Couldn't agree more. My college had a "co-op" program where you weren't getting any credits, but you were still considered enrolled full time and could be paid whatever was a fair wage for your skills. It usually lasted for a summer plus a semester, so most people did summer+fall. Because of educational needs, I was unable to start in the summer and delayed the start til fall semester. I spent four months in the industry, I learned a lot, while making $28 or so an hour, and the company ended up giving me an "internship" the following summer for the same payrate. Said company ended up employing me full-time when I graduated. (My only offer in a crashing job market, nonetheless.) Been there for almost 5 years now.
the difference - you went to one of the best technical colleges in the country. i went to the "most diverse" college on the east coast.
SWAT/ATF could be fun. I've always wondered about a career in those fields... if I get fed up with the IT industry.
I've often thought of SWAT also. My friends mom used to be on a SWAT team here in VA Beach, but she was one of the intel people so she didn't get to bust doorsdown and shit. Oddly enough, she is one of the better shots in the area.

that's kinda wierd, knowing about who is in swat. i'd think they'd like to keep that information quite.

I don't know why it would be a big deal. They don't really do undercover ops and if they do, they use informants. The main SWAT people just bust down doors and shoot bad guys.

Well I gotta get ready to go to school. Going to put two more shirts on and warm my car up .

i'd think that people who's doors have been busted down may have a bit of hostility. people tend to take out their aggression on the wrong people.

"i'm selling illegal drugs and illegal guns. but i'm mad at the swat team because they caught me"

I wouldn't mind running intel either, though I'd prefer to be in the action with the tactical gear on and the assault rifle in hand.
How dare the po-lice arrest me for breakin' the law! ;O
exactly. and SWAT is the first ones they see bustin in they door.

So I made this for dinner the other night. it was pretty good, but not outstanding. I just reheated it for lunch, and let me tell you, it's a LOT better. I'm using it to dip my plain turkey sangwich in, and it's damn tasty. I guess, like with stew (etc) it's better the next day because it gives the ingredients more time to mix and balance eachother.

*edit* OMG THIS IS HILLARIOUS and sadly true.

Don't forget your trigger discipline. Wouldn't want your squad leader to become swiss cheese. :D

"What the open source version is like." Classic.

Hooray for getting a job and a new router. And funky soft warm house slippers I got really cheap last night. And Wii Nooz Channel.

And for game night tonight with some friends. They are going down in Apples to Apples tonight.

My DVD burner works!

Anyway, I'm thinking of getting a new mobo and processor, but I'm not sure yet. It's just that those two parts, and the video card, are the only original parts that remain from the Dell I bought in 2003. I don't want to spend a shitload of money, just get a nice upgrade.

Oh yeah, the processor in there is a Pentium 4 2.60ghz thang.

I have found that "girlfriends" and "AIDS" are also hilarious additions to anything.

Viscous? AIDS!
Juicy? AIDS!
Underrated? AIDS!

What game are we talking about? And how is it played?
What game are we talking about? And how is it played?
Apples to Apples.

Let's say you have 6 people. One person is "it" so to speak. They turn up a green card. The green card says something like "angry" or "spongy" on it. Basically some random adjective for the most part.

The other five people are holding 7 red cards, and they all have different things on them, normally nouns. So one person might be holding: Princess Di, Oranges, Adolf Hitler, AIDS, boyfriends, cats, and Football.

These other 5 people all choose a card from their hand and place it facedown next to the green card.

The "it" person then turns them all over and reads them out. Then they pick out what card they think fits best. Whoever gave that card gets to keep the green card, which is like getting a point. First to 7 points wins.

So example round:
Green Card Drawn: "Cheerful"
Red Played cards: Johnny Carson, Puppies, Ice Cream, Charlie Manson, Grapefruit

You can either be silly and choose Manson, or you might really think ice cream is cheerful, or you might just really remember Carson's laughs and smiles. Whichever is chosen as the "winner," that person who submitted it gets a point. The "it" then switches to the next person in line (so it rotates clockwise normally).

At any rate, the game is highly nonsensical and non-sequiter. You can be serious or silly with it. This makes for a lot of when you are playing with sharp people. You might get a hand where none of your cards fit necessarily with the card that was drawn, but you can still play. There's also variations on the game if you want to try them - for example, the last person to turn in a card doesn't get to play, making it a "speed" game variation. And you want to play a card even if they don't really match, cuz otherwise you can't get a point.

A game can typically be done within 20-30 minutes.

If you've ever played Balderdash, it's a lot like that, except you don't write out definitions yourself. You just sort of "submit" them.

Anyway, great party game.

I can't believe my boyfriend didn't give me AIDS for my birthday.

Dkellar, do you do any plumbing, or know anything about it?

Specifically, fixing a water faucet so that the fucking water doesn't shoot off to the side, instead of straight down?

yep, there are definitely some classic apples to apples games.

The biggest problem is when someone picks the lame answer, and doesn't have a sense of humor.

Say for uplifting, they pick sunsets over AIDS
what the hell?
Next time they aren't invited to play.

Is this a board game type thing that you can buy in a store, or is this a game that can be drawn up while trashed and at someone's house in 10 minutes or so?

ROFLMAO

Mouse: Available B&M. Seen it at Target, TRU, and Barnes and Nobles.

I imagine you could make it up yourself, but there's seriously like 600-800 cards or so in the box. That'd take a long time to make.
Caw.

Gotta watch Saw 3 tonight.

Does it suck?
Saw it in theaters. It's ok but it gets pretty annoying after a while because you don't really sympathize with the characters.
Dkellar, do you do any plumbing, or know anything about it?

Not really, I need to replace the kitchen faucet in the next few weeks since it leaks and just sucks in general. If it is spraying elsewhere than straight down, I think I might have something to do with the nozzle. There should be a unscrewable nozzle on the faucet so you could put various adapters on it (water bed stuff, etc). Try playing with that, maybe that would help. There could jsut be a leak somewhere within the faucet. There also might just be to much water pressure for that faucet.

I got to head to work now, try using google for answers or possibly some clue as to why your faucet hates you. I more than likely won't be home till after midnight again.

I may just go ahead andf reverse engineer the kitchen sink tonight. We'll see, anyways, later OTT.

To be honest I really enjoyed the first, and I liked the plot of the second. I bought the third because I've liked the last two, but I haven't heard amazing things. Ah well.

As for board games, I can't find the site right now, but there's a great site I got from a friend on KoL that has board games made my I'm assuming just... people, that you can buy on the cheap. Let me see if I can find it.

Edit: Here.
I dont think I quite understand the situation:

I've already tried CLR though.

Sixers: Good site, but that company makes their own games. I.e., you wouldn't find them carrying stuff they didn't produce themselves. So Apples to Apples wouldn't be on there.

Just sayin'. Still a cool place.

I've got this fancy tome from Reader's Digest that involves all manner of do it yourself business.

I have yet to actually try USING it for anything. Most of the stuff in it is scary.

Oh. I thought it was, like, user submitted games (a la threadless w/ clothes).

Oh well. Still some interesting stuff.

I need to pick up Mad Gab, that seems like an interesting party game.

If you remove the screen/cap off the nozzle, it probably behaves correctly but without real water pressure, I'd wager? If that's the case, just replace the screen... they should be pretty cheap and it should be easy to match up to a new one if you bring the old one to a hardware store with you.

If the faucet behaves the same once you remove the screen type deal, that sounds like something has decayed or built up inside the actual plumbing inside the faucet, in which case you'd have all sorts of fun with replacing the entire faucet mechanism.

That's high on the list for if I ever get a 360.
I used to love rainbow six, the original game, when I was in college. Played the hell out of that on the PC.

remember to pick up some "plumbers tape" which is like a teflon tape that coats the threads to help prevent cross-threading and leaks in the future. it's like $0.50

Sweet. I found out about a great deal going on right now. I was able to exchange my SDA which is still under it's year warranty until Feb. 1st, with the the DASH for free! Just had to talk to customer service and ask with phones I could replace it with.

Actually $0.69

at my store anyways.

And strell just take off the whole cap nozzle thing on the end of the faucet, they are called aerorators. Take it down to your local hardware store so they can match your threads up and get the right size and everything and that should fix your problem. Cost should be $7 max.

Nice upgrade swap.

I think I am going to have to get Lumines off XBLA arcade. Probably will pre-order Halo 3 to get the 5 dollar point card to take the sting out of the cost.

Is the Advanced pack worth it and how about the rest of the content? I don't really care for puzzle games, but this one has me addicted.

God, I suck. I just got up from a 3.5 hour nap. Remind me to set the alarm whenever I take a nap...

I was gonna see Pan's Labyrinth around 2:15 before deciding to nap, now I have to go to the 5:45...

I love the Hitman games, but I cant play them. I absolutely cannot use stealth or sneaky strategys. I end up having to kill as many people as I can.

These was this one bank level in Hitman 2 I think. Metal Detector on the outside. I walk through and set it off, and I ended up killing every copper in the place right there on the steps.

Clearly you werent supposed to handle it like that. The guys kept piling up and the system started lagging real bad.

I'm thinking the same thing for Lumines, though as I already pre-ordered Halo 3 @ EB, I may just go down the $5 off route @ BB for $14.99 cards. I'd rather not get stuck with Halo 3 @ BB for a cheap card.

I love playing that way, and usually do that for shits and giggles after beating a mission the real way.
