Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection
MGS on PC has the "Integral" stuff and the VR Missions. No version of MGS in the US (PSX/GC) have the Integral additions (which consists of little more than, I think, a dismal first person mode).
I remember that now. Dang, wonder what they'll do with he VR missions.

For some reason I've never really tried beating the games in hard difficulty, I always go for easy or normal, I just like the story, normal can be a pain because I don't have the patience to sneak around like you're supposed to.

In for the essentials at amazon.com.. I'm excited played through each one twice to get all the collectibles and special stuff easter eggs
cant wait for this to comeout, do u guys think itll become a collectors item?
Maybe... I have 2 preordered just in case. One to keep sealed forever, one to play. For 30$ you can't go wrong.

So when you get to Psycho Mantis when playing it on the PS3 you will have to do the following.
Press PS3 Home Button > Controller Settings > Reassign Controller>

This should be interesting.

I didn't even think about that. I suppose they'll need to make sure they have the screencap of Meryl's radio frequency on the back cover as well.

I love how that game breaks the barrier between game and player.

If you break the statues in the room, you don't have to switch controller ports.

Eventually, you are given the frequency from someone over codec.

I guess Kojima wanted to make sure everyone could get past the game, even if for some reason outside your control, you couldn't do what he had envisioned.
If you break the statues in the room, you don't have to switch controller ports.
You can also fight him straight up. Hard, but doable.
If you break the statues in the room, you don't have to switch controller ports.
You have to die and continue in order to be able to do that. Some people, particularly people trying to earn the "Big Boss" rank, will be nitpicky about this. Either way, no problem.

Does anyone know what it is exactly that you have to do for this? I remember equipping the MO disc in-game 843762 times thinking it might be an alternative "CD case", and that Snake could get it from there. It worked, eventually, but do you really have to go through all that if you don't have Meryl's codec number?

Since I have subsistance the original should I just skip this and look for twin snakes? The box Art is nice but Substance kinda sucked and I was wondering if the twin snakes was better.
the original is much better than twin snakes. The tranq gun totally kills the first games design for the most part.
I dunno, I thought it was fun to go back into all the remodeled areas w/ my SoL skillset.

I really want this, but I don't have the money for this and Rainbow6 Vegas 2. I do have the originals. I wish MGS 1 was a PS2 disc, oh well.

Yeah I'm starting to have second thoughts... I already own MGS, MGS 2 regular and both versions of Snake Eater...

I wonder if Substance is really that good.

Maybe I can play it and then flip the whole set, or my old copies.

Substance made me like MGS2. When I played the original, I didn't care for Raiden or the absurd plant storyline and it soured my whole perception of the game. When I got Substance, I went straight to the VR missions, which are pure gameplay, and they made me remember that there was actually a pretty excellent game under all that weirdness.

I'm actually more exited about this than rainbow six vegas 2, even though I've beat all 3 of these games multiple times...

Just get Substance used for $8 and call it a day.

Some people are saying that Subsistence doesn't include the disc with Metal Gear and Solid Snake, though. That's the ONLY reason I'm holding out on buying this collection - I want to make sure the games are the same, not gimped in any way.

I think I'll get this and just emulate metal gear and solid snake. I mean it can't be that hard right. Plus snake vs money wasn't my favorite game mode.

The collection has been shipped.
If anyone picks this up, I'd love to see some up close pics of the packaging for the box and 3 games.
Me too. Most everything on the internet still shows the boxart from the announcement, along with "box art not final".

MSX emulation is a pain in the ass. I'd say get this set for MGS1 and MGS2 Substance and pick up MGS3 Subsistence again separately on the cheap just for the two MSX games. They're worth it.

I'll try heading over to GameStop tomorrow and see if they have it in stock. Gotta make use of that 10% off coupon. I'll post some detailed pics of the box if someone hasn't done it already by the time I get back.

I ordered this from Amazon and thus probably won't get it until next week at least. I only played MGS1, though, so this was a no brainer for me.

ZOMG!11!!1 ITZ H3R3!

hehe... pics for all :)... enjoy the show! (Comes all in DVD Cases)

P.S. - $26.99 with 10% coupon @ gamestop... use it!

Wow, slick. I'm fighting the temptation to pick this. Don't think I'll get $30 of enjoyment just out of having those cases around.

Just curious, does the MGS3S set come with MG1&2? I missed it if this was definitively confirmed or denied earlier.

I think it's been very very much confirmed to *not* have them - but I'm still holding out on a shred of hope and idiocy that it's included.

Also, regarding coupons, Target has a $5 off $25 or more coupon. Saves $2 extra over the GS coupon, if Target is going to carry this.

This is the burning question I'm waiting to hear the answer to as well. I can only hope that they're on there.

Yeah I'd like to know as well

i opened it while i was at gamestop to double check if it had the extras, mainly VR Missions, Substance and Subsistence.

-MGS says it has some VR Missions...but it's kinda vague if it's the actual VR Missions game or just the few missions the original had.

-MGS2 does have skateboarding and Snake Stories, so it is Substance.

-judging from the MGS3 manual...i see no mention of MG1 or 2. and there is no 2nd disk. it is Subsistence...but not what you'd be expecting in terms of extras.

still at work so i can't test them out. but i'll search for info. and i'll try it out in a few hours when i get home.

I was about to ask that here because I saw the box over at GameStop (preordered it at Amazon) and saw no mention of the games being the Subsistence and Substance versions. Oh well, sounds like they just decided not to put the titles on the case.

Sucks about them not including the bonus disc for MGS3S but we knew that from way back when I guess.

the original has some VR mission, but there is a third disc that is not included in this.
MGSS2 only has one disc so we got everything.

I see that they put the picture of the CODEC frequency you need for Metal Gear Solid on the back of the cardboard case; better not ever throw that away! =)

Damned those pictures though! I'd been holding out on buying it pretty well so far, but after seeing those I'm really feeling the urge to go out and pick up a copy!

Well I picked it up, for 26.99, thanks for the coupon. I have never played any of these before, so I am excited. Anything I should know while I play?

Don't get discouraged if you get spotted and killed a ton during the first couple hours. Just stick with it, they're great games.
