The demo was cool, but I think I'd get bored or frustrated so $40 is too much, even with access to Gears beta if I get 360. I figure I'll be too busy with KZ3 for my FPS fix anyway.
My guess is it'll be cheap sooner than later, so unless you're itching for the Gears 3 beta and think $40 is about right, waiting is the better option (IMO).
My PS3 is currently getting prepped for it's brain transplant. 1:38 left on the backup. Hopefully Sony fixed the

Let me know how that transfer goes. I was going to upgrade my hard drive.
You can turn off the live auto renew online. It's a bit of a pain to find on your own, but there's instructions on how to do it out there that Major Nelson posted.

edit: Nevermind that link. Looks like they changed the website. Let me see if I can find a way to do it now, as I need to turn it off on my account as well ($40 year bought on the dashboard last fall just kicked in the other day).
Edit 2: Looks like calling is the only way to cancel it now--and some say they won't turn off auto renew at all but make you cancel your account so you have to wait until it's near the end. Though that seems to be YMMV.

I only renewed on the dashboard as you could turn off auto renew online at that time. This will make it much more like that this is my last year of Gold. Mainly only have it for Netflix anyway as I'm not big into online gaming. Should just scrap it and get a Roku box or a new Blu-ray player with Netflix built in.
One of the many reasons I don't pay for Live.
