Mass Effect 3 Discussion Thread
Then, did you see that firey, omni bitch slap move? What was that, besides insanely cool?
The class-specific "heavy melee" for, what I presume to be, the Engineer.
And, is it just me or are the graphics really that much of an improvement over ME2? They look really, truly impressive. Is that what ME2 looks like on the PS3?
Character models and animations seemed very similar to ME2 to me, but it looks like they're putting a lot of effort into making the environment look impressive. The lighting and textures are a step up.

From what I've read, the whole "PS3 version runs on the ME3 engine" didn't amount to much. They rearranged the light sources in some scenes, but aside from that the game is supposed to look pretty much just like the 360 version.
OP has been updated with the new Squad Leader video

Enjoy!
Damn you, X, for posting that video.

March 6 cannot get here quick enough, damnit.
I aim to please
And in response to the video posting, I give you this quote from a Kotaku article that discusses said video:
Actually, FemShep is the default. A Shep doesn't actually become a BroShep unless the egg is fertilized by a SpermShep with an Y chromosome. SCIENCE
Since you love BroShep so much. :D
Apparently first Femshep vote was only for facial structure/hairdo. New voting poll is up for hair color.
Um, that's bullshit. I voted for Shepard #5 because she was blonde. I would have voted for a different one if I had known that hair color wasn't a factor.
Um, that's bullshit. I voted for Shepard #5 because she was blonde. I would have voted for a different one if I had known that hair color wasn't a factor.
Then I think you need to vote for blonde again, don't you?
Then I think you need to vote for blonde again, don't you?
I did. She's losing hardcore this time though.

I know it's not a big deal and I'll still use my custom imported Shepards in any case. I just wonder how many other people would have voted for a different face/hairstyle if we'd known that that's all we were voting for, not the "whole package." All BioWare is doing is ensuring that nobody gets what they wanted.

I'm sure there will be some outcry among some of the voters finding out that it wasn't blond they voted for, just for face/facial features.

I'm sure it will only matter for those going the "play only ME3" route, since it'll pull in the ME2 import, as you said.

No, I feel pretty comfortable blaming BioWare. They are the ones who are throwing out the fair-and-square winner of the original vote just because the losers complained too much. I've got nothing against the redhead fans who are now getting their preference. Good for them. My preference runs to short blonde hair, so I'm now getting nothing I wanted.

No news out of GamesCom today? BioWare needs to start revealing some story elements and/or returning squad members instead of just showing more combat demos with Garrus and Liara. My ME3 hype level is in critical danger of being surpassed by Borderlands 2.

I'm really interested in what kind of DLC they'll make for ME3. Possibly you play as a former companion and see things from an alternate view.

I don't think they need to. The wave of information that people are demanding is too much, too early. The moment a story element or a new squadmate was revealed, people would stop whining about "TOO MUCH COMBAT!" and start whining about "OH MY GOD SPOILERS!" Besides, no new reveals were promised for GamesCom. For whatever reason, people (read: BioWare Social Network) start to believe promises that were never made or expect too much from the word "new" and wind up disappointed and angry. Just look at the BSN, especially the threads for E3, Comic Con, and now GamesCom. The boards there are bad enough now, producing enough tears to fill an Olympic swimming pool. Any type of potential spoiler would make it even worse.

This isn't a shot at you or anything, by the way. I think the way they've been showing the game off thusfar has been fine. I have no problems with the Sur'Kesh demo being shown again. It's never the exact same, anyway. We've had a new playable class each con, as well as a little more gameplay each time. I don't want a ton of stuff being shown, because the less stuff that is revealed, the better. It will make the final game much more satisfying.

Oh, I don't feel like they owe me anything, I'm just impatient and extremely non-spoilerphobic. No such thing as "too much too early." ;)

i usaully dont get excited about games to much but im dieing to get my hands on mass effect 3 its been the best game series ive played in years

Calm the Shaq down, people, the game is still SEVEN months away. I don't need to have the story details revealed more than half a year before release.

That being said, I have an RPG urge that only Fallout New Vegas and soon-to-be Skyrim can satiate until ME3

Same here. And the redhead one is winning and that's the only one that I really don't want. Figures.

The official FemShep is revealed:

So glad that horrible blonde lost.

Yeah, she was so horrible that it took a rigged vote to beat her after she won a vote that was fair.

;)

Nah, this Shepard looks damn good, despite all the shenanigans. I'll live. :)

Something is seriously off with the facial proportions in that sketch.

It's the nose. She has a button nose with one nostril bigger than the other. Eh, I'm a manshep player anyway.

That's the one I was going for, awesome. A little thing I didn't know was the guy who came up with the sketch is the dude who did these lovely fan pieces.
Good stuff that he does, and I'm glad he's getting the recognition that he's due.
Yeah, the guy's work is great. He was actually officially hired by BioWare after winning the art contest at Comic Con this year. The new FemShep picture is his first official piece of work for the company.

I know it pained you to post the link to that interview, X, though thank you for that. Good to know FemShep has the right voice actress behind her.

I like it. Koto makes really good pvc statues. I've got the Scarlet Witch and Ms. Marvel variant statues. A ton of detail goes into them. I'm sure I'll probably pick the Liara figure up even though I would've preferred Tali.

Haha, I actually own several Koto statues. I have the bishou versions of Scarlet Witch and Black Widow. The style works a bit better for those characters, but I'm definitely not feeling it for the ME franchise, let alone Liara.
Wow, that's not right and all right all at the same time. :whistle2:s
so true...I know I shouldn't like it but I totally do.

Mass Effect: Conviction, a new eight page comic showing how new squadmate James Vega will come into contact with Commander Shepard.
Shepard is in chains... how exactly does he turn himself in? Will it differ for paragons and renegades?

Im not crazy about this Vega character, but I am very interested in this comic. Maybe he can win me over. I do worry about ME3's opening moments being spoiled by too much info just like with ME2.

The new book is coming out in January, too.

I'll never use him and I hope there's an option to kill him or not recruit him. Until I hear an interview with the person who came up with him or the artist that drew him I still think it was designed by a 12-year old kid of one of the Bioware devs.

Beneath that hard exterior he's probably really vulnerable inside. And that's something Bioware has never done man. Like after Dragon Age II, no Bioware characters with that type of personality.

Major announcement coming soon. From EA's Vegas Game Show presentation:

2:37 Andy Katkin:
Aaryn Flynn, General Manager, BioWare Edmonton is now on stage to talk about Mass Effect 3.

2:38 Andy Katkin:
Unfortunately the ME3 presentation is also under embargo so we won’t be able to share the news being announced here at the Vegas Game Show. Sorry folks!

2:38 Andy Katkin:
I’ll give you a hint … its big news that a lot of you have been eagerly awaiting. Check back in a few days for more on this exciting announcement.

2:53 Comment From TheDCD
Do you know when that Mass Effect info will be announced officially?

2:53 Andy Katkin:
I don't believe the embargo date has been made public, but I think I can go out on a limb and say soon... within the week!

...aaaaaaaand here comes the multiplayer rumor train again.
