That's kind of what I was thinking as well. Companies are just manipulating gamer's excitability about new shit and most are too dumb too realize it.
It's a business and that's the best and fastest way to make money.
I'm not apologetic, I just want to work in the business (on the marketing side) and I know this works. I don't like preorder bonuses, but they're there as an incentive to the mainstream people to want to buy at certain places and I may not like it, but completely understand it. I don't give a fuck about ads in-game, I have no problem whatsoever with them. I see them on tv and in periodicals all the time and now that the gaming industry has grown I think that it's time for them to make that leap and put them into games.

You're right, it would help if development would be scaled back, it is not going to happen unless another industry wide crash occurs though, and I do not see that happening anytime soon.
Ok, that's nice. I already know that you understand how it works. I'm pretty sure all of us here understand why they do it. We're not retarded. Understanding why something is happening doesn't make it something that should just be accepted. I'm a consumer and because of that I'm going to want what's best for a consumer. If you do get into the business maybe you could look into other, more consumer friendly ways to go about this instead of just turning into another suit completely disconnected from your customers. Also I like your "since gaming is bigger it's time for them to lower their standards to the shit we see on TV" argument. I don't think I've ever seen that stance before...
I hope your fiancee takes a shit on your stomach.
I don't know why, but for some reason that made me laugh a lot.

If I could get real life ads in games and not pay for DLC, I would be cool with that

(Been playing SSX 3 today, there is a 7up ad on here)

I'm not saying you or anyone else was retarded or stupid, I'm just making it clear that I understand (and as a marketing guy I have accepted it), I'm really, really sorry if I offended you or anyone else during this discussion (and I'm not being sarcastic). Also, I wasn't saying that gaming should lower their standards to become the stuff we see on tv, I was saying that we should accept that ads now instead of putting up a fight so the gaming industry can flourish. Sure, it may be weird now, but I'm sure ads were weird when people first heard them on the radio and saw them on tv, too.

Anyways, if I ever get into the business (doubt I will) I'll be sure to look for something that'll actually be something that hardcore gamers like.
Wow. I like Yang much more than Yun. I like Yun's appearance better than Yang's. I need to get AE on PC so I can do a model swap.
The rekka input and the crossup dash... much better. ^_^
Yang has better mix-ups anyway.

Wut.

Reporting back on Demon's Souls. I'm actually really enjoying this now. I died before I reached the first boss, but I got some sweet loot (including the two rings).
Kinda pissed that I lost all my souls, but I have to kill all the same enemies to get back to where I was, so it doesn't really matter. I just really don't feel like playing that whole shit again :(

You can pick up all the souls you lost, so long as you don't die before you get there again.
(1) Use the thief ring and creep like a muhfucka.
(2) Learn to use ranged combat wherever possible; Arrows and magic are your friends.

Yeah, I just got the thief ring, so I'll be all good. I didn't get to go back to nexus to buy any spells :(
I have around 30 bolts and a crossbow, and I've been using them. Hopefully I can make it back up to that merchant before I run out (I doubt it)
It's a business and that's the best and fastest way to make money.
Doesn't change the fact that they are screwing their customers. Like Rei said, the current business model is unsustainable and things will either change or crash.

If there is a gaming crash I don't think it's going to happen for at least another 10 years. Honestly, I could see there not being another crash again ever as long as we start reeling it in a little bit on dev costs or go in with the ads like I mentioned earlier.

My controller's rumble started working again, awesome!
Yeah, I totally agree. I wonder if they're going to bring it to consoles?
Nothing has been said yet, but most of those fixes seem to be PC oriented. I think it costs money to push out an update on consoles too, whereas on Steam, it's free.

EDIT: When I say "costs money," I mean the verification process with MS and the bandwidth from Sony.

I might actually get DNF now on PC when it drops in price, this patch seems good, since you should had been able to carry 4 weapons from the start

Do it, the PC version doesn't have the issues the console ones do and this patch just makes it even better. Makes me want to play it again just to see these texture upgrades while blasting aliens away with my sweet ass load-out.

PC version is always superior, always. I mean hell, Limbo is cheaper on Steam then it is on XBLA

Eh, Resident Evil 4 begs to differ, but the mods can make it better than the console ones. If you count emulating RE4 on the PC via Dolphin with the Wii controller, then hell yea.

Started up Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet and it's a lot of fun, but it's too damn dark. I was stumped by an early "puzzle" because I couldn't see the slightly lighter path that I was supposed to take. Had to turn up the brightness a bit and I might still turn it up a bit more.

You're right, it could be a little pricey.. Maybe they'd be able to sneak it into the download for the map pack? I hope so. That'd definitely get me to buy it again.

Edit: Hey, would it be better for me to get a monitor for my new gaming rig or should I just hook my new tower up to my TV?

Or if they put it into the map pack they just announced, FAC members like me could get this "secret update" for free ;) (that is, if Gearbox decides to sneak the update into the map pack)
Tribes Ascend come out next month and is free-to-play, so I'll just wait for that.

Up to you, it all depends on what you prefer. My monitor is better than my TV, so I keep it hooked up to my monitor.

That new Bleach game is getting decent reviews. I'll probably pick it up sometime later after a few pricedrops.

Spent most of the day stripping all of the contents out of DVD cases...never thought I would be THAT guy but I bought a giant DVD wallet from Amazon to store them...saved all the covers/notes in case I flip flop on this decision. Compressing 2 33 gallon bins down to 2 ziplock bags and a CD walllet feels good so far.

Also finished Back to the Future yesterday..didn't really enjoy the way they teased the sequel at the end aside from Doc dropping the line
What do we turn into assholes or something?

Okay, could you guys please give me some info on what a good monitor under $200 would be? I've never bought anything that isn't a laptop, to be honest and would appreciate the help. The tower I'm getting is nice, it's $235 at Wal Mart and comes with a blu-ray drive, Windows 7, and a $50 rebate. I'm figuring I'll use the money I'm getting back to get a decent graphics card, but I don't know what kind I should buy for that either. I just want something I could play Batman on (I would love to try the mods).
lol $235 Walmart PC.

I bet that thing is fucking junk that'll break down in 6 months.

Please show me which one. I need some amusement.
It was on the clearance wall in Electronnics.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-p6813w/16595252?_mm=TopOneGiantItem

That's it, but little sign under it said it also had the blu-ray drive and the rebate. They had 9 of them all marked the same price, so I don't think it was a mistake.

Not too shabby actually. At that price, I'd be tempted. Put that bitch to work as a file server.

Walmart clearance is weird like that. They were clearing out 120 GB 360 HDDs and black controllers here the same week they got released.

Yeah, my old Walmart used to clearance games pretty regularly, but I've never seen them clearance a desktop before. I thought it was a great deal considering I'm pretty computer illiterate and couldn't build my own.

Would you suggest getting a better video card or anything so I could play games?

fuck yes I would.

I'm going to guess they aren't tossing in a great power supply in that tower. Most off the shelf ones I've seen come with something like 350 watt PSUs. So you'd either have to buy a lower GPU that doesn't take much power or upgrade the PSU as well.

PSU = power supply unit.
That actually doesn't look too shabby, and that is a big hard drive
Yeah, it's actually the biggest harddrive I'll have ever had. :D
fuck yes I would.
What kind would be good? I'm not really looking to play Witcher 2 or anything too big, I'd like to play Arkham Asylum or maybe Arkham City, though and it doesn't have to be on highest possible settings or anything.

Yes. You'd have to open up and change out stuff for both the PSU and the graphics card.
Yes you'd have to open it up to change it out. I'll look up a few cards and give you some suggestions.
Okay, thanks a lot, Hank! :D

I knew it for the graphics card but I just wasn't so sure about the PSU. I used to have a friend that I just paid to do the customizing for me, but I moved and he died so I'm kinda just now learning how to do this stuff.

Nearing 69% in Just Cause 2...AGAIN. Roughly half a percent away. I should be able to reach 75% tomorrow, then I can focus on getting the remaining 9 cars I need.

After I finish it, it's going to be back to Assassin's Creed Brotherhood

The problem with those pre-built PCs is that the case might not be able to take PSU upgrades. Like I said MIGHT not, some will, but we won't know until you open it up.

I do have to say the price is nice, however not a fan of HP. They have been using shitty shitty parts in their systems. Sure it looks nice, but their product quality is crap.
