Sales Rumors/Upcoming Deals

There will soon be an additional 300+ items added to the 50% off sale that is currently going on. A list will be made available on here when GR's finally get the email (current expected date 4/20).

Okay, I think I saw the list of new titles that are going to be added to the 50% off clearance, but I'm not 100% certain that's what the list was. Call me 95% sure at this point. The prices for these games will be active tomorrow if they are indeed 50% off.
Thanks, Pickup Incredibles (PS2) $10 today at GR. Also, Dynasty Warriors (PS2) $25 not $15 :(
Wait, these prices are already in effect? I thought ship said tomorrow (Weds). If they are already in effect I might pop in there tonight.

gizmogc,

Do you know that this is the end of Gamerush or are you only speculating? I have quite a bit of credit, not sure if I should use it or not.

He's speculating :D. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's the end, but the signs are not encouraging, at any rate. Just called and they got no shipment at all in today, so I'll hold off till tomorrow to check out the sale (and hopefully get either Metroid or Brain Age then).

I know that it's all speculation at this point, but I'm wondering if it's really worth sitting on a pile of credit and waiting to preorder a PS3 or Revolution. As bad as GR has been lately, and given that both consoles are likely to be scarce at launch, I'm becoming less and less confident that I'll really get one if I preorder.

Well, after they got Xbox360's I thought we'd be OK. Of course, recently my confidence in them has been shaken. I'd hate to tie up $400 in a PS3 preorder and then miss clearance sales in the mean time, only to find out too late when they go out of business that I can have my credit back :D. But still, there will probably be some time that you could use your credit to get store clearance items before they shut down. If nothing else you could probably make your money back and then some on that stuff. Yeah, you might not end up with a PS3 at launch, but that's no big deal to me.

And of course, you could always use the credit to rent movies for the next few years .

No...not speculating. All GR's will eventually get rid of most/all new games. There is no profit in new. They will eventually be 'down-sizing' the GR stores to get rid of the 'new' area. This was a plan set into effect 2 years ago if GR did not succeed.

Well I did report here that at my GR they said they were thinking of downsizing the new game section, so that fits with what you are saying. Though they made it sound like a local decision, not part of some sort multi-year plan. They can still do that, though, by clearancing out everything over 1 year old and then continue to get NEW games in. Their current sale isn't anywhere close to achieving this though :D.

A store can't just 'decide' to downsize. The 'Powers That Be' tell them too. When the PTB tells them to get rid of new...they will.

Here's something for you guys to think about. When was the last time you saw an employee over at GR? Was he at the Trade-in Counter? When was the last time There were 2 employees over in the GR helping customers? Are there even any GR Managers left? Most have been converted to Blockbuster ASM...The end IS coming.

If GR shut down we still have Blockbusters. As long as Blockbusters around, i have not worry to lost my trade-in credit but i down it. Thought GR getting better and better ;)

Doomsayer! Doomsayer!

I actually agree with giz.. Gamerush is die'ing and it's not doing it slowly either. Now I love Gamerush, they give the best prices on everything. Sometimes you just have to face the truth though, and the truth's that they're crumbling...

And I'm just saying that they can't even do THAT right - if they want to get rid of the new games, then get rid of the new games - not this half-assed clearance that they are having. Either it is incompetance or there isn't a plan to phase out all new games and only sell used ones. I'd go 50/50 on that. Hey, I changed my avatar for a reason :D. (by the way that's a real street sign - 10 points to anyone who knows where it can be found).

And gizmo, since you know all, which is it? Are they getting rid of MOST or ALL (you put both) of the new games? I could care less if they downsize to get rid of all games older than 6 months, as long as they continue to do preorders and get new ones in. Now, that hasn't been going well recently, but who knows. And if they do that it isn't THE END OF GAMERUSH it is merely a change in store layout and inventory. No big deal really. Now, if they decide to stop selling new games entirely (except for the pathetic selection most Blockbusters have) then that IS a big deal, as they are really no longer GR anymore - they're just a regular BB. But you're popping in here now saying this isn't speculation and it's been in the plan for years, etc, etc. First, what EXACTLY is going to happen? And second, why did you hold this info from us before? :D Or perhaps you are speculating based on some old info from when you worked there?

The bit about no one being at the GR counter has been true for at least a year, if not more, so basing anything on that is speculation. They haven't staffed that thing since I started trading there last January at least. Every once in a while I do see someone there, but generally just on busy days (Sat night for example). They pulled the GR-specific hours about a year ago. At the time it was a bad sign, but it didn't seem to cause any problems for a while. We were all worried they'd be gone last summer/fall. The end may be coming, but it is a matter of WHEN - if they make it another year as GR I'll be happy.

I'm not even worried about GR shutting down or downsizing. I'm just getting wary because they've been so unreliable about getting preorders in on time (or at all) lately. I don't think I'm going to commit several hundred dollars in credit to a preordered console that I probably won't see until five months after launch.

I'm not quite as fired up about the 360, but maybe I'll end up using my credit to get one after some more games come out. Now that I'm thinking about it, the fact that a premium would end up costing me less than $200 in real money makes it seem a little more attractive. :D

And of course, you could always use the credit to rent movies for the next few years .
Oh, HELL no.

I guess I'll believe it when I see it. I know there is a LOT of speculation here, but the GR by my house seems to be functioning correctly. I see employees behind the GR counter. They STILL get new games all the time also.

I'm sure we'll know when they are OFFICIALLY going away...which may be sooner than later. I just hope it's around X-mas time this year, since I have about $350 in credit there.....PS3 for me

NEW new games seem to be doing well for them. They only have so much drawer space, and no new games have been put out on the shelves since I started visiting them 6+ months ago, so obviously they're selling a lot of what they order. And frankly, GR doesn't seem like the place discerning customers would go to pick up that two year old game (for the most part). If they continue dealing in used and preorders (and maybe a couple copies above what has been preordered), they'll be fine. People will preorder games, trade them in, etc.

I'm fairly certain that if they completely dump new games, used game trades and/or sales will drop. Since most people don't exactly track trade-in prices like we do, if someone buys a game at EB or GS, where do you think they will go to trade it in? It's about more than making money, it's about giving people a reason to continue to visit your stores, which BB/GR desperately need. Stagnating inventory does not do that. Not that I have been given any reason to think that their executives have enough business sense to realize that.

In my area, at least, the GR section tends to be fairly strong. I've only really had one or two preorder glitches. Granted, I don't own a DS, so maybe that's why I have a decent track record. Now, I typically don't get into the management structure of the places I shop, but I'm fairly certain my primary story still has GR management. If she's a BASM (heh), it's in title only.

If anything, the last few times I've been in the store, it has seemed more like they are trying to improve the image of GameRush as a legitimate game retail option instead of let it stagnate. This may only be a local effort though.

(BTW, was the Angel reference in the first paragraph intentional, or accidental? ;))
Did the "new" 50% off sale actually start today...any confirmation?
Yep, today.

Add these to the list (50% off price listed):

PSP: Gripshift $10

PS2: Super Monkey Ball Deluxe $10

GBA: Spongebob Squarepants: The Movie $10

Yep, the games I listed are definitely 50% off. I might have to pick up GripShift if I see one at another GR.

And on a side note, in typical BB/GR fashion, these new games just came through as a standard price change. The only catch is none of the prices changed at all. So with no instructions as to what this list is for, I'm guessing that a lot of BB/GR's will just ignore it and most of these games will never see sale stickers placed on them. This could be good if you are waiting to buy certain games at the 75% off sale.

Edit: So relevant information isn't lost in the muck below: My store had just received Top Spin 2... I will check when I call back to see if that was the DS or 360 game, but I hadn't seen mention of either in this thread yet.

Alright, for anyone who cares about the neverending Tetris/Metroid saga, here's the latest update:
Got a voicemail from the DM last night. There are three reasons why my store may not have gotten the games

1) Human error - didn't fill out the preorder form correctly (probably not)
2) Human error - put the wrong part number in (probably not)
3) Corporate didn't look at the preorder forms correctly and ignored my store, or something along those lines (maybe?)

This was from the "head game guy at Blockbuster," whoever that might be.

Neither really answers the question since it took three weeks for any store to get the games, and they seem to be trickling in elsewhere (and he says that once a game comes out, it will be everywhere across the country within one or two days), and there were ~5 copies of each game on order at my store, but I guess it's a start. End result is he can get the games for me (there's even a used copy at a Cleveland GR already that he can secure), so I guess that will work.

I figure I'll ask him about Odama as well when I leave him a message, given that the game is already released everywhere else and they have a new release date of May 5th.
perhaps you should just write off GR/BB and find new hunting grounds.

the horse is dead and surely has been beat.
That's my job, though I figure some of this is useful information for everyone, since this isn't the first or last time games will be late.

And if I didn't have store credit and four open preorders, I would have moved on.

Anticipating responses like yours was the reason I put the edit on top followed by a disclaimer, but I guess it didn't work. Solution: Spoiler tags! :D

I picked up Men of Valor-Xbox today for $5. Thanks OP! It was stickered at 29.99. Shipwreck you were dead on about these games not getting restickered. I'm really looking forward to the 75% off days that are coming.

Has anyone played Mario Party Advance? Curious if that concept translated well to portable. I could see picking that up for ~$7.50 when the 75% hits. Gamerankings doesn't think to highly of it with a 59, but any opinions would be appreciated.

Haven't tried it yet botticus. My GR hasn't gotten (NDS) Brain age in yet. Of course it is asking too much of GR to have a new game in since it's only Wed isn't it. Have any of you guys seen it?

I'm going to head over there in an hour (Tetris showed up ), I'll see if they got it today.

Sweet, I was waiting on Gripshift... Now, like Shipwreck suggested, do I chance the 75% or just get it now... I'll definitely chance the 75% on Super Monkey Ball DX (already have both GC titles). But that 75% is still over a month away.

I agree with Botticus - it's easy for people to pop in here and say "move on", "write 'em off", and then disappear into the night. But some of us have a bunch of credit AND open preorders (I have more like 10 still!). Plus, for some of us, it is the most convenient store (in terms of location and hours). My GC is in the same area, so I can go there if need be, but EB/GS aren't as convenient.

Just got back from GR they had
Brothers in arms RTH30 ps2 xbox $10
men of valor xbox $5
Jade empire reg $10
ninga gaiden $15
and i trade FSW ten hammers got $27 and fable LC $7

I picked up SSX On Tour (GameCube) for $15. Yeah, baby! I just wish it had Toad in it. Have yet to play it. Thanks to the person who mentioned it for ps2/xobx.

Had them look to see if DarkWatch or Tony Hawk's American Sk8teland (DS) was on their list. Neither of them were 50 percent off.

Yeah, I figured the GameCube version would be on sale as well. Good to hear.

In that case I have one more reason to go, even though I haven't finished SSX 3 yet... haven't seen that one, but it could be stashed somewhere.

Awesome, just picked up XIII, Killer 7, and Timesplitters 3 for $25.
There were 3 copies of Killzone in the rack but it wasn't 50% the guy said. I also found a few copies of Y's, but weren't in the bin.

Is Project Snowblind for PS2 $5 like the Xbox one?

This may be a stupid question, but how do we get GameRush to honor the prices that are not marked as sale items yet? For example, should I suggest they cross-refrence some download they have received recently or should there be a master list already printed out by the store manager? I ask because I was unable to pickup the $9.99 Xbox controllers the other day... I realize the price has to be manually adjusted, but would like to point them in the right direction because they are unlikely otherwise to put much effort into it.

All of the sale prices are already in the computer system, but they don't come up until they hit the "Total" button. There are no manual adjustments.

That makes me very sad . I preordered that game WITH the trade 2 preorder deal and paid $30 for it :D. Oh well, I wasn't quite so sad when I went in and saw that they didn't have any GC copies at my store today anyway.

Picked up Y's for PS2 for $19.99 and Gripshift for $9.99. They need to clear out a bunch more PSP titles - it is the only system for which they have multiples of every game. I probably could have held off on Gripshift until 75% but oh well...

Was quoted $1.50 for Rise of Kasai - apparently this fetches $6 at EB/GS so here's one case where the GR trade-in price sucks.

I took up Roufuss's suggestion and dumped 5 of my CC fodder games (that I was saving for a GR trade-in deal) at EB for the extra $10 bonus. Got $19 for Turok, Mission Impossible, Rogue Ops, Eye Toy Groove, and Metal Arms. I would only get around $10 for those at GR, and most will probably end up being excluded from any trade-in deal that MIGHT come anyway. Basically, then, I can turn those 5 games into Brain Age or something (which of course GR didn't have though it is on order - no Metroid or Odama either).

Botticus - EB had a more up to date release list and Lost Magic comes out next week, but Mage Knight has been bumped to OCTOBER from it's original release scheduled for yesterday :D. We'll see how it goes with Lost Magic - maybe being a non-Nintendo game it will actually show up. They also showed a Death Jr game for the DS and Death Jr 2 for PSP in October. Wierd, never heard of either of these before. I didn't bother to see if GR had them for preorder yet :D.

Thanks for the update. I'm not horribly surprised about Mage Knight, considering, as I think you mentioned before, there's almost zero information about it anywhere on the net. Here's hoping Lost Magic restores my faith in preorders.

Next time I'm in, I'll have to see if Mario Bros. is in the system yet.

No, the systems don't allow searches by price, at least not when I worked for the company. That was a while ago, but I don't recall seeing a new POS system.

Seems a bit odd XB Ninja Gaiden at $15. Is it regular or Black?

It's the regular edition. Black is still $30 at GR.

If you wanted to play Ninja Gaiden Triology you got to get Regular version. You must get Ninja Gaiden Back If you wanted Hurrican Pack 1/2, Easy mode, and Ninja arcade game.

In the new list, is Megaman X Collection the one that is 50% off? Since Megaman Anniversary Collection was already listed on the original list.

No, it's Mega Man Anniversary Collection. It wasn't 50% off for every system originally.
