Madden 11 League-OFFICIAL CAG LEAGUE-That's all folks! Mini-tourney still coming tho!

Someone post in here when it's back up. I'm hoping it's back in time for me to at least catch the 2nd half of the Syracuse-UConn game.

I had a franchise server error after my other league game, too, but I was able to get right back in and the game thankfully counted.

Uber, the mom and sister are bugging me to play trivia games or something so if we can do our game sometime later tonight that'll work for me.

That's fine, just let me know when. It looks like we'll be held up here for at least a little while with the servers down.

I think the servers might be back up...I can finally get on the EA sports online franchise website...I wasn't able to while the servers were down.
Good eye! I assume this last game will get underway shortly?
I'm ready. Just waiting on gb.

Edit: He hasn't been on CAG or XBL for about 45 minutes, I hope he hasn't given up. I know MA pmed him a well.
So what should I do? I've got some work to do so I can't wait around all night.
Getting on now. Sorry, I feel asleep :)

Chargers 16 - Falcons 10

I don't know that I'd call this a defensive struggle as much as I'd call it a supreme contest of offensive ineptitude, a lot of that having to do with the game being played under somewhat choppy conditions (though it never got too bad).

The Chargers were able to get 289 yards of offense versus only 139 for the Falcons, though it was definitely a nail-biter throughout. Ryan Mathews was the only guy who had a truly great game, rushing 14 times for 116 yards and 2 TDs, including a 59 yard TD on the Chargers' first offensive play. Rivers was pretty good other than one mistake which was picked, going 15 of 18 for 186 yards, though both TDs came on the ground. Mathews also got several huge first downs to close out the game at the end. Miles Austin was the leading receiver with 5 for 57, but it was a quiet day for the Chargers receivers.

Ryan was 4 for 8 for 65 yards and Turner rushed 12 times for 53, Norwood had the Falcons' lone TD. Roddy White was held without a catch, though I don't think he was even targeted.

The Chargers crawl their way back to .500 on the season (5-1 outside the Division of Doom, lol). Looking forward to another 9-7 finish! :D

gg gbpackers! You definitely played me a whole lot tougher than our matchup in the other league, and this was a whole different type of game (and not one I'm really used to). Glad I could pull it out in the end.

You too. I was trying to keep the ball away from you, so I was playing pretty conservatively (8 passes). I figured the best defense would be too keep your offense off the field. Thats why I waited ~20 seconds before hiking each play on offense. It's probably the only reason the game was close, but it came back to bite me in the ass.

I figured that out at some point, you did a pretty good job of it for the most part. I'm more willing to play that sort of game now than I used to be, old bv probably would have started chucking up bombs every time I got the ball. I don't think I threw deep once in this one, which is very atypical for me. The longest ball I threw was probably the one over the middle intended for Gates which was picked. You did a very good job with your defensive positioning (or maybe you just have good corners) but my guys weren't getting nearly the space they typically do.

blahhh. so it looks like my xbox is done. the disc drive is making more noise than usual and it keeps telling me my madden disc is dirty. i popped in kung-fu panda (i don't know why I have that game either) and it was getting save errors. i think it's time to cave and buy a new xbox tomorrow. I just got a new job offer today so hey, time do some celebration spending, right?

Ravens 28
Browns 0

Game was cut short due to time constraints but in 2 and 1/2 qtrs of play, Flacco threw 3 TDs(McClain, Smitty, and Boldin) and back up RB Paul Simon ran for another. JD Nealy got a INT bringing his season total to 6 \\:D/

http://kotaku.com/5750414/what-to-expect-from-madden-if-a-lockout-cancels-the-nfl-season

so what happens when/if there is no next season? kotaku's take on how it'll hurt madden 12

With a work stoppage in the National Football League increasingly likely, Electronic Arts has said that Madden NFL 12 will be published - but the company is assuming a lockout will wipe out the entire 2011-12 season.

"In terms of a planning assumption ... we've baked in the most conservative assumption, meaning no season," John Schappert, the Electronic Arts chief operating officer, said during a conference call with investors today. "We're optimistic it can be better than that, so there's an upside."

The NFL and its players' union are at odds over the current collective bargaining agreement; the NFL opted out of it in 2008, setting it to expire with the conclusion of this season. The players want to proceed under the currently negotiated terms; ownership is seeking salary concessions and an increase in the regular season from 16 to 18 games, among other terms. The league may lock players out if the two sides are unable to come to an agreement before training camp and the beginning of the regular season.

Armchair analysts might think a lockout, if not a good thing for Madden, would at least not be a bad thing, as football fans rush to the video game to get their pro football fix, in an environment whose franchise simulation mode never deals with the whiff of labor unrest.

But while a lockout may not be fatal to the product, much of Madden's value is entwined with the current season of play, if not dependent on it.

Foremost, the game updates its rosters and player ratings each week, factoring in the most current performances and injuries. This roster is the basis for the game's online multiplayer, a tremendous component of Madden NFL and an area of participation the publisher seeks to grow every year.

With no season, no roster changes and no player progression, multiplayer rosters will largely be a continuation of the 2010-11 season, less any retirements. The 2011 NFL Draft will go forward, so the latest crop of rookie stars will presumably be available in the roster shipping with the game.

Other aspects of the game may suffer from a lockout. This year, EA Sports introduced Madden Moments Live, a constantly updated series of challenges based on the real-world performances seen in the previous week. The Madden Ultimate Team card-collection/team management/online multiplayer hybrid also published card packs that celebrated top performers of recent weeks.

These features could be bought outright, so their absence could affect EA Sports' bottom line, and downloadable content has been a particularly robust revenue stream for Madden going back a couple of years. Players also could acquire Madden Moments Live and Ultimate Team card packs for free, using virtual currency awarded for online play. The absence of a real season creating new cards or highlighting emerging superstars could also deprive players of variety in the online game modes and depress interest in them.

EA Sports' most recent comment on labor unrest came during Madden NFL 11's launch, and said only that the publisher was "working hard with our NFL and NFLPA partners to develop contingency plans so that we may continue to enable fans to enjoy interactive NFL experiences during any lockout." With more than a year's warning, it's likely the game's Ultimate Team and Online project leaders have developed stand-ins for Madden Moments and Ultimate Team's top fantasy performer cards.

This is uncharted territory for a licensed American football video game. The NFL has not had a work stoppage since 1987, which predates the Madden series by a year. (The first video game to feature a full current roster of NFL players was Tecmo Bowl on the NES in 1989.)

Madden is a powerhouse brand and sales machine for Electronic Arts. The publisher may adjust its bottom line projections to investors to compensate for the disruption. Fans may seek refuge in a virtual league where the games go on. That doesn't mean a lockout will be painless for them, or EA Sports especially.
I was about to post the same thing. Would be interesting if we played this game for 2 years...
listening to the EA guys on twitter they are all hard at work on madden 12, if there is no season how are they going to sell copies of madden 12? The only way I can think would be a heavily discounted price like nfl 2k5.

If there's no season I don't think they'll even ship it. Just take all those (minimal upgrades) and go back to the drawing board for another year. It would be a huge blow to EA if they don't ship a Madden game but it would be beneficial in a way because I'd imagine we'd have the best madden game yet with nearly 2 years of development. But I don't want to wait 2 years!

I really doubt they shelf it for a full year, even with no NFL season. Madden is the equivalent to printing money. Will it sell as well? Probably not. But I wouldn't be surprised if for every person who said they won't buy it because there's no NFL season, there will be a person who will buy it because there's no real football.

I personally don't know if I see the point with no NFL season. I might be playing Madden 11 by this time next year if that's the case.

2K was also way ahead of EA in NHL games for at least a few years, but then EA revamped the controls and general gameplay for NHL 08 and added the EASHL in 09, followed up with copious improvements to those things and other facets of the game. At the same time, 2K went from being highly praised by critics and fans alike to a distant second, receiving mediocre reviews(6/10; far from bad, but nowhere near EA's current product nor 2K's past efforts) and decreased sales to the point where this season's game was only released on the Wii.

That being said, I still completely agree with you. The bar that 2K had set for hockey was not nearly as high as what NBA 2K11 set for basketball, and something like a Gretzky version of the Jordan moments would not work considering the fact that an individual player, even The Great One, can't control the flow of an entire game like one man can in basketball. That, and as great of a goal scorer as Gretzky was, he was even better at getting the puck to other guys to give them higher percentage shots.

I don't know why I wasted all those words (as if I ever make short posts) comparing something to hockey, a sport that most of you likely have very little interest in, but I hope the junk that just poured out of my currently sleep deprived brain made some modicum of sense.

Hey guys. I'm not entirely sure how this works but I'd love to get in on this CAG league. I don't do a lot of posting around these parts but I love me some Madden 11 would really like to start playing it online more. Getting in on an online league that's as well run as this would be awesome.

It appears you guys are in the middle of playing a season but that doesn't bother me. If it is at all possible for me to jump in and take over one of the unoccupied teams I'd do it in a heartbeat. Glancing at the OP it appears that the Seahawks and Jaguars aren't taken and I guess I would be cool with taking the Seahwaks. Anyway I'll put my info down below. Let me know if it's possible for me to join in and if I can I can start playing games whenever. My schedule is fairly flexible.

I imagine that's how most of my posts read, just with the "blah blah" being more of a Charlie Brown's parents sort of noise. You'd think someone with ADD would get bored with typing well before the three paragraph mark, but nah.

SOMEONE GOT A SHINY NEW SLIM!

i'm not going to rant about how i ended up getting it or how long it took me, but just that i'm pretty pumped about it now.

4gb or 250gb?

Ramesu said he wanted to play me today (Packers/Texans), but now he's nixed that suggestion since he and Cru (Cru also said he wanted to play our game for bv's league) are going to go play basketball. I'm not sure why I was asked to play tonight if both guys are busy, but it's fine since Ramesu let me know ahead of time.

I had already told Cru I could play tomorrow if we start by 7-7:30 P.M. Eastern and that I wouldn't be available at all Saturday (Ramesu, I just now told in a PM), and obviously Sunday is going to be difficult to schedule due to the Super Bowl. I understand that stuff comes up and it's fine; I just wanted to let uber and BV know what's up. If my game in the other league has to be simmed, so be it, but my game with Ramesu is important if I want to have any chance of staying in the NFC North race.
4gb or 250gb?
250gb with Alan Wake and some racing game I'll never touch.

I'm pretty excited to eventually get to Alan Wake. I've heard good things, but had no intention of purchasing it and the price was the same without those games bundled.

I bought the collector's edition of Alan Wake for cheap a while back. A game that comes with an actual book, inside of a case that's made to look and feel like a book? fuck yeah, that. And Forza 3 is the racing game, I believe. I haven't played that one, but I enjoyed Forza 1 and 2, and I normally loathe realistic racers.

Hey friend, I think we got a couple spots open so I'd say you're good to join...full leagues are always the best. Ubernes is the big boss around here so he's gotta give the final word. Watch out though...the NFC is tough. YOu might have better luck in the AFC (nicknamed the "cupcake conference" by people in this league), with the Jags, but if you want the Seahawks then we welcome you!

Almost pulled it out in the end vs. Masterawesome

I really have nothing to say, but that after the nfl regular season ended I believe drew brees' ratings were dramatically lowered based on all the picks he threw this year

Not one of my receivers got an inch of separation all game.. it would only make sense that if devery henderson (98 speed) would drag across the field, he would be able to get ahead of a linebacker a couple inches especially when your in man coverage the whole game.

Lol ya Drew Brees kinda sucked + no separation from your receivers (I messaged you on Live saying that right after our game). The CPU did all the work for me...insane. But Drew Brees' rating isn't indicative of how he performed during the regular season cause our franchise is based on everyones' ratings before the season even started. It doesn't get updated at all...but that was weird how inaccurate he was on some of the throws.

A few notes:

-Everyone please give a round of applause for Jonathan Beason......after a LONG journey, he has finally surpassed Eric Berry for a league-leading 13 interceptions!!! I've been playing catch-up all season after Berry got like 8 picks in the first 2 games, but luckily he slowed down a lot since then. Cru hasn't played his game yet this week...so that might change, but for now I AM THE WINNER!

-My kicker Brett Swenson's perfect kicking streak ended at 25...he missed his first kick of the season cause of stupid KICK LAG! He has been nailing 50-60 yarders all season but he met his demise at the hands of a 45 yarder. Not that I have never gotten kick lag until this game...I've just been really lucky to have lasted this long.

-Rashad Cook (my #4 CB) just got his 2nd interception in 2 seasons...but they were both pick sixes.

-I struggled running with Jonathan Stewart (91 OVR) the entire game (11 carries for 38 yards), and after subbing in Devonte Henry (my freaking 51 OVR rookie RB) late in the game...he ran for 146 yards on 4 carries lol...and I only use him as my #2 RB because he has a better carry rating than my other 2 backups. I'm not trying to be sneaky and utilize one of those crazily underrated rookie RBs (not that it's really even sneaky at all...); but my #1 concern is securing the ball on run plays, so it makes the most sense to use my back with the higher carry rating.
