Grand Theft Auto IV - Gen. Discussion & Info
Not sure if this qualifies as a spoiler or if it's common knowledge at this point, but I'll hide the details just to be safe:

Apparently there's a
comedy club
in Liberty City where you can go to see
Ricky Gervais perform some new material
. Amazingly cool.
Ricky Gervais = The Office = Just became a must buy.

That guy is motherfuckin' hilarious.

"Expected to increase hardware sales and lower productivity around the globe, GTA IV is 11 days away from retail and our excitement couldn't even be described."

lolz, so true
"Expected to increase hardware sales and lower productivity around the globe, GTA IV is 11 days away from retail and our excitement couldn't even be described."

lolz, so true
that's probably the most true and best release statement anyone has said in a while.

The graphics aren't going to look amazing compared to games made on a smaller scale/scope, but from what i've seen so far, the lighting in the game is going to be fucking amazing. Yeah, there will be some jaggies and such, but come on, they're rendering an entire city in the background basically! Can't wait. Pre-ordered today since my Best Buy GC finally came in.
Have they announced whether this game will have load screens while crossing cities or sections of the cities?
I read they worked very hard for no load screens whatsoever.

"So how are you spending the next 11 days?"

Decided I'd play the old ones again, never played Vice City, hey I didn't have a PS2, so I've been playing that one and laughing at all the blocky graphics. ^^ Can't wait for this game and I'm gettin mine shipped overnight thanks to Amazon Prime.^^ 11 days, man...

the city has no load times.

And for those that continually ask me about the gamecrazy exclusive faceplate (i'm looking at you, yukine, 3 PM's and counting), no, not every store is getting the faceplate. I think just the ten on Kotaku that were listed.

Saw this on GTA4.net today....
Lazlow speaks, gives impressions and comments on GTAIV.
Some SLIGHT spoilers included....

Yesterday saw the opening of pre-registration for the Rockstar Social Club, and despite some technical issues, the launch was mostly a success; thousands of gamers quickly swooped in to secure their Social Club membership within less than an hour of the Social Club going live. Also occuring yesterday was Take Two's annual (albeit brief) shareholders meeting, in which an announcement from Take Two confirmed that Grand Theft Auto IV has "gone gold" with production in full swing.
Today also has its fair share of GTA IV perks. Lazlow Jones -- a lead writer, radio host, and long-time fan favourite who has been responsible for much of the dialogue and content found within most Grand Theft Auto titles -- appeared on the Opie and Anthony show earlier today to discuss his role in the development of Grand Theft Auto IV. While he touches on much of what we already know, he also goes into more detail on subjects that haven't received as much blatant coverage (including the downloadable content for Xbox and Rockstar North's inevitable "one month vacation" after GTA IV's release).
Here's a summary of some of the info that Lazlow covered on the show:
 • There are over 100 radio commercials in the game.
 • Announcements on the subway system will randomly alert you of spontaneous police harassment, security checks and searches.
 • The faux-beer brand "Piswasser" takes a jab at Budweiser, including a radio commercial sung by Anthony himself.
 • GTA IV's in-game internet is ridiculously extensive, featuring spoofs of liberal and conservative news sources with coverage of your in-game antics, as well as spoofs popular blogs and websites (craigslist, for example). Irritating pop-up banner ads also make an appearance.
 • Niko can hook up with a wide range of girls via dating websites.
 • Injuries mean much more in GTA IV. When Niko gets shot in the leg, for example, he'll begin to bleed and limp.
 • Recording sessions for dialogue and in-game audio went on for ten hours a day, five days a week. The entire process took weeks to finish.
 • Rockstar employees have been working overtime and well into the weekends to complete the game.
 • Between the Xbox 360 version of the game and the PS3 version, Lazlow admits that he prefers the 360 version thanks to the downloadable content; new missions, new characters, new comedy, etc.
If you want to listen to the show, a couple of clips from the Lazlow interview have been posted on YouTube (Part 1, Part 2). The full episode is also available through Audible.com for $2.50 USD. Thanks to Planet Grand Theft Auto for the heads up (and subsequently "Vanilla Shake" for sending in a synopsis of the interview).

Only with a GTA game could I ever get excited by the news that "there are over 100 radio commercials in the game". But yeah, that's just one more thing I can't wait to experience. The in-game internet sounds like it will be cool, too.

I think the thing that excites me the most is that we will see patches released for this game as more bugs are discovered. No longer will they be limited to a 3 MB patch like on the PS2. That means this game will only get better with time :D

Funny, I didn't even think about that, but it would be great.

I simply didn't envision a 'fixed' GTA game.
It's street dated. In fact most stores will probably have it on Wednesday.
Good to know. I was torn between preordering at Gamecrazy who always have their games the day of and preordering at Toys R Us because I have a $60 gift card. I went with TRU so I wouldn't have to spend any money.

actually I don't think so. It's going to have a similar smash/halo3 launch where you come on monday (28th), wait for midnight and pick it up that night when it hits the 29th. I highly doubt we'll have to wait till wed at all.

Nice video, at first I thought you just slapped a new soundtrack to the video but I see now that you had some work in the editing department. I've studied media studies so I can say that you did a really nice job with the cuts, pace and tone of the video within the boundaries of the song.

Need some advice guys.

GTA IV or Textbooks? As a student I am extremely cheap. If I buy GTA IV first, then my aunt is going to have to pay for them. (Kinda awkward and not exactly great making your relatives pay for something.) If I buy textbooks first then I can't get GTA IV until 2-4 months.

WTF are you talking about?! If you are seriously thinking about putting a video game before your education, then you are in trouble already. You can wait for the game, dude.

And why is your aunt buying your books? Do you not have parents?

If you're asking a site called Cheap Ass Gamer, I'm sure you have some idea what the answer maybe...

Do an odd job, mate.

Seriously, you blow your money on games over textbooks now, in the future you can't buy as many games anyways. That's what's important.

GTA will be great, but it will be great a month or two afterwards, too. And surely there's someone else who'll have it.

If you really want it, take up an extra night shift somewhere. It couldn't take too long to work up the sixty bucks.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. Well my parents are currently living in Spain.

My original plan was to get the money myself and pay for the books avoiding the awkward conversation between me and my aunt. When my parents were visiting they were suppost to take care of any financial things involving school, but only took care of tuition and food expenses.

I'm actually surprised at how many of you replied because this is clearly a little off-topic.

I'll help a bit. Are you still offering Call of Duty 2 Game of the Year Edition for $10? If so, i'd love to have it and my PayPal is verified. It's not much, but you can buy the game for roughly $55 shipped at familyvideo.com i believe using the $5 off $50 coupon.

Depends on the classes for me. There have been some classes where I paid $80 for a used book and never even opened it and then sold it back to the bookstore for like $20. Since then unless there are like specific things that can only be found in the book, such as math homework, I won't buy them.

On the other hand, there's always the option to rent the game and get a quick fix in there somewhere.

Do what help1 said. Go here, fill out the stuff, do two offers, and order GTA IV. It's that simple.
