MLB 09: The Show CAG League - WEEK 7 STANDINGS! READ POST #1065!!!

Woo!!! I won my last 4 games out of 5 (playing randoms). I love when some guy gets a run in with a squeeze play, talks all sorts of shit, and then doesn't say a damn thing when I hit a 3 run HR the next inning.

Also, this other moron tried to message me on PSN to distract me when I had the bases loaded and 2 strikes... I hit a double.
:( no one in the nl league is ever one

yeah, this. It sucks :(
Communication guys. PM your opponents on CAG and let them know you want to play them. Unfortunately, some people are going to need more motivation than others to play their games. Relying on dumb luck to get your games played is not an ideal strategy.
Cuseman... on the last play I didn't want to advance from 2nd, so once I got to 3rd, I was going to run around until you tagged me... then the connection dropped, my 3rd drop in 4 games... once giving me the loss, twice the win.

Sucks... our game was pretty good.
We had a pitcher's duel going until that hit (thought I had it) - definitely sucks to lose that way. You had some amazing catches in the outfield, though. I just wish we'd have been able to finish the thing...

so voice chat works? just not in the league?
also i thought you had guess pitch ticked off for the league? maybe i saw it wrong . when we do the next league my vote is no guess pitch.

I like the guess pitch. It gives you an advantage if you understand how a pitcher would throw in certain situations. Like, if you were actually playing the game, batter's always have a guess in their head of what the pitcher may pitch, and upon delivery if they get that pitch, chances are they are sitting on it and can get a hit. I don't know...adds a realistic element I think.
I know i never do anything . but everyone else knocks em out the park.
Throw pitches out of the zone, mix up your pitches, change levels. Outthink your opponent. If you KNOW they are expecting a certain pitch, throw it, but not for a strike. Baseball is no different than chess. If you don't know what to expect, you're going to have a hard time.

I'm a fan of guessing pitches in this game even more than I was in 08 because of how much harder hitting is in this game. Without guess pitch on, people would just throw curve balls all freaking day because it's near impossible to read the break in this game.

It may be a little unrealistic to know for certain what pitch is coming before the ball is released, but in my opinion, it makes up for this being a video game. In real life, you have a 3 dimensional plane to judge pitches on, but that just doesn't translate well to a video game. Guess pitch not only forces you to think, but it prevents exploits as well.

And for the record, the website shows guess pitch as being set to "off", but it also shows intradivisional series as "1", which is also wrong. Chalk it up to another SCEA screw up. The details about the league on the website are not accurate.

Any of you guys wanna play tonight?
I'll be home after 12:30 AM, at work all day. Same deal for tomorrow but I'll be off on Sunday through Wednesday. If you're on around then tonight and our next game is available, I'll be there.
Yeah, although i'm trying to remember if we played our game or not yet :O
I know we played our first game, not sure if our next one is available yet though.

Anybody I need to play around now?
cusemanKeith

I'll be on the ps3 for at least 2 or 3 hours, so, if I'm on PSN, but playing something else, just send me a message and I'll switch over to mlb

Great game between Destro and I earlier. Total pitcher's duel: Halladay vs Wang (see, this is where Wang's stats not being adjusted mid-season really helps, haha). The game was scoreless into the 3rd inning, when I got a leadoff single with Kelly Johnson. Anticipating a tight game, I decided to play small ball and had Randy Winn move Johnson over with a sac bunt. BJ Upton came up next, and struck out. I believe. But Christian Guzman came through with a big 2 out single right back up the middle, and Johnson beat the throw to the plate.

That was pretty much the game as Halladay and my bullpen worked into and out of trouble for the win. In the bottom of the 9th, with K-Rod on the mound, Destro had the tying run on first with one out, and tried for a hit and run. The batter swung through the pitch, but Ryan Doumit threw the ball in the dirt to 2nd and it went into centerfield (that's like the 3rd time he's done that shit this season. Doumit sucks behind the plate). Destro held his runner at 3rd with the chance to tie the game in the next AB. Luckily, K-Rod got a ground ball to 2nd to end a very closely contested game. Good game Destro. Like I said, one timely hit was the difference in the whole game.

One thing I noticed that I wanted to mention for the league though (I'm sure a lot of you have figured this out too). I've played 6 games now, and I've STILL only got 3 left that are available. At this point, I can only assume, but I'd guess that it might have something to do with having players who haven't played many games yet (and one who hasn't played any at all...) If this turns into something that holds up the majority of the league, people will have to be kicked out. Plain and simple.

I don't expect everybody to play their games at the same pace..that wouldn't be fair. But since this isn't a true flex schedule, I can see it leading to a problem. I'm going to send out a notice now to anyone who's played less than 3 games to let them know they are at risk for being kicked out of the league. It's stupid that it has to come to this...but I wouldn't expect anything less from Sony.

I'll try to get more league games in, I just haven't had time to set games up with people, the next 2 1/2 weeks is going to be a bitch (finals and such)

That being said, if anyone wants to play tonight (for the league) at around 7:00, give me a PM.

I'm so fucking pissed right now, that was a load of shit. I don't care if I lose, since I knew I was going to anyway since you took the first run.

But when I go to throw to pickoff, or to catch and grab and it doesn't fucking respond it's bullshit. And what is with Iannetta missing the ball so many times? You can't catch a fastball in the zone? Really?

This game is a glitchy POS, I'm sorry but paying $60.00 for this is unacceptable. There wasn't even any lag!

N8, aren't we playing on a game a week expectation? Or are we expected to play more? Just set a number and that way everyone should be on the same page.

Well, to put things into perspective, we've got 22 games in the season. I told all the guys in the PM I sent out that if they play one game per week (and some are even behind that pace) that it would take 5 1/2 months just to get to the playoffs. In my opinion, 2 games a week should be the minimum. There's no real way to enforce it other than starting to just ruthlessly kick people out who don't meet the requirement.

I didn't even anticipate needing to do this because I thought we had "flex scheduling". My thought was when most of the league was basically finished with their season, and there were only a couple people holding us up, I'd kick them, and we'd move on to the playoffs. But with this "unlock games as you go" system, it's hard to know when to pull the trigger. Honestly, I don't even know what will open up the next batch of games. Here are some things I've thought of:

1. ivanctorres hasn't played a single game yet. Maybe if he ever played and everybody in the league had a game done, more games would become available. He made a post last week, asking people to email him if they could play. I sent him an email 30 minutes after he made that post and never got a response. I've seen him on Xbox Live a lot lately. I've thought about messaging him to ask if he ever intended on playing in the MLB league, but it pisses me off that that's neccessary.

2. The "current series" is still officially series 1 since I haven't resolved any of the games yet. Maybe if all the series 1 games got played, we'd move on to the next series, and more games would open up. ivanctorres is my series 1 opponent. I'll make an effort to contact him tomorrow. Everybody else should try getting the game with their series 1 opponent played also.

Outside of that, I don't want to make any moves until it's absolutely neccessary. I don't think anybody is completely out of available games yet (Supreme and m_d_amore have both played 7 games). If that happens, I'll do something about it. I just wanted to let certain people know that they need to show more effort. Otherwise, they're wasting our time.

Sorry, man that sucks. Your curve ball was insane - even when I knew it was coming I couldn't time it. It did seem like all of a sudden it all went crazy for you.

Keith

Eh, it's fine. I was going to lose anyway, it's just when shit hit the fan, I was completely demoralized.

Heh, thanks. I love throwing curve/change, it usually throws people off pretty well.

Great game N8...pretty much came down to that awesome at bat for Thames...I know the count was 3-2 on that homer, but was it the 6th pitch of the at bat? I felt like I had fouled one or two off as well...great stuff.

I'll be on tonight, after about 1030EST(Gotta write an article first). I'm looking for games with:
ratzombie
NoNova
BostonCollegeFan
Killsbury
Talon
ICT_EsqGamer
WPark

Any of you guys available?
I'll be around at like 6:30(CST) if anyone wants to play, just jump in the lobby.
Good idea, I'll be in the lobby as well.

I'm not sure. All I remember about that game was the lag. Games like that are worthless. Not taking anything away from you, but it just comes down to who's lucky enough to have the game not lag at the right moment. I'm sure you missed plenty of opportunities as well, but I know I wasn't able to play to the level I'm capable of.

It really stings to have the go ahead runs on base and swing 3 seconds early at a fastball down the middle because the game just hiccups all of a sudden. Not to mention hitting batters and throwing what amounts to pitchouts because the meter freezes. It's unfortunate that the game was such garbage.

Yeah, I was wondering why some fastballs were two feet off the plate. Sucks.

Oh, and N8, you may want to switch my rotation, wainright is listed as my #2, and lester as my #3. not a biggy but i wouldn't want anyone to think I'm skipping starters.

Are you guys still playing? If not, I can give it a try - need to play Wpark, Talon, ICT, Keltonian

I'm in the lobby - switching between cable & the show every so often

I'll try playin with you Melo...for some reason Furley and I keep dropping. I don't think it's on my end, I don't have much connected to my internet right now and I have a good speed.

Oh dude, wtf. Fur and I got disconnected in the second and it gave me a win. It was 0-0. N8, anything you can do to clear that outcome?

Ahh damn. I dunno, I have a laptop and my PS3 connected wirelessly. Maybe it is me, not sure. It didn't disconnect me from the PSN, it sent me right back to the lobby.

Dude, I'm sorry Keith...don't know what's up tonight with the internet. Is anyone else having connection issues on SC? Cause with everywhere else, I'm fine.
