Hurricane Katrina
Weather forecasting is still really difficult, especially for tropical systems. That is why they never try to really predict much past 72 hours, and even then the track cone is still hundreds of miles wide.
Come now, we all know Hurricanes are actually alive and go where they want to. ;-)

:)

I am surprised no one has played "Rock You Like a Hurricane" on the news yet.

Nice touch. :)

Man, I just really hope things don't turn out as bad as it seems it might.

A hurricane following a weather forecast is about as likely as a hurricane playing by someone else's rules besides its own. Which they would never do. They play by their own rules, no one else's. Not even their own...

Fox News has the most hilarious coverage I've ever seen. Worth a look if you haven't been watching.

I have been flipping between Fox, MSNBC, and Weather Channel.
maybe it'll kill that horrible owner of the new orleans hornets, what a jerk off...screwing the people of new orleans and lieing to them
He is the Warriors fan's savior. I'm glad he cheaped out and traded B. diddy for a couple of role players and/or expiring contracts.
Watching MSNBC. Can't stand Fox News.
Why not? You can't stand the fact Fox is always wrong and have no clue what they are saying? Or is it that they care more about gas lines being fucked up instead of people who will die?

Got my home boarded up this morning (live in town of Semmes just to the west of Mobile but well enough inland and above sea level that the major concern for me in all these hurricanes is the wind.
My location is right on the edge of the "cone" and am expected to endure 70+ MPH winds... of course this happens RIGHT after I get my pool crystal clear for the first time since before Ivan hit last year (hit just to the east of me as a Cat 3)... fuck

This storm is insane, when Jim Cantore on TWC pointing to a few Biloxi casinos I am well familiar with and saying they probably will not survive this storm... I normally gloss over coverage in hurricanes, but with this one it is different, I pray New Orleans fares well in all of this, but I am not optimistic.. the Superdome is expected to hold upwards of 30,000 and it is unsure whether it can survive these winds, but at least it is tall enough to provide a higher ground refuge

You have to wonder if it is weakening abit or if it hit one of its weakening cycles before it strengthens again. Did that make sense? Someone suggested that on Fox News.

In any event, no matter what happens, please save your cheapass collections!
j/k wish everyone well
Only on Fox news would they refer to the possible outcome as a "disaster of biblical proportions".
Actually they just made that same quote on MSNBC. They said that human waste and coffins (no joke) would be floating in the cesspool that New Orleans will become. It would be a disaster of biblical proportions.

I did not make this up, that's what they just said.

Did anyone see that Oil Storm movie/mocumentary that was on FX a few months back?

Its almost eerie how similar some of the things that are happening are to the events in that movie.
MSNBC just got word that crude oil futures have risen to a record high of $70 a barrel.
Maybe we need a new forum:

Cheap Ass Gas

It's gettign weaker, the pressure rose a bit, and it's down to 160, so that is good news. A lot of stoms weaken close to land, so lets hope that continues.

Katrina will still be Category 5 once it hits land.

If this hits squarely on New Orleans, I would think it could be the worst destruction we've ever seen from a hurricane. It's below sea level, and covered with water.

So then, Burbon Street would actually be clean for a couple hours? That's impossible!!

If you call 15 feet of sewage infested water with uprooted coffins from cemetaries clean, then yeah.

Ok so basically what he means is cleaner.

Go in front of the camera and hold a CAG sign to prove it's you. :)

It's RA but it works so whatever, if it doesn't, refresh then click play and it should work.

Damn, it's like a ghost town. Same thing happened here in Washington D.C. when Isabel hit us two years ago. When it hit us pretty hard in the middle of the night. Work up without running water, electricity, or CAG... All I had to entertain me was my GBA SP and Metroid Fusion.

Have you guys seen this NOAA weather alert from earlier this afternoon? Holy shit...

Sounds like shit right out of Deep fuckin' Impact, without the meteor.

I truly hope it misses new orleans... but really isn't this just inevitable if it does miss. Having a huge city below sea level in a hurricane zone doesn't really make much sense does it?

Wow, that's incredibly depressing to read.
omg the leaves keep moving!
Tune in about 8 hours from now to watch those trees move along with the leaves..

Hmmm, a car drove by and 3 police cars were speeding behind it with their strobes on.....

Leaves are moving now but in a few hours there won't be any more leaves, possible trees for that matter.

Tis true. I imagine once the storm actually hits the camera is gonna be knocked out, unless it's enclosed in some sort of really good....ummm.... enclosure. =)

Which I doubt.
