GGT 243's Dawg Died Because of CAG 3.0

After reading all this new console stuff being said, I'm with Frosty 100%.

The only game in that lineup I could be at all excited about would be Fable and after Fable 3 I don't even want to think about 4. Plus, I know it'll be on PC eventually. The only things that could make me want an Xbone at all would be Crackdown 3 or Dead Rising 3 (if it was exclusive). Given that DR3 would likely not be an exclusive, I'd probably not be getting one for a long, looooong time.
Yup. There's a new HD remake of the original Fable coming to 360 in the Fall with achievements. It will probably eventually be on Steam.

I agree, Dead Rising 3 is not likely to be console exclusive -- Microsoft would have to think it's the key to moving consoles (and I don't think it is, really... it's kind of a niche game that polarizes people). Even with games that would make MS consoles king of everything (exclusive CoD would do it -- if Xbone was the only place to get CoD: Ghosts... but Activision will not shun the PC and PS4/PS3/360 revenue no matter what MS is offering... they'll just say "well, you can get the map packs 6 weeks earlier on XBL consoles"). The only third party game that immediately comes to mind as being "console exclusive" is Monster Hunter at the moment. And in the US? Most people don't give a fuck.

There was no Skype yet. I have no idea what happened to Josh.
Whoa, seriously? I had no idea about the Fable HD thing. I may pick that up on release if it looks good enough. I really loved a lot about the original Fable. Oooor I may just start up Lost Chapters since I have it on Steam. Again, completely agree with everything else you said.

Aww, hope nothing happened to him. Was looking forward to catching up with him and (hopefully) Mikey on Skype.

With that said, where I see the crux of the issue is here: Xbone is essentially moving to the PC-DRM model, with one significant difference from PC gaming --> while both require you to install and have a license, Xbone will never tell you what your license key is. And that's where the difference comes in. Because they want to prevent you from doing as you can with physical media PC games (if you are honest and sell your game and your license key and remove the installs from your computer, you can sell a PC game... backup copy will do you no good without pirating a crack or another serial/keygen) it's probably very likely Xbone games will never say "here's a serial key for your media, remove this from your account when you sell it or it won't work for someone".

The sad thing is they don't even need to give the keys. It could be a fully online system that could work something like this.

1. Buy game, log in and activate it to tie it to your account. Game won't work if you don't do this. No need for daily check ins. It should just keep working after installed and tied to your account.

2. Let users log in and deactivate games. Which will uninstall them (but keep games saves etc.) and free up the game to be be sold/traded/gave to someone else. Be it passing on the install disc, or digitally transferring the license. That person can then install it and log on and link it to their account.

That's how digital content should work--be it games, movies, ebooks or whatever. It limits it to one person/account at a time just like a disc or paper book etc., and also lets the person sell it if they so choose--while ensuring they no longer have access to it (just like if they sold a game disc, bluray or paper book they didn't make/keep any copies of).

Hopefully the courts will eventually apply first sale doctrine to digital goods (I know the European Union did recently) and we'll get digital systems like the above.

But that is too easy, makes too much sense, and is ok for both the consumer and the publishers. No drama, no way.

Unfortunately, I don't think the courts here are that progressive...

I know I'm probably in the minority here, but my biggest problem with the Xbone is the DRM because it means I won't be able to share games with my brothers as easily. My family really doesn't have much money for games and if it wasn't for the ability to gameshare on PS3/360, then my brothers would probably almost never play newer video games aside from Halo or Call of Duty. DRM is always the first thing I look at when buying a game because of that. I really only see this hurting the market in the long run because sharing will be so restricted that people will be taking a lot less chances on new IPs.

A killer game lineup of Kinect originals, by all accounts -- several sources, including the Dorito Pope have mused that the majority of the "original/new IPs" are all likely to be Kinect titles. That leaves 7 games from established franchises:

Forza

Fable

Halo

Gears

Ryse

*Rare IP* (Perfect Dark again? Banjo?)

Any way you slice it, I'm still not impressed.
This is why I wouldn't mind a crash. MS is just churning out sequels to that. Sony with Uncharted, Imfamous, Gran Turismo etc. Third Parties with CoD, Bioshock etc. Nintendo with the same franchises for 3 decades. Need something to shake things up.

Well, since you can have 10 log ins on one account that have access to the game library, that may potentially work out better for you situation.

Downside is, best I can tell from the MS release and Neogaf discussion, only the main account holder and one of those ten sub accounts can play games in the library simultaneously. But even if that's the case, at least you and one of your brothers (or any if they just share one log in) could play any of your games at the same time.

See, that's even worse, though because it's locked to a single console, right? I would want to be able to put it on their console too, because we really don't have any sort of entertainment room where I could put my console and my bedroom (where I currently keep my console) doesn't have enough room for a comfortable gaming environment. If I can allow them to play the game on another console (not saying I'm buying 2 Xbones, I'm not moneybags), then that would be incredibly helpful. I bought them a PS3 earlier this year just for that reason and the fact that I can share all of my digital games with them has quickly made it their favorite console.

Nope.

That's one overall benefit of this crap. You can log into your account and play any of your game library from ANY console. It's not clear whether that means you log in and download them or can play them from the cloud somehow.

But with the family account thing, they can be on different consoles for sure, and apparently the main account holder and one other sub account can be playing at the same time.

Well, if that's the case, then it's the one thing I like. Now if they could just make it so I didn't have to go online once a day to verify them I'd be one step closer to buying one when it hits $200.

There's so much I don't like about Xbone that I don't think any game would make up for it.  What good is HYPE GAME X or whatever they show at E3 if I have to jump through all the fricken hoops to play it?

Unless it's Kinect pr0n.   :p

Wait, I just read that you won't be able to rent games at all for Xbone. Is that true? Seems like a major mistake to do that.
That's up in the air.

An MS official (or the statement--have read to much) said that renting and lending won't be available at launch, but that they are discussion options with their partners.

I'm guessing rentals will happen someway. Be it a different licensing system for rental companies, or doing it themselves online (download and pay a daily rental fee) etc.

But this is all definitely a clusterfuck.

I don't rent games personally--no need to with just sticking to AAA games I know I'll like (unlike Jer!), but seems stupid to turn their backs on rental revenue, sales that come from people who rent first etc.

It's like dmaul and Frosty were discussing...the DRM is left up to the game publisher, not M$. In theory, Gamefuly could still rent the "tradeable/saleable" game discs. However, M$ is assuming not every publisher will be as Draconian as EA or Ubisoft or (insert evil publicly traded corp here).

Eh, I don't know. Maybe it's cuz I got used to the white one but the dark theme just looks...eh. The white theme wasn't really that bright for me cuz my TV automaticlly adjusts for brightness or something. Maybe.

And thank you guys for the kind words yesterday and stuff.

Sorry I haven't said anything. I like to appear apathetic.

Uninstalling Chrome.

I think they fixed the jpeg double post trick.

I'm hurt.

CAG sucks again.

I'm wondering how many times I'll be able to perfect you if you let off the [] combos.

Hopefully you won't rage quit again.

I had meant to text you but got sidetracked with other stuff. I apologize, sir.

I have an ass.

You might actually be able to perfect me next time. It never happened last time so... you know, yeah?

Did it never happened because I haven't put it on youtube yet?

It took like three months. I'm sure I can wait a little longer.

Oh. Uh...okay then.

I miss the dots underneath the avatars. I like dots. I don't like these numbers and feedbacks or whatever. :<

Dark theme is nice, I feel more at home.

I hope the quoting stuff gets improved I still hate that.

Oh.

I see you didn't send me one. That's okay though.

It's coo', aight? I have Indig for that anyway.
Sorry, i didn't see this. Urm, i guess if it makes you feel any better i'll add you to psn and steam. Eventually.

Agreed. Dots are way cooler and way more gangsta.

The boxes seem a tad bitter now. Multi-quoting is easier too maybe I don't know I didn't do it much before.

I liked this.

Oh hey youtube videos work again.

Thank Gawd, I was almost afriad that I was going to have to stop posting Leda videos.

Damn I ended up reloading the "Fortress Besieged" quest like 4 times because I couldn't see/aim at the goblin snipers properly and they kept destroying my ballista before I could really use it.  If you can take the snipers out with the ballista intact, it makes the rest of the quest much easier.

The dark side never looked so good. Maybe this 3.0 isn't the end of the world. I still believe someone is spying on me.....oh wait, thats just Obama.

Next gen sucks.

Those XBONE confirmations. :l

Taken from NeoGAF:

  • No renting, no loaning. No private sales (unless selling to someone who has been on your friends list for 30 days)
  • Console Checks in Every 24 hours
  • Trade-ins are up to the publisher and only at participating retailers
  • You can give a game to a friend only if they have been on your friends list for 30 days, and then it is stuck with them.
  • Up to 10 family members can play your games from any console at any time

Wow xbox must REALLLLLLLLLY hate used games. I wonder how many publishers will say fuck gamestop and not even allow them to trade in games there

Have to imagine trade ins will be up to the publisher on the PS4 too. Hopefully just not with 24 hour online check ins and the other BS MS has in place.

I'm guessing the big publishers won't allow them at all for some set period of time. First three months, six months, whatever to force people to by new at the time when the game is selling the most it ever will. Then go ahead and allow them as getting some credit will get people buying more games--hopefully their games.

A game industry collapse seems plausible now. There is so much money involved in these new consoles and AAA games, a couple bad releases could trigger even a giant like EA to topple.

Yep.

And as I said last night, that wouldn't necessarily be bad thing.

MS and Sony need a power/ego check. Publishers need a wake up call to realize people aren't just going to keep buying sequels and rehashes for ever etc.

Kojima is a cock riding asshole and he'll probably be solid snake in MGS 6 so you might as well keep it.

here dawg

Publishers set the DRM now and Sony has said it will allow them to do so on the PS4.

The main question here that's answered already on the Xbone is this: "Does the PS4 require gamers to install your new physical game disc to your PS4, like you would on a PC, and if so, is there any way to deactivate it?". We know the answers for Xbone are "install required, you can give to 1 friend of more than 30+ days and up to 10 other accounts designated as family can play it whenever".

So unless publishers opt to use the cross-buy digital Vita copy model for their own games (buy Sly 4 or Sony Smash, pop the disc in, register the Disc on PSN, you get the digital version of the game tied to your PSN account and the ability to associate the disc with another account is gone, I believe), this shouldn't be an issue. Even then, the game only has a 1 time use bonus feature, not a register the disc to your account so you can't trade/sell it.

Again, possible, but seems highly unlikely to me at this point.

Wait, I just read that you won't be able to rent games at all for Xbone. Is that true? Seems like a major mistake to do that.

Again, this has nothing to do with what the publisher chooses. Renting, based on the description of the current system, is likely to be impossible and it's got nothing to do with what a publisher chooses -- when you buy ANY game for your Xbone, it seems it will install and tie to your account permanently. So if GameFly sends you the disc -- when you send it back to them, it's useless, since the only way you can get rid of it in that list is to give it to someone who has been on your Friends List for 30+ days. Based on the stuff there, unless Gamestop/Amazon/Best Buy are working with Microsoft to develop some sort of digital trade in program that skirts the rules as we know them, GameFly/Gamestop (et. al.) are getting fucked along with the consumer here.

Finally some good games.

Fun fact laura bailey is in three of those games. Whoknows didn't know that I should be #1 fan

This is only true to a point.

I'm ridiculous about re-buying games I've played and like. I've purchased some Final Fantasy, Zelda, Super Mario, DMC, RE, etc. games multiple times. I love HD collections.

The problem here, IMO, is that sometimes developers just cash in on the sequel. "Oh, this worked well and people bought it last time. Let's just kind of play paint by numbers and hope it sells again." This isn't the 1990s where Super Mario World (SMB4, basically) blew our minds. The problem is that the sequels are uninspired and have lost the magic. :\

Now someone tell me how I put the lights out on CAG, please?

(How do I enable the dark theme?)
