I think ESPN's legal correspondent, Roger Cossack, mentioned the law requires that a minimum of 85% of the sentence be served. The last month of your sentence, you are also entitled to serving it in a halfway-house. Since Vick has already served a month, he only has to serve another 22 months assuming he serves the full term.

I'm calling it first! at least one of those players will be on the pats roster next year (just like Seau). I would like to see them try for Bill Cower. I can never get enough of that chin!
 
As much as I like Zach Thomas, he really needs to retire. His brain is about to turn into scrambled eggs, like Trent Green's. All those concussions are not good.
 
Wow, I actually won my first round playoff game thanks to Greenbay's and Buffalo's D.

Meanwhile I have to pick up Kyle Orton as a replacement for Grossman...this should be interesting.
 
What a terrible game...the Falcons are just sad.

How did these teams get on MNF? I thought the flex schedule allowed the league to put better teams on national television?

Yeah, I think that's just for the Sunday games on NBC as well.

Anybody know the nitty gritty on how that works? I don't think NBC has carte blanche to pick any game they want every week, but I'm not really sure.
 
Well, I know teams only get to be on prime time games so often. I also think NBC can only pick so many, and Fox/CBS can protect a handful of games.

I was thinking it was along those lines as well, although I didn't know there was a cap on how many times a team can be in primetime. Seems like the Pats are in primetime every week. :)

The other bit I know for sure is that NBC wasn't allowed to start flexing games until a few weeks ago in the season. Can't remember the exact week they were allowed to start but I think it was the week after the Pats - Colts game. (Which CBS would have protected anyway of course.)

Now, on to flexing's rules. The NFL makes the game-swapping decisions. But CBS and Fox can each protect five of their regularly-scheduled Sunday afternoon games, but not two on the same weekend — and none for season-ending Week 17.

Unfortunately for CBS and Fox, they had to make those picks in early October. And that, says Fox Sports president Ed Goren, make things "very, very difficult for Fox and CBS — it puts a lot of pressure on us."

NBC has more flexibility in flexing: Its game change can come just 12 days in advance and six days before Week 17.

There's more. Only three NFL teams can appear as many as six times in primetime — on NBC, ESPN or the league's own NFL Network — and no team can appear more than four times on NBC. And NBC can't pick up games already slated for primetime on ESPN or the NFL Network.

In a nutshell:

Flexing started in week 11.
The NFL decides what game moves. (But I'm sure the networks chime in.)
Only scheduled Sunday afternoon games can be moved.
FOX and CBS each get to protect 5 games for the season, only 1 per week.

Also Pats-Colts was in Week 9, before flexing started up. But obviously that would have been CBS's top game to protect.

Do you think I haven't been upset at the losses Chicago has suffered this season? Giving up 34 points in the 4th to Detroit? It's still a loss. No good complaining about it.

The amazing overtime win over Denver and 92 yard march performed by Griese against the Eagles were great wins. However, they're still just wins.

I hope so. I've been wanting the Bears to start him for several weeks so we can see what he's got.
 
If Orton dosent have a near perfect end to the season then I believe the Bears need to get on these things in the offseason.

1) Need a serviceable quarterback. I'm on the McNabb bandwagon.
2) Our offensive line needs to either play like they did last year, or get younger.
3) Our defense needs to get healthy.
4) They MUST re-sign Lance Briggs to a long-term deal

Number one probably won't happen. We'll probably be stuck with another band-aid solution that won't really work.

Number two almost for sure won't happen. John Tait is playing like an old shit. Fred Miller either holds, false starts, or gets owned. These guys were solid for us last year. Not so much this year.

Number three should happen. I think there are about two or three guys on our original starting defense that haven't had some kind of injury. Tommie Harris, unless he gets another set-back should be fine but next year. The big questions are whether or not Urlacher can get healthy and not have lingering back problems, and whether or not we re-sign Lance Briggs...which we would be huge idiots not to.

I also really think that this team is just mentally beat. Missing tackles and dropping passes has plagued this team all year. It's not like we forgot how to tackle, or forgot how to catch a ball. Last year these things didn't happen. This year, they happen over and over again. So we'll see.

So what are the chances that we are good again next year? Who knows. But it can't get much worse than this crap.
 
Did anyone catch that Freudian slip last night during the Atlanta Saints game? One of the guests in the booth was talking about Vick's sentence and he said:

"Well hopefully he stays in shape and doesn't eat too much fried chicken..."
 
I missed the MNF game last night and specifically the Arthur Blank interview portion. The local talk shows and Rome were making a big deal about it and all I could gather was a statement he made could be misconstrued as a racial dig. Anyone care to sum up what they may be alluding to?

McNabb really? I'm a fan of him too but the guy just this week played his first game in December in the past 3 seasons...

I'm hoping the 49ers go for Briggs, bring him back to the Yay.

Yea, I heard Arthur Blank say it during the live-game interview with the ESPN commentators :lol:

Edit: I believe he was talking about a Michael Vick comeback in 2010 and junk food in general and not only about fried chicken. I'm not totally sure though b/c the game was a blowout by then and I wasn't paying much attention hehe.

If I had to choose, I'd choose Nolan. Smith was a system QB at Utah, and he hasn't shown me much. I know it's a #1 pick and a huge long-term investment, but that's the way I'd go.

I'm not familiar with the 49ers needs, but damn if Matt Ryan doesn't look tasty, or even Colt Brennan with a later pick.

Nolan's only reason to stay was he had control of the locker room, now he has definitely lost it. Bryant Young said in an interview with Rod Brooks, this team has dismantled.

Matt Ryan will be gone by the 28th pick (We have the Colts pick) and Colt Brennan I vote hellllllll no. Erik Ainge, maybe. But we have a lot more needs, we need a pass rusher, a #1 reciever. I'm big on Quentin Groves (DE From Auburn) he'll bring some type of pass rush, and I'm tired of the 49ers going for other teams #2's and #3's *cough* Lelie/Jackson *cough*. I'm huge on Adarius Bowman from OSU, dude is 6-4 220, had 61 catches, 7 td's and can easily be had in the 2nd round.

I haven't looked much at the 2008 off-season but an early look at it i'd want the 49ers to:

Fire NoWin
Draft Quentin Groves with 1st pick
Draft Adarious Bowman with 2nd round pick
Try and sign Albert Haynesworth and Alan Faneca
Coaching wise, i'd like the 49ers to look at Ken Zampese (OC Bengals)
 
I'd take Brennan over Ainge eight days a week. Ainge is an average college quarterback, destined to be cut on the last day of training camp.

I don't blame Petrino in the least. What Arthur Blank should have done five minutes ago was to contact Bill Cowher. He wants to be close to his kids in North Carolina, there's only one job that's closer. The Falcons need a presence in the locker room, one to counteract Meangelo and the other morons who still think Vick did no wrong (evidenced by the Free Vick shirt last night). The Falcons have a decent defense, one that needs a coach like Cowher to motivate it. The offense needs a little work, but a good QB and a good free-agent WR would fix (a good early 2nd RB would be nice to start filling in for Dunn).

Cowher is the perfect fit for the Falcons. The other way around? I only hope so.

What a douche....he lied to his players and than leaves them out to dry. I just hate that....The team had no intentions of firing him and he bounces...eh he wont beat Georgia or LSU anyway. Looks like he will get used to be being the bottom of SEC just like he was in the NFC South.

Man you want Fanceca, Haynesworth, and Briggs?!?! No way that is going to happen. They need a QB first and foremost. There D is mediocre but they have the worst offense in the league that is where they should focus.
Anyway Haynesworth is good but he will go for way more than he is worth. It took him 4 years to show how good he is and what do you know it's in his contract year he is playing his best. Also he tends to be unstoppable in the first half and pretty much fade away by the time the third quarter comes around. Fanceca will be getting a huge contract. That's why he won't be in Pitt next year. Not that I would not want him but the Niners need to be spending there money elsewhere. Briggs would be amazing but another huge contract. I would rather spend that money on Offense and hopefully draft some good defensive talent.
But the state of the team now is very sad. Nolan has done a horrible job and needs to go. Smith has had his chance, time to move on. We need a coach that will come in there and FIX things. I think an experienced coach would be better than going after a coordinator. Hopefully a new GM is in store as well. It's sad that they are going to have to basically rebuild AGAIN!!

Yeah but I would want out of that situation as well. He came in there thinking he would have a team QB by Vick. They brought him there for Vick. The state that team is in now, sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Anyway his players supposedly were not really behind him and you saw that by a few blow ups like the one Hall had.
 
Ya hafta admit that the Steelers organization is almost perfect at spotting when it is time to let a high priced player go because their money is better spent elsewhere. Isn't that right Joey Porter?
