Hurricane Katrina
as soon as someone sends me relief for the money i put into my gas tank, sure ill be happy to help out.

seriously, if i were to donate to every disaster that strikes, i would never have any money...so how 'bout "no"

Knowing the philanthropian (is that even a word?) nature of my high school, there will be a penny drive for it. And that's right after a penny drive to help a family who's house burned down across from the school.

It's not as bad as people were thinking, so the city should live, but it still can get flooded, but I doubt it.

And the Dome thing is having some roof peices peal off and it's raining. But everyone inside is calm they say. Which is a fucking bullshit lie.

Good our power just came back on...it's not really bad in Baton ROuge right now but they have said that it's gonna get worse around noon
they said there's 20,000 - 25,000 huddled up inside the dome.. I really hope they're OK in there, if that thing collapsed.. good lord..
CNN's saying a section of the superdome roof opened up..

Only three dead so far, so that's good.. I realize saying "that's good" to three people dead is a bit.. wrong, but it could be a LOT worse than that right now.

philanthropic.

I'm pretty sure the federal government will give "disaster area" status funding to any number of the affected locations in due time. If I were a weathy man, I'd probably be a bit more generous, but due to a variety of financial constraints, I'm my own favorite charity at the moment.

Well, according to the bible, all natural disasters are god's work, probably a result of his wrath. If I donate any money, won't that put me in league with the dark one?

fuck no.

Our tax money is already paying for the rebiulding shit, why would I give more?

9-11 vituims became millionares because someone died. My dad fucking died because doctors don't know shit, I didn't get 4 million dollars.

You live somewhere fucking dumb, like the assholes on the beach, I HOPE you die, it will help mankind.

Wow, footage on MSNBC shows blown off roofs, smashed cars, down trees, boats in parking lots miles away from any water source, debris everywhere (this is in Biloxi, Mississippi). Louisiana reported flooding on the second stories of buildings.

Ya, I couldn't stay awake anymore at 5AM CST, but when I went the bed the camera was still working, apparently the camera was not tied to an external power source, it would just come back on once the power hick-up had been fixed. My guess New Orleans lost power before it was ripped off, I was hoping the photo archive would be up so I could see exactly when it went down, but the entire camera system is down.

MSNBC is using a lift to show us how high 20 ft is. How dumb do they think we are?
You'd be suprised... I kid you not, I over heard this comment at breakfast this morning. "20-25 ft? (In response to what her friend just told her). God that mean like places would be flooded up to like the 5th level (I assume she meant story)." That would only be true if New Orleans was populated by hobbits.

I'm walkin' on sunshine, WOAH OH OH!!

They really need to stop with these hurricane names... it's just not right that a storm that will so destructful is named "Katrina". Too bad it wasn't named Karlie.

Sorry to joke around... because this is very serious. I'm dreading how bad this will be. This could serious cripple Lousiana/Mississippi for months. I have a couple friends there too. I pray they are safe... and not many people lose their lives.

Fun fact: I was born in Mississippi (Keesler AFB to be exact).

ok.. every county in the Nashville area is closed (schools), including Davidson. To give you an idea, i've seen Davidson county schools close less than 10 times in my life. This is going to be really bad.

That must be pretty bad, then. Hope everything's OK.

On a related note, I don't think they have ever closed schools here. The skies could be raining acid and the streets could be filled with fire, and they would still have school here. They've had school during hurricanes!

http://www.cnn.com/2005/WEATHER/08/30/udoji/index.html

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CNN) -- In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, rescue workers searched for stranded survivors in flooded parts of New Orleans.

CNN correspondent Adaora Udoji reported Tuesday on the rescue efforts in the city's 9th Ward neighborhood.

UDOJI: More water than the eye can see. And that levee break has had some very dire consequences for the hospitals in the downtown New Orleans area.

In fact, Tulane University Hospital and Clinic at some point thought they were going to have to evacuate. There were ongoing discussions. After the storm blew through, there was no flooding by late last evening. They had about 6 feet of water in the hospital. Of course, that brought up some major questions as to whether or not their emergency generator was going to keep going.

So in downtown New Orleans, they are certainly battling their own water problems. ... About three or four miles north of the city ... there are dozens and dozens of homes that are -- have been flooded. Six to 10 feet of water.

And all night long, nearly two dozen rescue workers have been riding the boats up and down these lanes and pulling out people from their homes. Some were stuck in their attics; others were on roofs. Some had cell phones that they were able to call and tell rescuers where they were. Others did not. Some were just screaming for help. (Watch video of rescue efforts.)

Upward of 500 people are taken -- have been evacuated from this area. From what we understand, [there are] no major injuries. All very minor, except for one man broke his leg. But no fatalities at this location.

Again, the same scene taking place further west. There are neighborhoods --some estimated as many as 40,000 homes are underwater. The rescue crews are now fanning out. It has been an absolute logistical nightmare. Rescue crews getting to their equipment, getting to their supplies and getting those things to the areas where they need it the most.

And as the sun comes up today, they're going to have a really good opportunity to get an absolute sense of the extent of the damage. We've heard that over and over from officers. And they expect things are only going to get worse from here as they do discover exactly how much damage Hurricane Katrina carried with it as it blew through here.

Maybe the assholes should have listened to when they said leave the town. I say let those assholes die.

And everyone has to remember this was the best that could have happened. It just missed flooding New Orleans under 20-30 feet of water, and the winds died down to 145 from 175.

Just think what would have happened if it hit the city and the winds were 175.

now there's widespread looting in the new orleans area. the looting is so big that the police can't control the looters at all and they are backing off
now there's widespread looting in the new orleans area. the looting is so big that the police can control the looters at all and they are backing off
Not only do they not have enough manpower to ward off looters but also what can they possibly do with most of the ones they catch. Seriously there can't be people much lower than these looters. You could try to make a point they are doing it out of necessity, but what necessity requires you to clear out entire aisles of things at a grocery stores. Or what life necessity does a TV bring them? And even some reports of people looting homes... there's certainly no excuse for that at this time.

anyone saw the looting footages on cnn where ppl were taking advantage of the storm? (it's crazy if you've saw them. The stores were left bare.)
Man. Those robbers are some of the lowest forms of life on earth. I sure hope karma bites off their dicks.
And also, coincidentally, you'd like to be karma for a day. ;)

While I can't say that it's all a bad thing, I think some of the looting is by far a necessity. If you couldn't get out of the city for whatever reason - no vehicle, flights canceled, too poor, etc., then there's no way to access food/clean drinkable water for some time until rescue workers get to you. And there's really no time to think about carrying $$$ since you just want to leave the city, plus I'd bet that most of the ATMs there are underwater as well as the fact that the storeowners aren't there (they were smart enough/had money to leave) to take said $$$ that stealing is the only choice.

Yeah, they said as much on one of the news stations. An official in Mississippi said that although they don't condone it, they understand the need for people to loot food for survival but no one needs to loot Foot Locker.

Ugh, Katrina has reached the lesser Buffalo area... and my satellite is currently out, and probably will be the next day.

3+ inches of rain. Yuck.

We had a Tornado Warning one county over today, but compared to what is going on down south that was great.

My tv is fine, been raining pretty hard here (West Seneca), I live right on a creek (cazenovia creek) so hopefully it won't flood on us (which it has for lesser rain than this so, uggh..) It's amazing how flooded new orleans is, i didn't expect it to be that bad..wow sucks.

Great there goes the siren.

Ack, you live pretty close to me then.

I'm right on the Buffalo/West Seneca border, near Buffalo creek.
But, you get earthquakes, and hurricanes can also hit California, although rare.
Earthquakes, I suppose. But I'd rather have a few earthquakes than the recent constant hurricanes.
I have to say that people who constantly rebuild houses on the Gulf Coast are quite stubborn.
Good for ppl like me.:cool: Can you say CHA-CHING!!! $$$$$$$$$$
Do you rebuild houses?

Or loot people?
Option 1. The real estate company I own has a division for real estate development and it has a subsidiary that specifically deals with construction.

The looting is great..

They have people still in the city going "The cops don't care" and all the footage they show that I saw was people stealing water.

I love how this was the "best case sernerio" and missed the city and everyone went "thank god". God then went "fuck you assholes" and desided to flood the city.

What do you think of god now people!

Seriously after reading all your posts here I'm beginning to think the only asshole is you apparently. I think the cops don't care because they are outnumbered, have no place to take anyone they may arrest, and also have better things to like help rescue people. Also if all you saw them stealing was water you must've seen about two seconds of footage or just be blind and deaf.

And it's funny to see somebody who doesn't apparently believe in God or any gods (that's the impression I got at least, unless you worship satan or something) to blame him for this flooding. I'd think a more rational atheist (and rational people in genreal) would blame their poorly maintained and weak pump and levee system and the city being located in what's basically a giant bowl.
