This.

I sold or separately boxed the few Mega Bloks sets I had a few months ago, just to avoid such contamination.
I had a ton of Tyco blocks mixed in with mine too. I finally separated them out, along with some Mega Bloks I had and gave them to my friend's kids. I'm sure they'll find a much better use for them.

The Tyco blocks seemed to be much better quality than the Mega Bloks though and the colors were pretty close to the original Lego ones.
When did the Apple Tree House become damn near impossible to find. Closest TRU that has one is 110 miles away!
Yeah TRU was all sold out, was hoping to pick up a PoP set that was priced with it.

TRU didn't have any markers for PoP sets, just one, and I know I saw all of them on the Wed prior.

Maybe they didn't have that many....seemed like only 2 or 3 per set. Should have bought some, and did a return/rebuy.

Nice, I was actually going to buy the upcoming General Grievous set that came with a mon calamari in order to get that minifig (never could justify rebuying Home One) but that'll save me a nice amount that I can put towards the Slave 1 re-release.

Hm, Battle of Alamut is listed as "In Stock" on Amazon.com. I might go that route if I can't find it in stores here. I have some credit coming for Amazon anyways...

I can confirm that POP at TRU qualify for the BOGO 1/2 off sale. I got the Atlantis turtle set for $26.99 ($29.99 at S@H, shouldn't this be the other way around???) and then the ostrich race for $10. Also used that rewards coupon for $5 off $25.

Great set, comes with an extra dagger and claw accessories too I believe (always nice when LEGO adds duplicates of the rare pieces)

Hm, GG is currently listed as "Sold Out" on S @ H.

Is this temporary, or really gone indefinitely? In any case, I'm glad I got one...

Sometimes things are sold out if they are not sure when a set will come back, but it could be back tomorrow even, or never.

None of the retailers that carried it have it in stock anymore, so I would guess that it might be gone permanently.

However, I also thought it's going to be discontinued before, or right after, Grand Emporium is released, but I was wrong on that account.

Still in stock the last time I was at the local B&M LEGO store ... tempting to pick up a 2nd set for collector/ resale purposed later on but I'm kind of on the fence about it.

Ok, thanks for the feedback.

I stopped by TRU after work and damn if they didn't have PoP sets on the shelf...at $4-9 markup over S@H prices!

Battle of Alamut was $92.99 and Quest Against Time was a ridiculous $57.99. The only sets that didn't have a markup were Neptune Carrier and Gateway of the Squid. I didn't want those, even at 50% off (mainly a space/storage issue--I'm trying to only get the sets I really want unless there's a really great deal on them), particularly if I have to pay a premium on the full priced item. They had some older TRU exclusive Pirates and Power Miners sets that I considered, but ultimately decided against it since they too were marked up pretty high all things considered. Oh well, easy come, easy go.

Wow crazy, the prices must have just been raised ... as they were ringing up at msrp last week. Stupid TRU ... god knows what they'll do with the bagged minifigures.

Weird, they're all still MSRP on the TRU website ... of course they're all out of stock. Guess I got really lucky with my purchase.

It's probably just my store because it's Hawaii. I wouldn't necessarily call it a cost of doing business here because not all items are marked up like that. :/

Yeah I would guess with HI and AL being a tad more expensive because of transportation.

That sucks.

Though I'm worried that TRU may get stupid and place their tax on those minifig bags....

Going to have to watch them like a hawk.

Haha, my friends went to the lego store in Roosevelt Fields (its open! but grand opening is April 9th which I will attend to build the 8ft Buss Lightyear!) and got me an atlantis keychain and a minifig ice cube tray!

So, I know this isn't the place to ask this, but since you guys are also lego enthusiasts, maybe you can help me out. I've recently been buying vintage lego boxes on ebay, but the more I look, the more I find.

For clarification, I mean these boxes: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150424393537&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I'm trying to find a comprehensive list of how many in what color, but I can't even seem to find that type of box online. It's obvious they exist, but i guess my search-fu is weak

edit: I found some under the search terms "vintage lego briefcase" but it only pulled up a blog post

What's annoying is that they do have "MSRP" priced Lego--Neptune Carrier, Gateway of the Squid, the TRU Exclusive Farm set...they just purposely markup the popular stuff or the stuff that they know people are going to buy 'cause it's brand new (like PoP) or hard to find. :(

As for the case/box question...have you checked Bricklink, Lugnet, etc.?

Aren't you worried about those boxes breaking though? I used to have one back in the day and as I recall they close with 2 pieces of plastic that snap down onto two little raised plastic pieces on the main case. Guess I just can't imagine that type of mechanic would wear well over 20 years. Cool if you can find them in good condition though I guess, I wish LEGO had some nicer storage options for us currently.

I currently have 2 of them (different sizes) and they're in immaculate condition. I've been purchasing the k'nex boxes that are of similar build and they're perfect for holding larger sets. I am worried about them breaking (the older ones), but the plastic they're made of seems to be fairly durable. They still flex like they're supposed to :)

http://guide.lugnet.com/set/783

there is a section for Storage but there really isn't much.

Sorry to bug.. but does anyone still have a link to the 10 dollars off a 20 dollar purchase kmart coupon?

I've tried searching the thread but can't find it...

Also, if anyone happens to live in the Queen Creek, AZ area they opened a new Fry's Marketplace and they are selling buy 2 get one free on ANY Lego sets.
Wow, isn't that Creator House from 2007?
That's why I'm surprised it's at that price. The townhouse set on Amazon is over $400 through a third party seller.

Edit: Actually, I just checked it again and it dropped $5 from last night! This is my last day of Prime so I ordered it. 700 pieces for $44 isn't bad, although I'd prefer tan with black roof pieces rather than white with red.

Oh, I did some light googling and the average price for that Creator House is somewhere around Amazon's price. Doesn't seem to be a very popular set. Also, the Creator houses generally aren't in minifig scale, so I'll pass.

Kinda OT, but I built MMV last night...I was missing a number of significant pieces, some to complete the cows, and a couple of key bricks to complete the blue house/tavern (chimney). :( Luckily I had some spare parts, but they weren't the right color/type. I had to request replacement parts from Lego--hopefully within 3 weeks...

Their quality control must be going down. I was missing 4 pieces from the Green Grocer. A couple of 1x6 tan bricks to build the walls too. I had to steal pieces from an IJ set, and request the pieces from Lego. Luckily, they have great customer service.

Doesn't all the replacement parts come from China, my last two did...

They are still quality bricks but just, it takes forever...

I'm liking the Creator home, but didn't really want to spend 44 right now... wife would like it but she want's the Apple Tree House.

I'm not sure where they come from, but from what I've been told (I've had to order replacement parts once or twice) they come from denmark. The CSR I was talking to might have lied to me, but meh, how are we supposed to know?

On a different, deals related note, I was up at 5 am (yay west coast) to call lego S@H and I was obviously too late to catch the deals. They had the magna guard starfighter for $23 and the VW beetle for $59.99.

My son would've DIED if I had managed to score a beetle (and at that price, my wife would've been pleased with my thriftiness :D)

Parts come from all over: Denmark, Mexico, Czech Republic, USA...I don't know how much actually comes from China, though.

That S@H deal on Beetle and Magna Guard....I was up late and I didn't see anything. This morning, there is no evidence on the sales and deals page either...meanwhile that stupid listing for Vintage Minifig Collection 2 continues to mock me with it's "Look at me!!! I'm $4.98!!1 >Psyche< Sold Out!" :p

It seems only some of minifigures come from China, like Chess/checkers, the collectible minifigures and Toy Story. Most of the bricks are still made in Europe and I have no clue what they do in the Mexican plant (Hide from the drug war?).

I find it weird sets are missing pieces because that's an easy weighing thing, my problem with newer sets is LEGOs colors suck, they still don't match. It's been years since they have switched to the new way of coloring the bricks and they still get it wrong.

I blame the Lego Robots. Maybe they are just a bunch of over-sized MindStorms toys. ^_^

Looks like Amazon now has estimated ship dates for the new PoP sets: April 14th. I'm going this route since I have credit there and maybe I can get in my Gold Box on top of that.

TBH, I like the ’07 creator house more than the apple tree house. It took longer for me to build the ’07 house than the new one. The main house also has a unique feel to it, unlike the apple tree house, which looks kinda plain IMO. The ’07 house had the gutters, the porche, arches, etc. I do like the blue roof pieces though, I was getting tired of seeing all the red roofs :)

Oh and what’s up with the lime green baseplates on the apple tree house? I was expecting the dark green like all the other ones.

Well on my last two purchases, the parts did have China writing on them. the package and the slip that had the parts list.

Can't remember the postage, but if my MMV has any missing parts... I'll find out!

What did you buy?
That S@H deal on Beetle and Magna Guard....I was up late and I didn't see anything. This morning, there is no evidence on the sales and deals page either...
Yeah, those were the weekly phone specials, sorry I didn't specify that. They don't advertise the phone specials online, only way to get them is to call when they open (8 AM eastern)

Though, lugnet usually posts them (even though the GOOD deals are usually sold out right away).
What did you buy?
I guess not "buy" but the last one I remember was one of the Mars Mission trike, that had a couple missing pieces.

I ordered replacements and they were at least 2 weeks, and the package was from overseas.

I can't remember the other set... but it was from the same place.

So what you just say hey do you have any phone specials when you call?

I wasn't going to, but now I think I'm going to pick up a couple of Ambush in Cairos from my local Kmart's B1G1, if they are still available.

It would match well with the PoP sets.

I haven't had a problem with any missing pieces yet despite buying quite a few sets over the past few months. I actually put together 5 army men sets during the last two weeks and all of them had the exact same amount of pieces.

Speaking of the army men set, I found something weird about the minifigs. The first two sets I got 2 or so weeks back had the normal black necks, but all the minifigs on the 3 sets that I bought last week had white necks. Personally, this is the first time I received minifigs with white necks.

Nice, I just received notice that I won a Max Lego minifigure from the Lego In-Store VIP contest! I'll try to go over there sometime this week to pick it up.

Regarding missing pieces, I haven't really had this problem before either since MMV was the first "big" set I obtained and put together. I'm pretty sure this is just a numbers game as obviously the odds for missing pieces increase the more pieces are included!

As for the black printing, my understanding is it's really nothing beyond when and where the piece was made. At least, I haven't read otherwise.

Wow ... I'm shocked that bigdaddy is currently under investigation for selling stolen goods, according to the main page ... who would have thought
