Mass Effect 3 Discussion Thread

Point 2-- Why would you even want to assign skill points for someone unless you were going to use them for a mission? At which point they would be in the group anyway.
Point 2-- Why would you even want to assign skill points for someone unless you were going to use them for a mission? At which point they would be in the group anyway.
Why not? I don't have to wait to assign points for Shepard why should it be this way for anyone else? It's silly all of the things you had to go through in Mass Effect 2 to assign points to your characters or to find out if they had any points at all. It just seems like a problem that is easily rectified.

Do you know if the game designers have fixed this issue? I have purposely avoided many screenshots so as not to spoil anything.

No idea if it's changed unfortunately. It's not even really clear yet if the game uses the same structure of distinct, compartmentalized missions as ME2 or if it's more fluid like ME1. They have said that the "Illusive Man's report" summary screen is gone, which I think is kind of a shame.

One thing I'd like to see is the ability to respec squadmates included from the get-go. It's nice that they added it to ME2 through DLC but it should have included in the first place.
I think the only place to pre-order it now would be Best Buy or Amazon, and either one of those might be a crapshoot at this point.
Just noticed this on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Mass-Effect-3-Collectors-Xbox-360/dp/B0050SYZS0/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_cart_1

Due to high demand (and possibly the imminent Reaper invasion), we have unfortunately run out of our pre-order allocation for Mass Effect 3 - Collector's Edition for Xbox 360. We are looking to secure additional allocation from the publisher and will update this page if that occurs. Please note -- if you have already pre-ordered this edition -- do not cancel as you may not be able to re-order.

Sooooo glad I ordered earlier this week.

At this point, it looks like your options are Walmart.com and BestBuy.com, though I wouldn't assume they're guaranteed to get them in.

I'm also surprised Amazon lasted this long. I went with GS for my pre-order but Amazon was a close second...too bad they couldnt get an exclusive or $10 credit.

Why would bioware/EA not just commit to making more of a version of the game that makes them $20 more per copy? The purpose of the CE is to get people to pre-order. Well, it's working. Now make more.

If they make too many, then the CEs sit on shelves and the price gets cut drastically. If they make just enough for demand, then they can get people to pay full retail, plus they sucker people like me in just because it's somewhat rare and I know I won't be able to get it for a lower price by waiting.

That's what I'm saying, just commit to pre-order demand before a certain cut-off date. That cut off date not being over a month in advance.

But I doubt they can just print on demand. They probably have to order allotments in high increments. If 350 more people want one, that's probably not enough, they may only produce a 1,000 at a time, or heck, maybe 10,000.

Chances are we'll see more available before release, but I find it unlikely that they'll be able to completely fill the needs of the market without overproducing.

How many of recent CEs have you seen sitting on shelves and getting knocked down to firesale prices?

Recent ones I can think of:
Killzone 3 HE
Infamous 2 HE
Dead Rising 2 CE
Bioshock 2 CE
Arkham City CE (PS3)

Some CEs are kept in low print runs so they do have some collector value and make it worth spending the extra money, such as ME1 LCE, ME2 CE.

Part of the issue is that the CE for ME3 has been available since around early fall, so there's been plenty of time to preorder it.

I'd rather have ME3 CE be a low print run and make it a real CE that holds its value than something like the bigger CE releases that take up lots of space and get firesaled in price.

Look at how many Skryim CE's are still sitting in stores and are now marked down by 1/3 of what they were before.

Don't forget Halo 3 Legendary being $40 at GS before it was converted to used and how many sales of Reach Legendary were at $60-$80 just a few months after release. Also ME 3 CE has been available to pre-order since June 2011 when ME 3 was unveiled in detail.

The Special Forces trailer was pretty cool and makes me think I am really going to enjoy multiplayer. However, has it been confirmed (or deconfirmed) that each class is tied to a race? I want to be an engineer, but I don't necessarily want to be a Quarian. I would like to also play a Krogan, but not be a soldier.

Hopefully some more details will arise soon about that.

Oh man, to think I was actually thinking of pre-ordering it this weekend, but decided to do it a few days ago just in case. x____x

Damn, with all the stores seemingly running out of stock for the collector's edition pre-order, it looks like I'll have to get one now.

When you do a pre-order at Best Buy, does it take the full amount, a set amount, or does it simply reserve the game until it gets shipped and then charges the full amount?

No more CE's in-store at Best Buy, I was just there today. However, in-store only takes $5 at time of pre-order. Not sure if they're still taking pre-orders for the CE online at Best Buy, but if they are, they charge at the time of order. At least that's my experience with two orders in the last few months.

Agh cancelled my preorder last week because I thought a friend was getting it for me but she ordered the regular edition. Hope it comes back in stock for a bit haha

I can't wait for this to come out! The new trailer for MP actually makes me want to play even more.
I started replaying ME 1 and will be replaying 2 afterwards in preparation.

Speaking about trailers although not related to the ME series but since I enjoy RPG's I saw this trailer and I'm pretty excited for this game as well.

So Best Buy charges your card, then rescinds the charge? Ad infinitum until the item gets shipped?
So Best Buy charges your card, then rescinds the charge? Ad infinitum until the item gets shipped?
It isn't recinded, it expires if not converted into a charge. It verifies you have the money in your account, so at this point, you're likely to see more than one authorization from BestBuy.com. It'll be for the same amount, so it's not like it's more money than the initial one.
Anyone know if the MP demo will spoil ME2 for you if you haven't already played it?
Ask again on 02/14, when some of us in here will have played it.

Shifted ME2 to the front of my backlog and finished it this week. Now I'm really excited for the third game. I just hope they come up with some more mission variety so it doesn't feel like 90% of the game is just shoot everthing in sight in the next game.

Same here. I finished ME 1 on Hardcore and imported that save to start Insanity on ME 2.

Leave nothing to chance. Play ME2 A.S.A.P. And all the DLC.

I somehow stumbled upon a copy of the ME2 Collector's Edition at a Wal-Mart near me for $40 and picked it up. Now I have to decide whether or not to sell it. My love for Mass Effect vs. my need for money. Hmmmmm...

Wow, crazy great find! I'd say keep it if your a big enough ME fan. You could sell it and get a regular copy for well under $20 and make a nice profit, or (this is what I'd do) sell the DLC collector armor and rifle for >$40 and basically pay for the game. For me, my goal is $0 out of pocket and that's what you'd score going this route. I haven't checked lately, but that collector armor and rifle were going for really high, like upwards of $80 so my estimate of $40 ish might even be conservative. Check ebay.

New, sealed copies sell for a minimum of $200 on Amazon currently. (Assuming you're talking about 360 version.)

That was my original plan, to just sell the DLC armor, but now it looks like I'm being forced to sell the whole thing (long story), which sucks because I was leaning towards keeping it. Ah well, I can use the money from it to buy the new figures once they come out. :/

You can get codes from the PC CE version those will work on the 360. IIRC, it's all tied to your EA account.

They're saying if you had a PC version of the ME 2 CE and redeemed the codes in it they work on 360 also. All the Bioware game codes for PC and 360 work on both systems once you enter either version. The PS3 ones are completely seperate.

Also looks like I need to cancel my order of the new ME novel. Apparently the writer really sucks and it has over 30 inaccuracies with the game's lore. I'm not going to burn my copy though like others on Bioware Social are doing, just will speak with my wallet.

Agreed Hitman. Once I saw that Karpyshyn was not the author, I decided to pass. I think I'll leave it to ME3 to wrap it all up for me.

Correct. You can buy the digital download version and use said codes.

Oh Crap - Please no Bioware! Please no hot quasi-journalist non-actors in my game. I can't watch the video, but this is freaking horrible if she is really in the game and they modeled her "character" to look exactly like her in real life. Stick to voice actors please!

What is next a freaking in-game Major Nelson(barf)?

My guess is that Chobot is a romanceable character so that all the fanboys can get their jollies. From the look of her outfit, she plays the Normandy's aerobics instructor.

Wow what's with all the Chobot hate? I'm loving this. Yeah it would have been cool if it was Emily Wong as the embedded reporter given the history from ME 1 but this is just as good an option. I seem to be the only person on the internet that likes this.

Yeah, I like Chobot just fine. And actually an in-game Major Nelson sounds like a pretty awesome idea to me. :) I have a pretty high tolerance for fourth-wall breaking stuff; I think by and large most games could stand to be less serious.

So is the DLC characters going to be, Olivia Munn and Sara Underwood? Wait...I'm fine with Sara Underwood's DSL...I mean DLC.

I'm fine with Chobot as a voice actor, not really crazy that Jessica Chobot looks like her character.
