I hate to be the one to say this, but what's ridiculous is not those formations but the constant bitching about them. I know I'm always the voice that reminds people that NFL teams DO run spread offenses all the time, but apparently reminders need to be made constantly. I know it's not really directed at me since I run the ball more than most of the spread offense folks (usually with limited success, lol), but I'll speak up for them anyway since they get a bad rap. Throwing on every down is obviously unrealistic, but the spread is a legitimate NFL offense which is run by teams all the time, not some kind of exploit. Saying otherwise is just stupid.
That said, we'll miss you BigAT, you're one of the classiest players in the league! We look forward to having you back for '12!
i dont think the point he (nor I) was trying to make was that spread offenses are exploits, but as BigAT said, when the first play of the possession is 4 wide and all 4 are going deep....come on. I can count o one hand the number of teams that are actually equipped to run a spread offense as a base offense but its way more than that handful doing it. I played Kay Holiday(sorry) and he ran the ball 0 times... 0!!!!!! Zurezo was notorious for his 4 wide set that allowed Mike Wallace to amass ridiculous numbers, no matter who was playing D on him. Even in the real NFL, there is some sort of balance as long as the team isnt down two scores or more. The Pats, Saints, and Colts are three teams notoriously stingy with running the ball but they find time and situations to do so and gain decent yardage each game rushing. A lil innovation and balance and realism is all i'm looking for. Playing against the spread offense 12 out of 16 games just isnt real football and i thought thats what this league was for.
