This idea (whether you meant it as being serious or not) is starting to become one of those "high-horse" things that casual fans of the game are tagging on to the more hardcore fans. It's really simple: the game, in part, is a love story (if you want it to be). Since you're not just stuck with
generic female NPC and you actually have options, it makes sense that with a sequel coming out you'll want more options. It's less about virtual/digital humping and more about having someone be your male/female Shepard's love interest throughout the story (well..for some people).
Well said. Mass Effect is the first and will remain the only video game where I can't help but give a damn about the romantic possibilities of the main character due to the level of character depth, options and customization. Something you wont find in an average RPG where you're dragged kicking and screaming through one nauseatingly cliche love story begging to skip through the next disaster of a cut scene because you honestly couldn't care less. Why? Well... probably because it wasn't actually
entertaining or
thought provoking. It wasn't interesting nor engaging... and certainly wasn't a fun part of the game play by any means. As far as you were concerned it was just there. And why should you bother to care when you had absolutely no control over it?
You couldn't man up Squall at your whim forcing him to grow a pair and ditch ol' annoying ass chicken legged Rinoa for the rest of Final Fantasy 8. I know I couldn't lure Fei Fong Wong away from Elly into the waiting arms of Miang to spice up the story more in Xenogears. I don't recall the option for Ramza to create a hilarious cat fight between Agrias & Meladoul in FFT either so why shouldn't I care about a well designed aspect of game play I enjoy that I've yet to experience until now? No differently than running over innocent pedestrians in Grand Theft Auto or tea bagging an asshole who's Host in Gears 2 multiplayer?
It's sort of sad some of the more immature or flat out ignorant instantly assume the worst of those who bother to show concern for certain features they themselves clearly are too well grounded in reality to be interested in. You know instead of just flat out minding their own business when said enthusiasm is more or less equal to fantasizing over the next batch of weaponry and recon armor in Halo Reach compared to other forums.
Then again I guess because I'd like my Shepard to be a two timing womanizer this time around for personal amusement I must vicariously live through all of my Shepard profiles behind closed doors.
Now if you'll excuse me I'd better call my girl before this Quarian Envirosuit I spent most of last year making starts collecting dust. It isn't going to wear itself after all. That would be silly! ^_^
