5+ hours in (I'm not playing it that often) and Valkyria Chronicles 2 still feels like it's in Tutorial Mode.

"Now here's how you do a tank battle." "Now to teach you about night combat..."

Conception's gimmick sounds interesting as far as gameplay goes, but the whole dating sim element screams Japan!!! At least the setting in the sequel is more fantasy than real-world, and for the most part, the girls don't look any younger than the marriage candidates in any given Rune Factory game.

That said, to me at least, Conception II gives off a very strong "wait and see" vibe.

I've only always played the first ten minutes of Vagrant Story like four times.

I'll start it up again with you guys but I mean my Graces playing might get in the way, you know?

I don't even think you remember what Graces even is.

Three Days Grace?

Conception seems weird but I'll pick it up. It's Atlus, it can't suck, right? Should look nice on the Vita. ^^

Ah, seems you're right about that.

Either way the combat seems nice and from the videos I've seen it seems to run at a stable framerate, which is always awesome. I can see how it's not for everyone. I probably wouldn't get it if it wasn't for the fact I'm desperate for JRPGs on the Vita.

This might be old news to some, but I'll just drop this off. An FF7 NES 'remake', video looks pretty cool.

I could never will myself to beat vagrant story. I probably quit 5 times after getting to the forest.

Haha, this is a great tid bit from the Vagrant Story in-game manual that I didn't know about:

-By equipping strong armor, you can greatly improve Ashley's resistance to magic. While this reduces damage from magic attacks it also reduces the effects of beneficial healing magic.
- Unequip Ashley's armor for best results when using healing magic.

Also, they list "Remedies" to beneficial status effects, haha. Which I guess means if you cast Dispel on yourself you would lose any buffs in addition to negative status effects (I don't remember ever buffing myself in this game though). Also, don't worry guys, if you cast Regeneration on yourself you can move to the next room to remedy things, haha.

As someone with an admittedly irrational love of the game, I'll concede that the Snowfly Forest is still a pain in the dick.
I quit playing after beating the Earth Dragon at that part. Didn't fully grasp the crafting system,so I probably wouldn't have made that much more progress. Should give it another shot.

Why have I never heard of this conception game? Time to get the first one on PSP...

Speaking of which, I beat Pokemon Y, finally. In Japanese. Yay, I beat a Japanese RPG in Japanese.

I'm going to start Vagrant Story once I'm done with some school assignments

Before I start the game though, are there any tips anyone can provide? I know that you should only have three weapons (forgot which ones they were)

I dunno about only having three. There are three physical specifications (blunt, edged, and piercing) but it's good to carry enough of equipment to build new affinities on the fly. If you want to stay on top of your game, be ready to be swapping equipment/gems, buffing, debuffing and using appropriate counter-elemental fusion spells. I tend to have a designated Human, Beast, and Undead (usually a silver dagger or some shit) weapon early on.

I have a meeting, but I'll post more shit if I think about it.

Alright, thanks! I'll keep my eye on a post from you (since I've never played this game before, so I have no idea about anything)

I'm generally not the kinda guy to recommend hitting up GameFAQs, but the Vagrant Story board is one of my holdouts over there, and home to some of the last polite/ reasonable posters on the site. The FAQs and the users there are super helpful if you guys feel like really digging in to the mechanics. Beamup's work is especially good.

I don't know where else to ask this, so I'm asking it here as I recall FTL/roguelike discussion in this thread long ago...

Anybody put any time into Risk of Rain? I read some good things, but no overwhelmingly great reviews. Once Banished drops I'm putting my time there, but I thought Risk of Rain might be worthwhile if CAG thought it was very good.

I hadn't heard of this before. Going by what I'm reading on the site, it sounds sort of like Rogue Legacy (btw, if you haven't already, you should totally play Rogue Legacy).

Man, I really tried to get into Vagrant Story.  The setting and art style are great (love me some Ivalice) but I just couldn't deal with the actual gameplay.  Got about halfway through before I gave up and followed a youtube Let's Play haha.  (which is what I just did for Digital Devil Saga 1.  I'm a terrible person)

Never got around to Vagrant Story tonight (schoolwork took up more time than I thought it would). I have the day free tomorrow, so I'll start tomorrow

Obsidian yeah yeah whatever. That's like... so 15 years ago.

Okay, you can go back to talking about that company with the Diablo rip-off game.

Haven't played that, but I've been addicted to the full release of Desktop Dungeons lately for my roguelikelikelikelikelikelike needs.

And now playing Mass Effect 3 for the past month or so feels like i waste of time. I really didn't enjoy the game as much, there were fewer crew members to interact with, the plot felt too similar to Dragon Age.

And the ending came down to just choose Blue or Red. (I'm not even going to bother installing the extending cut, and sitting through another hour or so of that boring Earth mission again)

Any particular reason you didn't install the Extended Cut?

I wanted to see what all the fuss was about the original ending first.

Now after having played through the game, and that boring long ass earth mission I don't really feel like going back for just another extra 5 minutes or so of video.

P4G has been $24 on Amazon for months now. I keep waiting for it to drop just a few dollars more.

Of course I need to finish Valkyria Chronicles 2 and Unchained Blades on the Vita first.
