Lumines Live! - Drops to 800pts This Wed. + Holiday Pack 20 Skins 400pts October 17th
disco. This is an experiment, but a poorly designed one. Posts here and elsewhere point to one consistent problem: people have no fucking clue what they're getting with the base pack, or the advanced packs.

MS/Q are spinning it as "user-friendly" because it allows people to decide what elements of the game they want, which they don't, and purchase accordingly. The problem, of course, is that people are so goddamned confused because of the ambiguity of its promotion that it's uncertain what people get in any of the packs. As a result, people will buy the advanced packs, and perhaps not use the additions, because they feel they need it in order to have a (1) "complete" game, or because they think it's simple (2) "more game," so it must be good and/or necessary.

You can't pride yourself on the results of this experimental marketing when you have completely befuddled and uninformed consumers.
This a great point. In cutting up the game in so many parts, customers will have a hard time underdstanding what they are buying.

What are the chances that your casual Xbox 360 (the guy that doesn't read video game websites) can figure this shit out? I mean, if we are all confused, where does that leave everyone else?

By the way, this is the 1st XBLA game in which I am unable to "beat" the trial. Hizzah for suckage! ;)

Oh and if you want to read comments from some pissed off customers, head over here:

I have to say, I only understood it cause I'm familiar with the game. I don't think it would be too difficult to figure out if you spent some time with the Base pack.
but you shouldn't have to...the descriptions need to be more explicit.

The lag in this game isn't so bad. I've had Lumines for PSP since launch and got bored with it after about 7 months of playing everyday. But after DLing this and having the vs. online it's like a whole new game. The other factor that put it over the edge for me was the fact that I could use my DoA arcade stick with it. I'm currently ranked 149th but I want to play some CAGs (Casual or Ranked) send me an invite or PM me on here if you want to play sometime.
Is there a two player mode in this game, as in two people on one console?
I think so it's called local battle or something

The lag is bad for me, but I can play it. I just have to time everything differently. Still, it screws me up at least once or twice every match. I kinda don't like how you can only play the skins that both people have unlocked, but I guess that saves the time of uploading to the other guy.

but once I get going on Live games, I can't stop! I made into the top 200 yesterday, of course I've probably been pushed back pretty far by now.
yeah there's a two player mode on one console
wait you can't play this over live against other people? fucking weak

oops read it wrong heh.....Man i was gonna say! I"m in the middle of moving so i dont have my 360 set up right now but man when i get it back online your all DEAD! Assuming i'm the Lumines champ i was in chicago.....

 seems like alot of games with Live enabled modes seem to get you hooked easily. Kinda like how you said you were a DoAU whore for a few months.

Is there a good online guide out there discussing tips for this game? I've never been really good at puzzle games, but I'm getting a hang of the game a little bit. The checkered squares still screw me up though.

Actually I noticed that within the game, if you go to Help, it has a really nice tips tutorial, exactly what your looking for.

only good ones :) Nothing has hooked me like DoA:U though....played about ~80-85 hours in 2 weeks when it launched...yeah

I can't tell how long this will hold my interest though. They need to fix the lag so I can play the game for real on Live. it drops too many frames to really time anything or make split second drops.

Decided to grab this after all using the Points Card for $4.99 w/ 360 game at Best Buy next week dealy outlined earlier in this thread.

I really don't want to support this but it would be like getting Lumines for $4, so I'm not going to pass it up.

I just tried the trial, I don't see where people are saying the control is off... the analog stick worked just fine, finished the trial on my second try once I get into the Lumines mindset.

Surpringsly, the game looks really badass in HD... but is it true that songs from the PSP version aren't in? I really liked Shinin and Shake Ya Body and it would suck if they weren't in there.

the second song in the trial is from the PSP version :)

there are a few here and there. a lot of the good ones, haven't seen Shinin yet. could be further in the advance pack.

I didn't get far enough in the PSP to recognize the song ;)

Game is still awesome, can't wait until Best Buy's sale tommmorrow.
Shinin was the first song on the PSP one...i think, i think he means Lights.
I meant the 2nd song in the demo is from Lumines on the PSP. Then, separately, I haven't seen Shinin' yet, though I have about 11 more skins to unlock in Advance mode. I hope it's in there!

isn't lights the last song on the PSP version?

Today was my first taste of online play. Hot dam is there a lot of lag. I mean I cant believe all the lag for such a small and simple game. Also I hate how after a match it drops you back to the lobby instead of letting you play through several matches with someone. Thats stupid. I do like how you can go head to head on your local machine. I did that a lot today.

You can challenge someone to a rematch.

can someone please tell me how the fuck you play this game, in the ones where you try to make that shape, how do you do that? I read the instructions and i understand about how blocks disappear only once the line passes them, and how to make blocks dissappear, but besides that, im lost.

I have no idea how to do the puzzle mode either. Does the actual shape you make have to be all the same colored blocks? I don't even know how that's going to be possible with setting up the pieces and not having the "beat line" clear away what you're trying to do.

The main game, though, I'm starting to figure out. It's the 4th or 5th skin that really screws me up for some reason. The one with the brown and light green circles. Damn that skin.

I still can't believe how much I've played this game. I've never been one into puzzle games. Even when I close my eyes now, I see those pieces in my head.

Has anyone figured out how much it will actually cost to get the full game once all the required add-ons are bought? I'm wondering if it comes out to more than what Lumines 2 will cost on the PSP.

It will, unless they lower the expected prices of the upcoming add-ons. I think someone estimated it around 35 or 40 bucks.
Under the influence of alcohol and friends I bought the base game last night. I feel so filthy.
EXCUSES, EXCUSES...
Not an excuse, a remorseful confession.
Suuuuuuuuure ;-)

What is this game like while not in a normal state of mind? I imagine it's ultra-trippy.
i played it high last night, i was so tripping out on that one level with the dancing beans in the background.
i think those are blood cells. unless they're in the "arriba!" level  god I hate that stage!

I really like the trial version of this game. Its just a matter of time before I purchase it. I don't like all the extra purchases and add ons they want us to buy but this game is fun.

After buying the base pack and playing for a while, I like it. But when it's all said and done, the following two points really stick in my mind:

1- The base pack is NOT worth more than 800 points.

2- They really really REALLY should have made the other 3 packs available that they hyped up so much before release. To draw it out for months is stupid.
Wtf, I just bought this like an hour ago... they better refund people if they change how they are dealing with this. I could see if they changed the price like, a year down the road, but this fucking thing hasn't even been out a week yet!

MS seems to just be fucking this situation up even more as time goes on.
QFT.

refunds or I'm flying to WA and glittering the whole damn MS corporate complex.

What sucks is that I wanted the advance pack tonight but now I don't want to download it in case they change prices.

just had a match....AND IT ALMOST HAD NO LAG!!! this is front page news, imo.

I'm crazy addicted to this game. I love it. Last night I came home with new 360 games from the B2G1 sale and I still spent half the night playing Lumines. Like someone else said, I keep seeing the pieces dropping in my head when I'm not playing.

One gripe...I really think the game should let us quit out of the game and save our progress (a la Hexic). My games normally last 30-50 minutes, and I've only been playing for a few days. If I was good at it, I could see the game eating up well over an hour. That's a lot of time to commit to a game which I'll have no choice to abandon if something more important comes up.

I also would have liked some kind of randomized skin challenge mode. Something like that would have kept things fresher. It can still pretty much be done with the skin edit mode, but a randomize mode would have been nice.

I put on my head phones last night turned up some nice tunes and played for 4 hours straight, when I was done my eyes were totally blood shot from strain/stress. I love this game.

I cant get better than dam 34 on the 60s. I unlocked one achievement and one new skin last night. On my LCD HDTV it’s a mind blowing sight, its very vivid orange and white.

That email looks fishy, i'll believe it when I see it. If it were true it would suck though because I just bought it like a half hour ago before coming here to check on the Vegas demo release status. I haven't even gotten to play the full version Lumines yet since I had to go crazy Jap style for the demo.

If MS adjusted the price of this game, I am sure there would be compensation.

They aren't going to try and remedy a situation with angry customers by making them even more angry.
