.

So does the computer automatically ring up the trade 2 get 1 for $9.99 deal? A GameRush just opened up today near me and I asked the clerks if this deal was going on and they had no clue. Please tell me this is programmed into their computers.

No, it isn't programmed into their computers. After you bring the game you want up to the register, they first have to scan some special barcode that rings up the game as a $9.99 trade-in special. Sounds like the stupid clerks at your store didn't know how to do it.

Okay, so they should have it on that little deal sheet that they always have at Blockbuster. I'll have to go back later today and see if they can find it on there.
I'll still need to do this if it's still going on.
Oh yeah, it's still going on. The Gamerush employe I talked to said that this $9.99 deal will most likely be permanent at all the GR stores. (The $4.99 one was just supposed to be a special promo).

Not all GR stores are letting you trade in PS1 games for Xbox, GC & PS2 though. Last week at one of the GR's I hit, the clerk said they changed their policy and will only let you trade in games for the same generation systems (i.e. you can't trade in PS1 games for PS2, Xbox, and GC games). Although all the other GR stores in my still let you trade in PS1 games for newer stuff.

That is absoloutely not true about the 9.99 deal. It's "officially" over. More power to anyone whose store still lets them do it, but odds are your gamerush store won't. It ended June 1st. It's been taken off their website and replaced the new game for 29.99 deal. Permenant? There are an unlimited supply of crap games out there, you think they can permenantly sell newly released preowned games for 9.99 with worthless trade-in....while EB and Gamestop are charging 44.99 and 39.99...and make a profit? When they will pay you $25 the next day for what you got for 9.99? No way in hell....

You are a bit too high on Gamerush.....it's a gimmick to get people interested and their current deals are great....but once they start rolling out these are going to end. Get these great deals while you can but don't get attached to them. A store has got to make money sooner or later.

He didn't know about it because it's over. He should have a bardcode near his register for a trade 1 get a new release for 29.99 though.

no way man, this deal is alive and well both the game rushes by me AS WELL AS the flyer distributed by Blockbuster Inc. to all stores both still advertise that this trade 2 get one for 9.99 is going on. All you need to do if the employee wont let you do it is pick up one of the current flyers from the counter and push it in his face. I'd like to see the jerk argue with company policy.

If I am wrong then I wholeheartedly apologize, but did the flyer you saw have a specific date on it. All 3 gamerushs in NY told me the deal expired June 1st.

Sorry, I think you are wrong. All 6 of the Gamerush stores in my area are still having the $9.99 deal. I know because I just hit them all up this week. I think you are confusing it with the $4.99 deal...that *did* end on June 1st. I had that exact same flyer too and I'm pretty sure the exp date pertained just to the $4.99 deal.

About the deal being permanent, hey, thats what the employe told me. Don't know if it's true or not. Maybe I am a bit too high on Gamerush, but it is an incredible deal and I'm going to take advantage of it while I can. Others should also.

Agreed. If it is still on I am going to have to get back there. I really wish I had something to back it up though....like a flyer with a valid through date. Because otherwise they are just going to say no. If anyone has seen a flyer with this info let me know. Thanks.

Alot of the stores have stopped because there was a company memo that went to managers e-mails. All but one near me stopped. The one had never used the deal til I asked about it...then they had to go look up the barcode...and it's ongoing. The stores probably said June 1st as a way of stopping it without getting arguments from people. And, it hasn't been listed on the website in a long, long, time....because they realized that the promotion was too good and sent out those memos. But....it's great some store managers don't read their e-mails. :)

Why is it so hard for them to actually know WTF is going on....if it's over, shut it out of the system, y'know. Can't be that impossible. I loved getting those good deals but I still think Blockbuster and Gamerush suck and are disorganized messes.

Sucks to be in NY. I talked to the manager at the local GR here in Detroit and he says they are "Continuing forward" with the Trade 2 deal and does not see an end in sight. He also mentioned something about three of the local stores being lumped into a district. Whether that has something to do with it or not, I don't know. The only thing stating the Trade 2 deal at my local GR is a hand drawn marker erase board. None of the current flyers state it. That is only the newest deals out there.

Go back to your store and complain. Throw a fit and break a window.

I'll still take NY and crappy gamerush deals over Detroit and good gamerush deals

Honestly, there seems to be some real confusion. I'm sure the managers in the NY locations were told to stop the 9.99 deal. Someone else posted that all managers should have been told to stop but some may have not gotten/ignored the email. Again if it's still working over where you are, that's fantastic. It's obviously YMMV but it still seems to me that the deal technially over. It used to be up on their website but now it isn't. I'm guessing that if you called blockbuster customer service (who knew about the GR deal when it was first going on) they would tell you it's over. I'm not going to bother because either way, it's deaded in NY.

It is a new concept and it doesn't seem like most managers know what's happening at all with gamerush yet. It's understandable. But for anyone who really thinks that's going to be a permenant thing....Look don't get me wrong I don't know jack sht about Blockbuster or Gamerush corporate policies but the idea is to make money, not lose tons of it. There's no way they can make money taking in unsellable garbage, selling $40 used games for 9.99, and then giving you new games on the cheap plus high trade in. I visited Gamerush twice and came away with two new games for $5 each. If they keep up these deals much longer the only used games available for 9.99 would be the 4 year old sports games and PS1 games people have been trading in.

The flyers i saw were the new ones to replace last week or last months flyer (not sure how often they replace them). I know this because the employee just took them out of a box and they were in a plastic bundle on the counter.

I just went to the Blockbuster in Troy, Michigan and can confirm that they are still running the trade in 2 games get a previously owned for $9.99 deal.

They had a sheet with 3 or 4 bar code scans for their game promos. There was buy one previously owned and get the second for 50% off, trade in a game and get a new release for $29.99 and finally the trade in 2 games and get 1 Previously Owned for $9.99. The guy in front of me was trading in 2 games for the $9.99 deal.

I traded in Project Gotham Racing (for a $7 credit) and applied it to Rallisport Challenge 2 for a total of $24 including tax. Might go hit circuit city later today and pick up a $4.99 game and go back and get Chronicles of Riddick.

Go Pistons. Beat LA.

Just got back myself. Traded 2 GBA games I got at CC for a total of 8 bucks, & walked out of Gamerush with a mint Rainbow 6, 3 for Xbox and $5.00 left in credit. Also yesterday picked up Contra & Mike Tyson Punchout NES for $14.99 thanks to the buy one cart get one free.

All of the local Gamerush's in my area still haved the 2 for 9.99 deal going on. I picked up Hitman Contracts, Sonic Heroes, Splinter Cell 2, NFL Street, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes and a brand new copy of The Chronicles of Riddick (using the 29.99 deal) for less than $50. If this deal only lasts a couple of more weeks, I'll be very happy. Thank God for CAG!

No, no, you've got it all wrong. It's 248-GET-BENT!!

I think they finally realized how bad they screwed themselves cause the deal ended today.
My buddy was going to Eb, Gamestop & other video game stores and buying every ps1 game they have for 1.99 then trading in 2 at a GR for $1 each trade so so far he's out $1 on 2. Then paying 9.99 for a used game that is worth $20 or more in trade at BB. So he's out 11.99 then taking that game to another GR and trading it in for $20 and paying 29.99 for any new game.
So know he's out 21.98 for any brand new factory shrink wrapped game. Then listing it on ebay for buy it now $35. I know it sounds crazy but he has made over 5 grand this month. By going to 12 BB's per day. All the while he did nothing illegal he just took advantage of their sales.

You can bet there won't be anymore great sales there in the near future.

blownsi: this deal is NOT over, because the usual employee I do these transactions with would have said something after I said, "I'll be back tomorrow", nationally, this doesn't even look like it's a deal as much as it is a policy now. They are getting LOTS of business from people this way, though it may seem like they are losing, because often-times we give them bad games for good ones, I'm sure they know what they're doing, and this deal is not over, guys. At least not here, as the deal is still being advertised. But, as I said, I think this is more of a policy thing, not a deal. But anyway...

Today, a friend of mine bought 6 PS2/PSX games for a total of 15 dollars spent: he used that buy 2 get 1 free deal twice.

Then, he traded all of those in, and got Van Helsing, RE: Outbreak, and Hitman Contracts in one day at the same store, and then he plays to trade back in those games and get 25-35 dollars credit for them. Due to the credit from the games he got, he spent 6 dollars for 3 games, totalling in, which is amazing considering that if you bought those in the store, you would have spent well over 140 dollars.

A brilliant scheme, this Game Rush is.

I've been cashing out as well, I buy preowned versions of games that sell for 30 or so dollars, trade them right back in, and bring in a preowned game, and get a new game for about 5 dollars spent, because you can get ANY NEW game for 29.99 if you bring in any game. However, I'm more than 100 percent sure that the whole "bring in a preowned game, get a new game for 29.99" will not last forever.

Though, I do love Game Rush. I got a new copy of The Four Swords for 4.50 doing that above plan.

I also got Twisted Metal Black and Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, both for a total of under 15 dollars, using their "buy 2, get one 50 percent off" deal.

Oh, plus, can someone guess/find out how much credit you'd get for these titles if you traded them in tomorrow:

Van Helsing
Resident Evil Outbreak
Hitman Contracts
Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain
The Suffering

Thank you.

I'd be very surprised if the deal was over since my Blockbuster was handing out flyers on Friday with the date June 14th at the top. And this deal was the main thing on the flyer.

It makes you wonder why it's no longer on the gamerush website....weird...
I'd be very surprised if the deal was over since my Blockbuster was handing out flyers on Friday with the date June 14th at the top. And this deal was the main thing on the flyer.
If you guys keep abusing the system then I bet you this deal won't last forever. Going to EB and picking up playstation games to trade in is acceptable, but the problem comes when you trade back in the games you bought from GameRush.... you're exploiting the deal ..which, yes isn't illegal.. however, I highly doubt it will be around forever

But anyways... if people keep doing it sooner or later they will take it away. I mean they can't make money if someone pays less than 9.99 for one of thier newer used games, gives them two playstation games they sell for 2.99, and then trades that game back in for $25-$35 credit. They are losing a net of at least $10 if they eventually sell the Psone games.

Their website does list trade in values for the most valuable new games; however, none of the games you have are on it. Check it out at they website, gamerush.com

i go to gamerushes pretty much almost everyday. i have never heard anyone say anything about an email or this deal ending. in fact the flyer that they have at the counter states that it started on may 31. theres no way that it ended on june 1 if it started on may 31.

Do you have one of those flyers? Just wondering if it says only at certain locations or if it's a national flyer...

it does say something about participating locations only. so it is safe to say that probably not all gamerushes are the same.

Jeff,

If you get another chance to look at it, let me know if it lists particular stores/regions. Thanks.

Bad experience at the Brighton, MI Gamerush today.

I walk in with 2 PS2 and 6 PS1 games to trade in for the the $9.99 deal. I also brought in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles to trade in and get a brand new Legend of Zelda Four Swords Adventures. I picked up four used games and walked up to the Gamerush counter and said "hi" to the employee there. He blows my greeting off and begins to tell me about the new terms to the $9.99 deal. Now, if you trade in PS1 games, you can only use them towards a PS1 game. This really isn't too bad, but it kind of sucks considering I had just bought about 12 PS1 games for this deal. So I held on to all of my PS1 games and traded in a couple PS2 games to get Hitman Contracts. I then try to trade Crystal Chronicles, usually worth $25 in credit, to get Four Swords for $5. He scans Crystal Chronicles and says "Since you've bought this game from here before and have also traded it in before we can only give you $10 in store credit for it." Ugh. So I say "fine", I just want to get Zelda. Anyways, the only Zelda they have was in horrible condition, and since they were also out of Chronicles of Riddick I settle on Red Dead Revolver. During the whole transaction the guy is telling me how there's message boards on the internet discussing this deal and that the corporate offices know about it. What he was telling me didn't bother me as much as the way that he told me. He was a complete jackass about it, which really, really pisses me off. I'm headed to the Wixom and Novi Blockbusters today to see if I can unload the final 12 of my PS1 games.

We all knew changes were coming, and if what this jackass was describing is a new policy for all stores, it has certainly changed the face of the deal. Guess I've just gotta revert to the old PS2 sports titles and stop trading in games that I bought preowned from Blockbuster.

He's not saying what you're doing is wrong or that you should feel guilty about doing it. He's just warning that Blockbuster may yank the deal early if they find too many people abusing it. However, there's also the mentality that you should get what games you can before the deal is yanked, so there are still people out there not showing any restraint. It's just a matter of how you feel.

For those of you who bring in games from EB or GameStop, you can get MGS2 and Madden 2003 (both for PS2) for $5 each at GameStop, plus a free game after B2G1, and BB pays $7 and $3 for them, respectively. So, for $10, you can get a cheap game from GameStop and an expensive one from BB.

Since you've bought this game from here before and have also traded it in before we can only give you $10 in store credit for it
That way they are at least breaking even... you can't be too angry that they won't let you cheat them out of $10-$15 bucks....

It would be awesome if this deal was permanant, that's one reason I'm a little angry with those that are heavily abusing it... it's really up to each person to choose though.

Yeah I got banned from my district for "manipulating the system." I would go and trade in my own ps1 games and then get some $40 preowned games, then trade those in at another BB, and get store credit. I got around $180 in games and $85 in credit before I was banned.

I got into an argument with the store manager asking her to explain what was illegal about what I did. I love how I can get banned from 3 stores for just participating in their deal. Of course I was taking advantage of them, but it was well within the realm of their deal. What I did should of been pretty obvious to gamerush execs as a potential flaw. I just find it messed up that I can get "banned from trading", without prior warning or anything.

I might call the district manager/state manager to discuss the situation with him, and get myself unbanned. Or I might just make a new card.

how did you manage to get banned? i have a couple of gamerushes around here and they have nothing to do with eachother. if i have credit at one, there is no record of it at the other. there is no record at all between the stores so you musst have pissed someone off.
